People think Wilt put up those numbers against 6' janitors but Wilt actually dominated HOF players like Bill Russell, Walt Bellamy, and Nate Thurmond. That's how great Wilt was.
I saw Wilt play in a preseason double-header in Seattle in the late 1960s when he was beyond hid prime. After playing in the first game he came sat in the stands to watch the second game. I was among several kids who swarmed him to get his autograph. He kindly and patiently signed autographs for everyone. I will never forget the moment. Bless you Mr. Chamberlin.
I started watching NBA about 1970(we finally got a TV....hehe), he was so big, and just dominated at times, so self assured, I was in awe. One Sunday afternoon, after church, the Lakers were playing the Bulls....Wilt was going against Tom Borwinkle a big 7 footer. at one point they were fighting for a rebound along the baseline, Borwinkle was banging against Wilt and Wilt gave him a shove with his forearm as he(Wilt) grabbed the ball... no lie, Borwinkle literally flew into the seats. The announcer was astounded... They showed it in slo mo.... smack. Ole Tom literally lifts off the floor and crashes into the seats.... I think he had to go sit down on the bench after he got up.... Point is... Wilt was really strong. and go watch Wilt in the 72 semi finals game 6 against Jabbar in the 4th Q. Wow! Wilt just dominated Jabbar. So many stories I could tell.... Artis Gilmore was a Wilt look a like, 7'2" and just as big(weight), ok...he was black too. hehe Wilt just knocks him around in that All Star NBA/ABA game... and then you realize WIlt hardly ever used his massive frame and strength to push his way in like Shaq always did... Wilts game was finesse and quickness and leaping ability.... and even leading fast breaks in the early years!! Ok... nuff said!
MJ is legendary, and inspires us to be better. Wilt is mythical, and cautions us that no matter how much you try, there's a freak of nature out there that will whup your ass regardless.
@@areguapiri i think any all time great player can be put on a decent team and boost them to championship level. Bird was the Celtics, without him they werent winning anything. Same goes for Kobe, MJ, Shaq, Magic, etc. Wilt is basically Rudy Gobert size with Giannis type athleticism or better and had a killer instinct to prove he could do anything in the league, even leading the league in assists and getting over 50 rebounds on Bill Russell in a game. If a 43 year old Wilt was dominating James Worthy 1 on 1, a young Wilt would join a team today and get 50 pts every other night while also being the best defender on the court and dominating the paint while being stronger than even Steven Adams and having a 45+ inch vertical at 7'1 and a 7'8 wingspan i say he takes any team in today's league to an instant finals appearance every year without those dominant 60s celtics in the way
no you cant say that cause players today cant play a full 89 games or play 41 minutes a game 89 times like Wilt did. So how are they more physically fit today? The rule changes allowed players to do more. You have to take todays player and put them back in time and see how they would do with the rules that Wilt had to play with. Ask them to play 41 minutes a game and play all 89 games and see how productive they are.
Get this, the man shot free throws, jumped over the FT line, and DUNKED! All while in the air. The NBA made this illegal, they couldn't have Wilt dunking his free throws. Just think, every FT an NBA Slam Dunk contest winner.
@@laartwork I see what you are saying but why is Ali allowed to do that? Ali is beloved and rightly so,but he was an arrogant jerk to more than a few of his opponents early on. My grandpa played in a pickup game with Wilt at a resort in upstate New York in the Summer of 1958. He was 20 and Wilt was just going into his rookie year with the globetrotters. My grandpa is only 5'7" and managed to fake Wilt away with a pump fake and hit a jumper on him. According to him, Wilt looks at him and goes, "Nuh-uh." After that point, nobody but Wilt scored again for the whole game and his team won easily😂 My grandpa got a picture with him though, and has it to this day🧡
@@samuelogunlere6589 To be fair a lot of NBA(not the majority) could do the same exact thing. The difference between normal people and NBA players is insane. There was an exhibition game(older players usually don’t care much about them while younger players do) in which a rookie started trash talking Micheal Jordan right at the end of the first half. Micheal then went on to score 40 points in the second half when the rookie scored 0.
Bro javale mcGee is way more faster and way more athletic than wilt and they're about the same height, wilt is stronger than javale and that's it, their is nothing that wilt can do that javale can't
Humans have remained the same in 100 years and if you could see evolution work in such a short timeframe you wouldn't have people claiming it isn't proven today. No, even a thousand years ago we were basically undistinguishable, put a person from today in that era and develops the same way and the only difference is immunity and tolerance to some diseases, but in regards to how fast and athletic they are there won't be a noticeable difference. Tarmac, nutrition, training regimes, equipement, medicine, transportation, that's what's made the difference, so Javal traveling coach and wearing Converse wouldn't be any better at the game than Russell or Wilt.
Baseball will NEVER let you forget about Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky is hockey but when it comes to Wilt Chamberlain the NBA does this man a great disservice
Babe ruth is not regarded as the 'goat' or anything more than a guy that hit home runs and called his shot, while being fat. Gretzky was highly skilled. And a competitor that talked less and did more. Wilt is Babe ruth. And is regarded as such. This video shows very little filling the lane giving him layups, against 6'3 defenders. Wilt gets exactly the amount of credit he deserves. If he was 6'3 you wouldn't remember wilt at all.
@Iconic Props Babe Ruth is absolutely regarded as the goat. For you to reduce his abilities and historical significance to merely being fat and hitting home runs, only serves to display your ignorance.

