Struggle is necessary to achieve anything of value in this world. This is as true for psychological intangibles as it is for material resources. Wrestling with the angel is necessary to secure a life worth living. In this episode, I discuss how we pay the cost of anything by letting go of what is antithetical to that something. This cannot be cheated. However, expensive though it may be, it is worth it. Ultimately, you have to fight for your life. I just had a hard breakup. It's been really difficult since my five-year relationship ended a few months ago. My former partner is still very much in my heart, and I can't seem to stop thinking about him. Nothing has worked to get him back, and at this point, it seems impossible to be with anyone else. I know it may seem strange to admit this, but I miss him terribly and think about him constantly.
I completely understand the pain of letting go of someone you love. I went through a similar experience when my 10 year relationship ended. 100% correct. And I'll tell you, this episode's message isn't even Psychology, it's just reality. I learned this in my early 20's. "Anything of Value is neither free, cheap, nor easy." People who can internalize this and live it, who embrace the Struggle, who're excited by the challenge (aka difficulty), who have faith in the outcome w/o expecting a guarantee, are the Winners. The top 10% in anything and everything, got there because 90% of everyone else can't do it and that's a fact.
The best preachers story tellers. The best story tellers are poets. The best poets are philosophers. And the best philosophers are preachers. You sir, are an excellent philosopher.
Matthew 13:12 makes sense now, "Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them." I feel like this also explains the pareto principle in action.
That’s just what people say when they don’t know how to plan or adapt to challenges. Discomfort often comes from unpredictable things caused by others-but that only stays unpredictable if you fail to learn from it. Real strength doesn’t come from pain or discomfort. It comes from facing the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable at first. At the start, you lack the skills and wisdom to deal with unexpected problems, but as you grow, you learn. You adapt. You create habits that make handling challenges second nature. Eventually, discomfort fades, replaced by routine. The real danger isn’t other people-it’s an individual who’s willing to question their own beliefs to uncover the truth. That takes courage. True strength shows up when you take that discomfort and turn it into opportunities. It’s about leadership, compassion, and even a few white lies to help others. When you adapt, the discomfort you feel is nothing compared to what others experience because they didn’t grow the way you did. That’s where strength lies: in growth, not suffering.
Action is what makes a person stronger than before. This must have a stimulating action in order to start the process. Someone can accept many truths and philosophize for all the bad things in his life but he certainly needs to start acting towards this. The stimulus for action in this situation is discomfort and doubt. You can't grow without them.
No pain, no gain. Lift weights; muscles get sore. Study hard; headache and sleepiness. Get rejected by girls; ego gets bruised. Turned down for a job; face uncertainty about the future. Then you do those things again, and again, and again. Your muscles hardly ever get sore and you're lifting many times your original weight. Talking to girls is no big deal even if they're not interested in you. You have a job you're happy with and concrete plans to advance in your career.
Jacob was blessed by the Angel with a name, Isreal. Also he very much earned that blessing. Wrestling the angel was the end of a long redemption and building arc for Jacob. Even then he had to wressle the angel through the night and suffered a broken hip that he lived with the rest of his life.
When I am confronted with an ugly truth about myself that I must turn away from, that is the point I stop growing. Comfort is the cage that keeps me small. Love this one. Great work! Great one!
This was spot on!! Definitely needed this reminder. I think so often we get into mindsets of having we can have both things because we are so afraid of letting go and it's easier to hold on to what we're familiar with. It's great to have this reminder that anything worth fighting for will require a fight, time, and effort. 👏🏽👏🏽
Intangible traits cannot be stolen like tangible goods. That’s the biggest message I got from this video. I completely agree the only way to get intangible traits is to work for them. No shortcuts.
This is one of Orion’s most original and profound contributions. The framing is stunningly elegant, the exegesis - riveting in its spiritual insight, the underlying truth - laid bare like a hidden treasure. Grateful for the Bukowski allusion too. All worth watching and rewatching many times.
The insights that you’ve presented on this channel have been truly inspiring and empowering. One perfect example I relate to is ‘approach anxiety’ - it’s really, really nerve-wracking initially, but once you overcome it, by enduring rejection and bouncing back, you’re a better person
this reminds me of the poem "The Man Watching" by Rainer Maria Rilke "When we win it's with small things, and the triumph itself makes us small. What is extraordinary and eternal does not want to be bent by us. I mean the Angel who appeared to the wrestlers of the Old Testament: when the wrestlers' sinews grew long like metal strings, he felt them under his fingers like chords of deep music. Whoever was beaten by this Angel (who often simply declined the fight) went away proud and strengthened and great from that harsh hand, that kneaded him as if to change his shape. Winning does not tempt that man. This is how he grows: by being defeated, decisively, by constantly greater beings."
