I was a lucky kid. Raised by a single mom working the most stressful job imaginable (911 operator) I usually got one big Christmas gift every year and for 3 straight years it was DKC, DKC2 and DKC3. These games when I replay them still make me feel like I'm sitting on my bed with a chill in the air playing these amazing games for the first time. I love the entire series but DKC3 is special for me. The aesthetic, music and open world with secrets all blew me away. While my friends at school obsessed over Mario 64, I played and replayed my snes constantly, especially this game. Mom died of cancer in 2018 but her memories are forever entangled here. I was a lucky, lucky kid
I hate how people look down on the music in this game. Whenever they compare the music, they highlight DKC3's worst track, while counting out the amazing tracks in the game, like the ones used for the waterfall levels, where they're peaceful, but also kinda somber. Also, there's the underwater tracks, that are different from the tracks of the other games. They're more ominous and foreboding than aquatic ambiance, but it encapsulates how dangerous the ocean can be sometimes. You also gotta dig those jazzy tunes for the mill levels and jungle levels. The mill tracks feel like an evolution of the treetop town suite from the original dkc in my humble opinion. Thanks for showing respect to this wildly underrated soundtrack. I listen to the trilogy's music all of the time. The ost is peak video music in every way. 👍
I love Kiddy Kong more than most people do because he and Dixie remind me of two people I know. When my nephew was a toddler he used to spend a lot of time in our house and play with my younger sister. If you pay attention to Dixie and Kiddy in game you'll see them alway bickering, like how they push each other aside in their switching animation. Kiddy is just a kid that doesn't know his own strength and Dixie is just an older kid who groans at the thought of having to take care of him, but deep down she really loves spending time with Kiddy. Their dynamic really feels like two actual children playing around. Yeah, I would enjoy more if this game was about DK and Diddy Kong, but these two are also special in their own way
You absolutely nailed everything I adore about DKC 3. The atmosphere is so gripping, so... cold, if that makes sense. You're alone in a wild place. I love all three games, but this one's world always felt the most tangible to me, and I'm sure a part of it is the map and (very) lite RPG elements. Upgrading vehicles, finding hidden grottos or simply being able to enter and leave world maps or save the game any time with no cost or restrictions make the world feel even more real. On a more gameplay centred note, I love how distinct each level is. I know the game is often accused of being gimmicky, but of all the DKC games, this is the one in which I can name the most levels off the top of my head. You could be racing a swarm of bugs, dodging lighting, evading a sniper, navigating low gravity gas or climbing a perpetually burning rope, and the unique level ideas are even incorporated into the bonus levels in creative and fun ways. Also, Dixie is far and away my favorite Kong, so that doesn't hurt, either xD
Oh, here it is. While i always felt on edge with DKC2, DKC3 achieved the exact opposite with me. I can't describe how much this game calms me down, it helps me relax. It's so cozy and.. warm. I think, much of that feeling is due to those overworld themes and the calm music in general.. I remember one time as a kid, i stayed with my grandma, my parents and my aunts and uncles were out to party, so my grandma looked after me. You have to know, my grandma owned a huge farmyard, a huge area with basically only her house on. She had a huge backyard, a huge frontyard and it was located right next to the local graveyard. Because of that, i often felt somewhat on edge, when i visited her, i just was not good with huge open areas, they made me feel so small and i didn't like that. But that evening i played DKC3 and somehow... it calmed me down so so much. Later that evening my grandma joined me and laid in the bed next to me (She probably didn't want to be alone aswell) and she just watched me playing, while we chatted lightheartedly. She told me how cute those little monkeys were, she cheered me on, when i finished a level, cheered me up, when i lost a life. Some time after she calmly fell asleep, while i kept playing a little longer... These memories are so unique and precious to me.. i get emotional every time i play or even just think about this game. I just love it so much...
DKC3 has that kind of proto-faux-open world map to explore in addition to the regular levels which differentiates it from the first two. It made it addictive to find all the secrets.
If only they added DK back in instead of Kiddie Kong I'm sure DKC 3 would have been played more. In those levels where it inverts the controls I just hold the controller upside-down, helps a lot. 🙂
Growing up, Donkey Kong Country 3 was my least favourite of the trilogy, but still a fun time. Nowdays, it easily stands out as one of my favourites, for the stunning Canadian Rockies setting, and new expanded overworld map! If the OST was a bit better, and the bonus rooms weren't so unforgiving, it'd stand out as one of my favourite games ever!
