The use of the Agents pistols piece in this build (as part of the exhaust) was absolutely just so that they could include an extra in the parts for a gun on the sly.
I think I’d cut out the detail parts of those big stickers and just use that. Maybe also cut some stripes from the leftovers to place around the windshield and windows?
Yeah I watched the stream and that was also my idea. And the set is cheap enough compared to what I usually get that it wouldn't be a disaster if I somehow mess it up. And if all else fails, I can just remove the stickers again.
The Speed Champions designers all deserve commendations. The shift to 8 wide was a masterstroke! Bring on the Lancia to partner my Audi, and an F40 redux, PLEEEEEEEAAAASe, LEGO!!!
When they first announced the shift to 8 wide, I was really bummed, but it's really been such a good idea. The cars look really great and you can fit 2 people in them, it was really such a great choice
@@tylergamerphung right now they manufacture a single model and it's only sold in Italy, but there are plans by its new parent company to bring it back to what it used to be known for
It should be so easy to match the sticker and pad printing colour to the plastic. It would take a little experimentation for 1hr or so, but then it could be perfect going forward. There’s really no excuse for it being as bad as it has been on some sets recently
They really should have just made it a transparent sticker. They've done that countless times before so I'm not sure why they didn't this time. I understand it would be a giant rectangular sticker with only a little door decal on it, but it would have looked sooo much better. No issues with trying to match the sticker grey with the grey bricks
Exacto knife cut those stickers get the vent and the door handle and the DB5 logo.. just trim the crappy mismatched grey away and it would look perfect.
You're right - that part does look a little like a Walther PPK. I love the curves on this set. It would have been nice to get stickers for the sidebars on the new window piece.
I'd be inclined to take a scalpel to those stickers, and cut them as close as possible while still on the sheet. It'll make it more difficult to apply them to the model, but worth it, I think.
8:50 that's exactlywhat i had planned to do even before building the set, then i got to the end and noticed the set came with the spare "gun" piece. Let's just say i was pleasantly surprised.
I mostly bought this set to have a Daniel Craig James Bond minifigure. I thought the car looked rather boring from stock photos. But the build was surprisingly complex and satisfying, and the car just looks so slick with the side stickers removed. Also quite happy with the extra nozzle piece that can double as a gun. The most interesting part to me though is how the build pretty much only uses shades of gray, black, and tan, even on the inside where there are usually more wild colors
I bought the set because it looked like a nice detailed yet simple enough looking car to put on the road in my city. I was pleasantly surprised when I built it, it's a nice build, lots of interesting connections. I do like the figure, but i prefer the car
The amount of new parts for this set is quite a suprise, but I think it really makes this car so fantastically well done. This LEGO car is probably the most accurate to real life ever, I think.
So with all the grey tones you just have to imagine it's an old car that's had repairs where the paint didn't match or faded different over time. Very disappointing for Lego to be having this issue more and more, can't their graphic designers just take a brick to a local paint shop and use one of those colour match machines?? Thank-you for the review Jang :)
I'm so glad Lego is making TV/movie cars as a specific line. I've been collecting them like the Mystery Machine, Delorean, Ecto 1, the different Batmobiles, etc but it's great that they're going to be making more that aren't only coming from Lego Ideas or if they make it a whole theme for the IP
This could be my favourite set of the year. Daniel Craig Bond is one of my favourite fictional characters if all time and the DB5 is one of my favourite cars of all time, and they pulled it off so well here
I want to say for the record that I bought this set on August 1st when it came out in the Euro Zone for €19.99. It seemed to be that price across the board and even on the Lego website I recall seeing that price. Maybe the German market in particular is more expensive than the rest of Europe, but I certainly paid the regular 20 Euro price for either new car this time around. I expect this will change for the 2023 cars but I just wanted to point out that at least for me, at least this time, the price was not 25€.
hello from France, I bought it 25eu but a friend who is not into Lego came across a 15eu price for the set, certainly a price error in that supermarket.
I got 2 of these . I like how you actually do get a gun and they just don't market it lol. It uses a piece for the rear Exhaust underneath which is a pistol and it gives you a spare. Very sneaky move by Lego lol. I would have preferred the extra mini figure or even just one for Connery who used the car first. An Easter Egg of a Moore figure to represent the spoof character he played in Canon Ball Run would have been awesome too. Lego just doesn't seem to have much imagination anymore. At least the car build for it's size is really well done though.
