I was young, strong and the best choice to guard him as I had guarded many big NBA and ex players He was the strongest human I have ever played against, impossible to stop if he desired to go to the basket He complimented my effort and defense and invited me to play with him on his beach volleyball team for a pick up game. I did and that power was present spiking a volleyball as well, Lol A very nice and respectful man that changed a young man’s game and gave him a great memory All this was in the 70’s in L.A.

You always hear about the legend of Wilt Chamberlain but this is the first time I've really seen footage of him playing. He's a massive specimen but his moves look so smooth. I wish we had some quality footage of some of his NBA games. Thanks for putting this together it's quite amazing to see.
When you watch high quality footage like this it makes you understand that Wilt is the greatest individual player ever and it's not close. Mike is obviously the GOAT as far as leading a team and winning championships. But for raw individual dominance it's Wilt all the way. There are also clips of Wilt blocking Kareem's sky hook despite being 10 years older, and clips of him reaching the top of the backboard (about 13 feet in the air). Talent that would be mythical if it wasn't on film.
Connie Hawkins talked about Wilt in a playground league game in NYC. Hawk had a young baller named "Jumpin'" Tony Jackson that could leap so high, he could pluck coins from the top of the backboard. So early in the game Hawk's coach suggested he block one of Wilt's hook shots so he did. Everyone was stunned, it was goaltending but even the ref didn't call it because no one had seen anything like that before. It infuriated Wilt who promptly came down on the next possession and slam dunked the ball so hard it bounced as high as the backboard. It had been a close game to that point but once Wilt took over, it was done for Hawk's team. They broke Rule #1: Never piss off Wilt Chamberlain.

You always hear about the legend of Wilt Chamberlain but this is the first time I've really seen footage of him playing. He's a massive specimen but his moves look so smooth. I wish we had some quality footage of some of his NBA games. Thanks for putting this together it's quite amazing to see.

When you watch high quality footage like this it makes you understand that Wilt is the greatest individual player ever and it's not close. Mike is obviously the GOAT as far as leading a team and winning championships. But for raw individual dominance it's Wilt all the way. There are also clips of Wilt blocking Kareem's sky hook despite being 10 years older, and clips of him reaching the top of the backboard (about 13 feet in the air). Talent that would be mythical if it wasn't on film.
Connie Hawkins talked about Wilt in a playground league game in NYC. Hawk had a young baller named "Jumpin'" Tony Jackson that could leap so high, he could pluck coins from the top of the backboard. So early in the game Hawk's coach suggested he block one of Wilt's hook shots so he did. Everyone was stunned, it was goaltending but even the ref didn't call it because no one had seen anything like that before.
It infuriated Wilt who promptly came down on the next possession and slam dunked the ball so hard it bounced as high as the backboard. It had been a close game to that point but once Wilt took over, it was done for Hawk's team. They broke Rule #1: Never piss off Wilt Chamberlain.

When Wilt was playing, he could never back down a player, do an aggressive drop step, or initiate contact when shooting, which limited what he could do, which is also why his moves are non-contact moves (fallaway, finger roll). So, to say no one thought either of these players were the greatest is untrue. I’m not saying I agree, but people who saw them play at the time held them in the highest regard. At the very least, in my view, they are both among the 15 greatest by virtue of their legacies and respect for what they did for the game in their day.
