    Hi. If you are using your house's electrical circuit with this mesh, does it work if you have separate circuits for the sockets on each floor?

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад +2

      Great question. If it all goes through one main electrical distribution board or consumer unit, then yes it should work fine. I have different circuits but one board and it works everywhere.

      Just want to add to this for anyone that spots in future. I have two consumer units and these things work fine. The power line functionality uses the neutral line and all circuit neutrals in a property should meet at one place if wired up legally.

    Hey, great review. I think one thing that you MIGHT have forgotten to mention, the powerline backhaul doesn't work if you're in access point mode, you'll need your main P9 to be in router mode

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад

      Looks like ethernet backhaul is the only option available in ap mode. Appreciate the update, thanks.

    Thanks for the video. Does the P9 have an option to speed test the router? I have a Gig and my mobile can't measure anything that fast.

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад

      You're welcome. I don't believe it has a built in speed test but it is capable of AC1200 WiFi and AV1000 Powerline. You need to measure your broadband speed presumably? If you can't on a mobile can you plug a laptop into the router with a network cable?

    If i understand, i can plug the unit in my ISP router, disable WIFI in my ISP router an let the DECO unit take over the WIFI portion in my network.. Two questions... 1. if i have a printer wire connected to my ISP router will the printer still been seen by others in the house? 2. is my suggested plugin setup correct ( meaning disable Wifi, i didnt find a modem only switch. just the WIFI disable option... thanks a lot for the video

      Hi, log into your ISP router with admin credentials and look for the option to put your ISP router in modem mode (you must be logged in as Admin). For my Virgin Media ISP router it's called 'Modem Mode', and it's a tick in a box. For other routers such as Netgear it might be called 'Router Mode' and you untick the box to turn the router functionality off. Your ISP router then just becomes a gateway to the internet, your devices don't connect directly to it. You then plug in and setup one Deco unit which becomes the router. Then place the other two Deco's around your house. All your devices, such as smart TV, smart phones, printers (wired or WiFi), will need to connect to a Deco unit. Either via WiFi, or network cable directly into the back of the Deco unit, or powerline adapters. Hope that helps. Google your ISP routers make and model to find how to set to modem mode, or post it here. Thank you.

    Hi
    I just wanna know that the main deco router will have the full speed from the modem or router that is Connected to by lan cable or not?

      Hi, connecting by cable will give you full speed and the best connectivity in my experience. But I also get full speed via WiFi too.

      @@TheReviewFella hi I had the TP-Links av2 1000 mbps powerline, from floor to floor they only reached 300 mbps, do you think that with the P9 system this will be the definitive speed that will arrive via wireless? Or has this system also improved the powerline system?

    Is it necessary to disable the ISP router? What happens if they are both on? I just installed one such and the devices just need to select which ever WiFi connection you desire. Seems to be working for me.

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  3 года назад

      Good question! For my setup, I followed the TP-Link instructions which recommended putting your original router into modem mode. If you don’t do this, it is possible that any other device you connect to it is actually running as an Access Point, not a router. And therefore not really a seamless roaming mesh setup. However, if both are connected and set in router mode, I’m sure it could work. Doing some Googling, it seems it’s not recommended as can cause interference and WiFi congestion. Although this is just the opinion of several people in a forum. But I’m no expert in this area, someone who is might be able to answer this more fully. Thanks for your question.

      @@donaldjeansonne8667 I have my set-up on since 8 months ago with the original router not in modem mode and everything works fine in my case. The only issue is that from to time the connection jam and I have to reset the router. When doing the reset I need to unplug the P9 unit from the router then wait for the router connection to be back up and plug back my P9 unit in the router. Other then that small problem the unit is working very well in a old house with thick wall and half the house with old electrical circuits..... So can't complain since the connection is available in the entire house (big house by the way 40 feet X 47 feet:):)

    After years of fighting with Google WiFi ..and even giving in to buying a 2nd gen Google wifi router.I've given up and purchased these. What are the Qos settings like..and does it allow you to prioritise more than one device?

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад

      I've had nothing but positives with these. Near enough eradicated drop outs and black spots. Getting my full 200Mbps in every room. I've not set the QoS, but you can set it in the app, and it looks like you can have more than one device.

      Hi, it should do as it uses power line communication through your electrical wiring as well as WiFi so is ideal for homes with thick walls.

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад +1

      It will depend on how thick your walls are and what your house wiring is like. The units will talk to each other over wi-fi, or through your wiring (via power line) if your walls are very thick. I can only talk from my experience, I have full WiFi speed in every room I have a Deco unit. It's something you won't know for sure until you try though.

    Hi mate,
    do you need to use all 3 units? i live in a smaller flat and dont think ill need 3 as it will probably be over kill. I assume I can just use the 2?

    • @TheReviewFella
      @TheReviewFella  4 года назад +1

      Yes you can use just two. They will work just as well in a smaller property. They don't need each other, they just connect to each other and widen the mesh network for every one you add. In theory you could have just one, or up to thirty two, mix different models too (P9 and P7 for example).

    ANOTHER video that doesn't actually explain how to create a powerline connection between two p9 APs! An AP can't do this through its own power adapter, and the box doesn't include the powerline box which takes the Lan cable to/from one of the Lan ports on the P9. What I'm starting to understand is, the powerline backhaul is only possible if you buy additional powerline adapters!
