Great content! The backing barrel is a great tool. I recently had to do an on the water fly line connection and the Uni worked well! Didn't realize this was the "nail-less nail knot".
Uni knot along with double davy is one of my favorite knots! Another advantage of using it to add a dropper fly to a bend in the hook, is it's easier to tie than a clinch because you can pre-tie it on your finger and easily transfer it to the hook. Great video as usual!
So if you can slide the uniknot up and down the leader, then if you put a dry dropper above it, you would not have to tie the line around the eye of hook, it would hit the knit and stop. Am i understanding that correctly?
Used the backing barrel with the 20 LB Orvis Dacron and it changed my whole game. I picked up the sighter, meaning tag, so much quicker. Does it make sense to be making my euro leaders now without the colored sighter since there is no need. Thanks for all you do.
Great video ! I don't knew where I got the idea of the uni knot was complicated. With your description, I mastered it immediately, that's not easy to say when you're talking about the 16/20 knot or the basic blood knot. I have one question, when you are tying two sections of leader, at what size difference do you go to the double uni ?
I got into fishing spin and fly 4 months ago, learned the uni knot first and then blood, palomar, surgeons, clinch, fg and perfection loop. I still use uni knot and perfection loop pretty much all the time. So easy, neat and strong.
What would you do to prevent the sliding when adding a tag line? In your demonstration there was a blocking knot but typically on a new leader it’s knotless
I understand your question. But if I didn't have a knot there already, I wouldn't use a Uni Knot to make the tag. Here's the video with three great ways to make a tag dropper. ruclips.net/video/UrlxSjjecSg/видео.html Cheers.
Recently showed my nephew the UNI knot and told him I used it for 90% of what I do while fishing ( knot related ). Fly, spin, or bait casting this knot is definitely a problem solver. Great video! I shared the video to him 👍
I’ve used the Uni knot religiously for all my time fly fishing . It’s the first knot my dad taught me in the old bass boat as a kid . It’s nice to see that other people are using it and using it for far more then I knew I could ! Thanks for the tips ! ✌🏼

Well, to be accurate, it's really close to the Nail less Nail Knot. Not exactly the same. Certainly works, though.

This pretty different than a 16-20 (Pitzen) knot? Being able to adjust it seem to be a better advantage.
Yes, it's different. And I agree, the advantage to slide it is a big thing. The Uni-Knot is really, really useful.
how would you attach 10lb braid to 4/6 lb fluorocarbon? My double uni always break off. I can do 10lb to 8lb just fine.
Hmmm. I don't have that problem. I would use the Double Uni, yes. Are you sure you're using enough wraps on the braid side? I'd use about a dozen.

Yes. That will work. Here's a video on three good ways to create droppers.

Hope that helps. Cheers.
Could you hang a dry off of it when tied as an adjustable sighter?
You COULD do anything you like, right? But I wouldn't do that. I would do this instead.

I wouldn't remove the regular colored line sighter. It shows direction, while a single backing barrel cannot do that. Cheers.
That's what I needed. Thanks

Thanks. Respectfully, I think you're misunderstanding something. You can't join two lines with a single/regular Uni. You need the double.
thanks you !
great info ..I learned something
Thanks. That's cool.
Awesome knot ,thank you.

Love it thanks

Back to back uni knot is 100% how I attach tippet to my leader. Been doing it for a couple of years now and it's never failed on me once.
Good call
Haha, love the Lord of the Rings reference. Thanks Josh and Dom.
Right on.
