I’m 17 years old, about to turn 18. I live in Athens, and have loved the Dawgs since birth. I’ve experienced so many painful losses to the Crimson Tide, so winning last night made me happier than I maybe ever have been. That being said, it isn’t about me. My grandfather has been a Georgia fan for 70 years, and he cried after we won. GO DAWGS!
From an LSU alumnus (and walk-on), Alabama did NOT lose that NCG in any way, shape or form. Georgia won that game in one of the best performances I have ever seen. Case in point - early Bryce Young fumble (missed call) was returned for UGA TD only to be called back(incorrectly called arm in throwing motion). But UGA kept playing Defense as proved only team to hold UA below 29 points (UC in CFP) except LSU (2o) & AU (24), but UGA’s Defense played all 6o mins. as they had their entire season. That closing pick-6 by UGA was a perfect play by a DB - catching at peak of his jump on a great pass by the Heisman QB, Young. He did NOT make a bad pass. UGA’s CB made a highlight reel play which if he had not made, UA may have scored the go ahead touchdown. Great game, no bad plays, only one bad referee call and only one serious injury was sustained by either team.

I was born January 5th 1980, literally waited my whole life for this...I was in tears, literally like a baby....I am SO PROUD TO BE A DAWG 4 LIFE, THIS WAS WORTH THE PAIN and The WAIT... SEEING STETSON BENNETT IN TEARS AFTER ALL THE MEDIA CRITICISM AND his own fanbase was divided on him as QB1, but kid played his heart out, was always 100% dedicated to the University of Georgia since the age of 4 years old, he silenced all of his doubters last night with two incredible clutch fourth-quarter touchdowns and now he'll be a University of Georgia Legend forever, now it can be said that Coach Smart and Coach Monken actually knew what they were doing all season long, and as fans we should have believed in them as much as they believed in Stetson... it proved what I've said all the time, it's not always the most talented quarterback that leads you, but sometimes you have to find the right quarterback, and that cannot be evaluated by a 5-star status... Georgia's football team, and all the players in the locker room believed in Stetson, you can see the love that he has for them. That is a pure definition of a TEAM, and that is your 2021 National Champions...Go Dawgs...
You nailed it... I've watched probably 99% of UGA snaps for 20 years... It's not just the bama losses it's every year that we have the team and we lose a game we should win. There's a bunch of years we had really great teams and tripped up on random games. I've never felt anything like it
This Natty win makes me feel so good for the future of UGA. Smart is 46. Just 46! And he may not be the youngest to ever win it but to have Saban’s model running on all cylinders, 10 years before Saban himself started it at LSU and Bama… man. Lot of great years ahead for the dawgs.
as an Ohio State fan, I must say I am very proud of you guys. I was rooting for you because I am sick and tired of Bama winning so damn much. It's nice to see someone wipe the smile off bama's face.
Pretty sure Bamas 3 key injuries wiped the smile off our faces. Bama was winning with 1 ex Ohio State receiver until he got hurt. By the way? How did you guys let that talent leave? Weird
Here's a fun thought. The last 3 years of college have literally been the best ever in at least one aspect. '19 LSU had the best single season player and offense, '20 BAMA was the best coaching staff job any one could have preformed under the bullitsh of the pandemic, and '21 UGA might have had the best storyline out of a season full of great storylines and by the way the best defense of the last 20 years if not ever.
I graduated in the spring from UGA. As a student, I experienced the Rose Bowl, 2nd and 26, the LSU/Texas losses, the Notre Dame game, the South Carolina game, the Rosemy leg break in Jacksonville, the awful game in Tuscaloosa. As an alumnus though, National Champions. My years at school were heartbreaking and I can’t imagine 41 of those. But now, we’re all at 0. ZERO!!!!
@@Thekid-e5y yeah..i know its part of the game. Key injuries to all world talent usually plays a big part in the other team winning. For now its "once out of twice" in a season.
Why do bama fans fail to mention that our "all world" reciever played less than 1/4 of that game? Our best pass rusher wasn't on the field, One of the best DBs in the nation wasn't on the field... People making excuses like the last 2 seasons haven’t been COVID riddled. To add, injuries are apart of the most physical collegiate/professional sport, Saban has a factory. We’ve been shuffling underclassmen in and out of the lineup all year. UGA ARE CHAMPS. PERIOD!