Definitely check it out! Ignore the hate some people give it, it’s still a fantastic game. I personally think it has some of the best bosses and levels in the series, and my only real critiques are that it’s may be a bit easier than DKC2, and yes Kiddie is not the greatest characters (but he’s not as bad as people say lol) Dixie still kicks all kinds of Kong ass though 😂
It is. The only real downside is not having Diddy, but Dixie's base movement isn't _that_ far off from Diddy in the first place. DKC3 is worth a try for the expanded mechanics alone. Level design also gets better from game to game, and that's saying a lot considering the bar that DKC2 had set. And while it might not be quite as difficult as 2 on the whole, DKC3 is by no means a game that you can just glide through... metaphorically, of course. :D
I never understanded the hate of dkc3 its just perfect like dkc1 & 2 all 3 titles i played as a child thats my childhood i miss the old days, i miss Games with vibes like this
dkc3 came out essentially after the snes was dead. Its unarguably the most forgettable in the series but theres no doubt it meets the expectations the series has built for itself.
First off I appreciated your nod to Evelyn! I feel like this might be from my remarks on the DKC 1 review 😅 My goodness I have a soft spot for this title. You nailed it when you described going to the Northern Kremisphere as being something beyond a setting. I remember when I first played through it I felt like I could take the boat anywhere and explore and interact with things as if I was part of it. And the way you described the sense of calmness of the first level. I remember talking about how I loved the still water and wanting to literally taste it! It was clear they had updated their render farms or software because it really was fulfilling the SNES' potential in high colour reproduction. The worlds felt real in a very different way to DKC 1's nature. And the OST, I think Evelyn nailed it in a way I don't think David could have done given the vibes. No shade whatsoever, he is the king, and DKC2's OST is a masterpiece, but I really think this game was more fit for her style of composition. Laid back, patient, atmospheric, ambient (That bass too!). So even though the GBA version had David on it, I did not feel connected the same way to the world. It changes the vibe and feel of the adventure completely. Perhaps the visuals also did not help as the GBA felt massively underresourced to the SNES in audiovisual capabilities so it looked more cartoony than realistic. Also, I think the game fits really well after DKC2, because it does feel as if you can relax a bit after the hectic quest you had undertaken, with all the dangers and drama of Crocodile Isle. In this one, you first arrive to Funky's and it's this incredibly chill beat playing like yeah peace is restored, but I guess we do have to get going and save our buddy. Lovely review sir!
My favorite location in the series is probably the Northern Kremosphere. It seems so tangible to someone like me who is from North America. It reminds me of the Alps in Italy, some parts of upstate NY, and the endless boreal forests of Canada all at once. It is beautifully naturalistic and vibrant for a 16 bit game. Like if you wanted to, you could wander back into that Z-axis and explore for yourself. DKC3 nailed its mood the best of the OG 3 imo. That alone keeps me coming back to it.
Even though I have a lot of gripes with DKC3, I've always loved the game's atmosphere. As someone who grew up close to Canada most of the world hit close to home for me
Great essay, DKC3 has always been a worthy part of the canon imo, and I’ve always felt the hate was unjust and over the top. It’s exactly as you say, the vibe is impeccable, and the atmosphere is very welcome and refreshing after the hellfire of DKC2, and the graphics are the best yet in the series. What more can be said? It’s a great game in an amazing trilogy.
