- Do you know the diet and lifestyle risk factors for breast cancer? Do you know the specifics that make them risk factors? And what about how much they each increase your risk for breast cancer? You see, in order to make use of the list of risk factors, you have to know more than just the fact that something is on the list, especially when it comes to diet and lifestyle risk factors. In this video, I’ll give you the specifics.

To avoid being sedentary all day myself, I use a standing desk with a walking pad underneath and absolutely love it. It makes me feel more energized not sitting down all the time anymore.
Wow! I adopted a plant based diet when my cholesterol went way up due to untreated menopause and I am so grateful that I did it! My ldl cholesterol dropped 89 points from the dietary change alone. I cant wait to see how I am doing with my LDL now that I am on the correct hormone therapy. It's totally amazing that it prevents breast cancer too! 😁
You will discover that I present your dietary options for reducing your risk of each disease individually. It is very interesting to see the overlap.
My mother did sports all her life, never smoked, drank alcohol only on rare occasions and died of breast cancer at 44, meanwhile her sister is overweight, don’t know what exercise is, chainsmoker and an alcoholic is 55 now and not a bother on her. Sometimes fate just laughs in your face…
Life is definitely not fair! I'm so sorry about your mother.
Can catch up with her.
that's the definition of tragic. I'm sorry for your loss 😢❤
We don't know with life
My mom got advanced breast cancer at 67 with zero risk factors..still on immunotherapy once in 3 weeks ...we cannot do much but stay postive and eat the best stuff
So sorry about your mother
I don't drink or smoke, I eat only organic healthy foods (no processed foods), no refined sugar or flour, I exercise nearly every day, and I am not overweight. I do eat some animal fat, but it's pasture raised which I think makes a huge difference. They should do a study with those who eat regular animal foods and those who eat pasture raised, organic animal products.
I don't think it makes a difference. Animals store environmental toxins in their fat. So the higher up the food chain you go, the more toxins will be there. It doesn't matter whether the animal was fed in a feed lot, or eating grass. It's that 10 times or more multiplier factor of them storing the toxins present in their environment. My grandfather raised grass fed cattle. He would spray the thistles in their fields with God knows what, the corn field up the creek the cows drank water from was treated with God knows what, etc.
Its not whether or not they are grass fed. Toxins are stored in the fat and there is a multiplier effect as you eat higher up the food chain. So if the animal is say, eating wheat treated with pesticides, you would get the same amount of pesticides in 10 pounds of wheat that you might in say, 1 pound of beef. (The 10 to 1 ratio is actually probably low. It could be as high as 25 to 1. )My grandfather raised grass fed cattle. They drank out of the creek and you have no control over the pesticide runoff in their water, farmers and ranchers routinely spray the thistles and other weeds in their fields with herbacides, etc. The fat of those cattle will be just as toxic, if not MORE so then the fat of the cattle eating in a feed lot. Yes the grass fed animals have better lives, but it's probably the best healthwise just not to eat them at all.
Your videos are the reason I started on HRT seven years ago! Thank you!!! In my humble opinion, your videography skills have grown, but I’d like to see you in a set like your friend Dominique. Her videographer uses the rule of thirds and fills the frame so there’s not so much space around her. She also uses a set with a foreground a background to create depth which makes the setting look comfortable and inviting. I really love your content and will continue to watch regardless, but I believe you would build your audience two-fold because your content in spot on! ❤
Can anyone guide me abt hrt. I am only 38 and most menopausal. My gynecologist didnt help me and said take antidepressants from psychiatric. Forced me accept it. Make me scared from hrt that it causes cancers. Can anyonr guide me wt to do
Sorry it must be post menopausal

