FYI,if you know the lyrics of bajie’s song. In the end the man is singing “in the next life please don’t look back” cause he doesn’t want to hurt her again. But the woman is singing “in the next life please do look back” cause she never regrets 😢

The epic of epic. That's why it's one of the four greats in China. It's not just a book. It's a collection of all stories that were created by this nation during thousands of years. Technically, Wu ChengEn, the writer of Journey to the West, is not the real writer of this book. He collected all different versions of the journey to the West and made them a book for everyone in the past. By the time passing, we added more different interpretations and means for JTW. That's why it's a so extraordinary work

Wukong's feud with the celestial court was basically him challenging the their rules and customs such as eating all the forbidden peaches of immortality or changing the fates of people regarding love and death. They got mad at him, couldn't control him, Buddha and Guanyin was asked to step in, and that's how the cookie crumble.
Bajie and Spider lady's story is even more sad. Bajie got reincarnated as a pig first before the lady turn into the spider. In Chinese, pig and spider has similar sounding of Zhu, and the lady misheard and interpreted Bajie as being a spider at first, so she chose to become a spider. At the end when she dies, it's implied the youngest daughter is Bajie's kid, but because the Jade emperor's curse on Bajie was so strong, he couldn't recognize her for fear of celestial harm coming to her.
The brotherhood of the Bull King and Wukong was basically broken by the Bull King's kid, wife and concubine. Bull King's kid was that red color hot head who was hurting everyone and wanted to eat Tang Sanzang that Wukong and his crew had to take the kid down. The concubine and the wife cause trouble for Wukong and his crew's journey, and they needed her powerful fan to blow out a volcanic fire which I think she or the concubine started. So overall, Bull King and Wukong's relationship was screwed over by the action of others, not between them.
That's what I heard from other people on countless forums. Not all of it is aligned with the actual story, but it's a good entertaining arrangement.

The fire on the moutain was actually set by Wukong when he escaped from a brazier that they were cooking him in as punishment when he first went to the celestial court (before he went on the journey to the west). As he escaped, he knocked the brazier over and some of the briques fell from the celestial court to Earth, hence why the fires refuse to go out. The daoist guy that you fight in the black and white battle arena was actually the attendant that was meant to be watching the brazier when Wukong escaped. He got demoted and sent back to Earth to watch over the fire mountain as punishment lol

Bull King and Wukong's relationship has always been a rivalry. Both of them has their own ego and women kinda did in fact smear their relationship 'unintentionally' as the time goes by. But the truth is, no matter what it is, when one of them is in trouble, they will not hesitate to butt in to save each other despite all the 'bad blood'. That's why their relationship was amazing and actually a lesson that everyone looked up for for asian ppl today.

The wukong's journey to Buddhist scriptures was forced and then bound with tight hoops. And all scripture-seeking is a game of the gods. The Buddhist sect and the Taoist sect are fighting in the dark, and they have done many evil things, but they don’t want to deal with it themselves, so they borrow the scripture-seeking path and let wukong, the chess piece, handle it. This includes the Bull Demon King. The gods here actually imply the central government of real society.

There's too much to explain but... Just think about it this way: Journey to the West is actually widely known as a satire that cuts deep. From a social point of view: all four/five of the crews are death-row criminals. Literally chess pieces. Buddhist and Taoist each played their cards along the way to try to gain more influence, that's why more than half of the bosses they defeated ended up being this Buddha's student or that Taoist's pet... It's like organizing a "tea party" but it's actually a nasty political battle between the Kennedys, and you're asked to host... Nobody smart enough wants that job. But these death-row criminals, of course, do not have a choice. The Bull King? Well, the Celestial Court planned EVERYTHING remember. There's no "accident" here. The Bull King is actually stronger than even Wukong, is basically immortal, and very well respected amongst the Yaoguai. So they can't kill him, they can't trick him, they'll just need to crush his pride and find some reasons to vanquish his troops to keep him in check. Just look at the final result of the Journey to the West: Both Buddhist and Taoist got a bunch of powerful units recruited, and either killed and/or crushed the forces of anyone else on the way. Wukong does not have a choice, none of them do. Bajie is actually very politically savvy, he was a Celestial Admiral afterall. If the Bull King's concubine does not die, others even closer to the Bull King will, out of the Celestial Wrath. Journey to the West may look like a hero story, but most Chinese know that it certainly is not --- Black Myth Wukong does capture some of that "darker" spirit. For example, the Headless Buddha in Chapter 2? He seemed nice right? Look into more details in game --- The Rat King is actually the one trying to save the people there, and the Buddha the one who trashed their lives. Chapter 2's final cutscene should've made that pretty clear: the final speech was given by that Buddha, who is basically telling Wukong "you, a mere Monkey, a Yaoguai, simply cannot exist amongst glorious higher beings like us Buddha and Gods". Promoting a "caste system" essentially, where of course, he and his colleagues would stand on top.