@Sonicxis4ever oh yes. Canada has kremlings, poisonous water, bees chasing humans, giant rats, shooting guns in our factories, bees with saws instead of wings, and birds that look like giant bananas. I'm surprised no one knew.😊
I hear people say they wish DK would just get some new games in general but I disagree! I want DK to be getting some games that have the same personality and character of the original trilogy! We should have 5+ Kongs in the game(I feel like 7 is perfect), 5 animal buddies, and more fun personality features! I get that with Returns they were out of the series for so long that it’s hard for a new studio to just go right where they left off. This is why it’s justified to be limited. We got DK and Diddy as playable and then Cranky as an NPC and then in the next title we saw them get more of a footing and bring in Dixie and Funky and give an opportunity for every single character to be playable in one way and cleverly replace the one NPC with an animal buddy when you play as him(Funky in NS port). Even still, this wasn’t enough! To bring back water levels and not have Enguarde as another animal buddy is ridiculous! The animal buddies are completely underutilized! For a return to roots I get the struggle but they should’ve started off with more and had more in the next title! Returns should’ve had 5 Kongs like in the first game! I feel like those same 5 of TF are perfect as they are the biggest ones known so maybe like DK, Diddy, and Dixie are playable and then Cranky and Funky are NPCs with maybe in a port of the game there is a Funky ‘Easy’ Mode where Funky is an option and a Cranky ‘Hard’ Mode where Cranky is a playable character too! As for animal buddies, they are Rareware’s so it feels understandable to only have Rambi and Squawks but Squawks should’ve been taken more seriously! Then, in the second title they should’ve drilled in on the characters! Make Cranky and Funky officially incorporated as playable and maybe they function as Playable and NPcs and then also bring in Swanky and Wrinkly as NPCs. 7 Kongs, 3 outright playable, 2 are NPCs that can become playable, and 2 are NPCs is perfect to keep at that exact same amount forever(maybe bring in 1 more NPC or bonus character in a later game), and then for animal buddies incorporate Enguarde and have the three buddies have a bigger role with more focus on being secrets you find as a reward or something! And then with so many kongs it opens up having just more animal buddies added! So for game three they add definitely Squitter and then maybe one more retro one like Rattly or Expresso and then one brand new idea! They could have so much personality to them! Imagine if they brought back Banana Birds and you now spotted them in levels and had to chase them down to unlock them or something! Bring back the tag team system! Imagine if you could choose between DK, DD, DX, CK, and FK for your team! You can pair a big kong(DK or Funky)with a small Kong and it’s an even balance and the small Kong can hop on the big Kongs back which would give the big one their abilities and maybe it’s good as big Kongs have better stats than small Kongs and maybe the small Kongs cannot take out large enemies like the OG game! Pair two small Kongs to be able to hop on each other’s shoulders and throw eachother around but you are exchanging health as they both have 2 health compared to the 3 health of big Kongs, and if you do DK and Funky as a big combo then you get a lot of health but in exchange they don’t cooperate well with no way they can team up! And you could still do a character switch so that way you aren’t forced to have the small Kongs on the big Kongs back like Returns where the small Kongs are just a powerup not even a character! This would make the series go forwards but sadly I doubt this will happen! We have been in a drought for over 10 years with a DKC and Retrostudios isn’t even the ones working on the port of Returns which means the next game will probably be a different studio and even if it wasn’t we would still probably be back to square one! It’s sad because we could get a fresh reboot trilogy with the first game in late 2025 or early 2026(5 Kongs, 2 Animal Buddies), the second game in late 2029(7 Kongs, 3 Animal Buddies), and the closer in mid 2032(7 Kongs+1 Bonus Kong Hidden, 5 Animal Buddies) but instead we will get something stupid! We are getting a 2025 release of a scam of Returns HD which is a port of a port and should not be more than $40. This will wipe out any chances of DK in 2025 and will probably justify 2026 for Nintendo too. And then in 2027 maybe even 2028 we will get a Switch 2 title which will be a 3D title for shock even though it’s not what’s best for the series and it will probably just be DK playable with Diddy as a Powerup and maybe Cranky as an NPC and probably be the extinction of Animal Buddies! It makes me sad because I believe the charm of this series is even better than Mario but Nintendo refuses to utilize the franchise!
It's a game you take your time with. It's not about the drive to beat k rool from 1 or the threat from 2. It's about wandering the world and doing levels at your own pace while hunting down nooks and crannies to find. Almost none of the levels are the same so each level is worth replaying for more than bonus hunting and the music has some real standouts. Though some see this as gimmicky and yes, kiddy is a poor substitute for donkey or diddy, it is a game completely worthy of the series it's in and honestly one of my favourites to this day.
Always loved DKC3, played it new on the SNES before the internet exploded. Later on, I was shocked by the dislike towards this game from the community, the game is extremely fun, which is what counts end of the day.
I always liked DKC3. 3 always reminded me of a Scooby Doo episode. It starts out chill and peaceful and slowly gets darker and scarier. 3 also has this weird comedic aspect to it to. From the design of Kiddy Kong, the enemy designs, and even the game over screen that throws you into a timeout in a playpen, the game never takes itself too seriously. The music does a good job of setting this feel and telling this story. Sure the game has a different vibe than 1 & 2, but I like that it has its own identity and stands out in the trilogy.
