First, thanks for making the video, this was the exact same problem I encountered on my Peugeot 307 2002 model. Some additional comments that might help others.. 1. I did not need to take off the whole wheel arch cover. Only pulled one of these push-in clips out and pulled the cover aside. That was enough to put my hand through and remove the pump. 2. Taking apart the black and white part of the pump was near impossible. The white part was stuck and had to ease it out with a small screwdriver but in doing so damaged the black part. 3. Once the parts were apart I used a stanley knife as described to shave off some of the rubber from both ends. Not the neatest of jobs, but I don't think it needs to be. 4. Putting the black and white part together I had to use some wire to twist around and hold it tightly together as I had damaged the black part as mentioned. 5. Putting the pump back was ok. 6. Tried it and everything works!! No leaks either. 7. Just a note that complete pumps cost around 8 british pounds on ebay so even if you damage things beyond repair, it is still something you can fix yourself for under a tenner.
Thanks very much Oliver something even mechanics could not sort. I never took the wheel off it was very narrow space to move in but its fixed. I can see why you did not separate the black and the white bit in the video. Stabbed myself so many times with that flat head screwdriver lol. I found a lot of my cheap tools broke in the end I had to use what I had. Using a blunt knife is not so good. I used a brick wall to smooth down the rubber bung by rubbing it till rough edges had gone. Was a nightmare to get black and white bit together. I would recommend for anyone trying to fit the pump back on to take off the rubber ring part. Then stick washing up liquid round it to make it slippy and put it in the hole first, then pop the pump into place. That will save you a lot more time. My car is now fully working now with both front and back jetwash thanks to this man. Yay!!!
Greetings from Australia (Melbourne) was doing the front brakes and decided to tackle the washer its been bugging me for 3 years now Perfect thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for your advice. I fixed the pump of my Megane -05 succesfully yesterday. I didn't have to take off the mud guard wholly. I just loosened two star screws in it and twisted the front part behind wheel bearing and there was the wash fluid container and the pump attached to it revealed. I loosened the two hoses and e.wire first and then tried to loosen the whole pump but I got only the divider assembly out. That's even better! I opened it and cut the swollen ends of the rubber and put everything back. Now the windscreen and rear screen flushing work as they used to!
This worked perfectly on my Reanault Kangoo. Thank you. On the Kangoo the resovoir is accesed from on top by pulling back the plasic directly beneath the windscreen. One 10mm bolt frees the resovoir for removal.
This was a great tutorial, although the pump on my Megane was in a different position to this post, I managed to fix the problem. Thank you Olivier for saving me a lot of expense and grief!
Excellent, thank you! Fixed my Scenic 2 washer problem. No need to even take wheel off. Just turn to the left, undo 2 mud guard bolts for access to washer bottle!
You're a hero. I definitely reccomend removing the tank as it's a real pain to get the pump back on without doing so. But perfect instructions and worked brilliantly
I fixed the washer pump on my Grand Scenic III yesterday broadly following the approach outlined by Olivier Pirard. I had the same symptoms as many, i.e. front washer worked fine but not the rear even though I could hear the pump operating. The procedure I followed was: I removed the front wheel and front half wheel arch liner completely to give easy access to the washer pump. I used a large bowl to catch the washer fluid but still failed to catch the first gush as I pulled the pump out of the reservoir which was nearly full! I did not detach the electrical cable, i.e. just left the pump body dangling on it. I marked the black-side washer pipe with a piece of black tape to ensure I could put them back on the correct way. The pipes both pulled off fairly easily. The front / rear "distributor" was straightforward to remove from the pump body with a flat-blade screwdriver. Separating the two halves of the distributor was more difficult. It moved 0.5mm when twisted but was reluctant to be prised apart so I put it in a cup of boiling water for 10 mins. I was then able to ease it apart with a smallish size flat-blade screwdriver alternatively pushing and twisting it between the cut-out on the black half and inlet on the white half and pushing the retaining lug on the opposite side. Once apart, the rubber bung and its collar fell out. The rubber bung can be removed from its collar easily. I used the flat head of a small nail to push it out. There is a retaining notch around the middle of the inside of the collar. The bung is shaped like a miniature dumbbell. I did not shorten the rubber bung as it was only slightly longer that its collar but I used very fine sandpaper to reduce its circumference slightly. I cleaned the "distributor" parts and used a smear of plumber's grease to aid re-assembly. The "distributor" would not push together readily by hand so I used a vice which did the job easily. The rest of the re-assembly was straightforward.
Thank you for your work - great video, I tried it on my Kangoo pump and it worked! Was nearly ready to buy a new pump - just saved myself thirty Euros or so, thanks to you!
This worked beautifully for me, the parts were a bit stiff to get apart and i wasn't as neat when i sliced the bits of rubber off but i sanded them a little smoother and its all working like brand new, thank you Olivier for a very nicely made and easy to follow instructional video
Many many thanks friend! IT happened to me, i have manage to do this in my old Vivaro without taking wheel out. It was not easy because i had -3 Celsius outside, but works like new! Thanks!
