This reminded me of when i had my first pc. It was pretty good back then but by today's standards its pretty cheeks 😂. that 1660Ti carried me through some tough times
That trick for capturing the shaky hand cam was a big eye opener for me! You could plan out a scene, even a whole movie, if you had a big enough space. Like a nice, big empty garage, or even a whole gymnasium if you can find somewhere that'll let you. Then plan out your scene, put markers on the floor to help you visualize the environment, and then design your environment with the motions already in mind! The big hurdle would just be to make sure that your camera is reacting to space realistically, not clipping through walls, moving down the center of halls, that kind of thing. Once you've got a proper map down, you can do whatever you want with the free space in the distance! Notice a part where you paused to look at something? Put something interesting on a wall, or tear down a wall and build an elaborate scene in the distance! Oh man, I'm actually really pumped to try this with other ideas...
That's exactly what I was thinking, having a huge gymnasium and just walking through it. You could even, if you really wanted to, map out an entire house or a building and put markers on the floors and what not and just do whatever you wanted digitally to that environment. Perhaps 3D scanning could be involved if you want to get a little more ambitious with having an entire building or house being mapped out.
I was wondering about this too... it looks great, but I thought there would be a way to use the shaky cam... and then plan the route WITHIN Blender. ie. record an animation of the camera travelling on a path within your scene, THEN apply the shakiness to it. But I guess if I have to I could do scene by scene 'irl' using, as you say, markers ( I don't have a big area, just my condo, lol )
I never realised how powerful Blender could be until I realise these found footage videoed were made with them. I’ve tried making the backrooms myself to surprising success, but I struggle with the animation part so it mostly just ends up being me creating liminal space renders rather than full on animations.

I’m just saying this video literally teaches me how to use blender with no experience. I literally didn’t know how to use blender and I watched this video and it literally taught me everything about how to use blender. The knowledge from this video didn’t just teach me how to make backrooms but also other things
this video is so good. I think you really sparked my interest in blender, I tried for so long to get into it but I would get bored too fast. With this it was super easy for me to stay engaged and excited to keep going. thanks man, i don't know how you don't have more subs, but keep it up
Thanks, I was impressed by the realism you were able to achieve just by having your audio synced with the camera motion data. I had assumed people were using a 3D game environment which if done well can randomly generate a different map each time, as is the case with games like Diablo.
If you want a shaky camera effect but you don't want to use a phone you can assign random noise to the camera Euler rotations in the Graph editor tab of blender. That's what i use to create my found footage. Nice video though thanks to you i'm now able to wander in the backrooms.
i would really love to make a video of backrooms in this quality!, unfortunately my pc ended up burning, and it was bad too, so i can only really appreciate it
i don't have strong enough computer for blender animations but i watched the full video without skipping. One day I'll use it as soon as i get new computer (if it ever happens). Thank you a lot for such an easy tutorial for the beginners!
You’re welcome! I’m glad it was helpful, and I hope that you can get a new computer soon so you can start animating! And thanks for watching the whole vid, I appreciate that.
You could also try rendering in Eevee. I feel like even a potato could render in there. It might look a bit more unrealistic but hey atleast you can try some stuff! Just saying :)
Hey, I’ve encountered a really annoying problem that I’ve been trying to fix for the last 2 days. For the camera tracking, I followed all the steps and for some reason, everything is really stretched out. All the walls and stuff. I don’t know how I could show but basically, everything is distorted and stretched. The camera is also way to small
I think you probably scaled the camera in a single direction, so it stretched it out on one axis. You might want to re-import your camera, parent it to an empty, and scale it using S to get it bigger- if you click X, Y, or Z after you press S, you’ll just scale the camera in that direction, and you don’t want that. Hopefully that helps!
Thank you so much for this! I was so worried that I was gonna have to manually animate the camera which is something I don’t know how to do as an inexperienced Blender user :’)
Check to see if you’ve got Cycles selected as your render engine, and that you’ve got the rightmost circle icon selected at the top right of the scene, the lights should show up after that!
Fellow Blender user here (been at it for about 15-16 months now), I'd like to offer my advice/constructive criticism. (I'd like to preface that I enjoyed this video and nobody should see this as "hate" or whatever. As a fellow artist, constructive criticism is one of the most useful things to get. Knowing what you did wrong or could do better has helped me greatly, even helping me improve on a weekly basis.) 7:07-7:22 DO NOT do this. This can be intensive on your computer and cause it to slow down a lot. Instead of duplicating and trying to line things up perfectly (and having 100 different objects), just use two array modifiers, one on the X axis and another on the Y axis. Same thing with 8:28. I know you group them and use an array at 10:57, but doing the arrays initially can really speed up the process, and you can just change some of the panels to lights after. Another thing, I have a ceiling like that in my house and the panels actually sit above the metal grid, not below. Same with the lights. From my experience too, the lights should stretch 2 panels, and while some ceilings have square grids, I have seen some with rectangular ceilings. Just personal preference, but I think rectangular adds a bit more asymmetry and makes it look just a little bit more realistic. Another small note, but the base boards could probably be done a bit differently. The harsh rectangle look is easy, but adding a bit of curve in there would push it up a level. A few more things I'd like to add: 1. Add a bit of bump to everything. Yes, the video is low quality (on purpose), but adding a bit of bump will still help add more realism in the long run. Just something simple and subtle on the wallpaper and flooring, and also more noticeable on the lights. 2. Speaking of lights, they probably shouldn't be JUST the emission shader. I'd either mix it with a glass shader, or add in another plane slightly below it with a glass material, and give that some bump. 3. Change the roughness values of stuff. I think the floor is supposed to be carpet in the original?, so it should have a bit more roughness. The walls should also be a bit rougher, but the lights and metal grid of the ceiling should have less roughness, though I suppose the grid could be a bit dull due to age. 4. Compositing. The glare is a really good thing to add, but also a slight bit of chromatic aberration to add more realism. I believe it's under the Lens Distortion node or something like that, just search for Lens and you should find it. Nothing too extreme, something like 0.05 or less. Just enough to get that red and blue edging, but not so much that it looks fake. All together though, this is a pretty solid tutorial, and the final result is still amazing. Glad to see people getting into animation, and using that to create atmospheric pieces that are unsettling. Keep it up man.
Thank you so much! Everything you said is correct, I’m relatively new to Blender myself so it’s great to get some constructive criticism. Appreciate the help!
@@beepbeepimasheep237beepbee3 Yep, you totally can. You may need to activate the Merge option in the modifier, but you can totally use it to make longer sections of straight walls. Super useful for brick walls too.
@@ARDIZsq Can anybody please help me? My problem is, everytime I try to move an object or rotate or scale it, a new Outliner Animation Data Operation, which is inside the object I edited (not on Edit Mode). The only solution to this would be to right click on the animation data and clear the animation data, but everytime I edit it again (again not on Edit Mode), it reappears. Though it doesn't appear when I edit it using text boxes. It's annoying me really hard, and I appreciate any help if you do have any. Sorry If I commented this twice, I just wanted to get more awareness.
@@beepbeepimasheep237beepbee3 I'm sorry, what's the problem? Is it that you're getting keyframes in the animation timeline when you move/rotate/scale an object? If that's the issue, look at the little circle icon for Auto Keyframing on the animation timeline. It's that dot icon to the left of the Play and Jump to Endpoint buttons. If it's blue/active, click to uncheck it. The auto keyframing causes some issues if you leave it on and want to reposition objects or rotate them, I've had that happen before. If that's not the issue, I'd need a bit more information on exactly what's happening to diagnose the problem, but from what it sounds like to me, that's probably the problem. Hope this helps.
This is a nice tutorial but I'm having a an issue. At 9:16 you switch to the rendered view, now when I got to this point and I did that, the wall and base board textures on a few of the walls appear black and shaded, as if they were still rendering. They appear to be in complete darkness even when they should be fully lit. I thought it might be a glitch with the texture I used for the wall, but even the untextured colored base boards are affected as well. The most annoying part is that not every wall is affected, only some of them but I can't seem to figure out what the problem is, but seeing as this problem only appears in the rendered view using the cycles engine I assume it has something to do with that. I'd appreciate any help.