This game would have been so much better if the levels changed based on order or if there were different enemy or platform layouts on the higher difficulties. Probably the biggest bummer is that most wont experience the incredible bonus world in the GBA port.
In many cases, game sequels have been known to be everything the previous games were yet also expounded upon and improved in many ways. Even though the first DKC has the most nostalgia for me personally, I honestly feel like DKC 3 is the objectively better game. Regardless of how you feel about the characters (I've personally always liked Kiddy Kong), the third game just feels like they took everything good about the first and second games and added more cool and interesting elements to go along with it.
I played this game *A Lot* as a kid on SNES, but while I did enjoy it at the time, I never really came to fully appreciate it until I picked up the GBA version as an adult (WAY Past the GBA's life), I never beat the SNES original, and while I do appreciate it for what it is, the GBA version is my go-to version, and for good reason! They *NAILED* the colours with the GBA version, it's not washed out like the first one, instead it's vibrant, colourful and lovely! They also Absolutely Nailed the controls! It's every bit as good as the SNES games, perhaps even a little smoother, and while there has been some "screen crunch" criticism about the GBA versions, I measured it myself, and that criticism is flat-out wrong! They shrunk down the graphics to match the GBA screen, so while you could argue that there's been some loss in detail (which frankly isn't felt because the graphics are pre-rendered and look pretty close anyway) you actually get every bit as much vertical screen visibility, and Even More horizontal visibility! So there's LESS Screen-Crunch in the GBA version than in the SNES original! And then there's the elephant in the room (pun extremely intended) the music. David Wise composed a whole new soundtrack for the GBA version of DKC3 and... Look, I'm not going to argue about which soundtrack is better, but Wise's new GBA soundtrack IS *Brilliant!* It hits different, it's exciting, it gives the game a whole new vibe all its own, and it fits in really nicely with the first two games AND Tropical Freeze! Not to mention it's proof of how good the GBA sound hardware can sound in the right hands (and it ain't even the highest-quality one on the system) The SNES version is great, but to me, when I wanna play DKC3, which is honestly my low-key favourite, it's really hard NOT to go for the GBA version, I personally like that version the most.
Glad you gave Eveline Fischer some well deserved credit. I think if she wasn't constantly compared to David Wise, she'd be remebered as one of the greats of the early 90's, alongside Grant Kirkhope and Robin Beanland. The water theme in DKC3 is my third favorite track in the whole trilogy. It absolutely oozes atmosphere
Eveline didn’t just help a bit on DKC1, she composed half the soundtrack, including some of the series’ most iconic pieces like the DKC1 map theme. DKC2 was Wise on his own, and DKC3 Eveline on her own. Honestly her work on the series is JUST as moody and evocative as Wise’s, it’s a shame people often leave her out when talking about the series’ music legacy and just put all the attention on Wise when she literally composed half the music of the trilogy. Also a shame we never got more music from her after DKC3. Always wished we did. Such a wonderful composer. 🖤
I mean I hear you. But there are only 2 memorable pieces from the first game and that’s obviously fear factory and aquatic ambience one. Dkc2 is far and above the most catchy, memorable and atmospheric of all the trilogy. Eveline is talented no doubt and 3 has better work than the first. But that Wise really went in his bag for 2.
@@phillicus you’re telling me Vine Valley, Ice Cave Chant, Northern Hemisphere, Treetop Rock, K ROOL’S FKN THEME SONG, the credits theme and I can keep going are not memorable?! 😅 You can’t expect me to take you seriously when you say shit like that. DKC1 is one of the most groundbreaking soundtracks of its time. And that’s not my opinion, that’s a scientific fact.
this game brings me back. i played this so much as a young kid. the environment/world reminds me of my country which is Canada. the level designs and bosses were so unique. the big spider to the snowman you have a snowball fight with to the last boss which is a robot. The music is also good but not as great as dkc2. both characters were cool and had there uses but dixie is goated.
DKC3 is my least favorite too, but the level design is probably the best in the series. I love the Ellie levels where you have to dispose of the rats out her view, for instance. This game is so experimental with its levels, and the overworld exploration was truly amazing. And the quest for the Bear folks was really fun. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetics of this game; the design and graphics of the Kremlings somehow look worse than the previous games. The world design looks a bit uninspired too, although I do like it. Still is a fantastic and very underrated game, like you've pointed out.
