- It's about time I talk about this game! I don't think I've even mentioned it before on here.
Obviously I'm kidding, enjoy another DKC Video Essay!

A strictly donkey kong country trilogy youtube channel? I'm here for it. I personally like the 1st one the best, but I do appreciate all of the new things the 2 sequels introduced. But the 1st can't be topped for me and it's in my top 5 games of all time.
I wholeheartedly agree!🙌🏻
The first one is the weakest, and I didn't play the sequels until I was an adult, so it's not nostalgia talking. DKC2 is the pinnacle
The music is also a huge element of the game's journey. The game starts with bombastic, over-the-top songs like DK Island Swing, then it gets into much more unsettling territory like the cave theme. Then Aquatic Ambience to signify the beauty of the underwater levels, and more and more! Life in the Mines, Mine Cart Carnage, Voices of the Temple, Northern Hemispheres...the environments become much more dangerous!
Absolutely!!
If we get a new DKC entry from Retro on the Switch 2, I hope Nintendo will hand the reigns to the series over to the team behind Super Mario Bros Wonder. I would love to see what kind of fresh spin those devs could come up with for DK
what a glorious time before walls of text interrupted the actual game.
Exactly
Donkey Kong Country was definitely ahead of its time and its graphics are really good!
Absolutely!!
I always like how these 2d side scroller games start off easy and then progressively get harder and harder. Along with the visuals, enemies, soundtrack etc. It's easy to get immersed in the game. Not to mention the fun factor.
Preach!
0:19 Today that means having our escapist heroes looking as heroic and being as eye catching and unique as the guy working at 7/11.
Donkey Kong is Life
Personally I don't think it's "about the bananas" that much (something even Nintendo could ignore), I think it's about K Rool's negative impact in his home, with Kremlings roaming the area, nature being destroyed to take place for factories, and pollution (which is all represented even better in DKC3). K Rool will allow himself anything for his own goals and pleasure, so him taking bananas from DK (and I'm guessing DK was hiding them cuz the Kremlings would often steal food) was the last straw and felt like a personnal attack.
That's exactly it. To me, the bananas are more of a metaphor.
what i like more than that is how k rool kinda looses his sanity on screen as the series goes on. He's fairly normal in the first game, being more reserved in his attacks and having a very subtle and grimey dark vibe to all his factories and mines and whatnot. In 2 however he begins to go mad as hes now a violently trigger-happy pirate captain who built an entire crocodile island, even if aside from kremland its still fairly gritty. In 3 however, he's just lost it. Crocodile isle and all of his once giant kremling army are now gone to the waters below, and all he can rely on now are the small ammount of weak hick Kremlings in the northern hemisphere while he dons a ridiculous looking frankenstein outfit and begins tinkering away at ridiculous clunky robots, to the point where he has to scrounge up his supposed wife's tupperware to even build them. And in 64 bro has just completely lost his mind and is a full on Joker Dr claw saturday morning cartoon villain who makes toy clown factories and county fair haunted mansion rides while also wanting to just straight up fucking genocide the entire Kong race via giant laser instead of simply stealing their food or kidnapping them lol.
a dk RUclipsr?? sign me up lol
Supercomputers making the graphics and it really shows! 🎉
I think one of 64s biggest strength is also the visual storytelling
The way how you analyze these games is so fascinating!
I wonder if you will make video like this on the other games of the franchise...
This just makes the inttro cutscenes of the GBA versions of DKC 1 and 2 feel dumb (even though I still like how charming they are).
Nice perspective!
Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate it. The GBA version of DKC was actually the first version that I played! I just prefer the SNES versions.
@@TheJustintendo You're welcome!
i also really love how beautiful and colorful the DKC environments are!
The sunset levels are so good.
They're unbelievable 🙌🏻
Keep grinding these out, my guy. Your voice is genuine and mellow much like the subject matter. It enraptures and sooths all at once. For me, you're already up there with Summoning Salt.
This is one of the best comments I've ever gotten. Thank you so much, truly.
@@TheJustintendo No, thank you. 🤝
Just make another 3D Donkey Kong game Nintendo
Literally 😭
One of my favorite game series!
Same here!
Damn I remember watching those adverts on old taped episodes of the Simpsons. The visuals were so ahead of their time. Just perfect 🍌 ❤
We need a HD remake of the original triology. This deserves as much love as the first generation of Pokemon, Zelda Ocarina of Time and other legendary titles.
I would give EVERYTHING to get a remake of this trilogy
Great video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Visual style these days is just too clean and busy
Ikr !!
Are you a Rush fan by any chance?
Is that a band? I don't think so
@@TheJustintendo Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, and Limelight.
There's many other great songs of theirs, but give those a listen. There's a similarity to how DK and Rush sound, especially in the drums.
@@TheJustintendo They have a song called Show Don’t Tell.
@@TheJustintendo wb Genesis 👀their music esp their deep cuts that didn't get radio play inspired David Wise the most
@@TheJustintendoJust in case you ain't heard em, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Duke's Travels, Mama, and Domino go crazy
And yeah their singer did become the Tarzan soundtrack guy, Phil Collins
Do a video covering Donkey Kong 64
These early games were such masterpieces, and while DK Returns is a good game it's not on the same level. It's a shame that it has defined DK for the 14 years since (TF is a great game too, but for some reason not visually referenced nearly as much).
I only realised in the last couple days that the Kremlings were the perfect villain too because it's mammals v reptiles. (although I think the viking Snowmads were a big improvement on the tikis)
Well said!! While I do enjoy Returns a lot and am VERY excited to play the definitive edition in HD, I still wish TF was the current template for modern-day DK. it's a masterpiece
The Returns series is complete ass compared to the world Rare created, the enemies in Returns just looks stupid as hell.
it's funny too cause imo tropical freeze has some rly good enemy and villain designs but nintendo still keeps trying to gaslight everyone into thinking the stupidass Disney Moana tikis from Returns are the face of the franchise villain wise.
Retro studios normally cooks so hard with their baddie designs so idk why they thought having the final boss LITERALLY just be an angry face with floating hands would be cool like. ANYTHING wouldve been better than that
I agree. What do you think of DKC3?
Concordo plenamente.
FIRST!!