Thank you very much - your very comprehensable video just saved me trouble and money :-) On my Peugeot 307 SW I left the right front wheel (fully turned to the right), pump, reservoir, pipes and the connector in place and only unfixed the mud shield and bent it slightly aside and down. Then I removed the black-white distributor, disassembled and cleaned it carefully and cut off the surplus rubber from the slider. Meanwhile the fluid rinsed into a washing basin (3 liters) and could afterwards be reused. After reassembling everthing works like a charme!!! :-)
Thanks for explaining how the pump slider works. I have to do this job on my Toyota Yaris. The Yaris pump may just run in the opposite direction for the rear window but your video is off help. My big passion is for Panhard cars but they have much simpler washers !
Great fix worked for me 10 minute fix ! although would ad that you only need to undo 2x torox screws to flap back the plastic wheel arch which covers the pump to access the pump. Thanks again
Thank you so much! I knew the pump wasn't broken because it worked for the rear window, I guess the rubber piece will be stuck blocking the front washer pipes..
Thanks this works took me about 1 and half hours to from wheel off to on and that was going very steady with tea at half time very happy great video very clear 👍
Hello sir.. I have a different problem on my 2020 Leon .my rear window washer jet is leaking(draining without pressure) water while windscreen washer jets are working..front and rear ones are spraying fine with good pressure when ı operate them via the lever. only issue is the rear one drains fluid continuously while front jets are spraying at the same time.No other leaking or draining while the car is still or after using the jets. Can you give me an idea please?..regards
Hi, Greetings from Serbia, Europe. I have problem with rear wipers, so the motor is working, but the tube which goes to the end of the rear window is somewhere broken or demaged, so when we pump air ih the tube we hear sounds somewhere in the chassis. Do you know where this tube goes to the rear window. Is it uper area of chassis (roof) for example, or maybe the tube goes somewhere down under the seat. This tube is used to spray the rear window. Thanks a lot.
I didn't get this far, this looked like a step too far for me and I was pretty much on the verge of calling the garage. I'd figured the issue wasn't that serious as the pump motor was making all the right kind of noises, but just no water. Then I thought - what if stick a hose in the reservoir tank and give it a blast in the tank and stir it up a bit in the event that there's gunge or something preventing the flow? In the end I used a Karcher jet spray and gave it a couple of blasts and tried again and that had worked! Maybe try this first if it sounds like it might be something jammed or blocked?
I have exactly this problem on a Kangoo Van and will be looking at in more detail later. You do not say if your make/model of vehicle is same or similar enough to above to work with this type of pump, but this design is very common. So, if Rear is OK with water coming out then the Pump Fuse MUST be ok too! Can you hear the pump when you try the front screen wash? If yes, then the "Slide" (Shuttlecock Valve) is just stuck and this fix will work. If no, then you will need to check for Voltage at the connector when asking for front spray before going any further.
Great video, thanks. I have a Xsara Picasso 2004. The screen wash takes a long time to get to the windscreen (wiper wipes the dry screen about 10 times before the water arrives!). Is this a non-return valve problem? The rear one works perfectly (instant water). Please help... my screen is getting scratched! Thanks!
Mark Muller Hello Mark, To me, if you have a strong spray on the front windshield, it means that the slider is stuck inside the pump and then with the pressure rising, it is pushed to correct position. A good test will be to unplug the hoses at the outlet of the pump and with someone unside the car to drive the pump, check if the fluid goes out in both directions. If yes, you have a nearly pluged front hose, if not, check inside the pump as shown in the video. Kind regards.
Olivier Pirard thanks. When the water eventually arrives at the front, the pressure is good. It just takes a long time...like the hose is empty and needs to fill up first. This is why I thought it might be a problem with the non-return valve near the jets.
Brilliant tutorial - Thank you!! However being very lazy I didn't bother to jack up the car or take the wheel off; I just undid the two star screws under the bumper and pulled the wheel arch back to reveal the pump and tank. Put a flat screwdriver between the tank and the stopper housing and prize apart. Make sure you have a bucket to catch the screen wash when you pop out the little stopper housing. Release the pipes from the clips and it will give you enough play to pull out the stopper housing and then prize apart it apart to reveal the little stopper. All done in about 15 mins and that included searching for the right size star bit!!!
Hey thank for the video. I bought new washer pump as mine didn't have enough pressure. I've realised that after replacing washer pump pressure is the same, half of the windscreen isn't covered in washer fluid. Is it possible that pipes are clogged? I've cleaned the jets and I've replaced the washer pump and I'm running out of ideas.
Adrian G Hello, As you as jet working, swap it with the other one. So if the spray follow the jet, it means that the other jet is clogged. Otherwise, it means that you have clogged/collapse pipe somewhere.
+SAM WEST Unplug the pump connector and with an assistant activate the pump to check if there is voltage on the connector terminals. If no, check the fuse.(if any)
Genius!
I was just about to buy a new pump and this fixed mine. Love it, hate the throw away world we live in.
I've yet to investigate, but I love the video. Will comment again when hopefully the repair will have been completed.