It's my favorite of the three cause it was the first I played with my sister and mom when I was 4, plus where I come from (south of Chile) the enviroment is similar to the northern kremisphere (and thus northern Canada), lots of snowy mountains, forests etc. Llanquihue lake is like Lake Orangatanga, plus there is a volcano called Osorno where is seen to the other side of the lake, like the first level, even Chiloe, an island in south of Chile, has "palafitos" in a city called Castro that reminds me the first levels. I love this game so much, very good memories ❤

there's this strange feeling about dkc3. it feels like you're invading nature, humankind's biggest enemy. it's a mostly peaceful, contemplative atmosphere but with a sinister undertone, like you were not supposed to be there. the vibes are so unique. i think it's better than the first one
Nintendo needs to stop sleeping and neglecting the Donkey Kong franchise JUST because Rareware created it. Nintendo owns 90 percent of what Rareware made for Donkey Kong. Nintnedo ignores most the Kongs, completely ignores K. ROOL and the Kremlings. ....that aside i really love this video. Almost no one talks about DKC3 and its just as brilliant as the first two
I know people diss on Kiddy. But he was always my favorite between the two. A giant gorilla baby whos the younger brother of chunky is just fun to me. Ps Lanky Kong is my favorite kong and has been since before i was 6
Even though dkc2 still barely edges out this game imo , this one is still really amazing and unique , the graphics are the best in the whole trilogy, the atmosphere is the strongest its ever been in the trilogy, the bosses are great, the ost is hyper underrated, and hot take , but i think dixie and kiddy have the best dynamic between them in the whole trilogy, like in dkc1 , you could cheese the game with only diddy , same with dkc2 and using Dixie to cheese it , but here you actually NEED to use both dixie and kiddy and its actually unique and fun and its also quite genius , the answers to the issues in the game really want you to think , what move should i use here ? What combo do i do here ? And when you actually find the answer to the problem its the bets feeling in the world, i love this game top to bottom and i wouldn't have it any other way, so yeah , that's my opinion on it , great video one more and i hope you have a good day :>
@@TheJustintendo man, I just found your channel a few days ago from one of your DKC2 videos, and I LOVE what you’re doing! I hate how cliched it sounds, but I really feel like if you stick with it, you’re gonna keep growing for sure, because the quality is already there.
I believe DKC3 was the first game that I ever played. I remember asking my neighbour how Dixie can "propeller" with her hair like that and she showed me the controller. "Here, press green". Since then I had this vibe internalized of the first level, along with its music and I unfortunately barely could reproduce it while playing and beating the game on my own later at the age of 15-17 I believe.
The graphics in this game are incredible. It is by far the most grounded and down-to-Earth of all the games. It reminds me a lot of the places I visited locally on vacations. The music is also phenomenal, perfectly fitting that grounded vibe.
I have to say, the soundtrack fits. I agree it doesn't hit that same high bar, but it fits better than the GBA version. The subdued, unassuming soundtrack kind of fits the subdued, unassuming game. There's something that's incredibly low energy about this game. Not necessarily in a bad way. In trying to capture the vast open space of wilderness, this game kind of succeeds on all fronts. Whether or not that makes for the best game, I think that's kind of a different story. It definitely feels like a sharp turn from the previous games, which were mostly all kind of like, jungle, Caribbean, etc.
This was actually my favourite of the series for all these reasons. I remember getting so close to finishing it 100%, but not being able to find some of the last collectibles, and talking to the asian kid at school about how to find the rest of them. Going by verbal description only, back in the day when it came out
I actually never owned DKC 2 during the SNES era, just 1 and 3 . I loved both a lot and never though that 3 was an inferior game. However I later traded DKC 3 for DKC 2 and so I never replayed it after like the year 2000 or so, unlike DKC 1 which I replayed god knows how many times. So now this game occupies a sort of mystical place in my memories and I have a very high sense of nostalgia about it. I've wanted to replay it for a long time and I know I can easily do so on Switch or PC, but I don't want it to be anything less than pristine. I'm waiting until I eventually set up a CRT TV with a real Super Nintendo and only then will I play it again.
I really like Dkc3 cuz of the ambience and the music amplifies it. It feels like your out of place cuz its the enemy territory and your trying to get by however you can. But the nature in the area also has a weird beauty to it that makes it feel liberating or freeing. Idk just what comes to mind.
