I just bought a brand new full set GP Laureato 42mm Chrono Blue Dial for less money than a Rolex 36mm OP is going for on the grey market!! These watches far exceeded my expectations and they are just spectacular in every way!! Compared to my 5711 (blue dial) the GP is an overall better package, the case and dial finishing is on par with the PP under a loop, the bracelet is much better, although I suspect the movement finishing on the PP is better but I can't actually tell as the chrono has a closed case back. Only watch geeks would know the difference between this and a 5711 or the AP RO, normal people only recognize Rolex and to a lesser degree Omega. that said, these watches and I'm partial to all three chronos, are probably one of the best buys on the market if you want an available beautiful haut horology piece at an amazing price.

I love the Laureato and I will get one eventually. GP is seriously under appreciated. Why do they drop in price? Because they are readily available and sometimes at a discount. Recipe for low secondary market price. Actually about 10 years ago every watch would drop like that. Except some rare exceptions. The whole value retention is a pretty new thing.

I like GP as a brand and find it sad they suffer second-hand. A lot of their production is actually in the form movements for other brands like you mentioned - they are a base for some MB&F watches - and they actually produce less than half as many watches as AP.
I constantly yearn for one, but haven’t been able to pull the trigger. Thanks for this video, personally I wish the Laureato stuck to something closer to their original bracelets as this one feels like less effort was put in.

Check out if this statement is still accurate. It seems GP is picking up on value quite nicely lately, while some of the major brands are actually down in value in the last months (check out eg. the Rolex Daytona). Top performing Laureato seems to be the Aston Martin Limited Edition that is up over retail by over +60%. We‘re talking long-term investments here, right?!

  • @Niro_Hero
    @Niro_Hero 3 года назад +8

Some Omega Speedmaster’s and Seamasters actually do increase value.
    Some by an insane amount.
Most Rolex models also depreciated after buying if you were purchasing them 10 years ago.
We are essentially in a price bubble due to many factors decreasing supply and increasing demand.(Rolex is a mass produced watch)
Unless you’re buying an AP or Patek which are non mass produced and keeping them in mint condition which is hard, watches should not be considered as investments.

Good point. This is here and now and with Free Bridge, Aston Martin Collaborations and more and more innovations it is only a matter of time till GP is no longer viewed outside the holy trinity. I frankly don’t care about the re-sale value of my collection. I look for unique top quality craftsmanship that perhaps only I appreciate. Who cares if your buddy doesn’t recognise a GP or a Glasshütte. I know what I am wearing on my wrist and it’s the only thing that matters. For the others, there is always Panerai.

Will try on again one. What I like about the Laureato is the a bit more tough movement. As you mentioned, the AP sometimes tend to be a bit more delicate.
Love the Arab dial laureatos, thanks for showing them. Keep up the good work and cheers 👍🏻🙏🏻
In terms of the price: nowadays, watches are more considered as investment, which is a shame as the gp do offer really a lot. But due to that the not as famous models tend to decrease in value.
But also marketing has an impact and I do not see a lot about GP on insta or RUclips. If they put more attention to maybe LE‘s oder SE‘s and do a slight better marketing those pieces could be the next one shooting up.

I like GP and I bought a 1945 in 750 White Gold as NOS for 11.000 US $. Of course, i could buy me a Rolex in steel for the same price, but mine has a GMT, a date and a Chrono Function. The Rolex has only a boring design which looks always the same since 50 years and has only three hands and a date. I prefer other watch makers like GP, Omega and JLC, because they have so much more too see on a dial and the movements are amazing.

Please show me where you can get a Laureato Skeleton for 40-60% off. I will buy it right now. Haha. The Laureato will forever be called a Gérald Genta copy which is why they don't hold value (and people's obsession with being seen with a 'hot' recognised brand). However, if you can get over that, it's a beautifully hand-finished watch and worth every cent.

If you understand the history, you understand it is not a homage. Definitely influenced by watches of it’s time because they had to compete, but the design was based off of the dome at Florence Cathedral. GP also took a step back when they went quartz during the quartz crisis and had some amazing contributions to quartz movements, like the 32,000Hz which became the industry standard. Even VC has used their movements. They are on the same scale as JLC in my book.

Vet it for the best price possible if course but then just enjoy it. Don't worry about resell price. As quickly as prices shot up, they might come down.

Great content as usual. I love the design of these GPs but I’m probably not brave enough to venture out and try it partly because I really want a Royal Oak and partly because of the value retention problem. If the money matters in terms of resale later down the line, you are really investing your money in the wrong thing and place. Stupid how people think this way. Watch collection is a hobby and for your own enjoyment not an monetary investment with a monetary return down the line. Anything that has wear and tear will loose value. The real reason why the massive drop in value is because the retail price is just overpriced. Just enjoy the watch for what it is. Don't buy watch because of it holding value and resale value.

The challenge with GP is, it’s “good, but not great”. No one thing stands out about a GP (compared to PP, AP, VC which are special in multiple ways…and Rolex given utility, stature and notoriety). GP is just good, but the depreciation from retail is a big concern, especially compared to the others referenced here. I am blessed to own all five brands referenced here and I like my GP but I am least impressed with my GP compared to the other four. Note: If you love GP, then buy it from reputable gray market dealer and let someone else take the retail hit…then enjoy it for what it is!
