Really enjoyed your honest approach to selling goats for meat. Most people in the goat business doesn't discuss that side but it is part of raising goats.
Thanks for sharing your experience. 40 goat for $5700 total great 👍 Which means each goat 🐐 You sold $142.5. But if you open restaurant And sell the meat you can make more than that.
That’s a good way to get all your bucklings gone at once, glad it worked out for you. I have to say that I do make quite a bit more than that per kid just on selling them as pets and brush wethers to individual buyers. For that purpose here they go for $150-$225. Thank you for your videos
How do you let people know that you have brush wethers and pets available? 🤔 Wethers are great outdoor pets and awesome for brush control. We started with smaller goats because they are easier to handle as we learn.
Thx for the walk through. It was very informative. I'd like to get to the point where you are and sell about 20 head a year, and keep a few for myself.
Glad you were able to get a good price for your goats. Thank you for sharing your story. And pray for you and your family as you begin your chemotherapy 🙏💕
Very interesting it’s kind of sad but totally get why you have to sell it’s your business and you need to make money for your farm love your videos love following you ❤️❤️
Addison Ranch also gave positive feedback about Chickasha Meat. I am in the market for a working system for goats. If I recall correctly, you have one from Northeast Gate Co. What is your experience with their product?
Could you describe the differences between a #1 goat and #2 categories? What were prices for lower categories? Got a doe who just didn't fill out and will be selling her privately for meat.
The #1 kids are the more meaty healthy kids #2 kids are the more thin kids. The lower prices from a #1 was about 60-80 cents difference. Thanks for watching
Information that would be helpful. How much more were you able to sell them for at the new location that you were able to get at your previous location. Would definitely help knowing whether it was worth the drive.
New to your channel. I grew up with an uncle that always had goats,I have a small place and am getting into goats. Right now I have been buying commercial does. You seem like a very honest friendly person,my question is would Kiko or Boer be the best buck to get for a herd sire? I live north of Albany NY about even with Bennington Vermont. Things are very green here with a lot of rain. There are both breeds around me. I like the hardiness of the Kiko and the meat on the hoof of the Boer.
We appreciate you watching and subscribing!! If you are going to raise commercial kids for meat I would have Kiko nannie’s and a boer buck. The red heads tend to bring more at the meat markets. Our Kikos have competed with the boers to get the #1 prices.
Nice looking animals. For raising just meat goats for the market I don't mind an extra teat. I would think if not registered and sold that way you could realize more income than selling at a terminal market. Do you suppose the buying station you went to sell any of the females like that or if they have a feedlot for the better ones? Were they mostly Jan kids?
Great content ! I will be new to raising goats , I am going to get some boar goats , Question Let’s say there’s a 20 month 150lb goat & A 65 lbs 8 month goat , would they pay the same per lb? & do they pay the lb of the whole goat ? Or do they do some type of calculation that calculates the meat only
Thanks for your transparency and sharing your trip. If I may ask is there an age limit to the age of the goats? Will they buy for meat 5 years old and more?
Than you for the videos but I do have a question I have a buckling with great color and he is 49 pounds at weaning weight but he has a Waddle under his chin and I wanted to keep him for breeding stock do you think this will decrease the value he is also 100% new zealand
Do you have a video that goes in to the planning and organization of how to raise the kids and sell with a minimum of expense? I’ve heard about needing to keep the buck off the does until the right time to get the kids to drop at the right time and then let them stay on their mommas until they’re ready to ween and then you sell them before you start having to feed. Do you go into all that detail?
I don’t have a video like that. We control when our bucks go in so we kid out at the same time then we try and meet the higher market prices when we wean in the spring.
@@BoisDArcKikos I’m planning to build my pens this winter and prepare for my first goats for the spring. Some areas I have struggled with learning about are how to layout and plan my pens to make working easier and more efficient, as well as timing/scheduling. But I know nothing about it and haven’t had the time to visit neighboring farms. And even if I did, everyone’s running cows around me. I have about 2 acres dedicated to chickens right now. Red heads seem to always do better at the sales. The dont care if they are registered or not at the sale barn. Special sales they care about the registration & pedigree.

Those were Jan/Feb kids. Yea the extra teat is ok as commercial but a fish teat we cull. Don’t want to pass that on.

We run Kikos in Ohio and our drop off place likes them to be 70-80 lbs. 40 lbs seems small for market trips.
Yea the range was 40-50 in our area a couple of years ago but that has went up. We are always pretty get adg higher.

Thank you for your honesty. We are new to farming, do we need to register every goat before going to the meat market?
Your welcome.
Only thing you have to do before going to market is put a scrapie tag on them.
Thanks for watching
I seen a car in the line.... wonder how many goats they brought 🤔
There was a couple in line 😳
Thanks for watching
Do you have to do any extra paperwork bringing them across state lines?
No we didn’t have to do anything extra. They had our farm tags on them that is all.

65# goat is going to bring more
They pay more for the whole goat
Thanks for watching & following us we appreciate it.
Moring all thank you for the informative video.
I'm curious.
What is the goat meat used for?
Who are the main consumers?
We get it grind up to a hamburger type and use it in lots of dishes. Foreigner’s eat it as their #1 meat
Thanks for your transparency and sharing your trip. If I may ask is there an age limit to the age of the goats? Will they buy for meat 5 years old and more?

No it won’t decrease in size he will get bigger and make it look smaller.

Do they loose much weight on the drive and what can you do to reduce it?
If they did lose weight it wouldn’t be much. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the content ! Great info

New to meat goats, just got some boers kids. Do purebred goats do better than mixed meat goats at auction or the meat plant?
Red heads seem to always do better at the sales. The dont care if they are registered or not at the sale barn. Special sales they care about the registration & pedigree.
do you have to have any special paperwork to sell your goats to the meat market?
No
Just scrapie tags
To get the tags does the usda or government come out and inspect your farm?
Great channel
Thank you

Yes he did. He was a good looking meaty commercial buckling.
