My husband and I fumbled the handoff with my credit card and it disappeared behind the sliding door through a slot that looked like it was made for it. Your video helped us recover it, as well as save half a day at the auto dealership having them take it apart....thank you!!!!
‘It has a real shifter like trucks are supposed to have’ THANK YOU! I spent months trying to find my F150 because I wanted the center console, but not the center console shifter. It’s not a car 🤦🏼♀️
Haha Yes! I had a 2017 F150 King Ranch before this truck and literally the only good thing I could come up with about the "car" shifter was that I could rest my hand on top of it. I can't count the number of times I went to put it in reverse and sent it all the way home to park. This is so much better
Actually, mechanically the center console shifter is better for the transmission because it’s closer to it and just overall functions better. The other one is cheaper and is more prone to becoming damaged and needing repair. After a few years it will loosen. Just my experience with these trucks and probably is why the console shift comes with a more loaded truck...
Thanks, this just saved me a bunch of time trying to figure out how the console comes apart. I'm installing a two-way radio control head in the pocket next to the driver, and it looks pretty damn sweet.
Chris Bolton great to hear it! I am actually also installing a 2-way radio in the console but I am going to get it under the sliding lid so it’s completely hidden
My credit card was on top of sliding drawer until I breaked. Then it went between top of drawer / sliding lid and in past front of drawer compartment. Wonder what fewest number of parts to get behind storage compartment to retrieve my credit card??
Do you happen to know if any of the wires under there are power & ground and which color is which? Have a 22 F150 and need to install emergency light switch box and wanted to break into the wires under there if possible
Sadly, I do not know what all is in the harness(es) under there. I ran my own power from the battery so that I wouldn’t have to try to find a wiring diagram. I think there is a 12v socket mounted on the back of the console for backseat passengers to use, perhaps you can locate that and tie into it? KEEP IN MIND though, that those circuits and harnesses are purpose-built, so anything you add cannot exceed what that circuit was designed to hold. For a 12v socket, it’s probably fused on a 10A or maybe 15A circuit, and for heavens sake don’t just put a bigger fuse on it. My recommendation is to spend a little time and run a new fused power circuit from the engine bay. Anytime you cut into a harness you run the risk of unintended consequences in my opinion
Good video. For function running a business not having shifter in center provides additional storage of frequent things whether phone, wallet, check books etc. Never seen a stick on left of columb in USA so not sure how one wide mix those up unless maybe in Europe?
But today I took a credit card I don't usually put in wallet and left on top of sliding lid. Which I did not anticipate would fly behind lid when I breaked
Thomas G, very good video; thank you. I was afraid I would break stuff if I had to experiment removal on my own. I am wanting to put a CB radio in that small compartment under the sliding lid. I just want to get the wiring into that space (power wire, antenna cable, and maybe external speaker wire). I am initially thinking I will not mount the radio, but just sit it in the space and put something around it so it won't move or rattle. Of course it needs air flow too. What did you decide for your radio install in that location?
I tried to take video along the way, but it was difficult to remember since I was working by myself and don’t usually video myself. I finally decided there was no point since I had missed so many steps. I will go out and take a video today that hopefully will give you an idea what to expect. I will tell you now - that tray isn’t as easy as it looks, and you have to take quite a bit out to make it happen. But it is totally worth it in the end, because the radio literally vanishes when you close the lid.
@@thomasg4678 I decided last night to give this a shot. Your video showing how to get the console apart was very helpful. Removing the 2 screws on the slide allows for removing the slide easily...just pull the slide frame straight back. I was then able to fish wires/cables down and left to come out on the left-bottom side of the console, and then move them toward the front or rear of the console depending on need.
stephen thatcher I didn’t remove the entire console; just the guts and the center stack above it on the dash. Regarding the amp, it really depends on how big the amp is. If you pause my video when I show what the center looks like with the cup holder tray removed, you’ll see a plastic piece that kind of runs down the right side. That is a conduit for the right air vent on the back of the console. There’s one just like it on the left, except that it’s hidden by the plastic that the tray sits on. If you don’t have a huge amp, you can probably make it work. But If the amp can go on the floor of the storage area under the armrest, I would suggest you go that route and just make a hole at the front of it that you can run all your amp wiring through. As an added bonus, I believe the A/C leaches into that compartment because I have reached in there after long trips and the stuff inside is frigid. Let me know if I can help with anything else, I’ve been taking interiors apart to hide wiring for a minute or two. Good luck!
Sorry I know it's years later but after breaking it down as far as you did in this video, is it just a matter of the 4 base bolts to remove the console all together? I'm doing sound deadening in my truck and want to lay down some CLD and lass loaded vinyl
Haha well the problem is that I don’t really do videos much, and I work by myself. So stopping to video different segments just turned out to be more hassle than it was worth
Yeah... I owned a Raptor. Sweet truck, but now I wanted a column shifter. 2020 STX. Go sit down and take notes joe dirt. You may learn something. Guess you never witnessed a Whipple Stage 2 in a column shifter STX, eh? 😂😂😂

Real trucks have a 3rd pedal and 5 on the floor.

Awesome . I’m looking to run wires to the center console for my midland radio .

Bryan Telker good deal. Let me know if I can help with anything else, and good luck!
What does it look like removed? Is there enough space to bolt an amp under it?

Chalie McG glad it helped
I was very interested until he talked about shifter location. That was enough for me.
Do! Where’s video 2! You leaving us hanging.

You’re just mad you couldn’t afford a truck with the center console shifter.
Yeah that’s why I traded in my 2017 king ranch F150 for this one...