Ah, My Favorite Donkey Kong Country Game of the original SNES Trilogy! Such a Great Game. I'm glad to see I'm not the only who thinks the vibes and atmosphere of this game are just phenomenal! Northern Kremisphere is Amazing!
Kiddy Kong isn't that bad. He's kind of cute, actually. What is really wrong with the little baby? The game's hub world and levels give it a great adventure feel, along with the fun boss fights, and colorful visuals.
I feel like DKC 3 often gets more crap than it deserves. It is definitely the weakest game of the trilogy, but it’s still one of the greats. Good to see it getting some love!
3 is my least favourite. While the levels itself are great my complains are more about the graphical changes and art direction. Some enemy designs could have easily been used from the previous games. The mouse (neek from dkc) looks way better than the rat in this game. Same goes for the hedgehog. And the green fish (Bazza) seems like a very lazy design with lack of animations compared to other fish trough the franchise. In some levels the backgrounds are too messy and not distinct enough from the foregrounds for example the levels with the trees, it somehow looked way more pixelated than the other games. And the gaps in foreground in the snow levels always looked weird to me. It never looked like something you could fell down in but more like a brown rock you could stand on. Same can be said from the brother bear huts, where the bears do blend in too much with the background. The art direction felt a bit off compared to dkc1 and 2. The smooth sharp lines made place for more pixelated messy things. But some levels in dkc3 still had some of it. For example the pipeline levels and the cliff levels did look and feel a lot like the dkc levels I liked. It is still a fun game which brought some great new things. It had great level designs from a gameplay standpoint. But the visual presentation what the series was known for back then was a step back from previous games. To be fair, the team that worked on the orignal 2 games were working on games for the n64 at that time, so it would be logical to see such a big shift. I do still like the game, just not as much as the other 2.
Donkey Kong Country 3 is better than 2 because the gameplay for both characters is unique. 3 feels more like the original Donkey Kong Country since Kiddy Kong plays like Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong Country 2 got boring quickly since Diddy & Dixie are too similar
The music here is slept on. It's moody and atmospheric perfect for the enigmatic Northern Kremisphere
I agree!
and i hate how people say the ost for the gba version is better just because david made that.
As much as I like the GBA version's ost, it doesn't feel like DKC3.
Rest in Peace your mom, thank you for sharing that. Really beautiful
I love dkc3 its such a comfy game to play and for some reason it feels like a winter game to play so I always play around Christmas
Yes!
There is a cheat code to switch the bonus music to a Christmas piece! Sounds a bit like Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. 🎄
I love it too!! Great OST all around
Adventures in Babysitting, starring Dixie Kong
Real😭
Man that was really beautiful, thank you for sharing. This game is awesome, and I really liked hearing your memories with this game. Cheers.
DKC3 has that kind of proto-faux-open world map to explore in addition to the regular levels which differentiates it from the first two. It made it addictive to find all the secrets.
This is the best of the DKC trilogy, I'll die on that hill
Valid take!!
Dkc3 is underrated. Its unfairly criticised these days, but everyone loved it back when it first launched, i remember it well.
If only they added DK back in instead of Kiddie Kong I'm sure DKC 3 would have been played more.
In those levels where it inverts the controls I just hold the controller upside-down, helps a lot. 🙂
Absolutely! I feel the same way
Same
Growing up, Donkey Kong Country 3 was my least favourite of the trilogy, but still a fun time. Nowdays, it easily stands out as one of my favourites, for the stunning Canadian Rockies setting, and new expanded overworld map! If the OST was a bit better, and the bonus rooms weren't so unforgiving, it'd stand out as one of my favourite games ever!
So completely fair!! It has definitely gotten better as I've gotten older too
Watching this, I just thought, I never played DKC3. Just 1 and 2. I might give it a try. It looks pretty fun.
@@Papi_Keep_Playin you absolutely should try it!
It's on switch online
I never understanded the hate of dkc3 its just perfect like dkc1 & 2 all 3 titles i played as a child thats my childhood i miss the old days, i miss Games with vibes like this
dkc3 came out essentially after the snes was dead. Its unarguably the most forgettable in the series but theres no doubt it meets the expectations the series has built for itself.
At the time it felt like a huge dropoff as far as location, characters and music IMO compared to the first two games. The graphics were great, tho.
First off I appreciated your nod to Evelyn! I feel like this might be from my remarks on the DKC 1 review 😅
My goodness I have a soft spot for this title.
