Very good explanation! Goats are a fun animal to raise and use as a tool on the homestead...you have a meat product that is much smaller and easier to handle than cattle...great video!
I am moving me wife back to her home in Gainesville Texas next summer to help with her aging parents. I am wanting to start a herd. And have been hearing the kiko and Spanish are the best breed for North central texas. I will be watching more of your videos and maybe see you in a couple years to start my own herd.
Nice job Josh, lots of informative info for newcomers or anyone in general who's wondering what the difference is. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the explanation on the classifications. I’ve read about it a couple times and it never quite made sense, your explanation was clear into the point. Much appreciated. Wife and I are looking to start a goat herd in the spring, would like to do Kikos.
I truly learn and gain more information on managing meat goats registered or not on your channel, but when you mentioned how the buck will start urinating on his legs and beard to attract the does to kick off the breeding season, I came up with a plan.... I asked my wife if she would be more attracted to me if I urinated on my legs and beard... The Warden said I would be sleeping outside. Back to the drawing board.... Lol, thanks for sharing your knowledge👍
Thanks. Start off by buying from an individual breeder who raises quality stock. It might cost a little more but you are way ahead. Thanks for watching
Hey man I am researching and completely invested in wanting to get started in Kikos. I am limited on property. Could you please do a video on a breeding program and how you can do it with 1 Buck. Thanks in advance
1 buck can cover 30-40 does easily you will just want to separate him after breeding season so you can control when your kids will be born. If a buck is left in all the time kids will be born spread out. Thanks for watching
Thank you! How does it work putting daddy over the daughter?! I can’t afford to pay top dollar for multiple mamas and a heard sire. So I was thinking about the breed up program
I grew up on a farm with my grandpa that always had commercial goats and plenty of land. I plan on building a homestead and have already purchased land so trying to find the best way to maximize profit with goats on minimal pasture and still have strong healthy animals! Any advice would be highly appreciated!
When you cross with a Kiko buck, does it only apply to commercial does or can you cross a register buck on any doe regardless of breed or mix to get the percentage.
Registered Kiko buck to any doe will get you a 50% Kiko doeling then it goes up from there. It has to be out of a registered Kiko buck and you can’t register buckling til they are from a purebred doe.
I got a question. If I bought a small farm, made a profitable bissniss out of goats, put a double wide in it a shed or 2, would a up and functional got farm sell for a profit.
Going to want to switch every few years to bring in new blood. You want to make sure you have a good fence to separate the bucks daughters so they don’t get breed as you are growing them out.
If I got a newzealand kiko buck and I breed it with a regular off breed goat will the kids be 50% kiko? And if I keep breeding the kids with 100% newzealand kiko bucks will the kids eventually turn to 100% newzealand kiko after 4 years?
Yes your first kid crop out of your registered buck will be 50%. Yes you can do a bred up with your doelings to 96%. It takes 4 times then they will be able to register at purebreds.
You say new zealands are all registered, but I do have a few New Zealand kikos that aren’t registered but they are out of registered NZ goats. I bought them as commercial with no papers to get started
All New Zealand’s come from the original gentics that entered the US in the 90’s Yea without papers they are just commercial. But at least you could register them later on if you needed too.
That’s a preference I have sold starter NZ starter purebred herds & commercial. Really just what you want. Nz are going to be more expensive Thanks for watching
Fill out NKR forms on registered sire bred to a unregistered doe then the doeling can be registered at 50% to get 75% breed to a 50% doe to a registered sire then you can get a 75 percentage registered doeling.
@@BoisDArcKikos thank you very much for replying so quickly. Would you mind sharing what the bucks would cost now and updating the nannies if necessary, please?

Dad over daughter is line breeding some have success some don’t. I think it’s to close so I would do grand dad over daughter if I was to do it.
🎉 use by see all so close😊❤ ice on
How old was Mega Watt when you filmed this? He’s a huge goat.
3 years old. Thanks for watching
What price do the commercials go for? Also is commercial the terminology used in all breeds when referencing standard goats with no lenyagy?
350 is what we sell them for and yes they are just non papered goats.
Thanks for the info. My father had some goats when I was young but I don't remember much about them.

I have registered some to keep as breeding stock or a breed up program to purebreds

So can I use a NKR purebred billy to do the breed up program?
Yes you can use a purebred but purebred is as high as you can go with a purebred buck
@@BoisDArcKikos thanks for the info
May be a dumb question but. Do you always keep the does with the bucks or are they separated?
Not a dumb question. I separate them until breeding.
I got a question. If I bought a small farm, made a profitable bissniss out of goats, put a double wide in it a shed or 2, would a up and functional got farm sell for a profit.
I don’t see why not. Goats are growing in the US. It’s the # 1 meat in the world. Goat prices are up too
Thanks for watching
How important is to switch bucks to prevent inbreeding ?
Going to want to switch every few years to bring in new blood. You want to make sure you have a good fence to separate the bucks daughters so they don’t get breed as you are growing them out.

I'm not seeing any website links.
Will there be any sales coming up this next season?
Yes there is another Kiko sale coming up in November 6-7 at okmulgee fair grounds it’s the cuskga Kiko sale.
If I go 5 times will it become 100% newzealand kiko
No you only get New Zealand breeding New Zealand to a New Zealand
@@BoisDArcKikos ok thank you for clearing that up for me

Do you get 100% breeding of your goats? Also, do you ultrasound your does? And do you feel it is necessary?
Yes I do get 100% breeding in our goats. I don’t ultrasound I blood test pregnancy. No I don’t think it’s necessary. Thanks for watching

Now are Kiko still being brought into US or is semen from NZ being imported to keep genetic diversity

How much do NZ's, pure breed and commercials cost?
