    I'm English and have no issue with Maradona or the hand of God goal. These things happen in football. And if we are being honest, there were probably 3 straight red card fouls against him by England players in that game before he even scored with his hand, or his second goal which was a masterpiece.

      Agreed I remember watching as a kid and wasn't bothered by the hand of God , was first time watching football and Maradona mesmerised me ( as did Platini in that world cup ) ...true about the fouls Diego got in that game but also Hoddle was blatantly hacked down and no foul then Maradona scores about 10 seconds later

  • @SW-fn7cl

    The English players(as did other nations players) spent the game trying to snap him and take him out the game instead of tackling him cos they couldn't get near him with fair challenges. Let's not get too fucking sanctimonious about fair play here 😂

      @RussellGeorge67 20 дней назад +4

      I feel like I should say something sanctimonious here.
      I don't think English people hate Maradona. Whatever jokes or jibes were made at him, when he died, the talk in England was all about the loss of a football genius, and any replays of the cheating twat punching the ball into the net are nearly always accompanied by the other goal he scored that game, when he took the ball 60 yards, beating 5 defenders and the goalie. Pure genius.
      Also, I'd just like to point out that although Geoff Hursts shot in 1966 bounced outside the goal, if you watch the replay a few dozen times whilst having a few drinks, you can clearly see the ball spinning over the goal line whilst hurtling downwards off the bar.
      God Bless Maradona, God Bless Kazakhstan, and God bless our queer old dean.
      Huzzah!

    • @lotuseater7247
      @lotuseater7247 20 дней назад +4

      It's nice to just make stuff up without being pulled up on it isn't it. See the first ten minutes and any fouls are part of the game at the time, in fact the Argies are equally if not worse. While a number of very fair tackles are made on him. These are then not comparable to blatantly handling the ball.

    • @andredemony
      @andredemony 23 дня назад +4

      I saw it live on TV. None of us understood in the moment it was not the head that sent that ball into the goal. He did outjump Shilton - look at the photo of the moment immortalized by Alejandro Ojeda Carbajal. It is clear though, that without the hand Maradona wouldn't have reached the ball. It is possible that the ref was tricked by the linesman assesment, it is also possible that he couldn't make himself call the goal off. In the end the better team won. Fairly? Nope.

    In no way are the two things comparable. Deliberately punching the ball into the goal is the deliberate decision of the player to cheat. Being awarded a goal that didn't quite cross the line is not the fault of the player, who couldn't see if it had gone over or not. Only in one of the two situations is the player a deliberate cheat.

    Take Diego's handball goal away and the match is drawn. Disallow the goal where the ball doesn't cross the line against Germany and I think that makes the score 3-2 to England, or maybe mathematics work differently when you have half a kilo of Colombian marching powder up your hooter.

    • @andredemony
      @andredemony 23 дня назад +2

      No mate. Both the 86' hand of God as well as the non-goal of 66' were not the last goals of their games. Disallowing Diego's first goal would surely change the rest of the game and arguably that second goal would not have come. The point being that the match was still open. In 66 we have the exact same situation. The controversial goal is England's third goal, not the fourth. In both games if the referees would have made correct decisions both games would have continued as ties. We can only imagine how they would turned out-

    • @simonwilcox4437
      @simonwilcox4437 22 дня назад

      @@andredemony Agreed. It is only supposition when it comes to predicting the actual outcome of the matches had the correct decisions been made. My point is that England won the match against Germany by two goals, not one, and so the incorrect decision was not decisive in contrast to Diego's handball goal.