Dr. TAYLOR, thank you for such an entertaining lesson! I will forever remember the risks and will try to reduce animal saturated fat consumption.
I love knowing that this lesson will stay with you.
Doctor, I am so grateful for the education you have provided. If I hadn't found you and had my consult, I would have still been suffering during menopause. . . . . I found HRT and found RELIEF. I got my life back!!! THANK YOU :)
I love knowing this. I am just so happy that you're making the rest of your life the best of your life.
I do believe lifestyle plays a huge part. I work with a woman who is Ashkenazi and carries the BRCA mutation that puts her at high risk for breast cancer. Her grandmother, mother and both aunts on her maternal side all developed breast cancer before the age of 40. When her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in her fifties, she made some lifestyle changes including going vegan. My colleague, then in her early thirties, also went vegan to support her mom so she wouldn't have to do it alone. My colleague is now in her late forties and has, to date, not developed breast cancer, something that she herself attributes to her lifestyle choices including walking 10,000 steps a day and a healthy vegan diet. While I know this is anecdotal and doesn't prove anything, it does, at the very least, show that even very high risk factors from genetics don't automatically mean you are doomed...
Lifestyle plays a huge part of all disease risks. The problem is people don't want to blame themselves for causing their diseases.
Epigenetics is the ability of lifestyle to affect the probability of a genetic mutation manifesting.
Might be my favorite video yet. Thanks, once again!
You are so very welcome!
Great lesson! I found myself inhaling (with you) with that prop cigarette…and I don’t smoke! Haha!
I quit all animal products in 2018…strictly plant-based and enjoying transforming my old treasured recipes into ones I can still enjoy.
Sending you Besitos!!!!! 💕💕💕
You have such good lifestyle habits!
Thank you, Dr. Taylor for this video. Very informative! I commented in video 375. You are right, I made a lot of incorrect assumptions. I rewatched your earlier videos on the breast cancer unit and understand this a lot better!
You see. If you watch all my videos in order, you will avoid sabotaging your ability to understand.
Just a note to say I am enjoying watching your videos and educating myself about the menopause. I enjoy your creative flair, the props, and your penchant for edwardian clothing and hats. Thank you ❤
Thank YOU, my dear, for appreciating my efforts. I love every minute of delivering this education.
I was a smoker for 11 yrs. Quit when I was 28 65 now. So glad I made that life style change. Had eating disorders for 15 yrs. So glad I got help and changed my way s of thinking. I am a healt nut now😃 I don’t eat red meat, but I do love my chicken and my two boiled eggs 3 days a week. A huge kale salad every day, and exercise daily and no sugar! I did answer questions of this nature in one of my Q&A videos. But generally, my channel is not about me. It's about YOU. And that's why I teach you how to manage YOUR menopause YOUR way rather than your menopause MY way.
I have share this video with at least six women and they all have differing thoughts on HRT but I love this video and I just needed to share. I hope they watch through the whole thing. I hope they get a smile put on their face when they see you with all your assistive devices. Ha ha ha ha
I love the fact that you want to save other women's lives! You are a menopause missionary.
@@MenopauseTaylor Well, you know who really got me on the kick of menopause Education was Suzanne Somers, who has passed on as of recent. I’m sure you’re aware of that. She was a big guru for menopause health and she would go to a doctor out in Los Angeles named Prentice Hall. I also went out to see Prentice-Hall and received treatment for my symptoms. She’s very expensive. I ended up seeing one of her other doctors that was far less expensive who has since gone off on her own to do menopause care, And that’s who I’ve been dealing with since I turned 50 and I’m now 62. I so wish you could treat me personally. I know I can get a consultation with you, but I’d prefer to be getting actual treatment from you😔😢
Well, if you have a consultation with me first, you'll be able to find and work with the practitioner of your choice.@@MsVitaMaria
@@MenopauseTaylor Here’s the scoop, Barbie, I have looked at your pages that I need to fill out, and they are a bit overwhelming, almost like digging and searching for all the answers to all the very detailed questions. It seems a little daunting…. i’ve been in touch with your staff and I printed out the pages. I’m just being a lazy butt. I won’t say exactly when, but I promise I will be having a consultation with you. I should’ve done it a long time ago, but many different things get in the way. I would just like a little more perfection in the HRT therapy that I’m getting now. I guess I’m pretty comfortable for the most part, but I just want it refined and probably I could do better than what I’m doing now. That’s the reason why I’m so interested in pursuing your advice.
I'm be available to you when you're ready, my dear. In the meantime, thank you for being a menopause missionary.@@MsVitaMaria
❤ thank you!!!
You're welcome, my dear.
I was just interviewing with a new doctor and she said to me "You are on HRT and I am not, your risk of breast cancer is MUCH HIGHER than mine, but after you are off HRT for 5 years we will be equal in our risk". I said thank you and LEFT!!!
Now you see that what she said made no sense a all!
Thank you very much, Dr.Taylor! You are very creative!❤❤❤
You are so very kind. Having grown up with a brother who was THEE most creative person o Earth, I've never considered myself the least bit creative. But, apparently, some of his creativity rubbed off on me.
What about secondhand smoke? My mother was a chain smoker who smoked while pregnant with me all through my childhood. I've never smoked, but both parents died of lung cancer. Mom 15 years after quitting, Dad 28 years after quitting.
Well, you can't modify your past history of second-hand smoke. And there are no studies on it at all.
I do Soleus push-up when I'm sitting down. 😊
Thank you for the information, loved it , as all your videos . Should stress be mentioned here as a risk factor?
Stress is not a risk factor for Breast Cancer. It is a risk factor for Alzheimer's.
The key is to know the risk factors for each disease so that you know how to decrease your risks for each.
@@MenopauseTaylor thank you
You are so very welcome.@@gaudysrivas3548
I am fairly thin with very dense breast tissue. I was diagnosed with DCIS (stage 0). My clinic repeatedly states that dense breasts are harder to read on mammogram and fatty breasts are easier which is opposite of what was discussed on this video. Yet your chart lists density as a risk factor. All of this continues to confuse women. Thank you for trying to help us make sense of it all.
All the factors that contribute to dense breasts are risk factors for Breast Cancer. All together, they make dense breasts a risk factor.

