26:40 He plugs it in and sees 206 volts. Then there is a smooth subtle cut in the video and he goes to testing ohms and diode mode. You may not notice that during the cut he unplugged the TV, so don't try to test ohms or diode mode with the TV plugged in!!! It's hard to notice, but look at the power cord at 26:40 when he plugs it in, then look at 27:00, the power cord is not there but he doesn't mention that he unplugged it.

Good day Marc. I own a Plasma 3D Samsung 60" PS60F5500 and it worked great since February 2014 - although it did not do very many hours as this room is used mainly for XBOX games when the grand children visit on a weekend maybe twice a month. Unfortunately it has now died, and only double flash the standby light in sets of five times. I disconnected the Y-sustain power cable and the TV then powers up and makes bleep sounds when I toggle its switch up and down, but no display. The Y-Sus board part number is ZB 958B A3 391 5XH - BA3. I tested the Mosfets and found two (marked 30J127 - and below 3:K) that are shorted - Q5002 and Q5003. I removed the cap C5172 to gain access to removing them. The Cap tests ok. Apart from this there are 4 big components on the largest solder patches in a group in the center of the board close to these two mosfets, and it would seem that they might also be shorted, although I did not remove them to test - might need a hotter soldering iron for this. The two buffer boards have no visible burn or dry solder indications that I can see. I will really appreciate your help in getting this resolved, as it would be the end of my really stunning Planet Earth, Life and other nature, documentaries and more titles of my 3D collection. Sincerely appreciate all the way from Pretoria, South Afrika, Dawid Sadie (dawid.sadie@gmail.com).

In the last three months, I have repaired Marrantz, Onkyo, Techniques, Pioneer, Denon, Yamaha, BSR and so many others that I can't remember. 9:32 and 35:53 (very helpful) "Has sound, no priming and stays black" That describes the exact problem with my LG 60PK550-UD. I found 3 broken/separated "lugs" (lugs for the screws that mount the 2 boards together) on the upper buffer board and the Y-board had multiple bad solder joints. I managed to solder the lugs back onto the upper buffer board and re-soldered the bad Y-board. Re-installed both boards but, "wah-wah" no worky. (It was worth a shot). Regardless, I'm now convinced I still have a bad Y-board and/or buffer board(s) after re-watching your video. The TV would never "shut-down" completely only the picture went out. Prior to this "total blacked-out screen" the input menu would always flicker/strobe (only when changing input sources, cable to HDMI etc) It did that for the past 2 years and I had my fingers crossed ...until now. Last thing is the green indicator flashes "long, short, long, short". I've had this puppy since it was new and I'm determined to keep it going.
I would also like the heat from it here in "Champaign ILL" where it's 21F degrees currently LOL

Update: 60PK550 without picture, with sound:
I replaced the upper and lower Y-Buffers and YSUS and all is good again. Yay!
I measured the temp on the new Y-buffers and they're 122F to 128F and the YSUS was 82F to 134F at it's hottest point (after being on 5 hours) No wonder these fail after 8 hours a day for 12 years (LOL)
I still have a blinking green light on the back but now it's a different sequence Long Long Short Short (it was long short long short) I never could find any info on the blink patterns.

For a pro that may be true, but for a DIYer, who is looking at saving an older 60" TV that is worth $300, it's just baaaarely worth investing $90, plus that troubleshooting time, or, actually not really worth it. But if you can, at the expense of some time and soldering, salvage a TV worth $300 for $10 or $20 worth of caps and transistors, then it is closer to worth it.

I had the LG plasma tv (50PQ30) stored in the basement for years with very little usage prior to storing it. I finally dragged it up to replace the same model tv which had an annoying issue of the remote not working. When I plugged it in, there was no light by the power on button. Eventually, the red light was showing up (maybe about 20 to 30 minutes later) but it was dim. It took some time before it came up to the normal brightness level. When I tried turning on the tv, the light would go from red to blue. The blue light would just blink nonstop and it went on for quite a bit (similarly about 20 to 30 mins) before the blue light finally became solid and the tv finally powered on. Subsequently, the tv worked fine with the blue light blinking minimally before the tv finally turned on. Over the course of about 6 months, I would notice the blue light blinking gradually taking longer before the tv would finally power up. Then one day, the blue light kept blinking but this time, it would not power up. Can someone suggest what the issue might be? Thanks!

When connecting to the power it clicks one time and then as you described in beginning of this video in the dark room I see some snow picture that last about 3 seconds , and then tv is dead , no led lights ( used to be Vizio logo white on standby and orange on power on) . Is problem relate to Y sustain board or main board? All power supply voltage is correct. I replaced the main board bought from eBay but didn't solve the problem although the is no confirmation that the part from eBay is working or bad.

@BigDog8882 - I just got done replacing a fuse and some mosfets on the Z-sus board of an LG 60PV250. Typical shorting to ground crap on the Z board. The fuse now has continuity on the multimeter, but the mosfets still seem to be shorting to ground - even though they are brand new. I have had to repair these before, by taking off the old mosfets, and soldering on new mosfets. So, I know it's fixable. I really wanna save this badbody from the junk heap. Do you repair boards?

