- LEGO revealed the 2022 LEGO Speed Champions lineup a few days ago and I shared all the official photos with you, but that's not all! I had an exclusive opportunity last year during the LEGO Fan Media Days to interview Chris Stamp, the design lead of the Speed Champions theme. He showed me all the prototypes of the 2022 sets back then, so here you can enjoy all their important details and design secrets from the most authentic source!

I really appreciated this interview because it really explained the thinking that was going into certain elements. I like many was disappointed with the blue printing on the wheels. But he did an amazing job explaining the thought process. I really wish there were more discussions like this about design choices.
I love how he shows the 6 wides for comparisons. It really shows how 8 wides have made this line so much better.
Now, with the speed champions line being 8 studs wide, I'd actually get them as they are, as you said, much better and pack more details and the proportions look so much better meaning you can get them for display and they won't look like straight up toys.
Really it did! i been a speed champ fan since the first sets but my only first set was the chevy cam nascar. It looked really nixe but a few years later i got the jesko and i can help but fall in love with it so much!
I want them to go to 10
@@TinyBearTim yeah but than they fall out of minifig scale a little bit which might not be the best
@@nobaski3284 i have it too, the nascar one i mean
8-stud-wide builds are the BEST. I never cared about Speed Champions until last year and now I feel like I have to hold myself back from buying them all!
Just get them, they're an awesome value!
I'm traditionally a Star Wars LEGO purist when it comes to purchasing LEGO sets, but LEGO Speed Champions have pulled me in and I'm not holding back! Amazing builds and sets.
This guy is the best, love his honesty about stickers, piece usage and some of the manufacturers (the 5 year wait for the project one for example)
This shows that a lot of ideas and building techniques are important when building a Lego set.
not the biggest merc fan, but 100% getting that pack for sure. so happy lego is making another f1 car, and amazing to see the side by side from the one from the garage build! hope they make more f1 cars in the future, looks like a fun build!
They should have done a duo f1, a Mercedes and a Red Bull, with Lewis and Max detailed figures.
Joyful to see a person talking about his work with such a passion. Speed champion has no less crazy engineering solutions than it's big brothers, and this time there seems even more of them. Every time I got a model in my hands, I start make those vroom-vroom sounds. I'm 34.
What I want is a 1:8 Valkyrie. It would be a very interesting build with all the air tunnels and ducts.
Any scale that works to get the look right would be amazing if it was done as a creator expert set. I love how the real car from certain angles looks like there’s hardly any bodywork there when you’re staring down all the ducts.
Either that or a 1:8 project one
@@h24anderant64 or 1:8 LMPH car
Lego needs to do more interviews like this
I love speed champion. I hope we are gonna have a series for f1 only, with real drivers like the old Barichello, Raikkonen and Schumachaer.
I just builded Kimi’s championship car. Parts i ordered from bricklink and stickers from England. The total cost, including taxes and transportation (4 shops), was almost 90€.
That hurt but now i have what i wanted so bad!
@@fleabender worth it lol
One good thing I noticed is that the steering wheel is perfectly aligned with the driver spot in the Evija, Vantage GT3 and Valkyrie AMR PRO (Idk about the Project ONE though, I couldn't see properly)
Just bought the One, and it is aligned
There’s also a screen for the passenger and a carbon center console
Without a doubt the best speed champions lineup to date
I LOVE that Chris came here to show off the designs and to say that they listened to complaints about the last lineup. Speed Champions has become my favorite theme since they went to 8 wide, and I really enjoy seeing the evolution and hearing some of the thinking behind what they're doing. I'm hoping for a Morgan Three Wheeler in a future release...it would be amazing to see in Lego.
I like the way he handled the interview, he seemed to be very honest, knowledgeable in both the LEGO stuff and a Racing enthusiast in general, involved within the community and actually cared for the theme. If they're doing concepts i want to see the Lamborghini Asterion or Sian and more polybags please.
It's crazy how much decoration they put on that angular cockpit piece used as the Evija's read windscreen.
Yet its still painfully inaccurate (an unfortunate technical limitation of the windscreen piece they used)
I'm not a car guy, just appreciate a nice looking car. Despite that, speed champions is becoming one of my favorite themes. They're always getting creative with how they build the cars to get all the details as close as possible. I love building them just to see what type of techniques they used to build it, usually very out of the box.
Wow this might be my favorite SC wave so far. I think my favorite is the Mercedes double pack. I love F1. Loving the Countach too.
Speed champion sets are becoming true lego savants with parts usage. May even be the best of any other theme at achieving small details with unique parts usage.
I would love to see a Camaro or a Mustang (both preferably vintage). Or a Lykan HyperSport would be amazing as well.
Also, awesome interview, presenter was very good!!
Pls do the countach first. I will definitely get one myself. The M125 and the Astons are cool as well. I actually love most of them, only the project one i'm not sure about.
I love how proud he is of all these models!