I was born in 1979. I am old enough to remember watching the Challenger explode but not old enough to remember UGA winning a national championship until Monday night.
Hey Josh, long time fan and lifelong UGA fan here. Love your show even when you pick against us. My dad ('79 UGA grad) had a conversation with you at the pregame thing and you told him you were picking "the other guys." He told you you were wrong. Not sure if he actually believed that... until it happened. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!
Tell you what sucks is being born in 1975. You're old enough to remember "Heschel Mania" and seeing the guy play but not quite old enough to remember the National Championship game in 1980. Even worse you're old enough to probably remember them losing to Pitt in '81 and Penn State in '82. Mark Richt was incredibly consistent as a coach at Georgia (74%) given what he had to work with. I firmly believe that had the administration given him the tools that Alabama gave Nick Saban that he would have won at least one - if not more - championships while at UGA. A DJ Shockley pick 6 vs Florida was the team's only blemish in the 2002 season (Richt's second year). Also a loss to South Carolina and Les Miles with his "undefeated in regulation" BS kept us out in '07. Then there was that heartbreaker in Atlanta against Alabama in '12 where WR Chris Conley caught a tipped pass (that wasn't even thrown to him) in bounds allowing the clock to run out. That was definitely the most crushing one of all. And Athens really is "a great town". Georgia has had a grand total of 5 head coaches since 1964 and up until Vince Dooley died recently every single one of them chose to stay and live in Athens after their coaching careers were over. In 2022, Vince Dooley, Ray Goff, Jim Donnan, Mark Richt, and Kirby Smart all lived in Athens, Georgia. Kirby Smart now has a 84% winning percentage after 7 years which is a full 10 percentage points higher than Richt's 15 year tenure here. Since the 21st century began and Richt took over in 2001, the Georgia bulldogs have a 77% winning percentage. That's a lot of winning over a pretty long time, and a record that a lot of fans would kill for, but all those wins without "The Big One" probably made it even more frustrating, to be honest. Anyway, it's like you said - I'm just glad to have one I can actually remember. Seeing two hometown boys like Smart and Bennett get the job done just made it that much more sweet. Go Dawgs.
I played college ball and we all grew up loving the NFL and NCAA in different ways. It's not important but I'm finding about a dozen of my crew don't watch the NFL anymore. They went too far a couple years ago. I don't know.

Josh, I was that 13 year old kid when Georgia won the Natty in 1980. I kid you not. When Georgia won it on Monday, I returned to that 13 year kid in 1980 full of joy and jubilation imaging what Larry Munson would have said on the radio when Ringo intercepted the pass and ran it in for the TD and the final seconds of the game.
First of all congratulations to UGA and their fans for a well deserved and earned national championship. I would like to touch on the final point of your (as usual) very thoughtful reaction because I feel like I lost you a little bit. Yes, the system is not broken and yes, Georgia proved once more that there is more than one way to win a national title or ascend to the elite level of the sport. However I disagree about the "when are we getting a Bryce Young here ?" point, especially considering the transfer now in place. The trend of the last few national champions is to have a star, NFL caliber QB (Winston, Watson, Burrow, Tua, Lawrence, Jones) and the only exceptions are teams who not only played quality complementary football, but possessed historically great defences. When I look at the way the sport is set up with the rule changes and everything I still believe that the fastest way to turn around a program is to get and develop a high level QB (which anybody can do, considering that we'll liely see QBs from BYU, NDSU, UNC, Pitt and Liberty were or will likelly be drafted in the first round recently) and give him talented skill players and I don't believe Georgia winning a national championship with an historic level defence littered with NFL caliber players disproves my point, but rather reinforces it. It's always true that a program who does things the right way can win a lot of games, and maybe the title playing complementary football, I just believe that the latest trends make winning the big one that way more an exception than a rule. Thanks again for a great reaction and I would love to hear from you in the case I misunderstood the point (which is always likely).
Born in 1978, went to my first UGA game in 1983 when my granddad was a groundskeeper for the UGA campus, can remember challenger blowing up but don’t remember 1980. I was 2 lol
Great video. Though I do not understand how Stetson Bennett should excite other programs. If anything it should discourage other teams because UGA was able to get by w/ a non star QB because they are basically elite everywhere else. Iow could never reproduce what UGA did because they don't have the talent to run waves of players like UGA does. Heck, there are probably 7 guys who are going to be high draft picks in the front 7 (and one of them doesn't even start)
Congratulations Georgia on a stellar season, and a championship game of redemption & perseverance. Alabama, congratulations on a good season yourselves, overcoming adversity of your own and still getting to the CFP Final. This is as clear a proof as any ever asserted that the SEC dominates NCAA Football - six SEC teams have at least one BCS/CFP title trophy, totaling 15 of 24 contested (three other times were all-SEC finals meaning three SEC teams were also runners-up to the eventual SEC & NCAA champions). Three SEC teams each have more Championships than any other conference totals except ACC which has five - but Alabama has six, LSU has three, Florida has two, and Tennessee, Auburn & Georgia have one each. No other conference has more than two BCS/CFP trophies except ACC with five (Clemson & FSU have two each), B-12 & B-1o each have two each, and PAC-1o has one.
You make a point that they won with defense which is partly true. UGA still needed their 5star tight ends, running backs, and receivers to get it done. Pickens comes up clutch, burton comes in clutch, Mitchell comes in clutch, cook pops off for ground yards that are much needed and so on. The old saying defense wins championships still is out the door. Defense keeps you in championships but you still need a slew of freaks on offense to make that one play to keep the drives going. UGA used all of their cards on offense and defense and that’s what it takes now a days. People say you can just spread teams out and out score the other guys but that’s not true either. Teams from the sec will always have a defense that can slow you down enough to match you.

