Adrian, actually this model you reviewed is officially, the 41mm version. It was a one year model GP released in 2016 to celebrate the 225th anniversary of GP, limited to 225 pcs. It was available with blue and white dials. GP also used a different movement (GP3300 vs current GP 1800). Then in 2017, GP released the regular production models: 38mm & 42mm versions. Another main difference beside the movement is the GP logo on the dial. The anniversary models have a smaller logo while the current models have a bigger logo. Then the datewheel is color matched to the dial colors on the regular models.
Good catch - noting the 225th anniversary model at 41mm versus the subsequent models at 42mm. I bought the white dial 41mm when they were initially offered; I preferred the GP Laureato 41mm to the three-hand APRO and PPNaut. The hands of the 41mm are longer than the 42mm, plus the hour markers on the 41mm are narrower giving the dial a less crowded appearance. I considered buying another GP Laureato, this time a 42mm with a blue or gray dial but I am so satisfied with the appearance of the 41mm's dial that the 42mm's dial appearance would be unsatisfying.
Do you have an email you’d be able to suss my GP? It’s a vintage operation and I can’t find out what it is, the numbers on the back (578 MG 18K) bring up nothing :(
Beautiful watch, mentioned in dispatches should also be the Maurice Lacroix Aikon and the Baume and Mercier Riviera which dates back to ‘73 both costing a fraction of one from the “big three”. People should buy what that want and wear what they like, nobody out there really notices or cares anyway.
I have a 42mm blue dialled Laureato Chrono, I absolutely love it and I find it an overall better package than my 5711. Movement finishing on the PP is most likely better but as the GP Chrono has a closed case back so can’t confirm. These watches are an outstanding value!!
Happy you got around to this Brand. The Laureato 42mm’s are beautiful. I tried one on during an airport layover and was shocked by the comfort and feel, as well as good looks. Ordered a blue one and will hopefully pick it up next week once it is in. It looks like an AP RO as much as a Ferrari can look like a Lamborghini to an amateur.
lots of reasons which Adrian touched on but I'd add one more.. it just isn't as well designed as the Royal Oak or Nautilus. If you put all three in front of 1000 people who had no clue about watches, the GP would rank last on aesthetics I'm a fan of the GP and am really tempted by the black ceramic Laureato.. but truth be told.. if the black ceramic Royal Oak was the same price.. the GP wouldn't get a look in
This is a classic case of "you have to see it in person" to judge it. I've had one on my wrist and can say that this watch is stunning in its balance and execution. Yes- the black dial really is spectacular.
I really don’t think you need to compare this to any other watch, as I think the design is strong enough to stand alone. In recent months I have come to admire this brand a lot and it has a very rich history too. Okay it might not be one of the holy trinity, (but as someone said recently), they took the group photo so they just missed out. Wearing a GP should get a very respectful nod from any collector, unless of course they are watch snobs… the lowest of the low.
Laureato is a great watch. The GP and Bamford collaboration, the Laureato Ghost, is a truly exceptional piece. Could say the same about the black ceramic 42mm Laureato as well.
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato features a dial with a Clous de Paris pattern, which is a traditional decorative technique in watchmaking. This pattern is achieved through a process called guilloché, which involves engine-turning or hand-turning on a rose engine lathe. So, to answer your question, the dial on the Girard-Perregaux Laureato is indeed engine-turned, not stamped. This labor-intensive process requires great skill and attention to detail, and it's a hallmark of high-end watchmaking. The resulting pattern adds a beautiful texture and visual interest to the dial.
I think you hit it on the head with the limited edition version being the best of the bunch. For me the dial pattern and the lumed markers are the things giving off that royal oak vibe and changing that really made it different. I would like the GP to double down on that direction and maybe try the flat gloss or even fume dials to really become it's own thing. I would love to see the lume dots on the outer edge of those metal markers to keep them slim and dressy like they are in the limited edition. I mean for me that would make the watch very much its own thing.
I owned the 42mm blue and miss it dearly. Thinking of getting it back, perhaps in black. A true high end luxury sports watch that holds its own. The bracelet is incredible, like silk on the wrist.
I recently bought possibly one of the last 38mm chronos in the UK as the smaller size is being discontinued. I am so happy with my choice and I'd pick it over a Daytona in a heartbeat over and over again (as a direct price comparison). Having also tried on APs I'm happy to save the cost of and headache of getting one of those in favour of this. You captured my favourite feature well, the horizontal brushing of the case almost looks like wood grain and plays with the light in such a unique way. Great video as always, thanks Adrian!
