I know it's 4/15 now, but it's still 4/13 in my heart, where it really matters. I have never seen a calendar in my entire life. Behold, my biggest project and most visually incoherent video so far.
Homestuck has been one of the most important and most influencial pieces of media in my life since I've discovered it in 2012 when I was in high school. Over time, because of its nature as a webcomic from the first half of the 2010's with frequent hiatuses, my interest in it fluctuated, but since a few years ago having people in my social media feeds still engaging with the fandom and being enthusiastic about it made memories resurface and made me regain interest in the comic, its fandom and more importantly, its fanart community !
I originally thought about making this since the end of HS in 2016, but only started to make progress more than a year ago. Back then, the scope of this project was much smaller and I thought I could crunch through the process and make it in time to release something for the 10th anniversary on 13/04/2019, but when I missed the date I decided to go back and include every song I had cut for brevity, re-track every part I had rushed to try to fit the schedule, include a ton more stuff... Meanwhile, I got involved into other projects, graduated, got a job, but one year later I'm finally proud to release this babby !
As per usual with my covers I experimented a lot with new stuff during this time, this was the first thing I recorded with my now not so new 8 string guitar, had the opportunity to record about half of it with my electronic drumset, and tried a lot of arranging and production techniques. Since it was my first time doing a project of ths scale, every step of the process was challenging and I had to try a lot of new ways to stay efficient, or else. It became clear very early on that I had to split the medley into several parts for management purposes and so my computer could handle the project files, even though I envision the medley as one big piece. As I said this was recorded and filmed over the span of more than a year, through different seasons, with varying lighting, at different times of the day or night, in different places, with two different phones, so the result is quite a poor visual consistency but it still showcases most parts I played and wanted to feature alright, so I'm happy. I also asked Tricky_goddess, a fellow HS fan that I met in the Discord of a band we both like, if she could make a cover artwork to go with the album release of this medley, and she greatly did so !
I hope I did justice enough to all this music that has been part of my high school soundscape and that definitely helped shape the way I envision music to some extent, from helping me actually picking a DAW and getting into producing music for the first time to influencing my arranging and songwriting, as well as getting deeper into VGM.

I was considering making a joke or something, but like. An hour-long tribute with just one guy to arrange and perform every instrument. This is phenomenal. I don't even want to imagine the amount of time poured into this. I feel like trying to figure out what my favorite section was would be a disservice to the rest of this masterpiece, considering there were 50 other minutes of passion and effort. ... What the FUCK. What an absolutely bewildering amount of effort and skill jammed into this. There's been so much nasty damn shit around Homestuck that really just... Didn't need to happen, my happy memories of it have been so poisoned over the years. But for an hour (AN ENTIRE HOUR?!) you kicked my ass right back to 2012 to enjoy it, just on its own merits and terms. Even aside from the ridiculous display of skills, that was just a really nice thing to have happen. So thanks for that.

Holy shit this is so good, I can only imagine the amount of effort that must have been put into this! It's a crime that I'm only just now seeing this, it brought back so many old memories. Every minute of this nearly hour-long video is filled with so much talent and passion, I'm definitely going to have to re-watch it a few times. I also especially love the Your Best Nightmare/English part, it was very creative and it really fit the theme. This deserves way more views than it has, I'm definitely subscribing after this.

Oh my god that Gold Pilot rendition is SO GOOD, one of the pieces I've been trying to do on my own but so much of this even the immediate Unite Synchronization went off, this is A FANTASTIC LOVE LETTER to the entirety that is this 12 year old comic. WOw, should have seen Touhou coming with those trumpets early in Bronze Rebel! Very nice
So it turns out the reversed message around 48:00 is "I'm gonna fight Andrew Hussie". Honestly it was very tedious going through the reversal process but definitely worth it as I just immediately regained all of my expended energy, 10/10 easter egg
This whole medley is excellent, with well over a hundred microarrangements that all blend together beautifully. Special shoutouts to Sunsetter (I always love Sunsetter, and this especially wonderful rendition is even better when just sPRINGING majestically uninvited and perfect out of The Blind Prophet) and Dawn of Man (I hadn't really heard the original before I'd listened to the medley a few times, so when I heard the thing I was like hey that's the thing from the other thing, haha funny recursive michael guy bowman reference!)

This is literally the best medley of anything I've ever heard in my entire life. I can't believe I didn't find this sooner. RUclips Algorithm should have known I was a Homestuck over a decade ago from all the Octopimp I watched. WHY did it not show me this until JUST NOW?
i first listened to this medley when i was nowhere near done with homestuck (act 3 or 4 probably) and had never heard 90% of these songs in my life. as of now, i finished homestuck 2 years ago, moved on to other things, but i still come back to listen to this medley ALL the time. especially after reading everything, this medley holds SO much sentimental value for me. it has made me shed tears more than once. music transcends everything. thank you for creating this, i love it :)

Also, I also want to thank you for this music because I listened to this on repeat for many, many all-nighters this semester.