This sermon hit today. As I’m on the cusp of losing 30lbs with .9oz left to go. I made this resolution last year to lose weight. And it had been so challenging and many times I would tell myself “don’t give up don’t let go of your dream.”
Orion misses the adversarial nature of the struggle. The angel appears during the night, and wants to vanquish Jacob. He is unable to win, but dislocates Jacob's hip. When dawn breaks, the angel has run out of time. Only then does he try to escape. Now the tables have turned. Jacob won't let him go, until he concedes the contest. There are elements of Jungian Shadow, Luke's vision of Vader in the cave.
One of your best videos yet. Moral psychology has a central place in the human experience, in every place and time and situation. We are blessed with so many free given miracles every moment of our lives yet we are also fighting blind sighted by our fanthoms from within and from the external others. But if we take care of our inner craziness, our neurotic and borderline craziness we will prevail. And for this to go further we need psychoanalysis intervention and the cure of our weak and twisted souls. Wish the utuber would recommend such things for people will lose precious time and epics and opportunities trying just the moral way. I salute you from México. I have lost the fanthoms just enough to say this with the authority that it gives me. If you have ears listen.
Great piece, totally agree with the Doctor. One nice thing about dating and relationships is you can earn it all on merit and do it with all your own work.

God Bless you Orion , This interpretation of Jacob and The Angel makes lots of senses to me now, despite the facts that I know this Bible story from primary school. Thank You
I’m going to listen to this every day until every single cell of my body absorbs this knowledge, because I was the toxic one in my past relationship and now I’m paying for it, but I’ll make myself a better person one day
Thank you very much for this Orion I relate with this 💯 % And it's comforting to know that when one embraces these processes of struggles rightly...the end is inevitable... Thank you again.
What an incredible perspective on life and the challenges inherent in simply existing on this planet. Dr. Taraban’s explanation in this video beautifully captures the shared essence of the Abrahamic religions. These teachings strive to convey a profound message to humanity: that a universal justice by the Creator exists, and to attain true life, one must confront and purify the imperfections that come with living. This journey involves grappling with the events and trials of everyday life until one reaches the gates of divine blessing. To truly enter, it requires complete surrender and ultimate love for the divine. Thank you, Dr. Taraban-your insights deeply resonate with my current circumstances.
Reminds me of hebrews 12:1 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us
Same. It's like he has ancient knowledge that was hidden from us. It's impossible that he figured at 40yo all this stuff out by himself. He either read a lot of books about this stuff or he's just gifted with ancient wisdom.
Awesome, awesome, content. The angel actually pulled Jacob's hip/leg out of socket and Jacob still held on. The sun was rising, and in fear of being discovered, the angel made a deal to bless him if he'd let him go. Regardless, your point is spot on brother.
Idk lol. That's the story as it's told. Or... "if you don't let me go I'm taking you back on my ship and subjecting you to the most vigorous probing any species has ever had inflicted upon them" Jacob - "I just want a blessing!" "Fine dude, you're blessed or whatever... Can you let go now? Even the goats are looking at us funny and I've still got to pick up an iron sample on Mars"

When I red that fight between Jacob and the angel I was very surprised! The popular idea of an angel is almost opposite, so at the beginning I wasn't able to digest the fight paradox. Now it makes more sense and also I like your interpretation on it. Valuable things are not on demand, and sometimes are so difficult to obtain that -some days like today- seem impossible to reach. I'll take your words as energy for the wrestling. Thanks.
Thank you, Orion. As someone who is passionate about personal development, this is the best episode that you have made... and you have created some incredible content. Thank you 🙏
Thank you Orion, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your wisdom through biblical reference. Picking your hard, struggle or suffering = the greatest meaning in life.