How did you read all of that from the text itself written in the 16th century, cited to be the source that popularize Buddhism in China. how can Tripitaka (唐三丈) be consider a criminal.
The entire story is about redemption of 5 people through trial and tribulation, you are not suppose to agree with their past action, each of their given name literally reflect what they need in the journey
      wukong (悟空) learn peacefulness
      pigsy (悟能) learn restrain
sandy (悟净) learn cleanliness in your soul
and if you know the lore behind the character, you will understand why there are in need of those ability
In my opinion the worst thing this game done is actually obscuring what make journey to the west good in the first place, it is a redemption arc.
Now that people keep reading conspiracy theory into the text, saying the celestial court must be corrupt or the Buddha must be corrupt because they goes against the main character, the journey itself is needed to make them better as a person, that is why Buddha set them onto the journey hence why Buddha is the good guy here

@@onvasean2485 A few misconceptions that you have: 1) Tripitaka as a historical person, was a well known and well respected Monk (For reasons too complex to go into here). He did the Journey in Tang dynasty, which was when Buddhism (The Chan variation, aka Sinicized PHILSOPHY, not really a "religion") got widely spread in China. 2) However, Journey To The West is NOT Written in Tang Dynasty, it was written in Ming Dynasty, several hundred years later. The Tang Monk in Journey To The West, while still obviously a protagonist (in fact one that represent one's social conscious and social restraints), simply NEEDS to fulfill some literary and conceptual functions due to the team make-up and his several symbolic meaning. Even the titles to each chapter in the original text eludes to what each character and each challenge is symbolic of. Which of the (several title-given) symbols is he eluding to? Now that's up to you to interpret, and you see how this is what makes this book so good --- No matter how you interpret the title, use the same assumption, and you'll find that there's shockingly no contradictions in the story despite the fact that you reach VERY different conclusions. You should never treat the historical and literary Tang Monk as if they're the same person --- Chinese people never did, many scholars throughout history commented specifically on this to prevent readers from getting confused. 3) The author of Journey To The West, again a MING Dynasty Scholar, started writing this novel when he's 60 years old. He has been an Imperial Court Writer and life-long friends with the Prime Minster, yet he has met lots of difficulties dealing with Imperial Politics and hence never gotten himself into high positions in the court despite his talent. His genius is precisely in the way he wrote every single character with symbolic meanings that can be interpreted at multiple angles and fit perfectly. Why else, do you think, out of hundreds of thousands of great literature pieces, THIS novel got propelled to one of the Four Legends, and endorsed by all the highest level scholars? Chinese scholars read into EACH WORD when they criticize a piece of literary work --- Children's moral-education fairy tales would NEVER make it into ANY Scholar's collection, trust me. 4) My friend, I know that your assumption that "Good guys need to be SCRIPTURE GOOD" is out of good will, but I NEED to point it out to you that this assumption is simply not true for Chinese people in general, and it is a little bit presumptuous to think that this SHOULD be how they interpret the world --- China is the world's longest, continuous, SECULAR civilization. The basis of Chinese Civilization, from I Ching to Taoism to Confucianism and later to Chan Buddhism, is SKEPTICISM. Is Thinking. Is Questioning. Is NEVER ceasing to question whatever faith you have, however difficult this may be. This is why Chinese greatest super heroes are the likes of Wukong, Nezha, and Erlang. All fought tooth and nail against the Heavenly Court. Western people could mostly only comprehend the "isms" as "religions", but in fact, they are philosophical schools of thoughts which mostly agree with each other in a fundamental level --- In the value of "None-Faith and None-Absolute". The number of successful rebellions (peasant rebellions instead of bourgeois rebellions, mind you) that occurred in China VASTLY over number the rest of the world combined. Take Buddhism for example --- A very common saying in Chan Buddhist is "Where is Buddha? In your heart, if you believe" and another one is "Why do we hold up-lifting rituals for the dead? It is to up-lift the living who need it". What does it mean? It means simply --- No one is treating it as an "absolute truth" like what "religion" typically requires from its believers. In similar ways, at no time in history is it a main-stream ideal that there is somehow an "absolute good" or "absolute bad". I'm sure you've heard of the saying "all things in moderation", indeed, and because of that it is VERY common for ANY Chinese Writers in the past to affirm AND mock with their writing, at the same time. It's a major part of evaluating the greatness of one's literary prowess --- Can you draw attention to both black AND white with just one single stroke. "Uncertainty" is the essence of life, because that which is very certain and unchanging --- That's a piece of rock. Or a pile of bones. Dead things. None-life. Clearly not great things to be. Now do you see the genius in details such as "Rebellious Monkey jumped out of a piece of rock"?