I bought a used AP and returned it after the dealer could not fix its issues, I traded for a Green dial Girard Perregaux Laureato and love it every since.
Love, love, love the GP Laureato 38mm Copper dial edition. That Laureato with the Infinity Edition Gloss Black dial also sounds interesting. Two things come to mind when comparing the Laureato and the Royal Oak. The Laureato has a narrower bezel than the Royal Oak, and the lack of the screws on the Laureato bezel creates is less distracting from the beautiful dial face. And a positive thought is that for the price of a Royal Oak, you could buy at least two or three Laureatos!
People with a penchant for relaxed luxury and understatement will be enthusiastic about the Laureato. For everyone else, the Laureato is simply a beautiful watch and its wearer is a counterpart with extremely good taste. No envy, just recognition. Life can be so easy.
I’ve liked GP and this model in particular for a long time. I plan to get one in the future. Thoughtful review and you make some great points. If people can get past the brand recognition they will realize there is a ton of value out there. GP is not an insignificant brand either, they’ve done a lot over the years for watch design and revolution in the industry and hold multiple patents and awards.
Sorry Adrian, but you are wrong! This watch in this video is the 2016 Laureato 225th aniversary edition in 41mm. It was launched in 2016 as a tryout for a new Laureato design. It was such a huge success, that they fine tuned the design and released it as a regular watch in their lineup as the Laureato EVO3 in 38mm and 42mm a year later. You can easily distiguish the anniversary and EVO3 by the size of the indices. Btw, the aniversay edition has the old GP3300 with 46 hours of power reserve, as does the 38mm version. Only the 42mm Version has the GP1800 movement.
It's a lovely watch I have on my radar since quite a while! In the end I never pulled the trigger because at this time I already had experienced an AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver first hand which I also bought back then. GP are really quite underrated, still. They have some really great watches in their portfolio! Next watch I would like to see here to complete the list: The Piaget Polo S!
I have just realized i am not so much into watches but rather watch this channel because of Adrian . I like his english, the way he talk ,his pronunciation ,pacing ,dynamic humour and presentation. Those videos feel almoust improvised. When i watch them I don’t feel this amount of hours of work and preparation put into them. For me he is second only to mighty TGV.
I’ve always liked GP’s they’re under rated in my view. My wife has a gold GP cocktail watch from the 30’s. Probably only worth a couple of hundred quid in gold value, such a shame as it’s a really beautiful piece. Having said that there is far too much focus on value retention, if your not selling what’s it matter? Lovely photography Adrian, that dial really pops. 👍
This watch is my favorite. I own the green Iternity edition. I have a Pepsi Rolex and I can tell you once you own a GP Laureato it will change the way you feel about GP timepieces. What I love is that it's a hidden gem.
I just purchased a 1973Omega De ville. It is a 1012 movement. It is 23 jewels automatic 2880 beat movement. It is stainless Steel. I has a beautiful blue face. It is extremely accurate. It is in mint condition. I paid with freight $ 500.
Adrian, I watched this video yesterday and today I bought a near-new Laureato for 40% below retail. Such good value, it almost feels naughty getting it that cheap. Great video, great watch. Thanks from NZ.
I really like the watch and the brand- I’ve never been a fan of the APRO so can honestly say I prefer the laureato aesthetically plus prefer the brand. This came very close to being my last watch but I went Reverso instead.
The limited edition Onyx black dial is like looking into a shiny black abyss. The hands, battons and rotor are gold. With just 188 pieces that’s the one to go for.
GP makes a great job. Could try out the Laureato once and liked it. Far away from a Rip Off and you get a lot of watch for your bug. As usual great review Adrian and share your thoughts on it and the brand. Cheers mate, have a good start into the new week.
I recently swapped a brand new Rolex two tone Skydweller for a Girard Perregaux perpetual calendar moon phase equation of time in solid rose gold…..so I flipped a £14,185 piece of hype for an £85,000 one of only twenty piece of haute horology…..I ROCK! Or maybe I’m mad…..
The Laureato is one of the best in the sports-luxury segment. In-house beautifully finished movement, great design, it has it all. Just one minor note: the first sports-luxury stainless steel integrated bracelet was an Omega Constellation in 1969, followed by Seamasters in 1972 (these very similar in design to what Rolex did afterwards with the Oysterquartz). Cheers
went to pick up a gold / blue dial Vacheron Constantin 4500V .. not exactly a hype watch, but man oh man... long wait, and better have spent $500K already with the Boutique.
