Thank you so much for raws and comparison! You also chose a very beautiful and suitable model for the session. For me, the raw files are very important and few reviewers share them, downloading raws is where things and possible differences are most clearly appreciated. In this field test carried out by you, the optical quality and sharpness seem to me to be very equal between the 2 lenses (I don't know if you think the same, that both objectives have practically the same sharpness, I see it like this on a 1900x1200 monitor 24 "), for me each one has its advantages and disadvantages, the DG DN looks the same sharpness with half the size and weight but it has much more distortion and perhaps a more slightly less soft bokeh, perhaps the DG DN has a little more contrast (I'm not sure), the DG HSM is much larger and heavier but has no distortion and can be used in both DSLR and MIRRORLESS, while the DG DN only in mirrorless. Well, once again I am very grateful for the great comparison and the raws! Than you so so much!!!
Yes, the sharpness seemed about the same to me. Another thing is that the DG DN version is much more pleasant to use, the HSM version doesn't always want to even take it out of the bag. This is despite the fact that I had bigger glasses, e.g. 70-200/2.8, but a fix of this size turned out to be stronger than me. And it's worth mentioning that DG DN has much faster and more tenacious autofocus, I shot a volleyball tournament with this lens and it was fast. The HSM version is only good for leisurely shooting. Also DG DN is better in chromatics, in flare resistance. Distortion is corrected automatically in the camera or in a raw converter, in all the raw converters I tried distortion is corrected atmatically.
Why do people judge video AF by speed? I know this video was made long ago, but every time I see someone judge VAF by speed, I just assume they don't know what they're doing. Correct me if I'm wrong. Apart from it, it's a very nice comparison and I think you covered most bases. They're really trading some blows optically, but in practice the D version is better for most people. Distortion really doesn't matter that much since we have in camera corrections and RAW correction works so flawlessly.
for comparing them correctly the picture should be shot with the same real esposition. As the newer transmits more light. The fact you can see better details in the newer's pictures depends on this aspect.
Nice video! very useful information! I have a question. In the autofocus test, when the lady walk on the grass, seems the skin tone of the old lens looks much better than the new one. Is that always the case or it is just for that case?
I think this is because the white balance and exposure in the camera were in automatic mode, in general, I did not see a difference in color in the photo.
Thanks so much for this indepth review.
Excellent comparison...great work!

The HSM version being heavier will be better to use handheld for video if needed.

Best comparison but u should put the to Canon R5 it’s little better 😅
Did it Support for cannon 90D
The DG DN version is only available for SONY and SIGMA cameras, the HSM version is also available for other cameras including CANON.
