Hi Dave, thanks for your review. I've just bought one of these this week and the speeds I am getting in my 3-storey 1930's house (with engineering redbrick internal walls which really slow down wifi) is great. I use powerline wifi adapters at work but have been frustrated with the fact that devices tend to stay connected to the first device to which they register, which is really frustrating when you walk through the building. However the mesh technology really seems to fix that. I've got 100 Mb Virgin cable broadband and with the Mesh I seem to be getting download speeds of 107 Mb and uplload of about 9Mb which is astonishingly good, even funnily enough on the 3rd floor where I don't have a P9 device located.
Thanks for this presentation. I've readed lot of comment here, and some are to savant for me. I share my network on on router. The wifi has two bands, I think 2.4 & 5 + I have a private SSD and a "guest" SSD. To cut this short, can I use this to-link more like some sort of repeater, and keep my router as the main "handler"? Or is it more interesting to hand everything over to the tp-link? Thank you
Bought this with recommendation from this video. Disappointed, while general surfing is good with unnoticeable lag, conference calls such as zoom are laggy and intermittent. I believe it's due to the powerline, but Tplink does not provide any way to monitor and troubleshoot the connectivity, and I cannot turn off using powerline to test also.
Hi Dave, The Deco P9 3 piece arrived this morning and like yourself had to get stuck in straight away. I have a 5360 fibre moden 1GB connection from Eir my ISP in Ireland the old wi-fi was good about 360MB speed but problems started once you were downstairs under the concrete flood. First, I switched off the wi-fi on the modem then unplugged it. Then I connected the first P9 unit to the modem and turned both on as the modem came to lift everything lit in green normal except the wi-fi perfect. The P9 unit went yellow when first plugged in then changed to a flashing blue, I then connected via the Deco app on my phone to set up the P9 unit a new wi-fi, after a couple of moments I had to name the wi-fi which I did to the same name and password as my modem wi-fi had, so I did not have to reconfigure the devices that were connected to the modem wi-fi. When this was set up I connected a second P9 downstairs under a concrete floor. Again very simple to connect with the app. Then I checked the wi-fi speed here and got 260MB very happy with that in this area. The third unit I have not connected yet as I'm not sure where it will go. Very Happy with this Deco P9 wi-fi everywhere and no drop-off so far.
I had just helped someone set up the other system like this (Deco P7) at someone's home. Had tried traditional Mesh wifi with an Orbi setup but the thick walls and the distance between floors were causing bad speeds and connection losses. The Powerline/Backhaul component of the P7 definitely saved the day though, finally have good coverage for that space. Powerline can be a bit of a coin toss given how a home or apartment may be wired of course. The only thing for my P7 setup was one satellite had to be moved to another room upstairs, as the circuitry in the original room wouldn't keep the backhaul connection consistently. I do very much like that this is also a mesh in a mesh kinda, with the Powerline and Wifi connection working in tandem. Interesting idea by TP-Link and a pretty solid implementation.
I’m a college student that has no clue on WiFi, my parents need something like this, they have a Tp link arch and my question was do the mesh towers connect to the router share the interment with others or can I switch out my current router with on of these?
hi, I am having a detached house with a garage located outside my backyard which is around 10 metre away from my house which contains the socket sharing the same ECB in my house and in the same series of the socket where the main router is in. By using a traditional Mesh it's totally impossible to have the internet coverage in my garage, my drive and my backyard which is too far away from the main router under the stairs. May I ask for your advice whether this P9 can solve my problem as I notice that the signal can run through the power line as well? My other idea (not sure if it works or not) is that using the power line adaptor in my garage and connect it to an extra Access Point (eg TP Link EAP225-Outdoor) so that the same network can be covered in my garage, drive as well as the backyard. Can you advise which one can work and which is better if both can work?
Very nice system, not a bad price either. I remember a few years ago, well maybe more than a few, they tried using just the power lines in your house for internet distribution, did not work to well back then, but now that technology has advanced I bet this works flawlessly.
My existing router has 5 ethernet ports that I'm currently using. Can I continue using these ports or are they rendered useless once I hand over control to the mesh network? Wondering if I'll need to conplement my setup with an ethernet switch.
Love your stream and info. I have a fibre connection of 1GB to my home. The Router gives me about 320mb wifi and I.2Gb wired connection will the Deco P9 increase my wifi when it is used I also connect some devices by cat6 wired. My house has a concrete floor with 4" block walls throughout with the router placed inside my front door upstairs and the second downstairs and the third in my garage. Our house is kinda upside down we live upstairs and sleep downstairs. I'm hoping this device Deco P9 will bring mesh wifi throughout the house and garage if possible. Am I going in the right direction? Hope you can help.?