Xerxes to Leonidas.."our arrows shall blot out the sun." Leonidas' reply to Xerxes..."then we shall fight in the shade." Nick Saban after their SEC Championship win, "I feel all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." Oh wait, that was Yamamoto after their sucker punch at Pearl Harbor, but still applies here. Just basking in the win. Go Dawgs!
Georgia felt like the biggest underdog. They got shlapped by Alabama and everyone wrote them off. Hell, there were people saying that Michigan would beat Georgia. But Georgia fought with every ounce of sweat, blood, and tear to get to the point where they are today.
Kirby built a defense with 11 future NFL player’s. Don’t know if you can build that at Iowa, Vtech, Michigan st. Those type of schools unfortunately don’t have the same level of High school Athlete as the State of Georgia. Also not just the state of Georgia but Alabama, Louisiana,Florida the kids are built different. And you don’t need to travel to far to get into those state’s & recruit.
SEC domination of BCS/CFP era has inspired & stimulated systemic change in coaching staffs, strategies, facilities, support & training staff to compete with UA, LSU, UGA, UF and A&M. B-1o, B-12, PAC and SOME ACC programs have a long way to go. Aside of OSU, PSU, MSU, UM, OU, OkSU, BU, UTx, Oregon, CU, FSU, UWV, VaTech, UNC & ND - few schools or conferences can compete with SEC’s top 6 of each division.
the change happened when FINALLY UGA staff (kirby & luke) finally got their heads out of their holes and took ericson (who cant play physically w/ sec level d front 7s) and moved salyer inside and jones at LT - WHY THIS WASNT THE COMBO BEFORE THIS IS UNEXPLAINED - there is this thing with that staff where i need you to have it there in your head over anything else - problem is i dont care how many calls and reads u know IF YOU CANT PHYSICALLY HANDLE IT IT DOES NOT MATTER - I honestly can justify the QB decisions more than some personnel decisions they have made on the o line - they started Owen Condon over McClendon in 2020 ark game - I do not what they are seeing in practice and scrimmages but it was OBVIOUS condon isnt on the same planet as McClendon - I would LOVE to sit in a room with film on the screen and just what could possibly be going through their heads with these two o line choices - ERICSON CANT DO IT - period yet they kept going to him

So Bama’s entire roster of second string 5 stars couldn’t muster up a win, but UGA can beat them with a No Star walk-on at QB? How do Bama fans think these injury excuses are making them sound?
Bingo - Adonai Mitchell and Ladd McConkey are both FRESHMEN (not to mention 3-star recruits) but got the 1st and 2nd most catches among the WRs this season for Georgia thanks to all of the injuries at WR going back to the preseason. Here's what Bama had on the bench - all available on Monday to the best of my knowledge - behind Metchie and Williams, and this is just the guys who had catches in 2021: Traeshon Holden (Sophomore, 4-star) Ja'Corey Brooks (Freshman, 5-star) JoJo Earle (Freshman, 4-star) Javon Baker (Sophomore, 4-star) Agiye Hall (Freshman, 4-star) Thaiu Jones Bell (Sophomore, 4-star) Christian Leary (Freshman, 4-star)

Say what you want to whether you like him or not, Stetson Bennett is a model example two young kids to always believe in yourself regardless of what everyone else tells you, this gives those kids that are in school that might not be the prototypical athlete hope that they can reach their dreams, and make the impossible possible, reminds me of the kid that might be the last one picked on the playground, and then that kid that no one believed in takes you to a national title when everyone else said it was impossible or he wasn't good enough... it's easy for 5-star recruits like Bryce young to go out and perform because they've always been looked at as being that good or being that guy who's going to succeed, that's going to win the Heisman Trophy, but for Stetson Bennett no one ever wanted to give him a chance and the only people that really believed in him was the coaching staff and Kirby Smart, so complain about Kirby Smart all you want and his inability to develop a quarterback, he knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew the exact quarterback that he needed to lead that locker room... just because you have a five-star status does not mean that you're always the best...

Here's a fun thought. The last 3 years of college have literally been the best ever in at least one aspect. '19 LSU had the best single season player and offense, '20 BAMA was the best coaching staff job any one could have preformed under the bullitsh of the pandemic, and '21 UGA might have had the best storyline out of a season full of great storylines and by the way the best defense of the last 20 years if not ever.

that 4th quarter was a blast. perfect ending to a great season. i'm looking forward to next season, if the covid natsies allow it
Tell you what sucks is being born in 1975. Go Dawgs.

Why aren’t we including Atlanta United in the GA champions conversation?
Because soccer is not a major professional sport in America. - JP
