The images you used in the speed test section of the video appear to be intentionally misleading. You have taken more samples on the Deco and made it look as though the bar represents the speed test results.
Minor tip for anyone who bought a used device, you might have to reset the device to set it up properly. The reset button can be found underneath the device and pushed with a thin object (press till it flashes yellow)
Thank you! My wife is a remote nurse (case reviews of complex patients). We had plenty of Mbps but not to her study (10-15 Mbps). I hooked up the Mesh TP system and she started immediately receiving around 190 Mbps. She is very happy! If I can set it up, anyone can.
Agree.. I set it up at my mum's double storey home and both upstairs and downstairs have similar speed now. (Upstairs is where I place the main unit). Totally worth the investment. I could even play pvp games without issue downstairs now. Using xiaomi wifi extender downstairs was a nightmare as its speed and latency were horrible. Often have users dropping out of the wifi too.
I found out that the only difference between S4 and M4 is the certifications (aside from the form factor). There are 9 certifications that S4 doesn't have compared to M4. Does it affect the performance of S4 compared to what M4 can provide in terms of connectivity?
Deco M4 probably the best thing I spent money on in all my years of using WiFi which was so unstable and annoying every other day. Fixed every issue, speed and bandwidth.
That's exactly what I was looking for - 802.11K/V/R standard.. .trying to find out how the nodes kick your phone off one so it will be taken up by a better closer one was what I wanted to know. Modern devices are notoriously sticky even when 50m away and so I doubted that they'd work properly. Thanks for the info !
The TPLink Decos basically combine all the routers as well 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz all into 1 SSID. Your smart home devices will automatically be put on the 2.4Ghz so dont’ worry about that.
I bought tp link mesh network set for 600 Euro and then i found out that a have to pay extra money every month for decent parental control. This is deco set. Bought in 2023. I am crazy mad with tp link. I cannot control my daughters bedtime in the weekend. In the weekend she is allowed to be longer on her i pad. I have to pay een extra fee every month.
So do you plug the main one straight into the house's ethernet input, or do you plug them into your existing router? Can you also plug devices (like gaming PCs, xboxs, smart TV's) directly into one of these routers?
Were the units connected to each other via Ethernet when you tested them? I saw from another review that they did well when wired but likely when they weren't.
Can I check assuming I have data points in each room for a 3 storey house, what would be my best option? Should I get a normal router to put inside each room? Or should I get a mesh for each room?
Great video! I had always looked into mesh Wi-Fi in the past and always found it too expensive. I might have to get myself some of these as the advanced networking features look amazing!
Cool review! Before this, I was looking at UniFi, but now... Quick questions, does anybody know, can You wire all Decos to router individually? Also, can You connect something like TV or a console on the port 2 in the Deco, if the router is connected to 1?
very informative! question: on the ethernet connection I saw... can one satellite unit be ethernet connected to my desk top computer in center of house, which currently operates its wifi on a tiny usb plugin on back of computer? what I saw in this video indicated the blue ethernet line plugged into another satellite unit...thanks for your tutorial!
Google Email thank you! is it also possible to do similar w our master bedroom samsung smart tv? connecting the mesh unit to it w ethernet cable to improve loading or is a second modem required? our coaxial cable should be live all over the house even though there’s no longer a cable box attached to it in that room?
Megan Copeland One modem for the whole house. Each “mesh unit” has two lan ports. You can connect your telly to one of the lan ports of the mesh to improve the connection. Hope that answers the question
Great review! I have this system in my home and it works great. I need to extend my signal 100 feet to my barn; will adding another unit work for this?
I'm wondering if this mesh system can use the same name as the router network is using. Say if my present system is named "Jimmy," can the TP mesh units be on that same name?
Do these act as one network, or multiple access points? I have a network share on one computer, and other computers won't be able to discover it if it's not on the exact same wireless network.
They don't have gigabit Ethernet ports on the back, meaning that they only support up to 100 Mbps or less. If your internet speed is less than that, go for the E4, otherwise choose the M4.
Hi. Nice review! Does all the slave units has to be into the master unit wireless range, for connection, or can some of them bem connected between each other’s and only one connected to master unit? Regards
Yes the slave units only need to WiFi reach another slave unit as long as the in-between unit/units can connect to the master unit. So for example master unit cable connected to modem, which is wireless connected to slave in kitchen, and as long as slave in bedroom is able to wireless connect to slave in kitchen you're sweet. Excuse the plantation references
Had a 3 pack installed yesterday, worked great for few hours and all of the sudden both satellite decos aren't stable at all, and at times don't find the main deco at all. Any ideas on what's happening? I tried setting up the mesh network all over again but nothing seems to solve the problem.
Just bought this set and I also got a netgear router on my 3rd floor. If I put these on my first and second floor is that okey or is it better to disconnect my netgear router and only use these 3?
My main deco is connected/wired to my modem. I have another deco in my bedroom getting signals from the main deco. If I connect a lan cable to my PS4 to the bedroom deco will the performance be better instead of connecting it wirelessly?
I’ve experimented a bit with the M4’s . I think you got to mostly keep 2 units in visible range of each other meaning no wall between them. So long as you can do that, I think they have a pretty good range. i’ve gotten about 15 feet atleast.
Thinking of picking up a unit for a apartment that provides internet through a wired connection. Can I plug the wall Ethernet into the Deco and create WiFi network within the apartment.
Will this work on a Verizon Fios network? The reason for my question is my sister recently upgraded to a newer router on the Verizon network and the outside connection is more than 1000 feet away from her bedroom where she has lost WIFi connection in that part of her home.
hey do you use the PPPOE connection or WAN? my issue with google wifi mesh when using wan is that it has some weird double-NAT problems and PPPOE resolves that but halved my download speed. I was wondering if you faced similar issue with this one? if not, it might consider it
You're talking about Ethernet Wired Back haul and yes it's supported. You can hardwire a slave unit to the main unit (the unit that's working as the main router). These deco units have only 2 ethernet ports so you might need to get a multi port switch for more ports.
I've had the M4's for just under a year and I have had nothing but trouble with them. The main unit kept locking up and the network would go down. Sometimes it take half an hour of resetting to get it back up. I sent that unit back and got a replacement, but now the replacement unit is having the same issues. Tech support has tried coming up with a solution but no joy. So, after just a year, I have just purchased a set of Google mesh units.
i think mine crapped out, i had two power outages and i could get i back up from the last outage, i had cox in my area fixing the lines and my service went out but was fine then, like i said up to the last power outage i reset it up and tried to set it up but the red light kept coming out
Hi, I would like to get a 3 packs but planning to use 3rd one in a different location. Is it possible to use it as single node? Can I use it as router+ap for a small flat?
Can I use them with my current wifi router? I ask this because these devices (in particular the so-called router) only have one an extra ethernet port whereas my current router have 6 useful ethernet ports. Great video and thank you for it.
Bought this and connects but says there is no internet access and a red light on it. I connect line to my old Net gear and works perfectly. Run a cable from that to this and get a white light on the Deco!!! What am I missing? I have fiber optic connection that goes to a power supply and straight into the home with an ethernet connector.
Btw, for anyone interested, I’ve been very happy with this system. Don’t have any WiFi issues with this even with my iPad Air 2, which I think had a poor antenna design. It’s always had reception issues. The app is very simple maybe too simple
Just got these and THEY'RE AMAZIIING. Works as advertised and easy af to set up
what is the warranty on them?
@@PalaWootje 3 years!
Hi I see this comment has been 1 year ago, would you still recommend these? Thanks in advance!
@@HafizGhifari yes, for sure! They've been running 24/7 for the past year without any issues.
@@aledproductions3492 great thanks for the response mate!