This sounds possible. I would look for a unit with as least one base and three satellites. I still experience speed drop off on the furthest locations.
Dave. I recently bought the product and have connected each node to an Ethernet. Excellent signals but have three different wifi links and while moving from one location to another, I have to manually chose the Wi-Fi net work since they appear three different links on iPhone Wi-Fi section. Any suggestions please?
Actually just another point about this type of product which I have discovered is that it creates a subnet so if you want your wired devices to connect to wired devices eg a printer or NAS, which would previously have been plugged into the Ethernet connections of your ISP’s router and these devices are not next to the Deco units then it may also be necessary to buy a gigabit network switch. I picked an 8 port Netgear switch for £19 which works well.
Can you use these with the xe75pro? I have to get wifi a long distance from one end of the house, to my garage. Signal in the house is strong, but getting it via the power line seems weak. Do you plug these into the modem or can they be plugged into anoter deco, to bounce the signal?
Very good video. Currently looking at these as we have just had an Annexe built. Unfortunatelly the WIFI does not reach to down to the bottom of the garden where this is. I was hoping this would work well if I put one down in the Annexe and one right at the back of the house. I want to keep the wifi in both buildings the same, so mesh seems the best option. As the Annexe will be for hosting family members, so they will be in and out of both buildings. Would you say this would be the best product to do the job. We currently have a BT powerline down there now which works. But it was a cheap one so is only giving out about 10mbps. Was hoping that this product should solve our problems. We also have another shed in between the house and annexe where we could put one to help with the WIFI MESH.
My understanding is you utilise your existing router (I have a BT smart router) with one of the Ethernet connections. My question is though currently I have 3 items hardwired using 3 of my 4 Ethernet connections on my current router. Can I still still use these or are they all defunct when the router then supplies this item? It wouldn’t be practical to place one of the extender units in addition to the one acting as the router as this would compromise its effectiveness and there is only 2 on the router one effectively 1 taking the connection to my router in to account. Hope you understand my issue.
Geekanoids great stuff, thank you for that. I’m very tempted as I use wireless speakers around the house and garden. Sadly the connection is poor to non existent in the far reaches of the kitchen and the garden so the speaker there more often switches on and off intermittently and it’s very annoying. I’ve tried a repeater and I can’t say it’s as good as I’d hoped or reliable. I just hope the TP link connects to all my appliances and items. Just watched a review that suggests it has problems, although the gentleman in the video did say the company was looking at resolving this. More research I think needed.
Hi and thank you for your informative review. I've just bought the TP Link Deco P9 set up with two units. My existing Router is the Virgin Media Hub 3 and I understand I can switch it to Modem Mode so that my Wifi is totally on the Deco Mesh system. My question is : Can I set the SSID and Password on the Deco P9 to be the same as the one for the Virgin Media Hub3 so hopefully all my various devices and systems can log on to the Mesh system as though it were the Virgin Hub?? or will I need to change over every single device to a new SSID and Password?? Many thanks in advance for your advice.

@@jorgemesen6854 Did you get the items yet? I am working on a friends place; older house. SIngle story but LONG house. Wifi extenders are just not working. Was looking at this for maybe more powerful WiFi, the powerline, and mesh so they do not have to switch networks.

@Jorge Mesen just to follow up - amazing. 500mb speeds coming down hardwired, with everything setup, other end of the house still pulling 150-200 mb. Guest house out back, around 150mb. Before with extenders... at other end of the house was getting 3mb, guest house was getting about 40 mb. Definitely happy and my friend is very happy!
Can you help me? I’ve just had a squirrel for fibre router fitted I get about 600 go downstairs to my other mesh routers I only get about 60 Mb per second averaging on the upload and download. I’m a bit puzzled to why I cannot get in any faster when I’m standing right by the mesh P9 downstairs they’re all connected. I can see that on the app is this okay or can I do something to improve the speed? I’ve got the mesh system set up, 2.4/5 GHz. Any ideas would be appreciated?
Sorry I no longer have this to check. However, it might be worth simplifying the network and test one part at a time. Process of elimination might point toward changing the placement of some satellites. It also might be interference.