  • @johnhugo886

Great tutorial. My panasonic TC-P50VT25 had originally a no power problem. I put in a power board and that fixed power problem but it developed a no picture problem a month later. The symptoms are the same as you mentioned for possible main board. Powers up -no picture but you can see the screen lit up with lights off. no sound either. I could not find exact main board anywhere but did find a TC-P50vt20 board. They are basically the same set and even share same service manual but VT 25 has a io connector for servicing that the vt20 does not. The connections from main board to the other board are the same. Unfortunately same symptoms after replacement. The board was bought off ebay but from a tv shop so I assumed it was good. Is it possible main boards are incompatible or are there other possibilities for this type of failure? Also if it is main board still is there any way to repair main boards on these since none seem to be for sale?

I was thinking maybe the capacitors but they look fine to me. The x-board (top right) makes a digital shuddering noise like a disc in a drive when trying to power on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need a multimeter to chech the Vs line for voltage or a short on both of the Substain boards and buffers boards.

    Question:
    Panasonic TH-50PZ80E
It's not turning on. After blinking green, it goes to a blinking red light. It still 'clicks' nicely as it's always been doing, so it seems very healthy, and there's never been any issue with the image. It just doesn't turn on. For a while, it helped to hold a remote button pressed to help it 'wake'. But it worked less and less. As if it gradually struggled to be turned on.
Any ideas on this is greatly appreciated.
(A local tv rep. guy diagnosed it as being 'something' with the main board.)
But he didn't say what. I think he wasn't able to diagnose it as it is many small components.

My then 2011 top of the range LG Plasma TV finally failed yesterday (nearly 13 years daily operation). I want to try to fix it. Here are the symptoms: about four days ago the TV just switched itself off. When I turned it on there was no screen. I tried to get it going but I could not. The red light near the switch would turn to blue and the noise of switching on was still there (and the noise of switching off). Then I switched the TV from the socket (from the plug) and waited say one hour. Then it would work but after a while switch itself off. Yesterday it worked all day and then suddenly at night it switched itself off. No effort at getting it to go back on gave results. I remember we switched it off for an hour from the socket (from the plug on the wall) and then it came back but only for 5 minutes and switched itself off. So we played some card games to pass the time last night. This morning at 7 am I went down and switched the plug and then it went on and I was watching TV as normal. Then after 5 minutes or so it cut out again and I could not bring it back. What do you think is the problem?

Maybe the author of this video would care to comment about what is the most likely problem we are both experiencing so we could open the unit, as he has done, and change something or check for the fault. It stands to reason that it is some problem with either a switch that fails or overheats or some unit that shorts. It would be good to have his advice so we can fix the units and re-use them in another bedroom or sell them. I am writing from the UK.

The picture of the LG is too nice to end up in a dumpster...when the TV works that is. I took a look at all the boards and didn't notice anything striking. Although I'm no expert like this TV genuis on video. From watching this video I learned the name of the different boards (power supply board, y-sus board, y-buffer, z-board, main board, etc). Which, I'm thinking I might take a gamble and buy 1 replacement board and see what happens (a 1/5 chance I pick the correct replacement board lol).

29:00 touching ICs is not recommended. A malfunctioning IC can give you a burn blister instantly, that has happened to me. Some other method of checking for over heating would be better. A non-contact thermometer that is so popular in COVID times comes to mind.
    It's "resistance," not "restistance." 30:49.

Hey BigDog! Happy to venmo for your advice. On my samsung plasma power goes to X and then loops out to Y. The chart on the X & Y boards says both VS' should be 205v. I'm getting 106v on both at X and at Y. TV is turned on, but not primed up. Stand by light works, I see other boards with LED's flashing. Is the main power board simply not giving the full voltage to the X board? Should I spend the money and replace the main power board? Thanks! -Andy PN60E550D1F

    • @bigdog8882
      @bigdog8882  6 месяцев назад

You would have to start by unplugging the x and Y boards one at a time; making sure to plug the previous connector back in before You unplug the next board. Then check the voltages again after you unplug each board, one at a time. If Vs goes back up to 205vdc; then just replace the board that was pulling the voltage down. If nothings pulling it down; then look for Bad Capacitors on Power Supply boards or try just replacing the PS. board.🙏

Aha, this is the type of LG I have. Except mine is larger. It is a plasma TV not and LED.
I use it as a monitor for a desktop computer. Couple of months ago it started turning on and off, blinking away. But it is not a full time thing. Often it works okay.
I noticed the tv responds rather strangely to the remote control.
Pressing the power button, instead of turning off the tv, it turns off the video while the audio is still there.
Pressing the power on, brings the picture back with it turning off and on blinking.
It hasn't done this before. Before the tv would just turn off when I pressed the remote control power button and pressing the power again would turn the tv on.
Aside from that, it is stll working for the most part.. So I don't know... I guess I will just have to wait until it gives out... or something.