Great insiders look into the thought process behind these new designs. It's phenomenal how much more detailed/intricate the theme has gotten since the first wave of the SC theme. Really like that Lego is constantly trying to improve on the designs based on feedback. Stickered lights has always been an issue so great to finally see them either brick built or printed this year around. Hard to say which care I'm most excited to reviewed first as they all look amazing to build display, but think I'll go with either the Countach or Mercedes 2 pack.
Definitely more excited for excited for the Mercedes pack with Lewis’ w12! I mainly collect Star Wars legos with a couple of speed champions sets here and there, but I’ll 100% be buying this whole collection in March!
This was so cool! Thanks so much for sharing this interview with us
I really can’t wait for Lamboghini Countach and Mercedes F1 review. So excited can’t even close my eyes 👀 so freaking excited 😝
Man, speed champions just keep getting better. I am just loving these 8 wide cars and the accuracy that they have. I love the new Lamborghini but I think the Aston Martin Valkyrie is my favorite. Can’t wait for these to hit the shelves!
I love that you get Stamp on here! It's great hearing how special certain cars are to him and hearing all of the secrets definitely sparks more of a want for the models. I was exclusively in Lego Star Wars and (as a car guy) I wanted to get into cars and these videos helped in choosing the next series. Thanks!
Great interview, such a great wave for 2022, love the new parts devellopment that this theme brings, not only is it great for the car designs but also very practical for MOC builders. Those "wedged slopes" will have so many uses and not to mention all the options a 1x5 plates offer.
Much excited for March!
I NEED that Countach. Looks so awesome. Can't wait!
Thanks for this bro 🙏🏼🤗...can't wait for the reviews now 👍🏼 and the new upcoming technic sets as well ☺️
Great interview, and content!! With the detail and upgrade from previous years want them all. Most looking forward to the Lambo! :)
The progress and improvement lego has made across the board in a few short years is incredible
Hope to see some eastereggs like the brick-built swedish flag in the Jesko where the engine usually is
Maybe we could have an engine where the engine should be.
@@adrianbarbour5098 right, they did it with the Ford GT and Corvette C8.R so they should do it again.
The excitement that was expressed by him was so awesome. Lego is awesome.
Thanks for sharing this!
I LOVE THE WORK YOU DO!!! KEEP IT UP!!!
This is a great video thank you! Chris Stamp's excitement for the Countach is clear and I shared his excitement. It's an amazing set with some outrageous building techniques. Built it right hand drive of course.
WoW! Thanks!
Till the end waited a few words about ''can we expect more new sets this year?'' )
Oooff, it's cool that they introduced new pieces to avoid segmented stickers like in the Toyota, but immediately afterwards he presented the Mercedes with 3 segmented stickers for each of the 2 side windows.
Maybe I'll buy these new elements, painted to yellow, and buy stickers.
That's the worst part, the new elements that are made for the headlights don't need printing any more and could have stickers applied for the headlights.
I'd rather have had the side windows printed so that they dont have massive gaps in them.
They all look amazing
Thanks for the interview Balasz, really cool. For me the best 8w line so far. Really like them. Great selection of cars, new pieces and less stickers. Hopefully they keep on raising the bar next year and of course hopefully even less sticker than this year 😁
That interview was fantastic to see, thank you!
Being a Star Wars Lego fan. I wish Star Wars builders were as awesome as this guy. Wish we had transparent builders that explained building techniques and minifigures.
This wave is illuminating. I probably will buy all of them full price on day one. Love the way Chris talked about sticker headlights ; )
I liked this Guy.
Proud of His work, and happy where He is in life. Good for Him, superb friendly but knowledgable "presentation"/talking.
It was nice to see, thanks!
Wow 🤩 nice exclusive content! Good to know insights straight from the design lead at LEGO. It’s nice to be LRFM! Does it change any for you? Or are you just more excited early than all of us? 😄
I spent the whole interview with the biggest smile on my face, it was awesome :)
I love all what Chris showed in that spectacular interview ❤
Ok now I understand why they did the wet tyres. Thank for another amazing video👍
My absolute favorite (has been for 40 years) is the Countach, but the one i'm looking forward to build the most is the Valkyrie because of the very different chassis build.
This was going to be the first year I considered not buying the new speed champions line, because I’ve recently bought and built so many huge Lego sets (brick built and Technic), that I’m running out of display space. Now I need to buy the entire 2022 series. Watching the interview was the final deciding factor for me! Great content as always.
I’m waiting for the mercedes and lotus review the most! They look so cool!
This was good. They are all my favorite lol. This toyline is a dream come true for real.
Simply Awesome.
I can’t wait for these
I would love to see more presentations of the Lego products like this!
Same bro
Absolutely getting the Countach
At first, I thought maybe I would only get the Countach and Lotus, but after seeing this interview, with his passion and explanation, now I want all of them!