Have to agree on all points - great looking build for a great price - but really hate the stickers... I think i'll get the stickered parts custom printed.
Man this set looks so good. AND I can get a James Bond minifigure for my collection?! AND they included the stickers to approximate the rotating number plate!? That's just rad! Such a shame about the stickers. Usually that sort of thing doesn't bother me but in this case those side stickers look kinda bad. I'm tempted to try cutting the stickers down so I can put just the details on without the massive panel of miss-matched grey.
Sold me on this one. I've been having a blast building again, and making little time-lapse videos for my channel! If you enjoy building it, I'll enjoy building it. As an old-head, it really takes me back to my youth, and why I fell in love with LEGO all those years ago! Love your videos Jang!
Absolutely love the fact that they built the muffler in a way to sneak an actual gun piece into the set. I was actually grinning when I got the that part because Bond was gonna have his pistol after all. Those geniuses
Haha. Grey on mine is much closer match between parts and stickers, but on the other hand I had less luck with the grill parts and have a very noticeable gap between the two prints.
This is a beautiful set. I would love for Speed Champions to do more classic cars like this. Wow, thanks for showing me the thing with the stickers. If I get this set, which I hope to, I'll probably leave the stickers off. Awesome that all those extra drum lacquered pieces are included. Hah, that back window piece is pretty specialized, but if LEGO releases it plain or in other colors, I can see it being used as the cockpit canopy for spaceships and such.
Here in Australia, every new Speed Champions line is more expensive than the last. The 6-wide cars were $20, the first run of 8-wide cars were $25, the next line was $28, and the James Bond and Fast and Furious cars are both $30
I love this set. It’s so cool. The car build is awesome, Hate the stickers tho. I also made a stand that displays all the different license plates and James Bond can stand in front of them
eventhough I already have the Speed Champion standing in front of me, I watched this video after RUclips recommended it to me. I really like your honest review. you pointed out all the good and also bad things, you even mentioned a competitor of LEGO, Cobi. a watched a few reviews from people that got the set sponsored by LEGO even before it was officially released, and "oh the stickers are so cool!", yea right. i really like your honest review, made me follow the channel.
I just built this last night, skipped most of the stickers as they seemed superfluous. Really nice build with clever details and I even got it on sale! I was on holiday in Poland and found this and the Fast & Furious car on sale in a big toy store. Between the good exchange rate and the sale price they were a bargain!
Bought this set and loved building it! The usage of the gun piece for the muffler was a great way to still include 007’s signature weapon as a spare part. Spectacular surprise and seemed like more than just a coincidence. Very happy with this set!
I totally agree with you about stickers. There are also issues with other things. The stickers do not have the same color, but this can sometimes be corrected by making the sticker colorless (transparent). It's been so many years since Lego was introduced, but they still can't get rid of the stickers. They add various new parts (which is probably a good thing), although I liked the uniformity of the old kits more. Sometimes they make sense, but rarely. Does anyone remember that Lego is a children's toy? At what age did you learn how to apply stickers perfectly? I'm 22 and still sometimes I can't do it well. When a child sticks them, everything looks incredibly bad.
Great review as always! For anyone else who has this set, is the rear window piece scuffed up? Mine had a few marks just from packaging but I’m not sure if it’s worth contacting Lego for a replacement. If everyone has the same issue then it’s okay, but if I just got unlucky I will reach out to them! Also I definitely agree that Daniel Craig should be the front and centre Bond here (even though I don’t see the resemblance), but it would have been a nice touch to include alternate heads and hairpieces for the other bond actors. Lego can absolutely do this as they’re consistently giving hairpieces for helmeted characters and have even done alternate headpieces too (I.e. Batman in the most recent Tumbler set, Spider-Man CMF). I guess it would just be n issue for licensing for the other actors
This is a very atypical Speed Champions set. To begin with, it's the first (?) to not obviously be of a racing theme, and Bond doesn't even have a helmet. Comparatively, at least Fast and Furious is a franchise with some racing elements. The build slews heavily on the interior, something quite rare for the series. Usually the most you get are some suggestions for a headrest, but this set has proper folding chairs and (as mentioned in the video) a small e-brake handle, which was kinda mind boggling. But on the flip side, the build is surprisingly straightforward for a Speed Champion build, which more often than not leave you mind blown for the techniques used. This one is mostly just straight up brick stacking, with some minor surprises around the front/rear fenders and the intake. In a sense, it feels a lot like a normal icons car, focusing on a smooth end product rather than crazy build process. The stickers -- if inevitable -- should be clear-backed. The gigantic rear window is a big surprise.
