@@itsallimperfect No, It was indeed Mickey since he at the start of the video talks about how god will make him pay for the things he has done, referring to killing his best friend and continuing the war.
@juan mateus The nature of war, sure. But soldiers, no. There is always an aggressor and a defender. And even then, there is sometimes good in both sides, as well as evil. World War 2 being a prime example. War is a fact of life, there will always be evil men willing to do great violence on behalf of themselves and those above them. So thank God that there are good men willing to do great violence, on behalf of us.
That scene with the fish, the awakening of Mickey and the other two to the cruel reality of death, the way you see Mickey sort of accept it more easily than the other two…beautiful flashback. This is how flashbacks ought to be done in movies more.
What the U.S. government wanted was to contain the spread of communism, which Mickey was perfect soldier for because war is all he knows. Therefore he will kill as many communist as he pleases. As he states a soldier only destroys. But what the people wanted was their families to be safe. Which is what Goofy also wants. To see his wife and kids, hoping everything will return to normal.
“I’m afraid that when I die, God will care about the things I’ve done. But I think I’m more afraid that he won’t. That he’ll sit there, picking his nails, barely able to summon the energy to judge me. Because what then? What if bad men aren’t judged fairly?” Holy shit, one of the most bone-chilling sentences ever said.
It never was comedy. Such is the harsh brutality of war, but also of men. The sick laughter of the lunatic as he kills the innocent. The tears of the jester as he shreds his own dignity for others’ amusement. The equal and opposite reactions. The balance. But one thing is for sure. The clubhouse was never the same without him, and neither was Mickey.
Child: “give a farmer seeds and he’ll create food. Give a musician a melody and he’ll create music. Give a soldier an enemy and he’ll create nothing, he only destroys, kills.”
Im going to be honest here, this whole saga is most likely the most well made anti war video and true example of what actually happened with soldiers, and how they dealt with it. They masked stuff like this with their childhood, trying to forget the memories and combining it with their childhood memories to make it seem better. I never thought something would be so well made. Truly is incredible.
whelp I'll say this, this is probably the greatest parody I've ever seen, like most parodies are either for to make you laugh for a minute or two or to just scare or disturb you but like.....this is fantastic, like i know other people's favorite parodies are stuff like egoraptor's awesome series or basically meatcanyon's whole channel or whatever everyone's talking about these days but i can tell this actually has some heart to this, i am very surprised i haven't watched this before, amazing work
Mickey said they were like brothers, so they probably knew each other well enough by now for Goofy to be able to guess what Mickey's gonna do. He still tried to appeal to Mickey's humanity, but he probably suspected what's going to happen.
@@generalrubbish9513 .... To be clearly be honest with you to be real for a sec. Things like this would need a sacrifice, from people's egos to saving life's. I can understand mickey but at the same time goofy is right the more people tells the truth the better things goes to normal or better yet piece and harmony
The opening monologue is some of the most realistic, impactful dialogue I’ve ever seen come from the internet, let alone a RUclips video. “What if bad men aren’t judged fairly” bro was cooking before cooking was even the term to use for making something like this
“People tell me to fear hell. There comes a point where you’ve done such awful things, that you wonder if the devil will welcome you as a friend when you arrive” -Mickey mouse
@@mini_tinibrasil3429it also represent Mickey had a will to kill than his friends whom in shocked to see the fish struggling while Mickey was calm and take his time look at the fish before crushing it with a rock.
“Donald tells me stories sometimes, about the ungodly noises Mickey would make early in the morning when he was consumed by his guilt. He tells me about the guttural wails and the agonized wails. The cries of a broken man. Minnie tells me about his restlessness. His late nights out and early nights up. About how absent he is, even when he’s with her. She says she doesn’t know what he does and she doesn’t want to know. She says it isn’t Mickey anymore, that she doesn’t love him anymore. Sometimes I feel bad for Clarabelle. Her and Max lost Goofy to the war. The more stories I hear though, the more I wonder if Goofy’s death was a mercy. Was his dignified burial better than watching him waste away to the husk of a man, like Minnie has had to? It has to be better than your lover being lost to the jungles of Vietnam.” - Daisy D. Duck
If Goofy had lived to uncover the documents, then perhaps they could have actually lived with themselves. Goofy's death was not a mercy, it was the end of mercy, for anyone.