Great video!! Perfect length. On point message. Use of biblical and secular references. At a meta level great message. I equate this to Marsha Linehan’s metaphor of the fiery ladder. Or 12 step. The struggle of getting out of the basement of whatever issue we are dealing with is a struggle and visualization or the fall to failure is motivating to climb that fiery ladder. Or struggle with the angle for the blessing of ascending beyond out limitations. I hope more people explore 12 step programs because of this video.
as someone who spent 22 months homeless this resonates hard. this time last year I was still homeless & sad. I could remember feeling homocidal, suicidal and everything in between. But I kept pushing and it got better. if you’re going through it right now keep going bro, pray and work hard and god will come right on time. every time it’s nuts. a year later my business makes 50k a month. keep going
Yes, I like the image of fight with an angel. That’s how life is. In life, you have to fight for everything you want. Nothing worth having comes easy. Everything important requires hard work. However, I don’t think this concept works well in a romantic relationship or any other type of relationship. Very often, when one person chases another, it creates instability. It creates a kind of imbalance where the other person loses interest. Personally, I find myself in a similar situation, where I’m putting in all the effort to win someone over. At some point, I get tired and feel like I want to stop chasing this person. The fact that I’m the one doing all the chasing shows that their interest in me is minimal, if not nonexistent. I’m the one running after them, dancing for them like a clown, just to entertain them and hope they might accept me. That’s not the kind of dynamic I want in a relationship. That’s why I believe this approach doesn’t apply to love. If the other person doesn’t love you, why fight for them? If they truly loved you, they wouldn’t let you fight or humiliate yourself to earn their affection.
The angel in this case. You want to claim your victim. The more you want to claim your victim, the more power you yield to them. Set aside your desire for them and ask yourself what it would take for you to desire you. Furthermore, men are masters and women are servants. No servant can be greater than their master. Would your interest have room to thrive under your rule? Indifference is power. Love is weakness. Your love has value in perportion to the amount of indifference you could otherwise display. There is a time and a place for everything under the sun. Hope this helps.
Thanks Orion, though it will not relate to the video above but I wanna appreciate your content that they having given alight bulb to my head.its like your my mentor without actually meeting.loadz from Malawi, africa
The lesson is Jacob didn't find his purpose while he was running from God, it was when he fought to persevere in supplication toward God that he received his new name and came to realize his destiny. If you just try to fight for what you want,, you're missing the point. You need to grapple with GOD and only then will you receive His blessing

I tried that once. But when I came out, a girl on the beach shrieked, “It’s the creature from the dark lagoon! Run for your lives!”
Struggles help make you stronger and more resilient, as life will always throw challenges to test you, and every time you push through, you grow.
Not unless in the struggle you struggle with God. If you're fighting in your own flesh you will only reap according to the flesh
@@cosmictreason2242- I missed out on the flesh part of life. Damn.
This is your best video yet. Thank you.
Because he survived the struggle to achieve it. Amen brother 🙏
Jordan Peterson’s new book is on a similar topic!! We who wrestle with God.
Love this channel
Jacob was blessed by the Angel with a name, Isreal. Also he very much earned that blessing. Wrestling the angel was the end of a long redemption and building arc for Jacob. Even then he had to wressle the angel through the night and suffered a broken hip that he lived with the rest of his life.
I'm 24, today i just joined as a new professor with lot of ambition. Orion, This video is perfect timing for me❤
When I am confronted with an ugly truth about myself that I must turn away from, that is the point I stop growing.
Comfort is the cage that keeps me small.
Love this one. Great work!
Great one!
My growth has been so noticeable , I think I need a surgeon to remove it.
Thanks
Best sermon of the year. I thank God for you…
The insights that you’ve presented on this channel have been truly inspiring and empowering. One perfect example I relate to is ‘approach anxiety’ - it’s really, really nerve-wracking initially, but once you overcome it, by enduring rejection and bouncing back, you’re a better person
this reminds me of the poem "The Man Watching" by Rainer Maria Rilke
"When we win it's with small things,
and the triumph itself makes us small.
What is extraordinary and eternal
does not want to be bent by us.
I mean the Angel who appeared
to the wrestlers of the Old Testament:
when the wrestlers' sinews
grew long like metal strings,
he felt them under his fingers
like chords of deep music.
Whoever was beaten by this Angel
(who often simply declined the fight)
went away proud and strengthened
and great from that harsh hand,
that kneaded him as if to change his shape.
Winning does not tempt that man.
This is how he grows: by being defeated, decisively,
by constantly greater beings."
You gotta fight 🎸🎸for your life 🎸🎸 to have peace 😊
Yes… and this would have fit so well within his point.
Star Trek > Star Dorks
You are the man! Thank you for all you do
Great piece, totally agree with the Doctor. One nice thing about dating and relationships is you can earn it all on merit and do it with all your own work.
Nothing better to start my diet than this video. Thankyou!
"Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. If you work hard on your job, you can make a living. If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune." -- Jim Rohn
What a timing. This must a gift/sign from the universe. Thank you!
This is a good message for all those out there so upset at the govt for not ultimately solving their personal problems. It is the basis for many many polarizing topics.
Sincere thanks for the video. Thanks also for the Bukowski and the Jacob. I love being reminded of the wisdom left us by those who wrestled before us.
This reflects a lot of my experience in trying to find love and peace.
You have to let go of everything
I needed to hear this. Thanks, Orion
God Bless you Orion , This interpretation of Jacob and The Angel makes lots of senses to me now, despite the facts that I know this Bible story from primary school. Thank You
Best advice you’ve given me this far, Dr Orion. Thank you
I’m going to listen to this every day until every single cell of my body absorbs this knowledge, because I was the toxic one in my past relationship and now I’m paying for it, but I’ll make myself a better person one day
You are a golden nugget, Dr OT, thank you.
Thank you very much for this Orion
I relate with this 💯 %
And it's comforting to know that when one embraces these processes of struggles rightly...the end is inevitable...
Reminds me of hebrews 12:1 -
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us
Thank you!!! Paying for strength and muscle with flab seems to be a small price to pay!! You opened my eyes AGAIN!
Great refresher of a value we have been taught since childhood.
Initiation into blessings and enlightenment takes lifetimes.
Chrismas Eve, Eve, church at its finest… well done brother Orion! Cheers!

I'm so glad I found your channel. Your insights cut through all the bullshit.
Sun rising? Is this an angel or Dracula?
Idk lol. That's the story as it's told. Or...
"if you don't let me go I'm taking you back on my ship and subjecting you to the most vigorous probing any species has ever had inflicted upon them"
Jacob - "I just want a blessing!"
"Fine dude, you're blessed or whatever... Can you let go now? Even the goats are looking at us funny and I've still got to pick up an iron sample on Mars"
Well spoken with passion and I felt it, we have to push through no matter what towards our goals. "Your life unfolds in proportion to your courage"- Danielle LaPorte. Happy Holidays Doc!
This made me smile - with a deep feeling that everything will be okay 👍
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. There are so many incredible people creating content, and you, my friend, stand out in the crowd. I hope you are rewarded greatly for your time and sacrifices.
Alright Dad. Your best one. Brilliantly done and executed and spot on.
Thank you 🙏
By far the best video this week mr orion
Never again, I will win my own respect back and go all the way for the angels.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteusness, they shall be fulfilled."
Pints of stout, for sure!
I walked through hell in the last 3 years. I have acquired skills, tolerance, aligned friends, and more despite the pain. ❤
The is always a way out but it's not easy you must pay the price. And remember your peace of mind is everything.
Peace is Priceless
Thank you Orion, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your wisdom through biblical reference. Picking your hard, struggle or suffering = the greatest meaning in life.
This absolutely fits with my experience, if you want above average results you generally need to take above average action.
This is exactly what i needed to hear. Thank you so much. God bless.
Increíble content Orion, thank you and god bless you
Great video!!
Thank you for this, I think every man needs this presently, I hope there will be more follow up with this,
This is one of the best videos I've ever watched
as someone who spent 22 months homeless this resonates hard. this time last year I was still homeless & sad. I could remember feeling homocidal, suicidal and everything in between. But I kept pushing and it got better. if you’re going through it right now keep going bro, pray and work hard and god will come right on time. every time it’s nuts. a year later my business makes 50k a month. keep going
This is a good one, a true message that rings true throughout the universe.
Thanks for coming back to the great content like the ones u used to make
Orion the Angel of Hope
I am at peace, and I do NOT want to ever lose it.
Thank you for having real and authentic content. There is so much BS out there. I’m a psych, too, and love your stuff. ❤
Thanks Orion, though it will not relate to the video above but I wanna appreciate your content that they having given alight bulb to my head.its like your my mentor without actually meeting.loadz from Malawi, africa
After listening to this message, I feel as I’ve leveled up a little bit. Thanks doc.
I regularily tell my pupils: I'm not saying it's going to be easy. I'm saying it's going to be worth it.
*improved vision guaranteed, or your money back.
The lesson is Jacob didn't find his purpose while he was running from God, it was when he fought to persevere in supplication toward God that he received his new name and came to realize his destiny. If you just try to fight for what you want,, you're missing the point. You need to grapple with GOD and only then will you receive His blessing
