I’m surprised at the small amount of people talking about the soundtrack. It’s honestly one of the most awesome parts about this. The heavy synth combined with the sounds of bells give of a feeling of dread and really hammer in the point that something tragic is about to occur. And the woodwinds at the end right when it cuts away from Goofy’s death. It gets me every time. Astonishing work.

Both of them interpreted the idea of "good soldier" differently.
Goofy meant morally. Mickey meant literally.
That’s the whole dilemma of this short film
@@fireryfists Indeed. "Good soldiers follow orders" is the theme here, whether or not you always agree with it.
@juan mateus Tell that to the guy who lost his life because his people are too weak to defend themselves.
@juan mateus Nope. Could be pirates, terrorists, or just simple thugs.
@juan mateus The nature of war, sure. But soldiers, no. There is always an aggressor and a defender. And even then, there is sometimes good in both sides, as well as evil. World War 2 being a prime example. War is a fact of life, there will always be evil men willing to do great violence on behalf of themselves and those above them. So thank God that there are good men willing to do great violence, on behalf of us.
Goofy could have leaked the dossier alone. He didn't need to tell Mickey. A part of him had to know that Mickey wouldn't leak it. But that part of him, the most logical part, had its doubts. It hoped that a man with nothing to lose still had a shred of kindness. He was willing to put his life on it.

What the U.S. government wanted was to contain the spread of communism, which Mickey was perfect soldier for because war is all he knows. Therefore he will kill as many communist as he pleases. As he states a soldier only destroys. But what the people wanted was their families to be safe. Which is what Goofy also wants. To see his wife and kids, hoping everything will return to normal.
Im going to be honest here, this whole saga is most likely the most well made anti war video and true example of what actually happened with soldiers, and how they dealt with it.
They masked stuff like this with their childhood, trying to forget the memories and combining it with their childhood memories to make it seem better.
I never thought something would be so well made. Truly is incredible.

I could see the progress from the one 4 years ago, 2years, and 1 year. You’re going places, keep up the good work 👍
Goofy son: "Dad don't go, you can die" Goofy: "Son, don't worry. No enemy is going to kill me, Mickey will watch over me"
Looking forward for Max ( Goofy's son ) saga!
And he was right, no enemy killed him; It was his brother in arms.
After all they call him All Seeing Eye...
OH SCREW YOU
Daaaam that comment tho
*”the only thing the perfect soldier should feel when he pulls the trigger, is the recoil.”*
That's why robots should fight. There is no such thing as a perfect soldier and that's because they're all human, the real perfect soldier would be an unfeeling machine that never questions orders. #droidarmy

To make this canonical, Mickey would need to shoot Goofy and critically injure but not kill him, his wife receives a letter that mistakenly states that he was KIA. His wife commits suicide out of grief. Goofy does come back but is dishonorably discharged, he is given custody of Max from CPS. A few years go by of them living in a trailer with Goofy barely able to scrape by after the Vietnam war, and then Goof Troop starts. This is interestingly why Goofy never interacts with Mickey ever again in Goof Troop or the Goofy Movies.
Does max join the gulf war after that
@@atlanvillegas2414He was too young, he went to college, presumably at 18-19 years of age in 2000 which is when An Extremely Goofy Movie was released. He probably was not drafted for the Afghan War due to his enrollment in college and value as an X-games competitor, but we will never know unless Disney releases another installment to the Goofy saga.
Mom: why are you crying it's just Mickey mouse?
Meanwhile Mickey mouse: don't make me choose between you and my country goofy
I hate how Mickey is selfish about this dossier. He doesn't have anything back home, but many of the soldiers, including goofy, have their families, their jobs, their lives. Yet, he insists on destroying the files, killing Goofy in process. Well made video, keep it up Snake!
Kolega Kacper no wonder they didn’t like Vietnam veterans
He's jealous
That's why he did it. The only thing he has is the war. It is everything to him.
Well, there’s that, but the Vietnam war was bigger than just the boots on the ground. The US Government saw Communism spreading fast, and they were terrified if ‘Nam went, then Laos, Burma, Thailand, all them Central Asian countries would be next. It was called the Domino Theory, and it scared the SHIT out of the ministry of Defense. Yeah, we did some fucked up shit in ‘Nam, but... anything to stop the red menace I guess was the slogan back then
That's the point, War has broken him down to a point where the thought of not not fighting it is terrifying to him, the things he did made him feel like he was no longer human but a soldier and a good one at that, as he said In the video good soldiers fallow orders that's it, they don't think they do. TLDR: war is fucked
You could literally replace Micky, Goofy, and Donald with actual people and this would straight up be indistinguishable from an academy award winning animated short.
[Edit: +One Year Later] So the prophecy is true...
True
Then, it won't be the same. This is an undescribable feeling of sadness which sums up to the confusion of Disney characters.
This is just a piece of art
It already is
Micky goofy and donald make this more real.
They're all just cartoons and puppets
Coffee&Data I'm not saying it's worthless with Disney characters. You just wouldn't see something so out-of-left-field like this being considered by the cynical Academy.
How could I get a Disneyland add before this
Oh you know Mickey... Mouse
This story hits harder than most "sad" Hollywood movies.
In a way it's better or on par with most Hollywood Vietnam movies
I love how Goofy’s design always moves but mickey’s is completely still, showcasing his stone-cold nature.
Huh, I never thought of it that way

Dude I know he's so fucking good at telling stories through pictures....usually horrible violent stories.
I feel like I could be watching interdimensional cable, and that this is a real Matthew McConaughey movie with a live action goofy in a tropic thunder style dark comedy.
If the point of art is to make me, as the viewer, feel something, then this is a goddamn masterpiece.
Gonna tell my kids this was Kingdom Hearts
Man...
I mean, isn't it?
King”nam” Hearts
I put him down, Donald. . I put him down ...simple and clean. When I walked away. He didn't say please mickey, don't go.
yeah it is
This has better cinematography, music and editing than 99% of new Hollywood movies.
True
And with no budget
if this is pulled by copyright it's canon
