I knew a lot of British police don't carry firearms, but I only recently learnt that some aren't even issued Tasers and OC Spray. Is that true? Seems a bit odd, but I'm used to every police officer carrying a Glock, Taser and OC while on duty. The only real time they're checked in is when due in court. Greetings from Australia.

Correct. All police officers in the field carry an extendable baton, but tasers, any spray and certainly firearms require training and in particular firearm officers always drive in separate vehicles etc.

@@bjorn2625 Thanks for the clarification. Any ideas why they don't do firearm/weapons training at the academy? Is it a political/legislation reason why? I really feel for British police having their safety compromised. I could just imagine the public outrage if a paramedic said "we couldn't defibrillate because we don't carry one as it's extra training". Stay safe out there.

@@coover65 it’s a philosophical belief that police is asking the population not to carry firearms and they won’t either, by default. Thus the aim is to avoid an arms race on the streets. Coupled with probably the strongest gun control laws in the world, it means most police officers go through life without touching a gun or having a gun drawn on them.

What should they be driving? Vauxhall is basically making the same models as Opel, Range Rovers are a lot more expensive than other SUVs and the other british car makers i know make sports cars for the most part.
