  • Met Gala: Baffling Outfits and Big Money | Vantage with Palki Sharma
    The Met Gala is one of the most elite fashion events of the year. The Gala was held in New York this week and about 400 guests were in attendance. But eventually, the Gala turned into a showcase of baffling outfits. It saw strange outfits made of sand and flowers, which fuelled memes and viral moments. But the Met Gala is less about fashion and more about money. It is a money-making machine in fashion. This year's event raised about $26 million, which is more than double of what the event raised a decade ago. And now, the Met Gala is being criticised for being disconnected from the real world. Palki Sharma brings you the report.

    This is completely ridiculous. The MET Gala is held to raise funds for MET's costume exhibit. Its a fashion event and if you dont like the clothes, you can withhold indulging in conversation regarding the event. It is a FUNDRAISER so making money is literally its purpose. And the money is contributed towards fashion.....it goes towards fashion preservation and restoration. While a lot of the outfits were not creative, that doesn't take away from the ones that were. Fashion is art and is not always meant to be practical. And while you may criticise the outfits, there are a lot of people who get employed to work on that piece of clothing. Take Alia Bhatt's saree for example. It took 1905 hours to create and must have employed many skilled karigars. Above all, like sports, the MET is a big event for all those who take interest in fashion. Fashion is a hobby and having a journalism piece on it is just honestly ridiculous.

    And racism was at it's peak. The way these left side photographers beginning of the stairs snubbed Sabyasachi Mukherjee, they literally were laughing at him, discussing how they don't even know him. And quickly shouted by saying THANK YOU, it means you may go now so that they can capture Lea Michele who was just next to Sabyasachi. It shows how they treats every brown skin people. It was visible. If you see their live arrivals you will definitely get this. It's not only with Sabyasachi but they did the same with other brown people too. And you know what Just lack of awareness brought us to these. Forget about White Celebrities(which are rational) but Indian goes gaga over white people even roaming like a homeless in indian street. But the fact is white american only cares about either white or black(after decades of protest). And it needless to mention how much racial attack we indian are facing on our everyday life almost everypart of the so called developed countries including such a widely popular Canada! Let us take this matter seriously and we must act like Black community, today they are being heard because of their courageous nature and strong bonding with each other.

Yes, I am talking about fashion! This event is one of the biggest nights in the fashion world, where creativity blooms and all the boundaries are shattered. It gives hope to young designers, stylist, fashion enthusiasts and fashion commentators to dream and get inspired. Everybody knows what is happening in the outside world, but this doesn't give anyone any right to target an event or a group of people. I guess the UN should be questioned, they should be targeted and asked to what they have done and why is that institution still standing on the corpse of the dead!

    Fashion is ART…you don’t have to like it, but shall RESPECT IT!

    • @TheWorldofPatrick
      @TheWorldofPatrick 21 день назад +5

      I am not offended by your response, however I do think it’s a bold take. You're basically saying fashion shouldn't exist unless it's a mobility aid for supermodels. Maybe we should all just wear overalls and sensible shoes from now on? Come on! 🤣
      Look, I get it, comfort is key. But fashion is about pushing boundaries, sparking conversation, and yes, sometimes even being a little outrageous. It's like a giant, glamorous museum exhibit you can walk through not everyone will love every piece, but that's the point!
      Besides, who decides what's "beautiful" anyway? One person's ball gown is another's bedazzled torture device. Isn't that the beauty (or shall we say, the subjectivity) of art?
      And as for the "real world inspiration," let's be real. Most people wouldn't dare wear a head-to-toe hot dog costume to the grocery store (unless they're going for a Halloween hot dog costume award, which, hey, more power to them!). The Met Gala, however, is more about fantasy and celebrating fashion as an art form, NOT a how-to guide for everyday wear.
      Relax, let people have their avant-garde moments. Fashion can be fun, even if it involves a little temporary blindness or the inability to walk normally. Besides, isn't that what assistants are for? 🤣
      P.S. Thanks for reminding me why I love watching the news - for the unbiased reporting, of course! 😉

    • @TheWorldofPatrick
      @TheWorldofPatrick 20 дней назад +4

      @@kritikarathi808 Whoa there, let's not get too ruffled about feathers and nipple stickers! 🤣 Art can definitely be subjective, but that doesn't mean it's all a rich-people playground.
      Think about it - from cave paintings to protest music, art has always been a way to push boundaries and make a statement. Just like those incredibly detailed Mughal garments - totally impractical for everyday wear, but a stunning representation of wealth and artistry at the time.
      The Met Gala is kind of the same. It's a chance for designers to be outrageous, spark conversations, and maybe even get their work featured in a news report... unbiased or not 😂
      Now, I hear you on practicality. Clothes should definitely, well, clothe you. But art can be more than just function. Yes, having your vision obstructed due the statement piece is a form of art. Look up John Goodman, he did a runway look with full headwear that covered the models eyes. Fashion is art. I wouldn’t be the first or the last to wear that but just bc I don’t like doesn’t mean it’s not art. That is the overarching point here! Art can make us think, feel, and question things, even if the reporter seems to have a case of the side-eye.
      Maybe the next Met Gala theme can be 'Truth in Fashion,' where designers create pieces that challenge beauty standards and promote inclusivity. That would be a conversation starter, and maybe a reporter or two would take positive notice!
      In the end, we SHOULD be able to appreciate different forms of art, even if they're not to our taste.
      Peace out!

    Two causes come to mind for the money making event: School meal programmes for children in the United States who are either too nervous to eat before arriving at school, and/or those who can't afford regular healthy meals. And Gaza aid.

    you’re good at politics and international affairs, stick to that😂 fashion’s clearly not your cup of tea, esp judging the way you dress. Also, met gala looks aren’t supposed to be cute and pretty-looking; they are MEANT to be extravagant, in your face, inspired by art. These pieces aren’t supposed to be practical at all! It’s almost like contemporary art, not everyone can understand it. Ever seen someone from the fashion world poke their nose into your field? No right? You should do the same

    Common...! Expected deeper from Palki n First Post. Better to keep shut than pouring out the ignorance in public and take a few fashion classes. Definitely would help. Then would understand why Aliya could convince the masses here, but not the fashion scholars any place. It's art. Not utility. M&S is there for utility.

    jokes apart, the "outfits" tells a story, the art behind it. One must have the knowledge before commenting. for example the "wet shirt" reminds of the late 1800 french women who used to wet their clothes to show off their bodies post french revolution as a sign of their freedom. Because of the wet clothes, the french women fell sick and thus it was termed as "the muslin disease". muslin refering to the clothes. Likewise a lot of the outfits tells you a story, the history behind it, a very meaningful indeed. Preserving the art and culture is ig imp