Notice as Goofy tells Mickey about the dossier that he’s on the high ground, by a tree, symbolizing his moral stance. Goofy is also wearing a crucifix, while Micky isn’t. Goofy didn’t have to tell Micky to shoot, but it was the hill goofy was willing to die on. The details in this story are so on point.
I'll never not be amazed that despite all the wars the U.S fought across the world that Vietnam always remains the most disturbing, fascinating, and artistically rich of them all.
That because it was the first war to live on television especially the infamous Tết offensive which shocked the American audiences and populace to the brutal reality of war that they have never seen before only on textbooks or radio.
World War 1 was the war that un-glorified war because no one was really right or wrong, it was just a family dispute that made people at the time think that it was the end times. Vietnam, though, was the war that you could see "War" on a 24-hour News Cycle though and the US had no business being a part of.
"Give a farmer seeds and he'll create food. Give a musician a melody and he'll create music. Give a soldier an enemy and he'll create nothing,he only destroys, kills" -Lt Mickey 1969
I think this line would've had more impact if he just said "Give a soldier an enemy and he'll create nothing" instead of adding "he only destroys, kills". It sounds more philosophical, when a soldier kills he essentially creates "nothing"
“There’s comes a point where you’ve done such awful things you can’t help but wonder if the devil will welcome you as a friend when you arrive” is such a raw powerful line and I can’t process that is came from a freakin Mickey Mouse Vietnam parody cartoon
A youtuber once said "there's no such thing as bad character, only bad writing." And this video just proof it that you can make a wonderful story with any silly character that u had in mind.
Dad: Son, why are your eyes red? Me: I’m smoking da weed. Dad: Don’t lie to me, you’ve been watching Mickey choosing between Goofy and his country again haven’t you? Me:
What is the music playing at the end, during their childhood scene? It's such a perfect tune to tie down the emotions of the narrative. The ending scene is genuinely one of the best bits of cinema I had watched in my entire life. It's so chilling and makes me feel emotions I have never felt before. Such a strong series, massive respect...
I geniunely can not stop watching the ending. The scenery, the music, everything captures the desperation, confusion, feeling of being lost and bittersweet nostalgia perfectly. I love it so much. Reflects the morbid reality of life so perfectly
That's why robots should fight. There is no such thing as a perfect soldier and that's because they're all human, the real perfect soldier would be an unfeeling machine that never questions orders. #droidarmy
I hate how Mickey is selfish about this dossier. He doesn't have anything back home, but many of the soldiers, including goofy, have their families, their jobs, their lives. Yet, he insists on destroying the files, killing Goofy in process. Well made video, keep it up Snake!
Well, there’s that, but the Vietnam war was bigger than just the boots on the ground. The US Government saw Communism spreading fast, and they were terrified if ‘Nam went, then Laos, Burma, Thailand, all them Central Asian countries would be next. It was called the Domino Theory, and it scared the SHIT out of the ministry of Defense. Yeah, we did some fucked up shit in ‘Nam, but... anything to stop the red menace I guess was the slogan back then
That's the point, War has broken him down to a point where the thought of not not fighting it is terrifying to him, the things he did made him feel like he was no longer human but a soldier and a good one at that, as he said In the video good soldiers fallow orders that's it, they don't think they do. TLDR: war is fucked
This animation made me realize that The Mouse has this crown-like quality to his ears, compared to all the other classic Disney characters. Even if he's shorter than Goofy, he has this sinister royal feel to him
This has gotten to be point where it isn’t even a meme anymore. It’s an actual comment on a controversial topic that you handled perfectly. Side note, Jodie diddled Minnie. I’m not going to clarify this, it’s a joke. This video is still a meme
I don't know why but that opening just keeps coming back to haunt my dreams every now and again; with it's cold, unflinching, monotoned delivery full of sorrowful colored regret. Is plainly one of the most viscerally gripping draw ins to date I've experience by a while margin, it's simply a given must to watch the rest of that come next. Because Ethereal Snake has unironically made a masterpiece worthy of your eight mins
Mickey's body returned home after the war, but his soul was left behind. And truly, Mickey's soul was left in the only real home he'd ever known- the hell of war.
