    I had the 2007 Panda 4x4 with no locking differential. It was awesome. Daily commute plus anything that I did in the sticks was easy. 3 firefighters plus me bouncing over fields was a hoot as were the trips to Norway and Sweden. Now I´ve the diesel Cross. Still a great little truck so long as you remember the limited ground clearance. She can do an umpteen point turn if a track is blocked. 400 miles on a tank of diesel with M&S tyres on. I love Defenders - icons of the 4x4 world, yadda, yadda but Pandas are up there with the best of them.

    The little Panda Cross 4x4 did really well against the Defender, clearly the lighter weight is a big advantage over slippery terrain ⚠️

      Totally agree!
      I had the good fortune of driving the older diesel 4x4 in Italy a couple of years ago up the side of a mountain track. It astounded me with its agility and tenacious ability. My wife was terrified, as was I, but it was one of the best driving experiences I've ever had.
      In Italy they are highly regarded but here in the UK it is unfortunately largely ignored or made fun of by the big boys club.

    Nice to see the moderator has finally learned how to drive off-road, especially after he threw the comparison back in 2004 between the X-trail and the RAV4. The RAV4 was best in all tests, then he limped up a muddy hill and of course the RAV4 lost traction. The woman in the test drove the X-trail like any open diff car and ran it up the hill at high speed, which kept it from spinning out and not making it.

    The Defender looks nicely bogged down at the end. This is an older model without terrain response (or lockers), which you can clearly see at 5:04-05. Can't help wondering how much difference that would have made - but of course this is about the Panda :-)

    This is pretty funny vehicle. Funny like good joke is 😅 If you'd be looking at something small, just get Suzuki Jimny. I know there are a lot of people who are just obsessed over certain brands, but I gotta admit I never found any reason to be obsessed about Fiat, other than obsessively avoid one 😆

    • @ricco123tube
      @ricco123tube  2 года назад +2

      I respect your opinion but totally disagree.
      Jimny is terrible on road, truly rubbish, and therefore not practical unless you live in the wild
      The Panda 4x4 shines in all environments, and as someone who has driven the older Jimny and all versions of the Panda, I believe I have a fair idea of their characteristics and real world usage.
      I don't believe in judging a vehicle by it's badge.

    • @finnishfatman
      @finnishfatman 2 года назад +1

      @@ricco123tube Well, to be fair yeah I would agree that same year models from Jimny are pretty damn rough, older even more so. Perhaps I should've been more clear and compare newer versions of both.
      And I agree, Jimny isn't that great onroad vehicle, but while even the newer Jimny's are still somewhat rough, for Finnish weathers (especially winter, which is pretty long here) I'd take Jimny over new Panda, because Fiat's just can't deal with our weather that well. They always had all kinds of issues and are well known to be not that reliable cars. I'm of course talking about conditions in my country, so perhaps somewhere warmer it could be alright.
      Thing is tho, if you need something to "do it all", there are much better options, because Panda just doesn't do anything well in particular. It could be decent city car when driving around slightly rougher roads (admittedly finnish roads are pretty bad, even inside cities 😅). For it's price I suppose it's not all bad, since they are cheap here (for a reason...). But for the same price I'd rather buy few years older Kia Sportage, for example. All the places Panda can go, Sportage can go as well and both get stuck in fairly similar places. Difference is, Kia will last you a lot longer, at least here.
      Panda isn't bad for being relatively cheap, but still it's not worth it compared to similarly priced vehicles that can do same stuff, but also offer better reliability and space.
      Some while ago my brother (jokingly) suggested I'd buy 2017 Cross model, since there was 1 being sold in my town. I had to take it for a spin just because (I like to do that, kinda a hobby of mine and my wife's 😆) and it was kinda like driving my mothers 10 year older Yaris, except with Yaris you get all kinds of plus features it being a Toyota, other than Panda's AWD. Kinda wobbly car on road and doesn't corner that well and it felt like driving a small tractor. Of course the feeling of it might've been a bit different if I didn't just hop from 12 years older Golf GTI, so the comparison is very unfair, I admit.
      But overall it just doesn't do anything well enough to justify it's price here. It's small, not comfortable to drive on road and for "off road" (as in regular go-to-summer-cottage trips) you don't even need its AWD or you could buy something that costs the same and offers much better utility. I personally don't care about brand-loyality, I care about reliability and utility and neither of those are present in Panda, at least for the conditions we have here in Finland. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️

    Just drove one in Iceland's Westfjords fir 12 days after the rental company swindled us. What a shitbox it was on the gravel roads of those Fjords. What handling?
    Now the engine (gas twinair) wasn't all that bad, but problematic is the very low redline, particularly problematic for that really low first gear and also because the ratios are so spread out. It ends up causing tons of issues off road and I was bumping against the intrusive rev limiter constantly. Also, the air intake is pretty low, so we avoided a moderate stream crossing at Kaldbakur. As far as going up steep grades- yep, it does, but that shitty suspension, flexy chassis, and tiny wheels and tires do it no favors. Hill descent is unneeded because it rides the brake and heats them up.

    Protective skid plates? They look metal but are made of plastic, so provide no protection whatsoever. Embarrasing, and a shame because its a great car otherwise. Better off getting the standard 4x4 panda, as the terrain control on this is a gimmick. Does nothing more than provide hill decent control. The ELD button on the 4x4 does the same. Costs lot less also.

    • @luca7069
      @luca7069 7 лет назад +3

      Has an extra 1 cm of groud clearance, better attack angles, and if i'm not wrong the very short 1st gear and the 90 bhp are not available on the 4x4 (the Twinair just gets 85 if i remember correctly)
      Very little differences, but maybe it's just that little more some people need for their off road needs

      Luca Mino cheers for the reply. I had the panda 4x4 diesel, new, couple of years ago but the engine and gearbox was awful over 60mph. Im tempted with the twinair version, only because the panda cross is a bit pricey for what it is, and great discounts available on the standard 4x4 (UK)