So dave with these mesh network adapters these in particular, Basically the way i see it is you set one in your router thats downstairs then say like me, i need decent speed for my loft bedroom which is 2 floors up, Then you use one of these adapters but use ethernet cables to go in the back of for example an xbox/computer etc thats in my bedroom and they act as a wired connection if thats correct ? Because ive been using powerline adapters for a while now but now and again the signal strength can weaken on both of xbox and computer, and on my computer the download speed can drop out, so was wondering if they would do the trick ?
Hi, I'm new to this channel and also looking for some advice. I've got a Huawei b535 router coming, a 3 mobile data sim to go into the router, a poynting aerial to connect to the router and internally would like a hybrid mesh WiFi setup. My house has a lot of thick walls. Liked the tp p9 system after watching your review. I'm in a remote area, no phone line at all and no cable fibre. Do you think the above setup would be compatible and reliable?
@@geekanoids that's great. Thank you for your reply, very helpful. Having to learn all this new tech and it's made much easier by being able to watch your reviews and illustrating new possibilities. Many thanks.
Great video Dave. I'm currently researching mesh before I purchase. Is this the best latest system from TP Link? Also can I use 2.4 and 5.0 devices together?
We use a to link router in Spain with a mesh mini dish of the roof. Do no need for a phone line we still have to pay a provider. We get good fast WiFi throughout the two bed villa.
Hi Dave, I'm trying to get WiFi sorted in an external garage less than 10Metres from the house. Im struggling to under difference of choosing a deco mesh hybrid or just the TP powerline adapter(wifi included)? I'm seeing similar pricing between the two, but not sure what's best spec wise. Please can you help clarify differences between these two technologies?
Both use existing mains wiring for hard to reach places, so if you garage is on same ring main it’ll work. Otherwise maybe consider one of their outdoor units, I have one that reaches 25 metres.
@@geekanoids Thank you, It’s on the same ring yes so I’ll probably give the powerline option a go, and if it’s not suitable return and go for a mesh set up.
Are these compatible with OneMesh from TP-Link. Specifically can I add a RE300 to the P9's on my outside deck if I needed better coverage there and AC1200 was not available?
Hi, Great video! I’m looking for a Mesh WiFi as the current power line setup isn’t good enough. Looking at TP-link they have some many options, but I assume the P9 is the latest addition. But struggle with the differences between Deco E4 and M4, as they seem to state exactly the same and the compare option on their website doesn’t make me any wiser. Then there’s M9 Plus which doesn’t seem to get good reviews by Which?, but seems to be the fastest option though I struggle to understand that given the much smaller/sleeker design :-? I mean, if you can make them that sleek and still very powerful, why have the bulkier options? Is P9 the newest addition and recommended go to for normal household? Hope someone can make me a bit wiser before I make the decision :) Thanks!!
I went for the P9 as it combines mesh WiFi and powerline. This is much better for reach and performance as each Deco is effectively hard wired to the router. I’ve used WiFi boosters before getting these and performance diminishes byte further you go from the router. This get better performance than the router’s own WiFi and had the added benefit if providing 2 Ethernet access points on each of the Deco units
Enjoyed the video, thanks. But I've got a question I hope someone can answer. Can you plug an ethernet cable into the any of the units where I might want a switch for devices that have to be hardwired? Thanks
Yes this is one of the reasons I bought this system. I have my smart tv and set top box plugged into the two Ethernet connections on one of the slave DECOs and a smart speaker plugged into another DECO. Works as if you had installed cat6 cable.
Hi Dave! Nice video, I already liked it. I'm interested in this product because my walls are thick. So it seems P9 use electrical wiring instead/besides wireless between the units... so... does data travels through my regular electric wires or do I need special wiring? Thanks!
been watching your content for years now! amazing content Dave. could you help me with, what is the difference between P9, M9 , X60 TP-Link mesh wifi? thanks!
I want better wifi in my room. It's one the second story and my router is in my living room 2 stairs down. Do I still have the max potential and strength when I place a deco next to my bed? And can the rest of my family still use the wifi from the router
Hi Dave, looking into a mesh system at the mo’, would you think it would be capable of extending into a log cabin, (approx 20m from main building)? I’m given to understand that the powering feature may not work as the power will be on a different ring from the consumer unit? Many thanks
mesh wifi was interesting and all but the idea of having it as 3rd unit in Modem>Router>Mesh Wifi setup is a hassle. we need a PPPoE router that support mesh wifi to become as "Main Mesh Wifi" so the setup is much simpler and less clutter.
