    On quibble - Michigan has been close during the past 25 years. Not just the last two previous trips to the playoffs, but also there was 2006 where OSU was #1 and Michigan was #2. The game was a classic with a 42-39 final score, and there were arguments that the national championship game should be a rematch (in the end, though, it wasn't and OSU got destroyed in the championship game - oops). Also in 2016, it was #2 OSU vs #3 Michigan, with OSU prevailing after a controversial favorable spot on a 4th down conversion attempt that looked like it had been stuffed. The point is, up to this point, Michigan has not been Nebraska or Miami -- formerly great programs that have been on the skids for a generation.

    Im 34yrs old and became a Michigan "fan" in 1999. The one thing that turned us back from a top 20 team instead of a top 5 team is QB play. We we're always a top tier team from 1999-07. After Chad Henne left we fell off. From 2008-2020 were some dark years where if we had a QB we could have competed for Big 10 champs CFP spots. JJ really took this team over the top. 2024 National Champion Michigan Wolverines LetsGoBlue!

    Have to say this was my favorite playoff of the CFP era, speaking as a football fan not a homer wearing fan goggles. All the games, except for the last were competitive. But more importantly, I think it demonstrated that, like boxing, it's a game of styles where often the seedings can determine the winner. My thoughts going in was that Washington would do better against Alabama or Texas.
    Another thing oft not considered is the element of chance oft describes as "which way the ball bounces". Michigan totally dominated the 1st half of the Alabama / Michigan game ... Alabama was almost unstoppable in the 2nd half. With Michigan on 4th and 2,I think everyone on the field, at the game and watching the game ... when that ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage believed the game was over.... when it was caught, looking at Alabama faces on the field, they already looked defeated,
    Those kinds of changes in what loosely call "momentum" have crushing effect on teams when they stop playing to win, and play "not to lose".

      Washington had 13 points on 13 drives, 2 turnovers and only 1 pass over 20 yards that came in the 4th quarter. Michigan is 1st in fewest penalties, Washington is 127th. Michigan is 1st in turnover margin, Washington is 49th. Michigan ran for the most yards in CFP title history. Holding calls happen by both teams every play. You win some you lose some that's football. I posit that perhaps a holding call wasn't the reason Michigan won by 3 scores.

    • @robertdaniels7695
      @robertdaniels7695 10 месяцев назад +3

      Losing teams that failed to execute, often complain about a call as the reason. If you picked a game based upon one stat alone, the turnover margin ratio, you would be correct 85% of the time. Washington 2 turnovers Michigan 0

But the rule was put in place as a financial matter not an performance advantage. So I believe no wins will be vacated, but there will be fines, scholarships taken and possible game suspension.

    Congratulation Michigan on winning a national championship this year, but those recruiting ranking almost made me spit up my drink. I am a Texas A&M football fan, who has been able to recruit significantly better than Michigan in recruiting, but was unable to develop the necessary culture or brotherhood that Michigan has had under Jim Harbough. The main reason Jimbo Fisher got fired was obviously not winning games enough, but more importantly he was unable to build the culture and brotherhood that tends to makes a team fight for each other against a common opponent. I hope Mike Elko will be able to recruit both through high school and the portal, which is another conversation, while also being able to build culture or brotherhood of us against the world in college football.

    Jeff Lebby caught advanced scouting and served a half game suspension
    Connor stallions caught advanced scouting and was terminated
    Baylor faced NO OTHER sanctions and the half game suspension was the only thing that happened
    Harbaugh served a 3 game suspension even though the ncaa said “no evidence Harbaugh knew of stallions actions”
    The precedent has been set with Lebby and Baylor

    • @ScottCleve33
      @ScottCleve33 10 месяцев назад

      Ummm, Lebby went to one game he attended and to my knowledge he didn't record anything.
      On the other hand Michigan was guilty of breaking this rule many times over the span of three seasons And recorded the game to study later. There is no comparison here between the two and no precedent set as what Michigan did was at unprecedented levels of rules violations.

    The viewership stat is deceiving, as is most stats- you have to step back and look at it & most people don’t. College football is still very regional, especially popular in regions that don’t have any pro sports, not just football because options are king. The sport has to grow in big markets, aka the northeast corridor, The DC/Baltimore market, California, etc… if the sport is only dominated by the SEC, it has reached its zenith especially with advertising, as they prefer an wider reach not just one culture. Michigan is a more powerful brand than any SEC team not named Texas or A&M. Their alumni base and endowment are a huge indicator. The vast majority of those views were because of them. Ohio state Vs Michigan in the natty would break the record. Unfortunately, outside of the south(Texas & Florida not included), you won’t find Alabama/Georgia/LSU casuals and the casual fan is the what the sport needs to grow. And a big reason for that is the south’s history & lower population, unfortunately. Regions and cities follow their local college teams, in general, if that. It’s not cool to wear an Alabama or Georgia tees in LA or NY, like it or not- that’s an indicator. For the sport to get to NFL heights, it has to have teams/fans in the big cities and it has to have NFL parity.