One of the longest advertisement ive seen all week
I got these (3pk) can recommend them, full stable coverage everywhere in the house devices roam without any dropping. Easy to setup.
Are they compatible with Google home and Alexa?
Mario Brenes alexa yeah but dont know about google
@@crgeek09 i dont know about google zhome but i am using it with alexa
Are you using in conjunction with Router or u using in ap mode?
@@crgeek09 yes I have google home nest hub max and works no issues

I wish SONOS speakers had all these features :)

if i already have router connected to the modem do i plug this into the router or unplug the old router and plug in the deko to the modem

What a coincidence I just had them installed few mins ago, very happy with results all dead spots are gone.
Wow, sweet timing
Good work Ben. I like the security custom controls plus looks pretty powerful in comparison. Appreciate the post.
Thanks. I like those parental controls baked right in

Do You Think This Would Work With ATT Wi-Fi?
Thanks! I was planning on buying these for my parents. The main unit will be upstairs and I was wandering how well it will work downstairs.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot for your review! I'll definitely grab a set soon.
Do you have to connect to each one or can you program it to connect to your router so you can just extend the range
If the gigabit ethernet cable in deco m4 is limited to 100mbs how can you achieve those high speeds?, not making sense to me
5:00 so we can see others people history from different devices?😬 I'm not having it😤
You can do that with every wifi
Can you set up a 2.4GHz network to configure smart home devices that cannot use the 5GHz band (most cannot)?
The TPLink Decos basically combine all the routers as well 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz all into 1 SSID. Your smart home devices will automatically be put on the 2.4Ghz so dont’ worry about that.
Yes. I did just that - mostly for smart light bulbs.

