I have autism and it's been really hard to find a blanket like this with a cheap price. I was also looking for a dinosaur one but they seem to be even more expensive. I'm so glad you made this tutorial. Keep doing what you're doing. Thank you and best wishes.
I'm just a ridiculously anxious 21 year old and my mum mentioned that I used to sleep with like 9 blankets for the weight, and I brought it up to my therapist who suggested a weighted blanket (and slyly hinted there was a good tutorial online as I'm not bad on a sewing machine because they can be expensive) so thank you very much!
I made a form of this but I used a single bed duvet/ bedsheet cover, only took me about 45 minutes because I already had the 3 seams sewn. All I had to do was sew the columns and rows and then stuff! (And stitch the bottom up obviously) Also saves you going out buying the fabric, I already had the cover in the house. Great vid thank you!
Tip: if you have any cakes of soap (bars, not liquid) they work very well for marking fabric. Darker soap for lighter colored fabrics and light colored soap for darker fabrics. Youe can easily cut thick shards off of the cake and its much cheaper than those markers.
Reminds me of the quilts we used to have on our beds when I was a child , I'm 82. I used to love wrapping a quilt around me in the winter. No central heating in those days.
This was fascinating. Looking at several videos I wondered why nobody sews/stuffs from the side of the blanket - rather than from the top/bottom. Seems like coming from the side would make the stuffing issue less difficult, as the pellets would be moved a shorter distance. Just the way I looked at it, I guess. I will probably be making one of these for myself - I've been sleeping under a stack of blankets and comforters for years - this looks like a great alternative.
I’m about to make my daughter on of these and I am SO glad you said this! Lol I was wondering why going from top to bottom but for some reason didn’t think to go from the side 🤦🏼♀️ sometimes I wonder about my life choices lol
After watching every video there is on RUclips about weighted blankets I always come back to yours. I personally like the puffy look that you get by adding the stuffing, especially for kids. I think maybe that the stuffing helps the beads to lay more evenly? in other words they're not all bunched up at the bottom of the pocket. I spent this afternoon making 3 small weighted blankets for dogs or cats. I plan on donating them to an auction fundraiser for one of the rescue groups I foster for. Thank you!
If you aren’t into doing all those measurements or don’t trust yourself to see straight, marking the line with painters tape and then sewing along the edge is crazy easy and comes out really well.
As one retired from nursing 15 years, I hadn't learned of such a blanket, until now. What a great tutorial from a loving aunt! FeeIing empowered, and I can make one for someone I know.
I think it would also be a great idea to just weigh down the four corners or all the outside squares for a beach blanket or for a picnic blanket. Love the music and the tutorial.
This is a great tutorial, thank you. I just made a weighted blanket for an adult but had difficulty with the top, your video helped. I used a long wrapping paper tube to full the pockets with pellets which worked amazingly well.
This looks great! I do a lot of quilting and I'd recommend adding a binding to the edge of your quilt as that will reinforce those seams and ensure even after years of wear and tear no polyfil will come out. You can either make it from your main fabrics, a contrasting fabric so it's part of the design, or you can just buy pre-made binding in the fabric section/store. If you wanted added texture on the blanket (without worrying about the polyfil stretching it out) to help with grounding during/after panic/anxiety attacks or melt downs you could buy either fabric or a throw with an interesting texture like minky, fleece, microfiber, etc and just baste the two pieces together with large temporary basting stiches (or pin it with safety pins) and then just treat it like you would a single layer quilt top and make the blanket as normal. By doubling up that top texture layer with the cotton you reinforce the structure of the weaker fabric so it can't warp. The "pocket" lines you'll stitch along the blanket are technically quilting so they will also reinforce your blanket top further so it doesn't warp or stretch as well as keeping the two top layers in place. Then just cut your basting stitches or remove the pins at the end. 💗
THANK YOU for this tutorial! I just made my first one - and it was HUUUUUUUUGE! 60" x 65" (it had 90 pockets!), 20 pounds, and one side was minky material! It took 14+ hours, but my daughter and I had a good time, making it together. I'm going to make a MUCH smaller one for my 5 year old Autistic niece, using ONLY cotton fabric! :) My husband and son want one for Christmas, too! Thank you for sharing all your links, for the pellets, and for making a tutorial that was easy to follow!