Since you’re comparing watches to the famous models of the holy trinity, can you do a review on the Piaget polo s with the blue rubber band. This is a limited edition and only 888 made. I think this is a killer design
Just as a side note the camera work especially on the macro shots is amazing!..... Was watching with the wife, as you do when trying to soften her up for the next purchase, wink wink, but she bailed at the end so no harm done!........ Said you talk to fast😳I talk fast so it's all good, plus I listen to you all the time so I kinda know what you gonna say at the end. So yeah..... That checkout code will come in handy if I'm gonna sneak the next watch in under the radar. ☝️😏 Watch is awesome by the way!
I love the Laureato! From the first time I was introduced to it. Just beautiful and I never consider it a rip off for the AP. There's so many watches out there from high end brands that looks similar to Rolex Submariner and nobody says anything. I think Laureato is very underrated watch and it deserves more love and attention that it actually gets!
if you can tell me approx how big the balance wheel is i can tell you the tangent speed at the outside edge. can tell you its gotta be 0 at two points in its beat since its standard, unlike a spring drive
The VC Overseas is still my favourite in this class, but I would legitimately rather a GP Laureato over an AP Royal Oak, as I feel it does everything the RO does (original 1970's integrated bracelet sports watch with in-house high horology movement) while giving very little up, especially for the price. In addition to being cheaper, it also has more water resistance (I consider 100M WR the minimum for this kind of watch), and until recently also had a longer PR and higher magnetic resistance. I do wish it had a slimmer bezel, closer to the 1975 original. In fact, if the bezel on two-tone Laureato Tourbillon was standard it'd be basically perfect. It would also look a bit less RO-ish, which isn't a bad thing.
Nice piece compared to the others in this way overhyped category. Adrian - some suggestions to borrow next from Chronext: 1. JLC Polaris memovox 2. AP Code 1159 (way cooler than their RO in my opinion and people scoff or ignore it) 3. Bvlgari Octofinissimo Skeleton
I took video of one like two years ago I been sitting on and need to edit for my own channel but it’s on my other computer so I been lazy 😂 When I had it in hand I was super impressed with the finishing and level of detail compared to everything else I tried on that same day.
The issue is watch people are aspirational. Buying this watch will always be a compromise on settling for the attainable, reasonable, available. For someone that dreams, the Royal Oak or Nautilus remains the aspirational piece that GP simply can not substitute; just as a tudor will never be a submariner albeit it shines in its own merit.
It looks more like a VC+PP fusion than an AP. The shape of the bezel is more 222 than Royal Oak and the bracelet is very Nautilus. Love the look of the GP as well as the price point. Amazing video as usual!
Actually re-introduced in 2016... I know because I wear one of the 225 white dial "225th Anniversary" 41mm Laureato's. (there's also 225 blue dial versions that are stunning) It's the mostly lovely to wear thin watches that I own, more comfortable than my thin Nomos...
Hi nice video. Do you have any idea how laureato is doing is used market? I am no flipper but sometime i do exchange some pieces when i get a little bored so would always check the price in the secondary market before buying.
1). Patek Nautilus or Aquanaut 2). AP Royal Oak 3). Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4). Girard Perregaux Laureato 5). Cartier Santos 6). Hublot Classic Fusion 7). Bell and Ross BR 05 Thats just the way I see them. A couple of my friends have the GP Laureato, One Skeleton Ceramic, and one Stainless Steel Arabic dial. I love the Nautilus and the Aquanaut the most, the Royal Oak next. My favorites is the Overseas and the Classic Fusion (Which I own), but GP is starting to become one of my favorite brands. Check out the GP Bridges next!
For me it was between this and a Bathyscape. I went with the Bathyscape because the finishing on the movement doesn't compare. Great review, big fan of GP.
I own the 38mm silver dial Laureato and love the watch. I bought it (pre-owned) at the start of Covid and it's nice to see the watch getting a bit more attention. I have a smaller wrist and the 38mm wears beautifully.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Bulgari Octo Finissimo line, in general and the Chrono GMT, in particular. It is a controversial piece, but also unlike any other watches on the market. While not cheap, it represents true value at the moment.
I'd love to see a content creator such as yourself do a proper wearing and review of the JLC Polaris Automatic. Beautiful diver by the watchmaker's watchmaker but very few if any decent reviews of this timepiece on RUclips.