Did you all know that Wilt Chamberlain never once fouled out of a game? Not once during his time in high school, college, and in the NBA. He never fouled out of a game ever.
Yeah, he was mobbed by the defense when they did manage to get to him in time, so he developed other shots other than the dunk. If one is even a casual b-ball fan, they should at least once in their lifetimes take a $15 basketball from Wal-Mart or Dick's Sporting Goods and go to their local park that has b-ball courts. Try hitting these shots -- even basic free throws. It's difficult. Plus chasing rebounds, running the court, dribbling, passing and receiving passes, etc.. He would dominate Shaq whether in the old era or the modern era.

That little backhand flip he did was a thing of beauty. To see how much finesse had played with to be so intimidating physically is amazing. Those hook shots he made looked like he was just bored. When you talk about NBA all time players, there is Wilt and everybody else fighting for second.
Before watching this I thought he had the numbers only because of the era he was in. Now I think he would still own it in this era. This guy is a monster
When you take into account size, strength, speed, quickness, and overall athleticism, Wilt was the greatest athlete ever created by god! He played in the era when sports was still just a seasonal pastime in america, instead of a year-round obsession and big-time business it is today. If Wilt had played in the bright lights of the modern NBA with its hero-worshiping sports media and fanbase, the likes of Michael Jordan and Lebron James would be afterthoughts. His athletic prowess was so legendary that you would had to have been there to believe it. Just think: 5...year in year out...insane! If you weren't around in his day and thus had no familiarity with his exploits - on and off the court - you'd have a hard time deciding which story about him was more believable: his stat line of 50 points/25 rebounds/48 minutes per game, or his having slept with over 20,000 women.
The most amazing stat in my opinion is that Wilt never fouled out of a game in his life in high school, college or the NBA, and he played all 48 minutes of every game in the NBA. He also blocked 27 shots in one game and had 55 rebounds in one game against Bill Russel.
Considerando la forma de marcar por lo que se ve en el video no eran tan férreas los defensas ,ves a los Bad Boys y otros equipos en los 80 te cagaban a trompadas era más físico la marca .
And Wilt picked out Stockton as the best point guard at the height of the Magic Johnson era. Since you can't separate Stockton from K. Malone, the ultimate starting five is 3/5 locked up. The other two are icing on the all time dominant cake.
Damn, say goodbye to reality. At the very minimum It would be a dream for both Wilt and Stockton. If you put Lebron and Malone in there there's quite literally nothing capable of stopping that offense. Especially if Stockton and Lebron alternate who initiates the pick and roll and with who other.
Dude literally played all 48 minutes like a track athlete. Ran the floor and moved more than anyone. Doesn’t compare to the condition of other big men.
Doesn't compare to any other player big or small, basketball or any other sport. 48 per game for an entire season, having to be the leading scorer, rebounder, shot blocker and sprinter from rim to rim is not fathomable! It is, by far, the single greatest record ever achieved in any physical competition of sports or games.
Wilt is the greatest 7 foot defensive center in NBA history. The late, great Harvey Pollack did keep track of blocked shots when Wilt played for the Warriors/76ers. And despite the 76ers in the 1980s later discarding a good number of those statistics that Pollack kept in his notebooks he estimated that the Big Dipper averaged 8-10 blocks a game during his prime years. In Chamberlain's last 2 seasons with the 76ers and his 5 years with the Lakers, sportswriters (e.g., UPI, AP, Sixer/Laker beat writers) were being more diligent about keeping track of blocked shots. This was especially the case in the playoffs. I’m glad to see people finally give Wilt more credit. Couple years ago people would scoff at you if you talked about just how insane wilt was athletically
