  • The name Exeter has been applied to many a starfleet vessel and real naval ship. Let's look at the lineage that this name has traveled and the burdens it carries since the 17th century.
    Also in many ways, Star Trek treated this vessel as sort of following in the Enterprise's footsteps.
    Other Legacies to look at:
    USS Hood: • The USS HOOD Legacy
    USS Farragut: • The FARRAGUT Legacy
    Music from bensound.com, purple-planet.com and freesfx.co.uk
    Star Trek Online developed by Cryptic Studios and Perfect World.
    Star Trek, Star Trek Enterprise/Voyager/Deep Space Nine/Discovery/Picard and The Next Generation are all owned and distributed by CBS.
    Star Trek Films are owned and distributed by Paramount Pictures

    Ever since Yesterday's Enterprise where we see the Enterprise-C, I have been in love with the Ambassador Class. Something about it's design I just love find far more appealing than even the Galaxy Class. Akin to liking an old classic car over the new 2019 model. Given the length of service of the Ambassador class USS Exeter, I would guess they skip over the Galaxy class. I'd be surprised if many new Galaxy class ships were built after the Dominion War. The next Exeter was probably an Akira or Sovereign. With the advances forced by the Borg threat and the Dominion War and the vastly over built Starfleet of the post Dominion War years, your going to see almost all the older ships scrapped, with only the new classes retained in active service. While the Galaxy is still a newer class, it is a pre-Borg design. The new fleet will be primarily Akiras, Sovereigns and Intrepids. Ambassadors and Excelsiors will be decommissioned en mass, and while Galaxies and Nebulas might be retained, I don't expect they'll be building new ones.

    • @jkrolak7978

      Given that Galaxy class ships had a glass jaw - almost every one of them we saw has been destroyed within just a few years of operation, I suspect that big moving target was already being phased out during the Dominion war. For all the theory (Worf - shed of her bulk the Enterprise is a capable warship (season 1) and in The Best of Both Worlds), we seldom see it pack much of a punch vs capable opponents.

    • @bradleypotts9865
      @bradleypotts9865 4 года назад

      @@jkrolak7978 The way the Galaxy was designed, I suspect it was originally designed as a colony ship and perhaps pressed into warship duty due to the needs of the Cardassian War (where it would have performed just fine) but then as that conflict abated, sent off on exploratory duty as it was now over engineered for a colony ship. It was from an era when Federation technology was so advanced beyond its likely rivals, it didn't matter, but not up to the challenges that would emerge in the first few years of its service (the resurgent Romulan Empire, the Botg, the Dominion).

      @@bradleypotts9865 Actually the Galaxy class of ships was more of a scientific platform with a side of exploration. In typical Star Fleet fashion, it was intended to punch above it's class. However it is one of the few designs that didn't manage even to hold it's own. While it had plenty, Enterprise and her class sisters, didn't do very well in a fire fight. They were also notoriously prone to other break downs, although perhaps that can be forgiven for that as it was usually due to "more advanced" tech causing the problems.
      They were comfortable ships. But in a battle even against know opponents like Klingon, Dominion, even occasionally the lowly Fergengi, it could seldom take a good punch. In many ways there were like a current cruse ship vs a modern US Carrier. Good in their specialty but that was about it.

    It seems like most federation vessels are named with human names. While humans make up a majority of federation personnel, there are still hundreds of other members. We dont really hear any vessels named after other species.

      It’s entirely possible that until the 24th century, Starfleet vessels and sovereign Federation members maintained distinct fleets that were finally folded together. This has the tangential benefit of explaining why Starfleet ships are so human-centric in the 23rd century and become less so by the 24th.

    You cant possibly be a lore series for Star Trek and not know why they would name a class resembling the Constitution class named the Kirk Class. It's clearly named in honor of American actor Kirk Cameron of Growing Pains fame. Get your lore straight!