Thank you!! :)
Well said!! Being in forests and lakes rather than jungles and temples made it feel more relatable, at least to me.
I would ABSOLUTELY love if they did HD Remakes of the trilogy with true 3D and remade music, similar to the Crash Bandicoot remakes.
Even though I have a lot of gripes with DKC3, I've always loved the game's atmosphere. As someone who grew up close to Canada most of the world hit close to home for me
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Rare kept pushing the SNES to it's limits
Yes they absolutely did!
This game is a timeless classic!
Agreed!!
This is my favourite of the 3. It's the end of the SNES era, released 1996....
Truth
I agree. DKC3 is extremely underrated.
This is the most Canadian game of all time.
Pretty much!
As an American, I never knew it was Canadian 😮😮😮
@@Sonicxis4ever as a Canadian, I can confirm we have giant saws, robot bees and baby monkeys who wear blue jammies!
They really dialled in the graphics in DKC3 - It really looks like a PS1 Side-scroller.
I completely agree!!
Exactly!!
Always loved DKC3, played it new on the SNES before the internet exploded.
Later on, I was shocked by the dislike towards this game from the community, the game is extremely fun, which is what counts end of the day.
Agreed, it really is so much fun.
This world is definitely the place I’d love to go of all 3 in the DKC franchise
Agreed!
Finally some love for DKC3! I still play it from time to time and it has not lost its magic at all. Thanks for the video!
Absolutely! Thank you for the comment!
Not to mention it's proof of how good the GBA sound hardware can sound in the right hands (and it ain't even the highest-quality one on the system)
The SNES version is great, but to me, when I wanna play DKC3, which is honestly my low-key favourite, it's really hard NOT to go for the GBA version, I personally like that version the most.
Completely fair! The GBA version of DKC was the version I played first!
@ damn! I forgot about that shit 😂 you got it
I may not like 3 as much as 2 but 3 in itself is a good game that deserves to have its strengths acknowledged.
100%!
I didn't have a SNES growing up so I played these games on GBA. They came out when I was in highschool. I think each one just got better and better.
this game brings me back. i played this so much as a young kid. the environment/world reminds me of my country which is Canada. the level designs and bosses were so unique. the big spider to the snowman you have a snowball fight with to the last boss which is a robot. The music is also good but not as great as dkc2. both characters were cool and had there uses but dixie is goated.
You said it great! I love the environments and yeah Dixie is so awesome
@@TheJustintendo yeah bro. keep up the good work i love your channel.
Bout time someone gave this game its dues.
growing up in eastern ontario...
this reminded me of visiting my grandparents at the lake..
Me too!! I really like Ellie
Great analogy
Nintendo needs to stop sleeping and neglecting the Donkey Kong franchise JUST because Rareware created it. Nintendo owns 90 percent of what Rareware made for Donkey Kong.
Nintnedo ignores most the Kongs, completely ignores K. ROOL and the Kremlings.
....that aside i really love this video. Almost no one talks about DKC3 and its just as brilliant as the first two
Exactly, I completely agree. And thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed
I know people diss on Kiddy. But he was always my favorite between the two. A giant gorilla baby whos the younger brother of chunky is just fun to me.
Ps Lanky Kong is my favorite kong and has been since before i was 6
My favorite video game of all time

Completely agree!
This game has the best water level music in the entire Trilogy

Can’t wait to start a 103% run with the Xmas code :)
Heck yeah!!
I really like Dkc3 cuz of the ambience and the music amplifies it. It feels like your out of place cuz its the enemy territory and your trying to get by however you can. But the nature in the area also has a weird beauty to it that makes it feel liberating or freeing. Idk just what comes to mind.
Completely agree
After beating the first DKC I always thought there must be an elongated side of the island or the back side of Dk island i didn't see

Best of the trilogy. 👍🏼
Kiddy Kong isn't that bad. He's kind of cute, actually. What is really wrong with the little baby?
The game's hub world and levels give it a great adventure feel, along with the fun boss fights,
and colorful visuals.
I don't hate him, he's just my least favorite out of all of them
Retcon him as baby Chunky Kong and I'm cool with him
I never beat this game only beat the 1 and 2
I love DKC3, but I try to avoid using Kiddy Kong as much as possible.
Graphics to me look worse. The main character is an infant so the puzzles are like preschool. I really can’t see why people like this one.
To each their own! All art is subjective
Fyirst.