6:00 there's an easier method here, once you go to edit mode on the top left, you can see 3 different options beside it, click the 3rd one or just simply tap 3 on your keyboard, select the top and bottom squares or faces, click "i" then downscale the faces until you get the border, then press x and delete faces
Oh yeah i also did that one
I live in the UK. We call the "carpet stopper". a skirting board. Brilliant video. Thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR 3 WEEKS FOR MY ART PROJECT
You're very welcome, I hope your art project goes well! Let me know if you have any questions about the process!
Do you know any alternatives? I don't have an iPhone
@@bucks1583 "blendartrack" is pretty close to CamTrackAR and is on the Google Play store-- I haven't used it personally, but it looks like it has most of the features you would need for this type of animation.
@@Schnoicky blendartrack uses .json files and I don't know how to import it to blender :(
@@bucks1583 Here's a tutorial I found for blendartrack, importing the files starts at 0:51-- I didn't see mention of .json files, but I might have missed them: ruclips.net/video/TQKdBNlO_bI/видео.html
I watched a full 2 hour tutorial on this and was lost and could not do it but this somehow worked better
man how do you only have 300 subs this is a travisty you deserve hundreds of thousands
Thank you, much appreciated!
Tip for realistic lightning: Go into the lightning shading material, and then for the color put a blackbody node and set it in a spectrum of 3500-4500 Kelvin (4000-3500 is good), If you want a specific model of light search it up and put the kelvin value in it, hope this helps!
@Schnoicky 1:17 They're referred to as Crown/Shoe Mouldings. I agree though, I like to pop them into my environments too. Nice video!
I’m just saying this video literally teaches me how to use blender with no experience. I literally didn’t know how to use blender and I watched this video and it literally taught me everything about how to use blender. The knowledge from this video didn’t just teach me how to make backrooms but also other things
it took me 8 hours to finish this video but my final prject is rendering right now! thank you so much for the nice tutorial, really helpful!
No problem, glad it was helpful!
@@Schnoicky I had no idea blender was this simple, always looked so daunting 😁
did it turn out good, im tempted to try.
Thank you! Now i know how to use blender and make Backrooms Animation.
legendary tutorial. I never knew about that app... my days of manual motion tracking is over!!! :D
thank you so much. +1 sub
quick question. how do you import phone files to blender files?
this video is so good. I think you really sparked my interest in blender, I tried for so long to get into it but I would get bored too fast. With this it was super easy for me to stay engaged and excited to keep going. thanks man, i don't know how you don't have more subs, but keep it up
I appreciate the kind words, and glad the tutorial was helpful!
You can also use a addon by Ian Hubert to make the camera shake! its easy for us guys who want to make it easier
Easier = lack of skills and originality.