@@geekanoids i wonder if mesh wifi (main) are capable of ppoe mode that can entirely dump the router. it has ppoe mode, i assumed it should've been able to. what you think?
The Decos can indeed connect with PPPoE - I just set some up at my parent’s place, hooked up to a Huawei HG612 Openreach modem on a BT fibre connection. At home I have the Deco S4 connecting over DHCP to a HG612 on TalkTalk fibre (TalkTalk don’t use PPPoE, they use pass through DHCP instead). Both work great and no double NAT with either ISP.
I have been using the Deco M9 in bridge mode. Works fine but there is a lethal problem waiting to bite you. TP-Link in their wisdom, have decided if their devices cannot detect a DHCP server on your network they'll fire up their own and dish out IPs in a totally different subnet. Even in bridge mode. This creates havoc on a network and there is no way to disable it yet. There's quite some noise on the forums but absolutely no response from the vendor. It's a seriously stupid design decision, totally undocumented!
Hi I have the Hub 4 if I get this and use it in access point mode with the same ssid and password as the Hub 4 would they still work fine thanks I’ve tried power line adapter not done much for upstairs WIFE
Is there a way to connect to a existing WIFI network? My situation is a camping site where I can only connect one device to there Wifi network using a payed access code. Now I use a repeater to connect to that network en share it with all other Wifi devices, is this also possible with this mesh solution?
@@geekanoids I find a quote on there website, this is not supported. But I think I will order them just to increase Wifi coverage and network speed between my devices (video streaming). I can connect one to my current repeater.

I send you a picture to show haw thick the wall are in my House. My house walls are made with concret almost 28 cms wide and very wide still bars inside . So you can imaging the problems I had before got the TP link 9. No more now.
Has anyone got experience using these with multiple xboxes? I quite often have upto 6 xboxes I use at the same time in my house and I have a netgear nighthawk router which allows them all to connect with open NAT at the same time, something the Virgin Hub could not do. Can these be used just to provide WiFi but still use my router for ethernet connected devices?
ANOTHER video that doesn't actually explain how to create a powerline connection between two p9 APs! An AP can't do this through its own power adapter, and the box doesn't include the powerline box which takes the Lan cable to/from one of the Lan ports on the P9. What I'm starting to understand is, the powerline backhaul is only possible if you buy additional powerline adapters!
I use TP-Link mesh WiFi deco series and it’s quite good for the price .. I now get strong WiFi signal in all rooms across walls
That is really good to hear :D
Does it effect the speed of the original 5G router?

I've just bought deco m5 using with virgin superhub 4 is it best to put hub into modem mode?
It should work either way, but I always use modem mode.
That is indeed correct.
Geekanoids thats good to know then thought id ask the expert first before am tempted to make a purchase or try and ask for an xmas present 🤔

I think this would be a good choice. Best check with TP Link to be sure.
@@geekanoids that's great. Thank you for your reply, very helpful.
Having to learn all this new tech and it's made much easier by being able to watch your reviews and illustrating new possibilities. Many thanks.
So this uses powerline for the Ethernet back-haul?
Sorry I no longer have this to check, but yes, I think you are right.
sir.... can you explain the modem that being used before equiped tp-link still we gonna used it or we just use tp-link only as our main modem?
Best way is to use your existing modem, this is a router only.
Tq sir
Great video Dave. I'm currently researching mesh before I purchase. Is this the best latest system from TP Link? Also can I use 2.4 and 5.0 devices together?
Yes to both questions. It is a great option.
could you show us some speed test pls?
Sorry I no longer have this.
We use a to link router in Spain with a mesh mini dish of the roof. Do no need for a phone line we still have to pay a provider. We get good fast WiFi throughout the two bed villa.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this 🤓👍🏻
Hi Dave. In the set up process, when do you disable the existing wifi router?
I normally disable before setting up the new product.
@@geekanoids Thanks.
Got mesh wifi already...But this looks like a better upgrade than what i have...Why don't they come with cable plugs to plug into mains Dave ??
They come with figure 8 mains cables.
Thanks Dave. Enjoy the weekend.
Thanks Ron. You too.
Sorry I am not sure.
Dave do you know if you can combine this with Powerlines av600 as I have a garage at bottom of garden and at the moment using av600
I am not 100% sure but it should work.
Geekanoids what do you think of the Decco m4 mesh
Is there a setting to ensure it uses power line backhaul only?
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
You mentioned I have to turn my router into a modem how do I do that?