Hi Barbie. Do men need to supplement with testosterone as women do for estrogen?
Men never lose all their testosterone, which is why they do not have menopause.
I love that, "nurture can trump nature." Great educational video once again Dr. Taylor. I need to tweak my lifestyle. Why do we crave alcohol postmenopause?
Kim,
I'm so glad you're enjoying this education.
Cravings for PMS, pregnancy, and menopause are all a bit strange. There's no specific reason as to why.
I just got my mammogram results yesterday and I have dense breasts. My GYN has never mentioned that as a risk for breast ca. No more wine for me! Had no idea it can affect breast density.
@@MenopauseTaylor
Alchholic beverages cause increased estrogen which at perimenapause ease symptoms why many women probably crave alcholic beverages.
Hi, Dr. Taylor! I have Stage IV endometriosis and suffered a severely botched myomectomy in 2016-my left tube was taken without my permission. I had never missed a period in my life and now have to take prescription progesterone to get my period. I was left sterile because the doctor blew out my other tube with an HSG I did not consent to. I have had every sign/symptom of menopause-but all blood tests say I am estrogen dominant. My breasts grew FOUR cup sizes from an already full C! I’m thinking of having a reduction-I can’t exercise, I feel obese, and my thyroid stopped working. Does a breast reduction reduce cancer risk? I stay so depressed-and there’s no justice in my home state for what happened.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, schedule a consultation with me. You deserve to understand everything.

In nursing school we were taught to double the amount of alcohol a patient claimed to drink because they underestimate the amount they drink!
It's the same for medical school ... for both alcohol and cigarettes.
Wow looks like I’m gonna have to give up my Chardonnay and yes I’m in Menopause and I crave my white wine😭
You get to make all your own choices for how to manage your menopause.
Especially if you use whey protein shakes/protein bars/etc. Whey is highly estrogenic, which can cause BC. Also strawberry anything is estrogenic.
Where did you read that?
She said that estrogen is not a risk factor
This is not accurate at all.
Animal fat as a risk factor for breast cancer - is there a study that you rely on that I can have a look at that can help me determine if I need to cut out my animal fat please? I am a ketovore (mainly animal protein and fat) and love this way of eating. Thanks very much.

