"Almond is almond" Sums up the house brand vs branded. You're just mostly paying for the advertisement costs for buying the branded one. In fact, some house brands actually buy in bulk from the suppliers themselves (removing the middle man) then rebrand it themselves since it's cheaper.
Sometimes branded has better quality. But no hard and fast rule. Sometimes house brand could be more expensive than branded. U need to do some research and experience to know. Nowadays, online buying could even be cheaper especially during special day and vouchers, cashback, coupon
@Bob yup, you get what you paid for, LOTS of ADVERTISEMENTS in one product against No Advertisement for the same thing. YOU basically paid for the advertisement because you need to be amused, delighted and be told what IT is not, after all.
Everything including Dryfruits also have different qualities. It's upto brands to choose between what they want to procure, sort & sell at what price. In this case, many countries have non retail-chain shops→ individual ones have sorted in large bags by different qualities instead of different brand names. Get as per your requirement & pack there. Because some brands either make expensive packs & some are low qualities like having mold(fungus) or dusty or the item itself bad quality. Thus, it's better to check before than after-sales legal cases or loose money, time, energy, effort, things during need & mental peace & satisfaction.

I always purchase the house brand as you call them or store brand as they are called here in the USA. Some stores here also offer a generic brand that is cheaper than the store brand products. For an example let’s say the name brand product costs $10. The store brand costs $7, and the generic brand costs $4. The only time I purchase a brand name product is when it’s on sale and I have a coupon for it.

I think individually wrapped toilet rolls make it easier to be packed into different quantities or sold individually. House brands are a good thing for competition because it means that branded goods have to improve their products rather than provide the baseline for consumers. Not all products can rely on brand alone in the long run as inflationary pressures push more consumers to house brands.

So interesting. Especially for house brand food - because for food, beyond the pricing differences, taste is probably the more important aspect for most people. For non-food items like soap, etc. don't think that's actually much difference, boils down to preference & how comfortable you are with a certain brand.
I agree, I buy house brand if the quality and price is good, but if the branded is a lot better and priced higher for a good reason then I will probably buy that. Sometimes I switch because I like the different taste On soap it depends on the smell and how strong chemicals you need for cleaning. A cleaning spray I bought, barely manages to clean stains and leaves a bad egg smell

Some things I ok with house brand but some of the house brand the quality isn't that good. For example if you try 玲玲卷 the soybean roll, Fairprice brand one taste odd compared to other brands... So rather then always looking at price, sometimes it's really preference 🤔
When I was working on a retail department before...."some" of the house brands are well-known brands but they just put the name of the store in order for the price to go down. Not really sure how my previous company and that "main brand" come to an agreement but that main brand is also being sold on that same store. This is only an example so that it will be easier understand....for example your store name is "xyz" then this company have the "XYZ toothpaste"... little that they know that the xyz toothpaste was made by "Colgate" but branded as a house brand. So they have the xyz toothpaste and colgate toothpaste that is being sold in the store. That is only an example....I use toothpaste so that it will be easier to understand. I am not telling that all stores do this....but "SOME" stores do.

I think I dare to assume the house brand cheaps are Fairprice's own chips. Those that sell at $1. The seasoning is really better than the "branded" ones
Remember, these are NOT "generics"! These are "store brand" or "private label"! Now in the 70s/80s there WAS in fact honest to goodness "generics" with plain black/white packaging and NO label/name of any kind!
We also have "house brands" in the Philippines, particularly in SM, Puregold and Robinsons the 3 biggest chain of supermarket/grocery here. It is true that most of the house brands are cheaper than those more popular or what we call "branded" items, however it is not all the time. In SM, they have this coconut cooking oil called SM Bonus coconut oil and the price of it is actually higher than some of the branded coconut cooking oil. It maybe beneficial to some consumers but I think this practice is killing some other brand names. Back in late 2000's or early 2010's, SM tried to convince Colgate Palmolive to be sold as SM Bonus products in SM supermarkets. But Colgate-Palmolive did not bite on the offer, hence, their products were temporarily banned in SM. Several months or I think even a year that you cannot see any products of Colgate in any SM stores. According to some news I heard from some of my marketing colleague that Colgate did not accept the offer because they do not want to lose the brand recognition for their products. So during that time whenever we buy toothpaste in SM its always close-up or some of their competitors. But everything is back to normal now.
For house brand, it is just re packaging. Especially for food, i wont consider house brand, i think let the expert do the thing. If you are a supermarket, lets just stick to what you are good at. In term of price, it is obviously cheaper, but the source is the question.
Brand manufacturers has to and must make house brands for the various supermarket chains. If not, these brands would not be allowed into any of their stores. So you can have gardenia bread sitting alongside house brand breads that gardenia makes for the chains.
Actually i made the switch to house brands not necessarily on the price. The potato chip for instance, of fairprice one has less MSG, seems to be more healthy.