I am learning Blender to make a backrooms animation, and this tutorial is my first tutorial. This tutorial is very helpful.
You are so underrated... Thank you so much!
No problem!
Thanks, I was impressed by the realism you were able to achieve just by having your audio synced with the camera motion data. I had assumed people were using a 3D game environment which if done well can randomly generate a different map each time, as is the case with games like Diablo.
You’re underrated, im subscribing because you deserve it 💪
Thanks, I appreciate that!
literally my first day actually using blender and ive already got a few rooms laid out, cant wait to add lighting and add the found footage
You are awesome, thanks for all the help! It helped tremendously!
If you want a shaky camera effect but you don't want to use a phone you can assign random noise to the camera Euler rotations in the Graph editor tab of blender. That's what i use to create my found footage. Nice video though thanks to you i'm now able to wander in the backrooms.
you should use the array modifier it would make it much faster rather then automaticly duplicating 1 by 1
True bro.q
just got blender yesterday, i'm currently watching this tutorial. i'll let you know how it goes. wish me luck! 😎
this is way too good and useful man
Thank you!
this is gonna be perfection for a backrooms animation
i would really love to make a video of backrooms in this quality!, unfortunately my pc ended up burning, and it was bad too, so i can only really appreciate it
yoo that looks so good. now we know kane pixels' secrets :D
i don't have strong enough computer for blender animations but i watched the full video without skipping. One day I'll use it as soon as i get new computer (if it ever happens). Thank you a lot for such an easy tutorial for the beginners!
You’re welcome! I’m glad it was helpful, and I hope that you can get a new computer soon so you can start animating! And thanks for watching the whole vid, I appreciate that.
...at this point, if you got the iPhone, I got the PC. lol
You could also try rendering in Eevee. I feel like even a potato could render in there. It might look a bit more unrealistic but hey atleast you can try some stuff! Just saying :)
@@sicorange3 but i don't have both

Cannot thank you enough!!! This was the best blender tutorial I've seen (at least for me)!
The thing at the bottom of the wall is called a "base board."

you are very underrated. good tutorial, very easy to remake, step by step and just perfect. I wish every tutorial could be like this! Gained a sub :)
You have no idea how much this video helps me. When I forgot something I always come back to this
Hey, I’ve encountered a really annoying problem that I’ve been trying to fix for the last 2 days.
@RandmolyLegend
Congragulations you taught me how to make a wall in Blender you got a subscriber cirtificate
Thank you so much for this! I was so worried that I was gonna have to manually animate the camera which is something I don’t know how to do as an inexperienced Blender user :’)
One year later and it still works, thank you!
Thank you so much! I Have a idea for a backrooms video and i want to be the first to make it, but i had no clue how to make the walls/ get the texture
Glad I could help, and go for it. Original ideas are always better than copied ideas, I need to learn that!
@@Schnoicky For some reason the lights dont light up the scene, any fixs?
Check to see if you’ve got Cycles selected as your render engine, and that you’ve got the rightmost circle icon selected at the top right of the scene, the lights should show up after that!
@@Schnoicky Thanks!, i just finished it and it came out insanely well, Tysm!!!
No problem! Glad to hear it
you can also go to animation and type shift + ~ and you can go to first person but over all cool vid!!!!
Knowing what you did wrong or could do better has helped me greatly, even helping me improve on a weekly basis.)
7:07-7:22 DO NOT do this.
A few more things I'd like to add:
Can you also use Arrays to lengthen walls?
For someone who doesn't even know how to size, This somehow made me get better.
bruh how are u at 345 subs, you deserve a million subs
Thank you!
thanks for this video, was interested in getting blendr to make backroom videos, this is what i was exactly looking for thanks!
Can I use this to make other rooms? (not just that dingy yellow one)
Yes, absolutely. The structure of other rooms can be the exact same, just without the yellow.
It's whatever you can make up and just call it the backrooms level blah blah blah ect ect and the 9 year old army will eat it up.
This is an amazing video! Very underrated, though. Just subbed
Have you checked how the rendering results appear (F12)?
Thanks for the tutorial, im planning to do a series of the backrooms. My plan is to make as many levels as i can.
Go for it, that sounds like a great idea!
The bottom board part of the walls is called a baseboard btw