3:48:51 I believe that when Bajie was banished from the Celestial Court to the mortal realm, he did not encounter a 'random girl'. According to the original plot of 'Journey to the West', he met Gao Cuilan from Gao Village and married her. It wasn't until Tang Sanzang and Wukong arrived that Bajie reluctantly joined them on their journey to the West. Several years later in Pansi Cave, they met the 'violet spider'. The line the 'violet spider' says in the English version when she dies is 'you haven't changed a bit, you fool'. This is slightly different from the Chinese line, which is '你还是和那时一样笨啊' (You are still as foolish as you were then). It should be noted that Bajie mistook Gao Cuilan for the 'violet spider' and deeply loved her, so this line is a bittersweet and comforting reproach.

About the story of Zhu Bajie in the game
    1. The fairies living in the Moon Palace are all Chang'e, which is the name of a position. The White-haired Girl and the Pink Skirt Girl are both Chang'e. The White-haired Girl has a slightly higher status than the Pink Skirt Girl, and is responsible for leading the dance, while the Pink Skirt Girl is a maid. (This is mentioned in Zhu Bajie's character introduction card)Zhu Bajie was originally a marshal of the heaven, commanding 100,000 soldiers and possessing great power. He fell in love with the white-haired Chang'e at first sight. And the pink-skirted Chang'e fell in love with Zhu Bajie at first sight.
    2. Zhu Bajie saw that the man holding the White-haired Girl was the Jade Emperor, the supreme ruler of the Heavenly Palace. The Jade Emperor has a wife, and Chang'e has a lower status. The scandal between the Jade Emperor and Chang'e is a scandal for the Jade Emperor.
    3. In order to cover up the scandal, the Jade Emperor exiled Zhu Bajie to the mortal world and let him reincarnate as a pig, while the Pink Skirt Chang'e also reincarnated as a spider in pursuit of love. (In Chinese, "a pig" and "spider" have the same pronunciation, which also explains why they reincarnated into different monsters.)
    4. In the original Journey to the West, Tang Monk and his disciples once encountered a group of spider spirits, and Zhu Bajie showed mercy and did not kill them. Zhu Bajie and Chang'e in pink skirt also recognized each other and fell in love, so when Zhu Bajie left to continue his journey to the west, Chang'e in pink skirt was already pregnant.
    5. After the end of Journey to the West, Sun Wukong failed to get rid of the tight hoop curse, so he continued to fight against the Heavenly Court (at the beginning of the game) and was eventually killed. Zhu Bajie was also trapped. In order to prolong his life and wait for Zhu Bajie to return, Chang'e in pink skirt ate a relic of Sun Wukong.
    6. Zhu Bajie knew that the little girl was his daughter as soon as he saw her, but he didn't dare to admit it because he knew the fate of the Bull Demon King. If Zhu Bajie recognized his wife and daughter, then the tragedy of the Bull Demon King's family would be Zhu Bajie's future.
    7. Zhu Bajie is a man of friendship. He wants to help the man of destiny get the power of Sun Wukong and let the man of destiny fight against the corrupt Heavenly Court. He can accept losing his life, but he doesn't want to drag down his wife and daughter.

This game is basically is based on WuKong life after journey to the west, He want to live freely but heaven does not allow it. They sent the celestials army to destroyed his home and all his kind so he will be alone and thus he has no choice to summited to the heaven.
I think Er Lang is helping with his cause as you can see in the intro his fight doesn’t really harm him and when the celestial’s army start to fight him you can see Er Lang tries to split the fight. And I think in order to break away from the JinGu (the golden headband), he let Er Lang kill him and he split all the relics and wait for someone to regroup it. I believe the intro fight continue in chapter 5 video where he was betrayed and get killed. he tells his bull brother don’t collect his relic as he knew player come to take it.
So, in the end, like in video 6, player collect all his relic and he was reborn (some may say he inherited his will). We can see all his monke army died and his brother demon all perished leaving him drink alone and embark the fight to celestial court alone

However, when faced with the authority of the Heavenly Court, Erlang Shen chose to compromise and submit, becoming one of their subordinates, while Sun Wukong chose to stay true to himself. Although Erlang Shen and Sun Wukong refer to each other as brothers and admire one another, in truth, Sun Wukong’s actions reflect what Erlang Shen was unable to accomplish. This is why some suggest that Erlang Shen secretly helped Sun Wukong escape the constraints of the Golden Circlet, wanting to see how far he could go.

