I'm having so many reactions to this planner and the idea of productivity. I work as a mental health provider who also provide a lot of supervision and oversee a training program. Productivity is such a messed up idea within my field. It has to do with how many clients we are scheduled to see any given day and those numbers have been set by business people who love the idea of productivity and fitting things into 15 or 30 minute blocks, with more blocks being better. It's a flawed approach when you are treating mental health problems, both because clients usually need a little more time than that and because what a client brings in also has an effect on the provider. My job also comes with a lot of other meetings and what is left for task time is usually 1-2 hours a day. That time is spent reading and signing notes of supervisees (and you can't predict with great accuracy what you get), writing your own notes, and then doing any prep work for upcoming trainings and meetings. Then the rest of the time is spent on tasks and projects. Some days I might get a lot of time to do that work, other days there's neither time nor energy. And then there are crises - which often means losing whatever time you had carved out. This planner makes me wish for a job that would allow me to use the Pomodoro or task-block method. And that makes me irritated, as I love my job and the problem is that I have never seen a planner that realistically is able to address my needs for work. So I use my self-created system where I write on my schedule what needs to get done and have lots of paper to-do lists, with One Note providing a place for meeting notes and work documents I need on a regular basis.

Came here to say all this. Productivity is such a messed up concept.

I think the productivity planner is more based on your own self care and self goals. I don’t think this is suitable for work, maybe school but realistically wouldn’t use for work.

They totally lost me at "prevent distractions" . "Make sure your kids don't exist" is EXACTLY RIGHT. Too late, buddy! They're here and they're hungry!

I have used this planner and I really loved it. I didn't use it everyday but it was so useful for days when I really needed go focus and manage my time. I am a very unfocused person and easily distracted. This planner really helped. I'm not someone who is a productivity=God person but I am someone who works full time, goes to school and has other hobbies. I may not have as much time as I would like to devote to a particular task so making the most of the time I do have is essential

I used this a couple years ago when in a doctoral program. It actually was so much more helpful than I had expected. I didnt find it to be pushing productivity in the sense of “do a million things in a day” - it actually helped me pair down my normal to do lists to really focusing and prioritizing - and also it helped me get a lot better at estimating how much time something will take. It helped me be more intentional and mindful of what I was trying to get done in a day and what was realistic.

I clicked so fast! I just started the 5 minute journal because a friend thoughtfully sent it to me. It's been helping me a lot battle out of some depression.

I just watched your old plan with me video from 2020 about productivity and chronic health about an hour or so ago, so it’s funny watching this shortly after that. This kind of planner would just make me feel like crap since I have both mental health chronic health issues, so I often don’t have the option of carving out a chunk of time to stay focused (or sometimes awake). I’m really glad I saw that other video though, so I have a little bit more of a positive attitude towards my version of productivity. I definitely saved some good quotes from that one (actually I save good quotes from a lot of your videos, bonus if the word fuck is somewhere in it haha). I’m working on conquering my perfectionism, so watching/listening to your videos has been helpful, as you have a great attitude about it all. Just say fuck it and have a good time.
Anyway, a lot of this has to do videos other than this one, but I just wanted to let you know that your channel has been super helpful for me, so watching this video about a planner aimed at “normies” didn’t hurt as much as it would have yesterday. Thank you, you rock

I took this method and use it in my work planner. It has helped my ADHD brain a lot to have a timer and a way to truly track how long it takes me to do things.

“Prevent distractions” remind me of P Bregman’s work - 18 minutes book & ideas- he went into a bit about choosing distractions or what is a distraction to your life and what is your actual life.
The trouble with ‘productivity’ is the logic of it inherently assumes a lot about the future and our circumstances and we can only really join the dots to form a grand picture looking back rather than planning ahead. In a way I prefer how religious god-believers talk about this kind of stuff as they have to submit their own ideas / plans to the idea that god/universe has plans. I prefer a balance.

My job isn't "productive" in any real sense. I have paperwork to do at the end of the day, a couple of weekly tasks and a couple of monthly ones, none of which take more than ten minutes or so. Every thing else is reaction - answering the phone, talking to clients, etc. There's no way to plan for that and no way to call it "productive" because I can't control who calls or what they need.
I actually look at "productivity" and see buzzword. I know it's meaningful for a lot of people, but it really isn't for me.

I'm applying for seminary soon to be a UU chaplain, and I've been worried about managing grad school alongside a full-time job. A lot of the methods you mentioned sound suuuuper helpful to try!

When I used this a few years ago, I was thinking since it didnt have a columns or a weekly layout or times as a traditional planner that I would struggle to use it. I also was skeptical of how different could it be than just writing to do lists on a piece of paper. I still used it in conjunction with a typical planner (for scheduling/planning events) but using this as a way to manage projects I had (with lots of moving parts) was actually really helpful and I did feel like was uaing my time more wisely and felt more satisfaction with using this planner.
every so often i have thought of trying this again in this different chapter of life I am in to see if it would be as helpful as it was when i previously used it.. this video might be that nudge i needed - thanks!

It seems like all of the literature should be provided in a separate booklet. I would not like all of that in front of my planner, I don't know.

Can’t believe people waste their time fillings in this BS journal. The time could have been spent on working towards your goal(s). You just need to be self aware how you spend your time and learn and adapt.