Have the 44mm Laureato Absolute Crystal Rock - it‘s absolutely sick. Has nothing to do with AP anymore, GP has taken this watch to the next level ! Pure Boss-mode on this watch!
I loooved the chrono version (black and blue dial) but now I love the normal version as well ;) thanks Adrian and sorry my mistake I was deeply wrong about the fact that gerald Genta did the Laureato as well (but he could!)
The watch looks gorgeous and a top choice. The only problem is that the money brings it into range of the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Ultra thin moon, with blue dial, 39mm, 9.3mm thick, and that is one gorgeous watch. Otherwise, I'd have the GP.
I agree on all points re: the Laureato. One watch that bridges between the trinity sports watches in terms of finishing and quality and the Laureato is the Parmigiani Tonda GT. If you get the chance, check one out.
Tried the black dial on about 2 months ago in Selfridges and have to say it was gorgeous. Only thing that puts me off is that it will be worth half of what I paid for it within 2 years. I know it shouldn’t matter, but when you are spending that sort of money depreciation has to be factored in imho.
I absolutely admire my blue dial laureato, it really is something else on the wrist. Super excited for GP to become an independent brand recently through the management buyout so I am sure there is lots ahead for the brand!
I love the Laureato, an absolutely astonishing watch. I can agree 100% on what you say on how it wears on the wrist. What comes next? Why not something totally different, old school style? A JLC Reverso?
I think it's a great watch in its own right. So much snobbery in the watch world surrounding anything featuring a hexagonal bezel, which is narrow minded and just limits enjoyment and progress. With better marketing I think this could be a future hit
You can't really compare angular velocity to linear. Mind you, I guess you can use v=rω which would make it the tangential speed - so you'd need the radius of the balance wheel and the amplitude angle then we could calculate it(!)
Nice video as always Adrian. Would you consider doing a review of the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80? Or are you concentrating on the higher end of the market? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
I got my in sunny Singapore and the blue dial 42mm for 6.5k gbp. But I waited 4 months for it. It is a steal really compare to my sub, it is really really special.
In the spirit of "other" brands that are more attainable, I would love to see you do some videos on more vintage re-issues from the high quality/lesser known brands out there. Like the Rado (MKii), Certina, Squale, etc. and possibly do a video on true vintage watches of high quality but lesser known brands.
I've always viewed GP as a high horology brand (I mean they make solid gold functioning slot machine watches) and the Laureato as its own design. Any integrated steel sports watch will get called an homage to the Royal Oak just as every dive watch can be called an homage to a Submariner. The Royal Oak opened up this new category of watches, but I feel GP added their own originality and flair to this piece. I love it
I own the 47040 2nd gen overseas and I’ve worn one of these GPS. Minimal difference in feel and look. Under the hood a different story I suspect. These are magnificent watches and I hope in time the brand picks up
What should I borrow next from Chronext?
www.chronext.co.uk/rolex?
I'd love to see a Lange :)
How about something left field, JLC Atmos clock! Or a Nomos or even Chronoswiss. Something nobody else would spend any time covering.
The Piaget Polo S would fit perfectly in this series!
How about the Overseas ?
What about the Smith's PRS 25 Everest, almost as difficult to buy as the Explorer. .
GP are seriously underrated. One of my fave brands. Hence I’ve ended up with 5 & counting.
Fancy seeing you here 😂
Just the man I was thinking of when I saw the title. Good taste
I think these are sleepers and will become a future grail for a lot of collectors who are sick of overpriced hype .
knew i’d see tom here 😂
@@brianjkelly1551 ahhhh hope! They will never be timepieces that appreciate in value. Are they lovely watches…yes. Do they compete with the best…never
I own the 42mm Laureato Chrono Panda and it is hands down the most luxury and refined watch in my collection even next to my 126622 YM.
Lucky you...
You know your shit. That’s fire

Yes, came here to say the same thing.
Do you have an email you’d be able to suss my GP? It’s a vintage operation and I can’t find out what it is, the numbers on the back (578 MG 18K) bring up nothing :(
Correct. Also the gp logo in the clasp its smaller. 30m water resistant
It's a beautiful time piece on its own, no need for comparison in my humble opinion.
I agree, and this is exactly my plan.
I have a Baume et Mercier Riviera and it is great.
I've a couple of BM brochures from early 90s...the riviera was a class act also the shogun has to be one of the most individual designs ever.