So he kept Wukong's spirit in his body for good (Erlang is immortal), and waits for someone who truly worthy to carry it on.
I think Wukong was never reborn, or never wanted to get reborn. His last fight was suppose to set him free forever by sacrificing his own life. The last scene of animation is actually connected to the beginning of the game, the great sage's death, he's going to fight one last time, but this time he's alone.
The player in the bad ending accept the band to become a new great sage visually, but in the true ending, we collected Wukong's spirit, knowing what does the band do, so we reject the band to keep Wukong's spirit alive, which means fight for all and live freely.

3:43:43 For those looking for some clarification for the chapter 4 ending cutscene,
Zhu Bajie was originally a Grand Marshall of the celestial court. He admired the white-haired lady (goddess of the moon) and chased after her. He bumps into a maid-in-waiting (Chang'e) and she falls in love with Zhu Bajie. Zhu Bajie finds out that the Jade Emperor is having an affair with the goddess of the moon and the Jade Emperor, in order to hide his affair, banishes Zhu Bajie into the mortal realm. Seeing this, Chang'e willingly gives up her godhood to be with her lover and gets sent to the mortal realm and transformed as a yaogai (spider).
After Zhu Bajie was banished to the mortal realm, he wakes up in Gao Village and sees Gao Cuilan (a different person; she is not Chang’e). He chases after her thinking that she is his lover (Chang'e) but after seeing his true form as a pig, Gao Cuilan gets freaked out and he runs away in tears. This is not Chang'e as she would recognize Zhu Bajie immediately.
Fast forward a bit, to the cave/hot spring scene (this is during the Journey to the West). He comes across some spider yaoguais taking a bath. He turns into a catfish so he can get a better look at the ladies (yes, in the novel he is kind of a pervert). He swims towards the spider lady (Chang'e) who immediately recognizes the catfish as Zhu Bajie. The two reunite as lovers, however the Jade Emperor has decreed that their love always be destined to end in heartbreak (Zhu Bajie was sentenced to 1,000 lifetimes of love tragedies).
An extra sad bit I found online:
The last lines of the song in the cutscene:

Deep in the story, all gods have an evil side. To put it simply, there are extremes among gods. There are evil ones, and there are extremely kind ones among demons. Gods and monsters are just definitions of gods with privileges from the upper class, not real definitions.

before the spider lady died, she said "you haven't changed a bit... you fool..." it was referring to Zhu Bajie mistaking Gao Cuilan as the spider lady, but also referring to him not recognising his daughter. That's why she said you haven't changed a bit. but Zhu Bajie knew the little girl was his daughter as soon as he saw the girl. He just didn't dare to admit it because he knew what happened to the Bull Demon King's family. It's super sad once you know the story behind it. In the Secret Boss Fight, after defeating Erlang, he unseals Sun Wukong's memories using his third eye (It's basically a built-in camera lol). Following a brief time skip, Wukong battles a manifestation of his former self. Upon victory, the Golden Band, a symbol of the heavens' control over him, is dropped. If the fight against Erlang is skipped, Wukong would unknowingly accept the headband since he never had his memories, trapping him within the stone and shackling him in servitude to the heavens-a fate that contradicts his original desire which is true freedom.
However, if you achieve the secret ending (which is this video), before Wukong dons the Golden Band, his memories flash before his eyes as he recalls everything, from the present battle with Erlang and the heavens back to the beginning of his Journey to the West. This revelation implies that Wukong would reject the Golden Band, finally achieving the freedom he sought from the start.

    • @Fulmerin
      @Fulmerin Месяц назад +5

That makes me wonder though, if he rejects the headband and chooses freedom, doesn't that mean the heavens would try to execute him again because his mere existence is a threat to their power? Or did him taking out the secret bosses, the four big guys and defeating Erlang, mean that they'll ultimately leave him alone from now on?
I suppose if it's the former, and he has to beat the crap out of the Celestial Court in God of War fashion, that'd make for good material for a sequel at least, lol.