Thank you so much!! I have my MOT in a couple of days and this has saved me the stress of waiting for parts to arrive and wasting parts! Great video!!

That's the purpose of those tutorials.
I'm bit suprised that it might be helpfull so far from europe.
Are you a french car owner?
Sorry for the delay to replay.Always liked French cars.Over the years we have ownedRenault 12,14,15,16Peugeot 504, 205 GTI, and the 307 XSI all fun.
Nice change to see a clear video of just the info needed with no added rubbish!
Perfect! Thank you. On a Renault Kangoo, access is easy from above: remove wipers and plastic top cover. Reservoir & pump lift out.
To my 2013 Kangoo it seems to be located like in the video.

Thanks mate. Washers was the only thing I needed to pass the mot. Thanks to your video I've now got another 12months motoring 👍👍
This is a brilliant fix. My car is due it's MOT and it would have failed if it weren't for this. The hardest bit is taking out the inner mudguard!!!!!
This was a great tutorial, although the pump on my Megane was in a different position to this post, I managed to fix the problem. Thank you Olivier for saving me a lot of expense and grief!
Thanks very much for posting this Olivier. It was exactly the problem you describe on my Grand Picasso. Vive l'Europe.
Excellent, thank you! Fixed my Scenic 2 washer problem. No need to even take wheel off. Just turn to the left, undo 2 mud guard bolts for access to washer bottle!

Hello Olivier, I watched your video and did exactly what you said and guess what? The pump works again!!
Thanks so much!!!
You are welcome.
Thanks very much. Excellent guide. Saved me taking it to a garage where they would probably have fitted, and charged me for it, a complete new pump
Thank you fella you are the MAN I got sent the wrong pump so tried and cut the rubber like you said and the old one is now working great thanks again
Thank you for your work - great video, I tried it on my Kangoo pump and it worked! Was nearly ready to buy a new pump - just saved myself thirty Euros or so, thanks to you!
What a good guide , will be trying this later today on my 03 CITROEN XSARA PICASSO

Thanks for the video, the pump was not working when I put 12 volt on it, it was good to learn that the polarity changes the output front/back.
Thank you so much, that works perfectly. I wasn't sure how much to cut off, so cut back to 1mm of centre section, worked straight away.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Clear instructions and pictures. Very much appreciated
Köszönöm Oliver! Jó útmutatás, tökéletes eredmény!
Merci Olivier, Nice and simple video explaining how to fix the fault, it is now all working and I have saved a few £'s as well
Merci Olivier ... You saved me a lot of money and a lot of time ... Thanks

