    Thanks for getting the video out quickly. A couple of thoughts after seeing this video (Note: I travelled all over with a GR2 for a year) :
    1) The issue with the front compartment on a GR2 is that if you stuff front compartment with pouches and stuff, its basically unusable to use any of the mesh pockets and organization. The GR2 IMO works much much better when its understuffed so you can properly utilize its organization. It is also weirdly shaped that its deeper at the bottom and slimmer up top so hard fully utilize the front compartment sometimes
    2) Agreed GR3 is probably best for someone who is not necessarily living out of the bag but going to a location and unpacking. GR2 is well designed to live out of.
    3) CTB35 straps suck compared to the GoRucks. couldn't deal with it eventho I loved the organization.
    4) Lastly, GR3 is probably best pared with a daypack or kitbag. Something so you can keep your small stuff organized as the GR3 wont offer that. I can imagine using this GR3 with a Bullet or a kit bag when flying so i can keep my jacket, snacks, ipads etc well organized and next to me while the bag sits in the overhead.
    Excited to get mine next week.

    Bought the GR3 35l today. I already have the GR2 34l but always wished it was a single big compartment. After Seeing the on body shots at 7:14 I was convinced, the GR3 looks a lot better because of less depth and more width.

    My Goruck travel bag journey started with a GR3 45. Used for a good while traveling for work, almost every week on an airplane. After a year or so I was swayed by the hype of the GR2 40.
    My GR3 moved on to someone else and I used the GR2 40 for maybe a year. One issue I had with the GR2 was when one compartment was stuffed, the other was a bear to zip up. Plus I preferred to use packing cubes vs the mandated compartment sizes in the GR2.
    When the GR3 45 came back in stock, I moved on it and having it back was such a relief. So easy to pack and I missed the side cinch straps it has that the GR2 doesn’t. I’ll wrap a sweater or light jacket in them if need be.
    Now a 35l GR3 has joined my larger one. Love it! Going to use that for a while on the weekly airline travel for work. Superb bag and the QAP is a nice change.

      So you like the GR3 35L more than the GR2 40L?
      I need a one bag solution and I was looking into the GR2 34L or maybe going bigger and getting the GR3 45L? It's for longer trips 3week+ in and out of hotels and cities like Tokyo and Manila, so lots of walking. You think I should just get the GR3 45L? Maybe I'll get the GR3 35L if you like it more than the GR2 34/40L.

    • @tzolkosky
      @tzolkosky 5 месяцев назад

      @@ConnahJayIf I were going for 3 weeks in and out of hotels, I’d take my GR3 45l no question but that’s me. I don’t have high tech shirts and pants that pack down really small. If you do then the 40L GR2 might be a good option if you stick with packing clothes inside their zippered webs. Packing cubes work best with the GR3 45 over the 35. The 45 will perfectly fit 4 10l Goruck cubes and the 35 will hold 2 10L in the bottom pretty well but the top tapers up too tight for one more side to side. You can pack their split 10l up top in a 35 with room on the sides to stuff things.
      The 45 when stuffed is big. How tall are you etc?
      One bonus on the GR3 is the side compression straps that also aid in strapping a sweater or coat to the side.

    It's definitely a matter of packing things differently between the GR3 and the GR2. I haven't yet had my hands on the 35L GR3, but I have owned several 40L GR2's and I have always been able to pack more into my CTB35 than I ever could in the GR2. It's really just a matter of HOW the items are packed that makes the difference in which one you can get more stuff in overall. I would bet if the items were packed in smaller cubes or the Evergoods cubes you would get more in the GR3 35L & CTB35 than the GR2. The Peak design cubes take up a lot of space. They were my first packing cubes and after trying others, I gave the peak cubes away.

    Thanks for comparing the GR3 35L to the Evergoods CTB35. I prefer the CTB35 over the GR2 34L and was curious to see how these guys compared. I do like the GORUCK straps over Evergoods (Hill People Gear > Mystery Ranch / GORUCK > Evergoods). Love the 210D backing on GORUCK's newest gen packs and wish more folks would do that. It definitely isn't abrasion resistant (just ask my Rucker 25L) and wonder how Evergoods' backing would do in similar conditions (concrete).
    I don't ever recall using the bottom attachments for the GR3 45L so it's a nice to have but not necessary (unless you're going camping but I would never take a GORUCK pack camping or hiking).
    The thing that pushes the CTB35 over the top is the convenience of all the external quick access pockets, which eliminates the need for a tech pouch (saving space).

    How are the straps on the CTB 35 in comparison to the GR bags? I tried the CPL24 but the straps were really not comfortable for me. Also, how does the black GR Heritage compare in color retention as it ages and packability since at least in the case of my GR1 Heritage it seems to form around items better allowing me to pack it out better/more than my 500D GR.

    • @JBOutside1
      @JBOutside1  6 месяцев назад

      The EVERGOODS straps are mostly about the same. Maybe a little thicker on the bigger bag but I'd say the same style. You may have the same experience unfortunately if you found the other one uncomfortable. As for the black heritage it shows wear a little easier I'd say but doesn't really change color. You can always re-wax.