Yea the more fans from that era die off the fewer naysayers will remain to point out to u fools who buy into the fiction of wilts goat status how uninformed and misguided u all are...wilt was a big part of the reason his team annually lost its final game even in college and the stats illustrate that fact...he averaged 30ppg for his reg season career yet only avgd 22.5 in playoff games...there is no more obvious of a reason for his team losing than the fact that he wasnt able to score at the same rate/pace as he did against inferior, less motivated reg season opponents. Even in 62 when he averaged 50ppg he then only avgd 35ppg in playoffs without compensating by increasing his apg avg...how was his team supposed to make up those 15ppg he stopped scoring? Yes the best team typically wins but mj and others have proven the best player can still dominate in a losing cause by averaging 40ppg against boston for 2postseasons in a row...wilt wasnt the best...russell was the better player...he played his best when it mattered most...wilt almost never did.
It's so fascinating watching how young him moves. It's so gazelle like. People say athletes get better with time but who in our era moves like that at his height? I think Giannis on some level, but still doesn't have Wilt coordination, grace or even super diverse skillset. I don't think time matters or necessarily means better athlete. Greats are greats. Thanks for posting this!
It's crazy how the young generation won't accept that there were athletes years ago that pocessd natural ability that was comparable or better than athletes today. Hmm I wonder if they feel they same about Einstein or Tesla to name a few, the only learn about Musk Gates or Besos What are schools teaching kids nowadays.
People also forget that these guys were running around in heavy leather chucks for the most part. Way harder to move around and stop on a dime without really messing up your ankles and knees. If a guy like Wilt were able to play in modern-day basketball shoes he would probably be moving around like prime David Robinson. Also, the dribbling rules were a lot more strict (couldn't even really put your hand on the side of the ball) and offensive fouls were called way more often. Otherwise, Wilt would basically be allowed to body everyone like Shaq did in the low-post.
I was able to watch Wilt at the Cow Palace when he played for the Warriors. In those days, fans were allowed to walk down to court level during warmups. So imagine a a 9 year old (me) walking up to Wilt. It was like looking up one of those giant redwood trees. Just amazing what he did during his career.
That turnaround fadeaway jumper is a nightmare to defend. And his speed from end-to-end is crazy for someone that size. And then he's stronger than you too. He was like a combination of Shaq and David Robinson.
@@MrALLSTAR26 My thoughts, also, since he was way before either. I think Wilt has a rental space in Shaq's head, to some degree, from a few things he has said on some interviews.
It’s a crime that wilt is widely known as “just a dunker”. He clearly was ahead of his time many more ways than just athleticism. Thanks for uploading!
People often ignore the fact that Wilt was an incredible shot. Nobody could ever stop his fade away jumper. Imo, he was the most dominant and most unstoppable player in the league’s history.
Shaq couldn't bank a shot to save his life. The nerve of Shaq to think that he ranks with the like of Wilt. Shaq only has a career because the refs let him get away with murder. What an insult to the great Wilt for Shaq to even be mentioned, compared to a guy who would have exposed Shaq for the scrub he was.
Damn, didn't know that Wilt's that good. Those fade aways are unstoppable even in todays NBA. Just a complete player. I honestly feels that he will dominate in any era.
Wouldn`t have been able to get that shot off in the modern NBA. He only turned over his right shoulder to shoot that shot and never really set it up. Guards would have been hunting the strip down low and big contesting up high.
@@BlahBlah-uh2yi In Wilt's day he couldn't bowl people over and hop step. I'm a Laker fan,but Shaq got away with more than any star ever. Imagine being 7'1 330 plus pounds, athletic, and allowing him to a 3 foot hop step from five feet away ..it's ridiculous.Yet he did it all the time in his prime.
Having maxed out Pogo Stick badges when nobody else even can unlock it lol. Look at his 2nd jumps, absolutely insane how fast he got back up off the ground
What impresses me even more is how quickly is the acceleration on the break. Look at 00:45....My mind just refused to believe and had to replay it like a dozen times to accept it was real...because the man was just too big to accelerate that fast in just a couple strides. Those strides are insane and remind a track and field sprinter
Had Wilt been born 3000 years ago and made it to Greece, he would have been described as a Zeus, Hermes, Helios ... A straight-forward description would have been seen forever afterward as wild exaggeration. We know of no other athlete ever like him.