A little late, but here. I was a wee busy yesterday meeting the medical students i get to mentir to be BETTER doctors. They picked people with chronic conditions, and that meant i made the list!
As for my rusk, uhm, not I'm in the moderate risk. I'm not going to worry too much. We all want to know exactly why breast cancer happens. If men can get it, perhaps they'll study it more.
Your choice of costume for obesity is hilarious. You always entertain us
Interesting point, why isn't hormone replacement a cause....that needs a study....maybe it's the testosterone women have since men get it too, but much it's rare
There are so many areas of study that researchers ignore. It's like anything else: They target whatever gets the most funding or the most attention.
That blow up fat suit was hilarious. 😂
I love it when you laugh & learn at the same time.
Barbie, you are the only person who you'd hear the fan of an obesity suit in the background of her teaching 😂
True! I'll do anything to make you laugh and learn.
Are large breasts with belly considered obesity?
Obesity is determined by your hight relative to your weight. It also depends on how much of your weight is fat rather than muscle. If you do a body mass Index (BMI) calculation, a BMI of 30 or greater indicates obesity.
@MenopauseTaylor I'm 5'3 118lbs & 31% body fat. Even though I excercise daily, dont drink or over eat, no crap food. Really frustrating 😢

When i asked my doctor if anything like diet caused my breast cancer he told me no your just unlucky.
There's a big difference between a "CAUSE" and a "RISK FCATOR." Certain aspects of your diet are Risk factors" for breast cancer. But your diet does not "cause" breast cancer.
The more breast cancer risk factors you have, the more likely you will get breast cancer.
Wow that background noise is rough
Sorry.
I didn’t notice it until I read your comment. ☺️
@@vickizsecrets that’s funny. I guess as a teacher, my ears are super sensitive because I’m always listening out for my students and different things. So it may just be me.
Are you a vegetarian?
I'm vegan. I've been vegan since I was 16. Now I'm 64.
@@MenopauseTaylor@vickiesorenson2383 Well then you probably became vegan for ethical reasons as do most people who become vegans as teenagers. I doubt you were concerned about overall health or breast cancer at 16.
@@sandycastle9728 Nothing ethical drove me to become vegan. I merely did an experiment and let my own body tell me that it's what it liked best. Listening to your own body is the key to success with your menopause management, too.
Animal sat fat thus is correlated, not causal.
The one drink a day helps with heart health has been debunked. Those studies include people who were former alcoholics. Alcohol is metabolized the same as fructose ie sugar and thus this is likely a marker for metabolic issues.

So much for like a keto diet made up of animal fat so basically to reduce obesity for me I just shouldn’t eat 😂. I can’t change my job all sitting but I need money. I don’t use alcohol or smokes so basically just eat nothing but carbs are bad too . I can’t win .

You have to dig deeper and see who pays for these studies and the agenda behind them. Animal fat has alot of vitamins. Eggs are a super food.Probably one of the only foods you can live off of on its own. People that don't eat animal fats need alot of supplements also. Red meat has alot of nutrients. It's a very anti-inflammatory food. Has been eaten by our ancestors for 100's of years along with berries when in season. They didn't eat broccoli and lettuce. Those are not nutrient dense foods. You also need to know what these women also ate along side of the animal fats, like highly processed breads, bagels, waffles, cereal, oat meal, french fries, etc. You need the entire picture in my opinion.Once you start picking apart these studies and how they were done, you start getting the picture.
The great thing about this education is that you can use it (or refuse it) as you please. There is nothing that is right for all women. We are not robots.

Your body will tell you it's opinion. You will not have to wonder.@@rdiemidio65
It might be anti inflammatory but it's not about that. Your cancer risk increases because the toxins the animal consumes are stored in the fat of the animal. So if you use a 10 to one ratio here- the actual ratio is much higher- As an example: if the cow eats 10 pounds of grass that was sprayed with round up, and you eat 1 pound of the cow, you would be getting all that round up from the entire 10 pounds of grass. This is why meat causes cancer.