...and the Zenith defy Skyline...
I have a 42mm blue dialled Laureato Chrono, I absolutely love it and I find it an overall better package than my 5711. Movement finishing on the PP is most likely better but as the GP Chrono has a closed case back so can’t confirm. These watches are an outstanding value!!
Design wise
I actually prefer Laureato over RO
I completely agree. RO is an incredible watch for sure, but I'm just not personally a fan of the design.
I really don’t understand what people have against this watch or this brand in general? They made beautiful timepieces.
They’re just haters lol, the same about whoever hates Omega and Seiko, and Casio
Every single watch brand has haters from the casios to richard milles each to there own
@@visionarystyle_ Well said.
Because you can't make any money out of them!
lots of reasons which Adrian touched on but I'd add one more.. it just isn't as well designed as the Royal Oak or Nautilus. If you put all three in front of 1000 people who had no clue about watches, the GP would rank last on aesthetics

I have liked this one for quite a while. GP does have it's own pedigree in the watch community.
Love GP! Love that it's not hyped brand so us normal folks can still get our grubby middle class hands on them.
laureato 42mm blue dial owner here. great watch, period

Finally some love for the Girard Perregaux Laureato Series! 😀
What about Maurice Lacroix Aikon? Curious what you would think of that one
I think this is a killer design
he should troll us by wearing it with a literal blue rubberband stretched over the springbars like a single pass nato
Watch is awesome by the way!
Not to mention Rolex selling people Homage watches under the name Tudor - but that’s fine right lol.
@@SteelmoonWatches hahaha that’s a good one!! 😂
if you can tell me approx how big the balance wheel is i can tell you the tangent speed at the outside edge. can tell you its gotta be 0 at two points in its beat since its standard, unlike a spring drive
Is the 38 a unisex size do you think?
I've considered this piece although not had a chance to try one on. Do you think the 42 would work on a 6.5" wrist?
Nice piece compared to the others in this way overhyped category.
Adrian - some suggestions to borrow next from Chronext:
1. JLC Polaris memovox
2. AP Code 1159 (way cooler than their RO in my opinion and people scoff or ignore it)
3. Bvlgari Octofinissimo Skeleton
I took video of one like two years ago I been sitting on and need to edit for my own channel but it’s on my other computer so I been lazy 😂
When I had it in hand I was super impressed with the finishing and level of detail compared to everything else I tried on that same day.
Adrian. I think this is the earliest I’ve ever been to comment on one of your videos! 😂❤️
1). Patek Nautilus or Aquanaut
2). AP Royal Oak
3). Vacheron Constantin Overseas
4). Girard Perregaux Laureato
5). Cartier Santos
6). Hublot Classic Fusion
7). Bell and Ross BR 05
Thats just the way I see them.
Love this Laureato! and GP is a great watch brand. My fav is the 38mm blue dial.
I had the Laureato on my 17,5cm wrist and it felt massive! It is slim but felt like I was wearing a 45mm watch
I own the 38mm silver dial Laureato and love the watch. I bought it (pre-owned) at the start of Covid and it's nice to see the watch getting a bit more attention. I have a smaller wrist and the 38mm wears beautifully.
What size is your wrist? I have a 6&3/4in. wrist and normally prefer under 40mm watches in general. Thanks
Follow up. Re 3 bridges watch, yes they are & do it with a Tourbillon which is considered a haute horological piece.
What are your thoughts about metal CasiOak?
Love the way how you match the props and background to the watch. Absolutely perfect. Great Video 👍🙏
The date window doesn't align with the dial grid pattern. It's driving me nuts! A complete lack of coordination with design and movement.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Bulgari Octo Finissimo line, in general and the Chrono GMT, in particular. It is a controversial piece, but also unlike any other watches on the market. While not cheap, it represents true value at the moment.
I think the GP is an amazing watch. Superior to the Royal Oak in that there's a showcase full of them up at my local AD.
If you have a smaller wrist, check out the 8010 ref. An absolute banger if you like vintages to.
Gp makes an amazing watch. And the laureato is perfect.
Just bought a blue dial Laureato chronograph and it is absolutely stunning! Prefer it over a Royal Oak any day of the week.
how do you making coffee?
Your whole opening point, was so seriously, accurate and well put.
I tried it on recently and it didn't do much for me. I then tried on the Alpine Eagle and it blew me away. Far superior, IMO.
