One Hour One Life is a 2018 survival massively multiplayer online game developed and published by Jason Rohrer. Each player lives for, at most, 60 minutes in a large, persistent world, with each minute representing a year of life. They must gather and grow food, craft tools and build societies in order to survive.

His mother also named him Blong, and had it not been for a higher power stepping in, she would've actually named him Blobby, so can't say I blame him based off that alone. There are so many great parallels to real life just like this. Like the fear of getting old, relying on others' experience/kindness to survive, having terrible parents who try to care for you as a wee child, but kinda give up as you get older (or are surpassed in ability to guide), leading to acting out, resentment on both sides, and the adult child's only concept of love being asking for help with tasks they had to learn to do on their own and keeping one of the only things (such as a hat) they were given when they still had hope. Then when they're about to say something sweet, even though they've been consistently sh*t-talked within hearing distance, to the point it *really* seemed intentional, the parent tells them they hate them so they can only say the same thing back, never to reconcile before said parent dies.

It's almost strange seeing Kevin trying to play right, patiently listening, and following another player. This 'best daughter' arc is really interesting.
As someone who plays this game I am sooooo glad he is playing this way. It is so horrible when a RUclipsr, who is a bit of a trouble maker, makes a video. The influx of newbs we get is so hard to deal with when they don’t even try to learn the game and just muck about trying to kill people or just roleplaying…it is so painful. Keeping a family going for more than a few dozen generations is actually really hard and takes a lot of coordination across families and across generations. The tech tree in this game is pretty extensive and necessary for long term survival.

Its an interesting psychological phenomenon that Ibxtoycat kinda explored in his minecraft realm experiment videos, that people basically have to be forced to work together to survive if there is a derived or implied punishment or detriment for not cooperating. People will grief and destroy are just putz around doing nothing until they are punished or their security is threatened.
It is a general trend that multiplayer survival games like minecraft or rust often have large bands of 'clans' that work together under some sort of leadership doing tasks in order to survive/thrive/triumph over odds or other people. It's fascinating, really. Here Kevin, who usually operates as a chaotic agent destroying these connections, has to learn the game from other players, like mom, because the extenuating circumstances of the game essentially force him to, or he'll perish. Kind of like real life.
Something about Alexa's mom praising Kevin even after they reincarnated was very sweet of them to do. They're such a nice player
I have seen many nice players over there. It seems that's where they all go to. (There's still toxic people, but you do get many kind players there).

This was so surreal. The idea of the game itself combined with Kevin's confusion (and mine), the setting, the babies falling out of people, the "I'm gonna die here and be reincarnated in a few minutes". You bet I'll have the weirdest fever dream about this

I love this game. I saw some article describe it as "The game that broke my heart and restored my faith in humanity". The game is EXTREMELY difficult and punishing so it makes it imperative for all players to prioritize cooperation. Everyone Ive met in the game is so genuinely nice and friendly. I just wish more people played it.

7:24 this is really the best analogy to the relationship of most kids and adults in the real world. Adults trying to teach kids in the best way they can how life works, and kids saying "but why cant I just figure it out on my own?", not knowing how horrific life can be if you make one mistake. Thats one of the reasons I like this game.
also the part where kev constantly shat on his kid for acting out and not sticking around while never self-reflecting on his own role raising it with abuse and neglect! you get so many realistic dimensions to this game
I didn't realize the other characters were players until halfway through the video, I thought the mom was an NPC tutorial guide and was astonished by the AI for a second.
Motherhood in this game can sometimes be so amazing. Two years ago I was exploring far out from my village and I had a child in the middle of it. While caring for my child, I found an abandoned baby in the middle of nowhere that had been discarded from another village and I took her in as if she was my own. Brought both of them back home and raised them (they were both new players) and on my death bed they stayed with me for my last moments. I was later born into that same village and discovered that they had buried me in front of a tree and left bundles of flowers near my grave. This might be one of the most fond memories I have of playing an online video game :')

Months ago, I woke up one night at 3am because my anxiety was really bad, and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I opened RUclips and this video came up, and watching it made me feel so much better. I watch it whenever I’m feeling stressed out, and something about the kindness between strangers - strangers who don’t owe one another anything - going out of their way to make other people happy/have a better experience with something brings me SO much comfort
The person who was playing the mom was literally soooo wholesome, kind, and patient. I love it when people are like that on an online game. Genuinely a kind person, I hope they always get green lights, always get close parking, and always wins at board games.

