I figured it out when my son was diagnosed about 6 years ago but I finally got my official diagnosis just last week, at the age of 38. My autism has really affected my employment, resulting in a demotion at work just a few weeks ago. Now I have a clinical diagnosis for my communication issues and my meltdowns and I'm so grateful for it.
I have a journey of receiving a diagnosis right now. It is a tricky situation, because I have depression. A psychiatrist see some traits of social anxiety and adhd. However while I have depression I can't be fully diagnosed with adhd because depressed people also have some level of innatention. Also I have some autistic traits, but my mum doesn't see it. I think that now my psychiatrist is pretty confused but I am glad that I can continue this journey of self discovery..
I just got my late autism diagnosis on the 22nd of may 2024. Just 8 days ago. I'm 43 years old. I'm forever grateful for autistic youtubers like you. It means the world to me. Thank you. 🏆❤
After about ten years of gradual realisation, I finally got my diagnosis 4 days ago, 10 days after my 54th birthday. I didn't expect to feel so much grief and loss at this point. I already have a diagnosis of cPTSD and I've suffered from anxiety and depression since childhood. I saw a really poignant quote yesterday: "We've never seen autism without trauma as well."
In retrospect, I've always shown signs of autism and ADHD. When the idea occurred to me that I might be, I took the online assesments from the reputable sources. They all agreed that I'm autistic, and the lack of focus and intense focus on things that interest me are part of it. Definitely not ADHD. So I was half right, but at 64 I'm also too old for a reliable diagnosis. I've never really "masked", per se, but I do edit my behavior as a camouflage, fading into the background so I don't have to pretend to be human all the time. It's less stress.
Hello i just got my late autism diagnosis on the november 13 of 2024 at 49 years old. I' m also ADD and GAD. Yeah that's alot of letters lol. The Doctor who assessed me told me that I have had an autistic burn out but i'm on my way though it.since my diagnosis, I am mainly relieved, serene. Yes, I wonder what I could have been if I had been diagnosed instead. But I think what matters in the end is who I can become now. I have a lot of work to do on myself to sort out some of my childhood traumas and rebuild myself but I am confident that now I am on the right track. Thank you for your videos that allow me to reflect and understand how I work.
Masking is so confusing for me... I genuinely don't think I'm ever fully unmasked, not until I'm 100% alone. I often have the conversation in my head about what my 'true personality' is (whether this is tied to or separate from my masking ???) which is just an overthinker's nightmare. A brave and amazing video as always, thank you all! 🙂
When i told the physciatrist i would literally run 3 times around the outside of my house when i was about 15, and at the end of the 3rd lap 'id be normal', the penny dropped to her!!!
Ask your GP to refer you for an assessment. Be prepared with some notes about why you think you're autistic and how you fit the diagnostic criteria. If your GP refuses to refer you (many doctors are still very ignorant about adult autism and there is still a huge bias against recognition of autism in females) make an appointment to see a different GP. It may require seeing several different GPs until you get one who understands adult autism enough to refer you but it's worth the effort. Good luck 🙂👍
I guess that being seen as "more autistic" after identification/diagnosis could be, at least in part, from increased awareness of autistic traits and transitioning to labelling those traits as autistic...?
I desperately wanted to be a professional figure skater 😅😅😂😂 I knew everything there was to know about figure skating and different figure skaters etc. I also didn’t start until I was 16 lol 😂 and it was me and a bunch of 7 year olds in the figure skating class, lol 😂 - I felt a bit like the odd one out, and I figured (pun intended) that maybe it wasn’t for me. 😅😁 My interest lasted for years though, but I preferred watching it on the tv, reading about it, etc. Good times! Heh!

I have known I'm autistic for about a month. I'm 64 years old. For the first time my life makes sense. But so much was lost or missed.
You’re not alone. Diagnosed at 57.
Me too. Diagnosed two months ago and then adhd diagnosis about month ago. I’m 56.
Diagnosed today - at 72!

Oh it would be so great to talk to you!!! And share our experiences. I am autistic and realised I am at 28. Your channel helps me so much❤

Another fantastic video! Thank you all so much 💞

I’m 61 and think I’m autistic, how do I get a diagnosis on the NHS? I can’t afford a private assessment.

@@truthmerchant1 Thank you 🙏
So how do one unmask in front of family and friends… I feel a bit shy about it. 🙈
One mental hospital would give me stuff to organize when I was upset. But that was in 1993. So before they were diagnosing many women with autism.

I was told in my ados report im not autistic because I make descriptive gestures, yet this woman makes them too? what's up with that?
Sux when people say 'i dont think your autistic!' 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
It boggles my kind to hear people question others who say they are autistic.