The comparison in the video is trying to lead people to think house brand is no different. I completely disagreed.
Beat inflation? Increase our salaries to match it then.
The use to be cheapest NtucFairprice house brand 3in1 Coffee increased from $3.25 to $3.60 and now to $4.10 within two months...
it is called home brand in australia's woolworths
A lot of time at least in my area the store brands are not even available anymore.
Any INFLATION can be removed, in any company or corporation, it is in the manner they are forecasted, established and realized/reconciled, while quality is excellence and quantity is superb. 2022 onwards...././.../.../../ Respectively..G.M Industries.
I’m just here horrified to see the oil being poured down the drain. 😩
*Another great documentary by CNA Insider and this is so informative* 👍
Common sense. Nothing new.
Maybe price is lower but in some products quality is also lower
What is the profit margin for House brands? Do they make more money because it is not a Branded product?
I wanted to change my child milk powder to cheaper brand but i cant find fairprice come out with it ,now cheapest full cream milk powder 600gm is $7.20 ,if fairprice can come out house brand i believe it will help
Plastic milk. You drink ?
House brands save marketing money and put it to make a comparable product at a lower price.
i havent bought name brand sodas for a year now. double the cost is not worth it
Hi all remember the $75/pack whole NTUC chicken. We will never ever forget it Ntuc...
Why not have NTIC house brand frozen chicken?... Cheapskate.
Trust is not easy to return.
Compared to other supermarket ntuc is still overpriced! Bring back SILO. It is union buy at cheaper than even the heartland stores.
I remember Silo. Quite surprised to hear you mentioned it. Have not heard anyone talking about it for a long time
lmao I have always been buying house brand. Looks at their nutritional content and ingredient, they are like nearly identical with branded.
Actually the quality not much diff, the diff only the price and packaging.they bought bulk from direct supplier and repacked it back.
Unfair price not good. Buy legit brand expensive or buy unbranded from neighborhood stores.
Public dont understand what branding is, its just in the name, product and quality is the same. They are paying for the brand name not the quality.
Consumer taste in future: $15 per fish ball, awful taste and half the nutrition, but co-branding with IG influencer with 150,002 followers.
Buying brand= buy product + buy brand value
Buying house brand= buy product
For milk I still prefer HL same for dog bcs we like the taste bcs taste like real milk I tried gave NTUC milk to my dog but he drank ¼ he don't want to finish.
the fairprice potato chips are the bomb tho
Singapore got nothing. Everyday are waiting Malaysia to delivery foods for us 😔😔. So many boss earning money then Singapore buy Singaporean buy again 😔😔.
When i started seeing eggs and rice comparison btw house and branded. I laughed. No much difference between 3rd and 1st world just branded words.
We have them called store in Nigeria .
I buy Kirkland (Costco). Their quality is good.
Lol toilet roll not really necessary 😂 a water hose and soap then towel good enough.
They never talk about the household detergent, the brand 2 isn't clean.
as usual 😌PR campaign for gov again
TLDR: buy house brands for products that you don’t really care, but need to use them.
killing the local manufacturers business in Singapore with house brands..