To explain the very touching story between Wukong and the Bull King in the game: Wukong and Bajie indeed didn't kill the wife of the Bull King, they killed his mistress, who was seducting the bull king and breaks his family. Wukong unwillingly said mean things to the Bull King to push him away to the other side and fought against the currupted god by himself, only to save his brother. Because he saw the future what would happen if the Bull King fought along saide with him against the gods (during the cutscene, we saw that alterantive future). So if Wukong fails, the gods will spare the bull king and his family, so his family would not follow the same fate as Wulong. The Bull King finally realized Wukong already treated him like a real brother when Wukong died.

Chapter 5 anime explanation. That's the memory of Bull Demon King, the big brother of Sun wukong. death scene is not reality but his feeling and thought. After tons of failures, from family and life, he felt desperate and wanted his death, especially after he helped heaven kill Wukong. So that's a thought that what if i just die when the heaven beat me? I will have my salvation instead of this loser life. BTW, the translation of English for Zhu Bajie is not correct. The Chinese meaning is: after i took off her clothes, turn out she's a pretty fox i like, hahaha. That just means Bajie insults the lady fox's , the lover of Bull king, purity. But that's the memory from Bull King. And many western people misunderstand that Bajie didn't kill his wife, Iron Fan princess, but his lover.

Wukong cannot abandoned his emotions to be a god so he just gave up his duty. But for the heaven, that's unacceptable, so they killed wukong and separated his 6 roots of human nature to people who joined this hunting. This animation is an antecedent of the relationship between the old spider lady and Bajie in the game, and should be understood in 3 parts.
Part 1: Bajie, a simpleton commander of the celestial palace fell into unilateral love for the Goddess of the Moon. In his blind pursuit, he accidentally pumped into a maid, who fell in love for Bajie. But Bajie did not know about it. In his pursuit for love, he accidentally found out that the Goddess of Moon was dating the celestial emperor. The celestial emperor, to punish Bajie, banished him to earth and turned him into a boar demon.
Part 2: Bajie found himself in a cloth making factory, where he met a human beauty. He went through the hung clothes (symbolizing obstacles) to pursuit that lady, who also liked Bajie. But when Bajie went through all obstacles to reach that lady, he could not help but revealed his boar demon state (just like a werewolf involuntarily revealing itself under the full moon) and it scared the lady. So the pursuit of love by Bajie failed again.
Part 3. Bajie joined Wukong and Sha Seng to escort their master to the West. On the way, Bajie saw a bunch of ladies taking a bath in a lake. Being a love-stricken boar, he turned himself into a fish to take a peep. Those ladies were in fact spider demons. One of them was the maid which was ran into by Bajie in the celestial court mentioned in Part 1. As she had fell in love with Bajie, which is forbidden in the celestial court, she was also banished to earth and turned into a spider demon by the celestial emperor. When she saw the fish, she immediately recognized it as Bajie. When Bajie revealed his state as a boar demon, she also revealed herself in spider form and informed Bajie the reason why she was there. They fell in love and copulated. As the other spider demons tried to harm the master, they were defeated by Wukong and Bajie. However, Bajie spared the life of the spider lady and, sadly, went on to the western journey leaving the spider lady behind because he knew that their love affairs would attract the wrath of the celestial emperor if revealed.
In this game, the spider lady had actually waited for Bajie for hundreds of years as she grew old. When Bajie arrived, she tried to keep Bajie there by threatening to kill him if he did not comply. But Bajie refused. And it was then that the spider lady showed Bajie that they had a daughter. At the end of this episode, the spider lady was fatally wounded. Bajie however knew that he had to deny his relationship with the spider lady and his daughter to protect the daughter from being exterminated as the relationship given to her birth was in breach of the celestial rules. That explains why Bajie was holding back his tears when he turned away from the dying spider lady and his daughter, and at the same time the spider lady called out "You are just as stupid" before she died, knowing that Bajie, in making all the hurtful denials, was trying to protect their daughter.

The story about the Bull King. In "Journey to the West," Wukong and Bajie killed the concubines of the Bull King and captured his wife and children. In Chinese tradition, the camaraderie between comrades-in-arms is far greater than familial affection, especially the life-and-death friendship between Wukong and the Bull King. Thus, the Bull Demon King is unique; he is an exception who fears his wife and dotes on his children excessively. This causes Wukong to despise him, even to the point of revenge.

Original story about baijie was really about man got kicked out of heven because he was lusting after another angel. This rewrite made the whole story into romeo and juliet and weird cross species love between a pig and a spider. I guess the storyline is taken from modern interpretations.