The part usage for the set is BEAUTIFUL. I'm amazed & inspired by some of the prints in this set too. Like the spare indicator 1x1 can be used as a small button. The rear, unique windshield can be used for trains or ships which is cute, & it's great to see more drum lacquered parts!
This is phenomenal, and if Speed Champions is moving into film cars, perhaps in the future it could move into "normal" cars that aren't for motorsport. Civilian cars for cities, and the like.
I think it looks great without the stickers. I built the white Lamborghini without any of the stickers, and it looks great. The designs for the shaping were excellent.
Great tip on the stickers and thanks for the work you've been doing the past years. Great reviews. I come back regularly to appreciate your opinion and to enjoy the bricks! :) Cheers from The Netherlands
For every question that starts with "Why does Lego do X?" The answer is usually "money". I'd wager printing transparent stickers is more expensive. Another argument might be that transparent stickers more easily show air bubbles trapped underneath. There's always a tradeoff.
@@mahj alongside the air bubbles thing, we have to consider their target market and actual market, which may include kids, newcomers etc. who might struggle doing clear stickers properly as for why the colour is wrong, it also depends on how they do stickers, since it's probably a mix of different ink, it's possible the ratio isn't consitent enough (assuming some people get it matching better), or the ratio isn't possible with their tools
Just got this as a first time lego builder, almost 30 and looking for a new hobby I finally caved and got something relatively cheap and something I'm into (007) definitely had a blast with this model and regret not getting into pego earlier
After seeing it without the stickers on the side, If I were to get another one, I’d probably try cutting the door handle and side vent out of the larger stickers they’re a part of and just apply those. It looks so much better.
What a set! can't wait to see what other movie cars are in store for the future. HOWEVER... I implore everyone... do not accept poor prints. make them send you a replacement part. If the replacement doesn't look right, make them send it a second time. Being complaisant is not the answer. We pay far too much money for this plastic to be dealing with issues like that. maybe one day theyll get tired of sending everyone new stuff and finally fix the issue at hand! Also the designer def worked a gun piece into the build knowing there's always an extra. 10/10 decision
One thing Jang didn't mention that I think is worth mentioning is that the cab is too long - on the real DB5 the windscreen starts behind the side vents but on this model, it's starts about halfway along them. It's definitely a bit off when you look at the real car. Not the end of the world, but worth mentioning!
Bucket List: Roger Moore & Lotus Esprit, Pierce Brosnan & BMW 7 series, Tim Dalton & AM V8 Vantage (incl. ice pack), Sean Connery & Toyota 2000, George Lazenby & AM DBS, Edd China & Rover 820
While I was building I decided to watch casino Royale and the film finished and I still hadn’t completed it then I was half way through quantum solance and finally finished it and I’m happy
New rear window piece looking like it will really go well with all sorts of classic cars. I bet we will be seeing quite a bit of that one in the future, and I like it!
Only a small portion of the side stickers actually have a print, wonder how the sides would look if the printed portions are cut out and applied instead of the whole sticker. 🤔
options for speed champions stickers - transparent backgrounds, or smaller stickers. Smaller would need more guidance how to place correctly but I think could be a good option. Feels like a logical step for SC line
Haven’t finished the review yet, but at first glance awesome design! Don’t like the stickers at the doors but it seems you can just leave them off without loosing too much design-wise…
I only used the licence plate stickers and it still looks great. Only problem i have is that his right hand is blocked by the window so basically he's steering with one hand.
First and foremost, this is a lovely set. I loved the build and it was very relaxing to build. For the record the parts on the bumper are called “over-riders”. I do have an issues with the side stickers, and I’m afraid my “Aston Martin” logo stickers were meant for you, as they did NOT line up and I had the cheat then over to one side. Many people have mentioned the lack of “B” pillars and I used parts of the wasted sticker sheet to add these. And of course, mine wears “BMT 216A”. Why not...
I am in love with mine. Looks so great next to my large one. And i do find it funny the smaller one has at least a suggestion of a backseat unlike the large model (which is obviously thanks to the big one's wonderful ejector seat mechanism). The majority of the greenhouse on this one being one piece is definitely quite a move on Lego's part.. and can look odd at times but I'm sure they tried a brickbuilt assembly before resorting to this. Very good review that covers all the important points.
given that the steering wheel off set is an issue with all off the 8 wide speed champions sets you would think Lego could make a new steering wheel mould where the column isn't in the middle of 2x plate but to one side.