Yes, I'm in disbelief looking at how agile and fluid he was in this video at that size. I'm a defensive minded player and one thing I'm noticing is he has tremendous control of the ball with one hand. This isn't just palming the ball. When he goes up to shoot it's almost like he knows exactly how much spin to put on the ball before the release. Most guys when they shoot they have to be in one motion and in rhythm. That slight pause before the release is everything, doesn't even matter the angle. Even if he were hit I don't think it would bother his shot. This guy is incredible.
Earl Monroe had that skill with two hands- he could show you the ball and move it around in the air. People do not realize how huge Wilt was- he looks thin in the videos, but he was ginormous.
Wilt is on my Mt Rushmore of Basketball and this is the most I have seen of his playing days and to do that stuff facing Bill Russel who is also on my Rushmore also.

There will never be another Wilt, an athletic giant. As an avid track and field athlete, Chamberlain high jumped 6 feet, 6 inches, ran the 440 yards in 49.0 seconds and the 880 yards in 1:58.3, put the shot 53 feet, 4 inches, and long jumped 22 feet. A 7'1" that can jump, and not just jump but really jump and also extremely strong.

I can see why he has the most points in a game. Those bank shots allowed him to basically shoot from any angle, plus his height and fade away it seems like it would be unstoppable even in todays game. Tim Duncan has been consistent with using he back board throughout his career, imagine Wilt.
Incredible strength and stamina played all 48 minutes like a gazellle never ran out of gas, miraculously never fouled out! Averaged 48 min a game one season. My favorite big man, there are some great clips of him from 60-66 that everyone who thinks they know what a big man can do - was done by Wilt. Legendary stories from past players really give creedence to the GOAT. RIP Wilt you were so damn good there is no way to erase you in history!
Fantastic footage.. Thank you for modernizing this 60 year old footage upscaled and in color. Helps others like myself further appreciate how revolutionary Wilt was. Just incredible.
That fade away in and around the lane would be unstoppable in any era. Incredible touch and finesse for such a large man. Shit, he would kill it today. On one frame 4 guys were hacking away at him and he still hit that fade away.
This is incredibly footage, thank you for sharing. Wilt was more than just a big guy that could dunk, he had grace, IQ and basketball skills. That off the backboard bank fade away takes a tremendoues amount skill and touch. Only a few in the modern era (such as Tim Duncan) have been able to master that shot with any consitency. That's not a shot you can hit just because your taller than everybody else.
You have people that go 'Oh, he was taller and bigger than everybody else, that's why he scored so much!' Ok, so using that premise, Both George Mueresan and Manute Bol should have wrecked the record books! Both were 7'7', Wilt was 7'1', he would have been great at 6'5". He was a GREAT player, period!!

I don’t understand that comment. Giant people with exceptional physical skills are definitely a rare phenomenon but not just a recent one. They’ve existed throughout history
I think Wilt's biggest adjustment to today's game would have been guarding players out to the 3 line. However, Wilt was very mobile for most of his career and could have guarded players out to the 3 point line well. Of course, Wilt would've been able to guard a few steps in from of the 3 because of his quickness and jumping ability. Back in the day Wilt would let players shoot while playing off them then get way up and swat the shot. That's part of the reason Wilt blocked so many shots and never fouled out!
He played beach volleyball, and he was great at that too. Saw him play several times when he playing with the Lakers. He'd play in tournaments in Manhattan Beach.
He was the greatest. Period. I remember watching him play my Bullets at the old Civic Center in Baltimore, when one of my favorites, Wes Unseld was a Rookie.
Bro look who he played against. The era of basketball is 95% un-athletic white guys. They can't cover him. If he played in the 90s, he would've been just another tall guy getting handled by Shaq.
In 1968, Wilt is the only player to have recorded a quintuple double: 53 points, 32 rebounds, 14 assists, 24 blocks, 11 steals, according to the game statistician. Name another player capable of putting up numbers like these in a single game. I won’t hold my breath..

I saw Wilt play in a preseason double-header in Seattle in the late 1960s when he was beyond hid prime. After playing in the first game he came sat in the stands to watch the second game. Damn you old!!
We didn't know because his STANDARDS were too high to reach !
The most amazing stat in my opinion is that Wilt never fouled out of a game in his life in high school, college or the NBA, and he played all 48 minutes of every game in the NBA.
He also blocked 27 shots in one game and had 55 rebounds in one game against Bill Russel.
...he also blocked Lew Alcindor's sky hook more than once ...which tells you the level of athleticism he had on defense...which was incredible!...

And he did that in the most trash court shoes.