Just discovered this channel today while looking for mesh routers. Great & in depth video & love the channel name 😋

That’s what I want to know, can we use a Ethernet cord for all the 3 device.. for faster speed instead of WiFi
What channels are they on? Can you change to prevent overlapping?
I think it does that automatically like new SOHO routers do
What are the ports in the nodes for?
Were the units connected to each other via Ethernet when you tested them? I saw from another review that they did well when wired but likely when they weren't.
i am using wifi connection -that's why i bought em, cuz have no way to connect via cable

Yes, I definitely appreciate the lower price point
With the first one connected to modem this is replacing the wifi router. Are you able to plug a cable from it to a computer directly to the main one?
Great video I hocked up this yesterday bit the last one is very weak signal is there anything I can do to make it stronger?
Do you recommend getting 2x m5 or 3x m4 for the same price 2100 sqft house?
What happens to your original router once you connect mesh wifi?

NOT directly wired to modem into one of the extra mesh unit ports?
Megan Copeland yes
I am asking if its possible to connect each deco to the modem as a main and to have 3 networks
Yes. You would be splitting the bandwidth coming in to the modem. Remember you can run guest networks too though
Great review! I have this system in my home and it works great. I need to extend my signal 100 feet to my barn; will adding another unit work for this?
Do these mesh routers work if you want WiFi goin to a stand alone garage about 15 feet from from main router (in house)?
I'm currently using the old deco, and it's working pretty great .
Also very nice video bro!!
That's great to hear, thanks for sharing
So the security features also mean that TP would have full access to all your personal data and browsing history.
Can we loop out from one of the units into a network switch????
Can the main deco that’s connected to the modem be moved to another location after it’s connected
I'm wondering if this mesh system can use the same name as the router network is using. Say if my present system is named "Jimmy," can the TP mesh units be on that same name?

Good question, yes I think so
Is it possible to use it even when my router doesnt support mesh? When I conntect them to my router?
Ben, what do you think about Tplink Deco E4? It is slightly cheaper. Thinking of getting it online.
They don't have gigabit Ethernet ports on the back, meaning that they only support up to 100 Mbps or less. If your internet speed is less than that, go for the E4, otherwise choose the M4.
Thanks for the insights

Is there any changes of speed deffer from main router to other 2 pack??
Thanks for the great review...
can I turn off 5GHZ or manage which devices use them?
Yes both can be controlled through the app
Do you like the mesh WiFi better in conjunction with your router, or do notice a difference in AP mode?
Can you connect the Deco M4 to a separate Ethernet cable for faster WiFi and connect a PC via Ethernet to the same unit
Yes you can
Can the deco be set up to be repeater instead of having 1 connected to the modem?
Should we need to pay charge for every months for this? Don't we have any wifi that works for forever in remote palace through the setlight?

Yes plug into pc for better
Can i connect multiple ISP connections? Like Fiber on one node and Cable on another node?
Do you also need a router with this? Or just plug your internet cable in.
Hi could I use these to plug my Ethernet from my pc directly into or would my pc require a WIFI card ? Thanks Adam
This may be a silly question but are these just routers or do these replace your current Internet provider?
Just a router
Am I need also modem or I can make one of them to the main modem (wire)??.
speed test at 6:00
Does this work with Hitron Coda modem/router? Or should I configure it only as a modem?
Thinking of picking up a unit for a apartment that provides internet through a wired connection. Can I plug the wall Ethernet into the Deco and create WiFi network within the apartment.
Yes I believe so
Does is have an extra Ethernet cable so I can hard wire my console?
I am totally going to love this system. Thanks for this awesome video

Can you add more nodes to add more range?
does the TP-Link or Google wifi mesh systems work with optimum?
Did you mix up your up/downs, or is your download speeds that much worse than your upload speeds?

How does it performs the signal against thick walls in the house?
Hi, I would like to get a 3 packs but planning to use 3rd one in a different location. Is it possible to use it as single node? Can I use it as router+ap for a small flat?