Would love to see some of the modern LMP cars (or DPi) in the 2023 lineup, would be amazing to see how Lego handles that design!
2022 SCs are gonna be a home run...can't wait to add these to my stash.
The cars I’d LOVE to see in Speed Champions are the Bugatti Bolide, a redesign of the Le Mans GT40, a Subaru WRX STI, Ford Mustang Boss 302 vs Chevy Camaro, Hennessy VelociRaptor, and the Hoonicorn
It’s crazy. This year I actually want them all.
Very interesting video, thanks! It is always great to get some insight from the designers. Now this waves seems far more attractive. However it is funny to see him highlight each brick-built headlight and rear window. Hopefully the Technic Designer will watch this video, too.
I had never paid much attention to Speed Champions, but after watching this video and seeing all the details that goes into it, I am tempted to give this lineup a try!
I enjoy a variety of themes, but since they switched to the 8 stud width Speed Champs has become my favorite line by far.
Amazing models for their size. I hope, we get the Cannonball-Run version of Countach in 1:8 scale some day (or a standard LP500 S that can be modified accordingly)
Not buying unless it has a front wing and the 12 exhaust tips
That valkerie looks extremely sweet and I'm definitely gonna want to get that and the Diablo set very very cool
Sadly one of the last interesting lego themes, just good looking cars with really cool parts and building techniques without the prizes going mental.
No THIS is proper content!
That F1 car is insanely good. I also wish they'd produce slick tyres (since the full wets don't really get that much use in F1) and also made it a Ferrari but hey, the foundation is there :D
Alright, now I already CANNOT wait for 2023 sets!!
I really love the Lamborghini Countach and the Aston Martin pack! I think that it’s the first packs i will buy. Really enjoy the video, thanks.
I really love this insight and love how the designer loves what he's doing!!
Cars I would love to see:
McLaren F1
Mazda Furai and gt vision concept
Porsche 994
2022 Mazda 3 hatchback
Lamborghini Diablo and Reventon
R34 and the new Z
I love another year with polybag speed champions. That's so cool. I can wait to start building these.
Great Content
Listening to him explain how they are working to better Lego speed champions as a more accurate build it really makes me appreciate Lego more.
Very interesting!! I love the f1 design! Hoping maybe for new type of Tyre!!
Really looking forward to these although I still need to collect the 21 models
All the cars are awesome this year. I will definitely buy all 5 sets on release day since I have every 8 studs wide cars. I'm happy to see new brands as Aston Martin, Lotus and (Mercedes in 8 wide) glad to see a new color for a car although it's not my favorite color but its something new.
The interview was cool but i can't wait for the next year's new cars . Mabey we can get a Bentley collab :)
Btw the interview made me 100% sure to buy the Lamborghini Countach .
I want the Mercedes and the Lamborghini set. They are my favs of the 2022 Lego Speed Champions sets.
The hardest one for me to find will be that polybag, usually rare in my area of Canada. Love the new Pirelli rain tiyres for the W12
Can't wait to get my hands on that Ferrari!
great videos raceing brick!
you can also check out my channel i just started!
bro I really want that mini Valkyrie, its soooooo cool
Very interesting video and crazy inshights from the Design Team. As a comment for this, related to brick built headlights vs. sticker ones: we all absolutely love brick built ones, but as the car headlights industry involves to very capable LEDs which just do not need the same big space on the headlight glass, so its just becoming more and more just about design, but also a good source of cost reduction which a lot of OEMs do in the automotive industry, especially that these headlights become very expensive with all the tech. So fair enough to LEGO for some cars its really a challenge to brick build them and its becoming harder and harder on some of the cars.
All this just makes me hope they go back and remake some of their earlier models
Especially the 917 and the gt40
Wow, wish we have something like this for star wars
I want it all!!!
Great cool videoa
I'd love for them to revisit previous releases in the 8 stud scale, the 512 M looks so much better than the 917, but the 917 is my favorite historic race car by far.
Printed headlights, sure it's nice...
But when will LEGO start making transparent curved slopes ?
Lots of fan service in this line. Can't wait to see the 007 and f&f sets.
That Mercedes F1 looks amazing!
For 2023 a 8 wide r8 would be fantastic such an amazing car
i can't wait to get my hands on the mercedes ones!
Ordered the Mercedes and Aston Martin sets from a Canadian based retailer that currently has them in stock. very excited to build them. The Mercedes one will be my first F1 Car, as I never got any of the previous Speed Champions F1 sets.
I really enjoy the biggest reveal of them all - Valkyrie polybag!
After that I wanna all 2022 collection😍🤩
That moment when Valkiria in hands looks fantastic between box photo!😀😃
Also Eviia looking so sexy😏
I'd love to see that countach in those colors as a 1:8 Technics set.
I really, really, really want a Lamborghini Aventador more than anything. Maybe a newer one or a two pack with the Aventador LP 700-4 and Gallardo. Without the race vinyls and stuff. That would be the dream.