Great fix worked for me 10 minute fix ! although would ad that you only need to undo 2x torox screws to flap back the plastic wheel arch which covers the pump to access the pump.
Thanks again
Worked perfectly on my 2009 c4 Picasso so thank you
Olivier, awesome work! Very professional way of explaning. Great video. Love the effects! Thank you!
You saved my life and deserve a 1000000000 likes!
Thank you!!!
Excellent - very useful and enabled me to get the job done with no fuss.
Thank you so much! I knew the pump wasn't broken because it worked for the rear window, I guess the rubber piece will be stuck blocking the front washer pipes..
This fixed my Scenic 2005 pump. Thanks!

All worked on my Citroen C4. Thank you for the tip!
Thank you, working fine for me in my Peugeot 307 SW here in Iceland.
A thousand thanks! Worked perfectly on my 307!

Thank you very much! This helped me fix the fluid pump on my 2001 Xsara Picasso. :)
Many thanks it's a best tutorial I have ever seen.thanks again I just fixed mine.
I have had my doubts but it worked like a charm! Thanks a lot!
Thanks! It was a little more difficult to get to the tank on my C5, but it worked!
Great easy to follow instructions, works perfectly now.

Perfect !! Worked fine...Thankyou very much !
thanks very much, i bought the wrong pump for my clio but this was the backup plan, worked perfectly
Is it same sistem for citroen c5 2001 to reach the pump?
Thank you very much followed the very clear instructions and fixed my washer
Thank you! Worked like a charm!

Nice idea if you can get it in bits, mine was glued shut.
Thank you for that video, yesterday i was able to fix the very same problem on Peugeot 307 SW. :)
Great!
Thank you for sharing this information.
Can I pour cilit bang and hot water into the reservoir and try like that ? Would it save me to take off the wheel and the mudguards ?
I guess you can give it a try.
Do you think it'll damage the paint ?
@@Physical258 No idea.
You'd better try with hot water only
My front windscreen washer is not working, but the rear is ok.So in the front is not spraying liquid. Any idea? It is the pomp or fuses???? Thank you!

thanks for the tutorial. my pump is again functional, but now its leaky. one must be really carefull when opening the distributor part...
Thanks!
Mark Muller
Hello Mark,
To me, if you have a strong spray on the front windshield, it means that the slider is stuck inside the pump and then with the pressure rising, it is pushed to correct position.
Do you have any leaks in the hoses involved in the front side?
Brilliant it worked! Thank you so much for the information.
Thanks for this video, it did exactly what it saids on the packet and just days before the mot!
Haha. Great video and lovely accent! Now I will try and fix the pump myself.
Thank you for a Great film, did as you instructed, and have saved many Euro/Pounds. Thank you again
It works on my Citroen Xsara Picasso. Thank you!
Brilliant tutorial - Thank you!!

Release the pipes from the clips and it will give you enough play to pull out the stopper housing and then prize apart it apart to reveal the little stopper.

Thank you for your nice comment.
Just took mine apart and there was no rubber part in side 😔
Thanks Olivier - great fix .... on Saxo 200. Merci beaucoup
Thanks very much it worked a treat on my Clio 1.5 it works perfectly now
best explaination ever. thank you Malteserob
Adrian G Hello,
As you as jet working, swap it with the other one.
So if the spray follow the jet, it means that the other jet is clogged.
Otherwise, it means that you have clogged/collapse pipe somewhere.
Thank you! I'll try that!

Sorry for my bad grammar and misswriting
By "As you as", I mean "As you has"
By "the spray follow", I mean "the spray follows" ;)
thank u so much for ur help just 10 min job helped me alot u saved my time n money. thank u
Thanks for this Information. It saved me hours. Excellent thanks. merci beaucoup.
Would this cause it to leak a little too
Yes, it might leaks if the rubber is not correctly cut.
All my pleasure.
GOOD JOB ! THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US. IT WAS GREAT HELP.

Merci beaucoup. Very instructive video. Helped me very lot
Thanks I got to sort out my pump and this is very informative!
im having trouble removing the white part from the black to get access to the slider, it wont separate, any help?
static cam On this part, you have 2 retaining tabs.
Lift them gently and separate the black and the white parts.