How lucky Kevin is for having the best mom that gave him complete tutorial in his first gameplay. Also their interactions were so sweet, i wish that mom player well irl. They seem like a good person.
The thing is a lot of the players tend to be this nice and helpful. Only a handful are griefers. This game is a paid one but even in the free version, 2 Hours 1 Life, the people are very nice. Kevin should try joining the Discord. It would be funny if his mom in-game was actually a fan.

After watching this video, I bought this game and went to play. My mom was 100% like this person lol. She taught me how to take care of the plants, said "yay!!" after every thing I did successfully and even said "It happens" at times. Could have been the same person, what are the chances. When it was just about her time, she searched for me and said goodbye. It was beautiful. This game made me legitimately happy lmao

It's almost surreal how not only the community was so friendly and helpful, but also how Kevin genuinely wanted to help and actively avoided causing problems.

I love how "Mom's" name was Sun, then when she reincarnated her new name was Sunshine
genuinely love the little story of Kevin's character in this. she started so unsure abt the world but with her mom to guide her she felt like everything was gonna be ok, but when her mom died everything became unclear again. she had to move on and only when she had her own successful life as a grave digger did she see her mom again. she died with her reincarnated mom by her side. really sweet, what an interesting game
It's even better that she made mistakes with parenting and Kevin's child didn't meet Kevin half-way, so Kevin did his best to try and contribute to those around him that helped him, becoming the kind of individual his mother would be proud of even if in a different way than expected.
this "mom" character is so cool I love them, we need people like that in multiplayer games
I lucked out and got a similar mother when i first started playing, it was great. The game is really good at making you want to care for other players
First time I played this game I was basically told fuck you by my mother. I died many times before having fun in the game and actually learning from other players.
Seeing Kevin ask his mom those questions before she died made me feel so sad. “What happens after death?” “Will you come back here? Or another land?”. Humans ask these same questions and we don’t have that good of answers outside of religious theories or nothing at all. I hate that we can’t stay in touch with those we lose, but I guess that’s life, right? That moment kinda put some things into perspective for me and thought I’d reflect in a comment.
Mom was so wholesome omg, they were so patient with Kevin and made sure that hey had at least a basic understanding of the game. We love Mom ❤

Kevin's mom is my favorite kind of player. The one who hangs around the starting area and helps new players. I'm a jealous man though, and always try to claim their knowledge for myself and I make them take me on adventures so they're too busy to help other people.
To be fair, the kid immediately knew what they seemed to be doing. Kevin was just there as emotional support, showing he is also a parenting genius

Alexa’s mom is honestly the best character in this game and such an anime moment to see her being reincarnated to see her daughter one last time
I didn’t notice this until I saw someone point it out in the comments (can’t remember the name but props to them!!), but one of the babies that Kevin called ugly was actually his reincarnated mom!!! After he says it you can see her in the background spelling out (since babies can only speak one letter at a time) the words “ALEXA MOM”, but Kevin didn’t notice so she just had to wait until she was old enough to talk properly to reunite with her best daughter 🥹😭 Even though this so-called “best daughter” had the AUDACITY to call her an “ugly baby” 🤣💀💀

I don’t know about you guys but i think this game is pretty scary as it shows our whole life in only one hour from being educated by your mother to educate your son and watching how the mother and yourself getting older and older with time and you know that you can do nothing about it.
i think now i am appreciate my time much batter than before.

Last night i spent half my hour just teaching my 3rd child how to grow basic food so they would know how to help and how to live with basics since it was their first time playing. The game is more complicated than it looks when you are the one playing so helping people learn is kinda fun once in a while.
I find Alexa interacting with her mom weirdly wholesome.

I know Kevin often plays to make himself happy and forget the usual norms, but it was so wholesome to watch him interact and mimic the mother player to try to make her happy. He respected them and how they enjoy playing the game, and that meant interacting with others and helping the community.

It really was sweet! And plus I feel like it's fine to terrorize NPCs lmfao but it's a bit different when it's real people and super nice ones at that. The game seems to focus heavily on like building up a community and farm like how people do on Minecraft or a Havest game; people who play those games I think tend to be more cooperative and less "troll"y. I think trolls would lose interest in this niche game fast. But yeah I hope everyone playing this wholesome game enjoys their experience.

@@krazyxki You'd be surprised how persistent trolls can be in this game and its free version, 2 Hours 1 Life. They typically grief more advanced colonies, the kinds with planes, shops, and individual housing. Luckily, they are few and far in between. Usually cursing them (a literal in-game function) is a good deterrant though.

Man, I remember when I first played this game, I ended up with a small tribe that was just starting out. At some point I killed a wolf and wore it as a hat and when new players started showing up I became 'wolf grandma, keeper of the bread'. I spent the rest of that run teaching the new folks how to cook, hence the name. Good times.