"What if bad men aren't judged fairly?... People tell me to fear hell, but there comes a point where you've done such awful things, that you'd have wonder if the devil himself will welcome you as a friend when you've arrived... The truth is I don't believe in anything anymore..." Phenomenal writing.

I know this is going to sound weird but this feels like a movie. The sound, the music, the acting, it all feels like I'm watching a very serious movie. You did a really good job on this.
Homie got some skills at direction and writing for sure. Not to be one of those dudes but when Mickey was gonna kill the fish, pretty symbolic of the whole synapse
The end scene where Micky Goofy and Donald are watching a fish die as kids is gripping here because it is the point where innocence is killed. Micky watches something die for the first time, and the event is potent enough to be preserved in memory. A brutal realization of life. This is gripping because in the war Micky has killed so many yet remains numb to it all. It is possible to think that prior to what happens on the hill Micky has never cried over the death of one of his victims. Yet when he kills Goofy its another brutal realization. Both this moment, and the memory of seeing death for the first time are shown beautiful similarities that only now Micky has the wisdom in life to see. The obscure meaning of death and our actions in life, and how none of it means anything beyond our own minds. Ethereal Snake has done one of the things great writers can only dream of. Conveying the complex abstract perspectives of life which cannot be spoken.
I love that Goofy closes his eyes. Mikey can't remeber the look in his friend's eyes when he died, because he couldn't look into them. He looked away when he shot Goofy
@@LikableSeeweed yeah notice the expression through the eyebrows and eyes where goofy and Donald are upset mickey is straight faced as if he’s completely void of that guilt
After surviving his suicide attempt, and going through therapy for his depression and PTSD, Mickey would eventually settle down, start a family, and get a job as a detective, with Donald as his partner. He needed structure in his life, and working as a detective was the closest thing he knew to being a soldier. That was, until Donald found out something he shouldn't have, and paid the price for it. It was at that moment, Mickey decided that if there was no God to judge this rotten world, he would take his place. And the world needed to pay for its many sins.
i think it would be more fitting if mickey in order to get redemption for his sins became a detective so that he could save more lives than the ones he took. with donald at his side, he began his war against crime and corruption. against the institutions that made him a mosnter. while the job took a toll on him, he was finally beating his demons. Until one night the same choice he made in 'nam came to haunt him, to do the right thing even if it meant losing donald, or ignore his moral duties but saving his last remaining friend. the look on donald face pleading him to make the right choise. this time he did. The ending result didn't changed. that night he realised 2 things. he will never get forgiveness from god. because god have abbandoned us long time ago. either way we need a complete series or feature film.
I really have mixed feelings about this. My brain tells me it should have been an actual movie from the 80’s. The setting, the gorgeous music, the dramaturgy, the characters (not the visual representation) are spot on and very well made. Heck you don’t see this kind of drama in today’s movies anymore. If I close my eyes I get really immersed, but seeing the cartoon made me realize that this was possibly the only way to reach a wider audience. Which is a shame but not the creators fault. I do hope if enough likes are reached this short drama gets a proper film remake. It would be a great homage to one of the most pointless wars in history. I live in SEA neighboring country to Vietnam which was also bombed during the war, and see it’s long lasting consequences as unexploded ordinances are still found to this day, often by unlucky farmers...I’m no social justice warrior, but perhaps this remake could bring some attention to the matter and more international help to the area.

I'll never not be amazed that despite all the wars the U.S fought across the world that Vietnam always remains the most disturbing, fascinating, and artistically rich of them all.
It's the most recent drafted war America has had. Hopefully the next one won't happen ever.
I think it’s cause that’s the first time everyone see and understand what war really is about, without all the filters
7:06 the most beautiful pice of cinema ever