It is recommended if you have a modem/router to put it in modem only mode. Your supplier should be able to advise on how to do this.
So can I connect a device by ethernet directly to one of these nodes in lieu of a wifi connection? eg: desktop tower without wifi network card
If the Ethernet socket is there it should work for direct connection.
@@geekanoids thanks for the reply. So this tp-link mesh model all have Ethernet ports in each node?
@@geekanoids Thank you!
It works without powerline, only connected with beem??
Sorry I no longer have this to check but yes, it should do.
Is the network data being carried down through the nodes’ power cables?
I think so.
It definitely is. I had dead spots for WiFi in my house even using WiFi repeaters and wherever I plug these units into the mains I get full signal now
Can these be used in access point mode with powerline compatibility?
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
Hi,
Great video!
Hope someone can make me a bit wiser before I make the decision :)
Thanks!!
I have tested many and this was the best performer so far.
Geekanoids have you tested Deco M9 too? Because it’s really the two I’m split between, but not sure there’s a need to splash the extra cash...
Does this also use wired backhaul?
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
Will these be compatible with Sky Q broadband and Sky Q mini boxes thanks
They should work.
Do you think I would have to connected the mini box via ethernet i’m not Wi-Fi
Enjoyed the video, thanks. But I've got a question I hope someone can answer. Can you plug an ethernet cable into the any of the units where I might want a switch for devices that have to be hardwired? Thanks
I think this is possible.
Thanks!
Normal cabling.
been watching your content for years now! amazing content Dave.
could you help me with, what is the difference between P9, M9 , X60 TP-Link mesh wifi?
thanks!
They will vary in wireless protocols, speed and range. Many thanks for watching so long.
Geekanoids which one would you consider appropriate, for a 2 storey house and about 4500 square feet?
I want better wifi in my room. It's one the second story and my router is in my living room 2 stairs down. Do I still have the max potential and strength when I place a deco next to my bed? And can the rest of my family still use the wifi from the router
Hi Dave, looking into a mesh system at the mo’, would you think it would be capable of extending into a log cabin, (approx 20m from main building)? I’m given to understand that the powering feature may not work as the power will be on a different ring from the consumer unit? Many thanks
That is correct. I would suggest running outdoor Ethernet cabling if at all possible.
mesh wifi was interesting and all but the idea of having it as 3rd unit in Modem>Router>Mesh Wifi setup is a hassle. we need a PPPoE router that support mesh wifi to become as "Main Mesh Wifi" so the setup is much simpler and less clutter.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
Thanks for sharing this info.
Nice video Dave 👍
Many thanks 🤓👍🏻
Hi I have the Hub 4 if I get this and use it in access point mode with the same ssid and password as the Hub 4 would they still work fine thanks
I’ve tried power line adapter not done much for upstairs WIFE
I think it might conflict. If you put your current router in modem mode, then this would take over all wireless duties.
Thanks for sharing Dave.
Many thanks 🤓👍🏻
Is there a way to connect to a existing WIFI network? My situation is a camping site where I can only connect one device to there Wifi network using a payed access code. Now I use a repeater to connect to that network en share it with all other Wifi devices, is this also possible with this mesh solution?
I don’t think this would work.
@@geekanoids I find a quote on there website, this is not supported. But I think I will order them just to increase Wifi coverage and network speed between my devices (video streaming). I can connect one to my current repeater.
🤓👍🏻
Video is only about Power Line, for those who don't know...and nothing on how the TP P9 performs!!

Dear Will
Thankyou very much for your advice, I actually get the TP link mesh system, with three Deco. I am really happy because a finally resolve muy wifi problems at Home. I have óptical fiver services 30 MB /8 MB. Now I get 30 in my patio, 30 my balcony all around the House.
So thank you very much. I send you a picture to show haw thick the wall are in my House. My house walls are made with concret almost 28 cms wide and very wide still bars inside . So you can imaging the problems I had before got the TP link 9. No more now.
🤓👍🏻
I was expecting speed testing :/
Thanks for sharing your feedback on this.
Yes that should be fine.
ANOTHER video that doesn't actually explain how to create a powerline connection between two p9 APs! An AP can't do this through its own power adapter, and the box doesn't include the powerline box which takes the Lan cable to/from one of the Lan ports on the P9. What I'm starting to understand is, the powerline backhaul is only possible if you buy additional powerline adapters!
roootaah
Yep. That is the pronunciation in the UK.
