IMHO: Hughie is actually the true main hero of the show, cause when i watch hughie's journey, reminds me journey from joseph campbell hero's journey. And also hughie's last name is campbell same with joseph campbell

Hughie is deliberately chosen to keep the average loser engaged in the show! It is a marketing strategy to create a protagonist catered towards the lowest common denominator!
A guy like hughie in real life wouldn’t stand a chance with a girl like star light! Just go look at those cast and you’ll find who are they dating in real life!