The G.O.A.T. he's also unofficially the true triple double king, with approximately 600 to 700 triple doubles.
Wilt also has the most 20-20-20 games in NBA history along with his countless other triple-double and quadruple records.
Examples include...
1967 PLAYOFFS 21.7 PTS 29.1 REBS 9.0 ASTS 9.2 BLKS FG% 57.9
1968 PLAYOFFS 23.7 PTS 24.7 REBS 6.5 ASTS 9.7 BLKS FG% 53.4

This video is a real treasure for younger people like us that didn't have the privilege of watching him play. I've heard the stories, and I often see his name placed amongst NBA royalty, but seeing him alive and in color brings his legend to life!
1:43 he faked that pass so good I fell for it. Arms crazy long
He just didn’t hang on the rim back then cuz he would have broken them all. That makes his dunks look a bit more passive. In todays game? He would have made SHAQ look passive!

He's actually ducking to avoiding hitting it. And... at the same moment, he's reaching his arm around to the front of the basket and slam dunking.
For sure. I’m guessing 95% of us watching this were born long after Wilt retires. I’d never believe any of the stories I’ve heard if it wasn’t for the footage like this that I’m seeing
I’m glad to see people finally give Wilt more credit. Couple years ago people would scoff at you if you talked about just how insane wilt was athletically
AI man. It's going to restore a lot of previously indiscernible footage
@@patrickmurphy3308 crazy thing is, Wilt was taller and bigger than Giannis lol.
Wilt was a physical anomaly.
Wilt ,in his prime was the most dominating player ever.If he played today,he would rule the court.
Amazing footage. If it wasn’t for the Celtics dynasty he would be the undisputed GOAT in all of NBA history
I was able to watch Wilt at the Cow Palace when he played for the Warriors. In those days, fans were allowed to walk down to court level during warmups. I don’t understand that comment. Giant people with exceptional physical skills are definitely a rare phenomenon but not just a recent one. They’ve existed throughout history
Love it the the Curry quote about the 3pt line 😆
Imagine Wilt playing with today’s spacing
I think Wilt's biggest adjustment to today's game would have been guarding players out to the 3 line. However, Wilt was very mobile for most of his career and could have guarded players out to the 3 point line well. Of course, Wilt would've been able to guard a few steps in from of the 3 because of his quickness and jumping ability. Back in the day Wilt would let players shoot while playing off them then get way up and swat the shot. That's part of the reason Wilt blocked so many shots and never fouled out!
Wilt had a great hook shot outside
@@jackson5781 Wilt's hook was unblockable too.
Yea he would do better today than he would have in the 90’s.
Wilt would be hitting hook shots from the 3pt line. It's so nuts to even say that but there's film of him hitting some.
He wasn't just tall he was incredible strong bench pressing 500 lbs. He ran track, did the long jump, and threw the shot put. Absolutely amazing man.
He played beach volleyball, and he was great at that too. Saw him play several times when he playing with the Lakers. He'd play in tournaments in Manhattan Beach.
Only Hercules and Samson could compare to Wilt. And off course Conan the Barbarian Governator.
@@marcelopimentel3690 and Gilgamesh
His track feats are in newspaper achieves and some amazing basketball photos. Like his head all the way above the rim.
600lbs
He was the greatest. Period. I remember watching him play my Bullets at the old Civic Center in Baltimore, when one of my favorites, Wes Unseld was a Rookie.
Wes was one of my all time favs.... Loved how he hit the boards and his workman attitude ..he and the Pearl were just great!!
55 rebounds in a game, 50 points per game, 100 points in one game... man this man was unbelievable .
Dame 71 better
@@scuffededdy5578 no way:: 100 points; 50; 44 points average etc etc wilt : wilt block jabber skyhook hook shot few times etc etc
Bro look who he played against. The era of basketball is 95% un-athletic white guys. They can't cover him. If he played in the 90s, he would've been just another tall guy getting handled by Shaq.
His scoring never won his teams championships
Wilt was unstoppable in the low post 📫; areas ;; around the 🧺 basket to score points
In 1968, Wilt is the only player to have recorded a quintuple double: 53 points, 32 rebounds, 14 assists, 24 blocks, 11 steals, according to the game statistician. Name another player capable of putting up numbers like these in a single game. I won’t hold my breath..
MJ would average 100 ppg on %100 FG and 3p against plumbers lol.
@Ethan Hill Most of the players came to nba and played like 2-3 years and retired in Wilt era lol.
There were more Big men in that era too.
@@alp6675 go back and look at how many hall of famers there are from that era and you'll think 2x
@@jackson5781 They are hall of famers only in plumber era.