I put the stickers on, I think they look okay. But I'm having trouble with where the front of the roof meets the top of the windshield. If I push the back of the rear window dome fully down into place at the back, it opens up a gap at the top front.
Great review 😀. I havent got many speed champions but this is one i will be getting. Looks so nice and a great minifig too 🔥🔥 also some shops in the UK are selling it for £18. cheaper than the RRP.
The use of the Agents pistols piece in this build (as part of the exhaust) was absolutely just so that they could include an extra in the parts for a gun on the sly.
I was very happy with the extra black nozzle piece. Bond‘s wrench will be sitting on the back seat until the end of time.
haha, exactly what i did when i finished building the set, rattling gently whenever i move it
Honestly one of the best sets of the year, getting a Daniel Craig James Bond figure is so insanely cool to finally have
I think most of the sets released in this second half of the year have been great. This is certainly up there.
The fact that this is both a licensed character and a licensed car brand and its only $20 is pretty amazing me.
I think I’d cut out the detail parts of those big stickers and just use that. Maybe also cut some stripes from the leftovers to place around the windshield and windows?

Just got this as a first time lego builder, almost 30 and looking for a new hobby I finally caved and got something relatively cheap and something I'm into (007) definitely had a blast with this model and regret not getting into pego earlier
After seeing it without the stickers on the side, If I were to get another one, I’d probably try cutting the door handle and side vent out of the larger stickers they’re a part of and just apply those. It looks so much better.
I got this yesterday and after building it I was looking forward to seeing this review. Glad it came so quickly
What a set! can't wait to see what other movie cars are in store for the future.
The fig should've been Sean Connery since he is most associated with this car. That back window piece makes me think we'll be getting a VW Bug soon.
One thing Jang didn't mention that I think is worth mentioning is that the cab is too long - on the real DB5 the windscreen starts behind the side vents but on this model, it's starts about halfway along them. It's definitely a bit off when you look at the real car. Not the end of the world, but worth mentioning!
The stickers should have been transparent instead of grey. Super easy fix that would make it look so much better
How did I not know about this model comming! So cool. Definatley getting this.
options for speed champions stickers - transparent backgrounds, or smaller stickers. Smaller would need more guidance how to place correctly but I think could be a good option. Feels like a logical step for SC line
hmm wonder if I could cut out the important parts of those stickers? Or may limit how well they stick?
Love it. I was able to snag the larger one last year right before prices skyrocketed. Just bought 2 of these. Can't wait to see them in person
Cool, that car comes with a butler!!!
Haven’t finished the review yet, but at first glance awesome design! Don’t like the stickers at the doors but it seems you can just leave them off without loosing too much design-wise…
The doors swing open in the middle of the driver's seat, making it impossible to get in the car, such a weird placement
Modified the headlights to make them bigger and glassier. It also allows me to switch them out for the gun headlights.
I only used the licence plate stickers and it still looks great. Only problem i have is that his right hand is blocked by the window so basically he's steering with one hand.
Did you get the Playmobil version Jang? Do you still collect PM? I love this, getting it for sure. Wish we could’ve gotten a Sean Conney fig as well.
Love this and all other reviews on your channel, brilliant in depth discussion, and great information on global prices, keep up the good work
First and foremost, this is a lovely set. Why not...
That pointer is so funny to me ! Lol
A great build for speed champions really like this set
given that the steering wheel off set is an issue with all off the 8 wide speed champions sets you would think Lego could make a new steering wheel mould where the column isn't in the middle of 2x plate but to one side.
That rear windshield would work great on a speed champions vw beetle
I put the stickers on, I think they look okay. But I'm having trouble with where the front of the roof meets the top of the windshield. If I push the back of the rear window dome fully down into place at the back, it opens up a gap at the top front.
Great review 😀. I havent got many speed champions but this is one i will be getting. Looks so nice and a great minifig too 🔥🔥 also some shops in the UK are selling it for £18. cheaper than the RRP.
Nice, but some things are still wrong on this car: wide wheel arches, and the lack of window frames, and wing mirrors.
Great video, great car. Looking forward to the city train review...
Plus steering on the right hand side because that's where it should be 🇬🇧😉
i can see the new specialised window piece being repurposed for a large UCS scale Mandalorian gauntlet fighter cockpit.