You rock! You're so welcome! These 14 hours are so worth it! Please feel free to come to our Facebook page facebook.com/iLoveHeartMyKids and show us your creation. We would LOVE to see your blanket. COngratulations!
Salamat po for this tutorial. I've been wanting ro make this. I'm new in sewing and I have a lot more to learn. Your video gives me so much sense and such tips you give is huge for a biginner like me! Thank you. Watched your video from Philippines 🇵🇭. Salamat po.
I have a thought... Use fiber layer between cloth layers. Maybe pour your poly pellets into (cheap dollar store) stockings stitch at your mark for pockets. Drop one into each row. When ready to stitch pin between each pocket ... No muss no fuss... Just a thought.
I knit pyramid shaped pillows, on one of the bottom edges I make a lip with decorative stitches, then before I close it up I stuff with stuffing and at the bottom some pellets that I’ve put into a piece of stockings. Once it’s all closed up you stick your iPad on there and go. It’s nice when you are reading
I love that zero stuffed animals were harmed 😂 and i appreciate the tips about keeping the pellets away from the needle, because it is really sad when they break. 🙂 thank you for the simple instructions and the positive mood. I'm excited to make one and confident that i can thanks to your lovely video🙂
Thank you so much! I think this is just what I need. It can't hurt. I adore your humor (no stuffed animals harmed...lol) and obvious loving spirit. It may take me a while to get the batting, pellets, and etc and do the work, but I will let you know how it works out. God bless you! 🤗💗
Thank you so much! Good luck to you.. If you ever make the blanket, Please feel free to post your photos to our Facebook page facebook.com/iLoveHeartMyKids
Thank You SO MUCH! I have neuropathy and arthritis and when I lay down to sleep at night my legs have such pain I'm in tears! Friends have told me to try a weighted blanket! My Aunt with severe dementia has one and it stops her from screaming. I'm a Nurse for Pediatric Patients and will also pass this on!!!! Beverly, Upstate New York 😘
Ms Felder, I have fibromyalgia and restless legs syndrome and sometimes I wake up and cannot keep my legs still because of the pain. As you are a nurse, you may be aware that there is a medication specifically for this condition. My pain management dr recently prescribed it for me and it has made a tremendous difference! I don't have to take it regularly but she said that I could. I was also recently researching some other medications and happened to read that Gabapentin or Neurotin is also sometimes prescribed specifically for RLS. You might want to do some research and discuss with your dr to see if this could possibly help your legs. This may not be an option for you but would be worth looking into. My youngest daughter is an RN in a Pediatric Cardiology ICU in a major Medical University. My oldest daughter has anxiety and PTSD and the weighted blankets are very helpful! I'm glad to see this tutorial as I love to sew and will be making some of these. As a child, my room was cold and my parents would pile several quilts on us to stay warm. The weight of the quilts were very comforting.
You should totally do sleep story reading videos! The moment I turned on your video I was stunned by how soothing and calming your voice is. This was a great tutorial, you make it look easy! I'm very tempted to try to make one myself. I bought a 15 pound one that half the seams busted the first week, so I returned it and upgraded with a Pine & River 20 pound and I like it but I need more weight. I love that you only put the pellets in the middle, that's a great idea. Thanks so much!!
I wondered why these are so expensive, even before they became a CRAZE. But now I see that they are detailed and time consuming. Makes sense. Good thing I don’t have any financial value since I’m a stay at home chronically ill person. I am making one for my young grandson, I’m sure that he deals with autism. My daughter just won’t pursue it. He struggled in school and is in the third grade. He is the most wonderful child and deserves every wonderful thing!
If you see the blanket together across the middle of the columns you will have shorter columns and not need to stuff so far down. Then you will close the top and bottom the same. More manageable I think. You could alternate top and bottom rows as you start in the middle it will make the wright more even as you see and eliminate the center bulk while sewing faster. Less cumbersome all around
This is now my favorite tutorial. I'm wanting to make one for myself to help with anxiety. I laid down to watch this on New Years day. After last night, my son has been a sleep deprived tantrum nightmare all day. He laid down with me and within 5 mins, your voice had him sound asleep. I mean no offense by this and am grateful to find not only a project to do, but also a voice that lulls my kiddo to sleep. 😍
Jami Bryan this makes my day! I’m so glad my voice calmed him to sleep! I’d be happy to make a video that is specifically for calming kiddos and putting them to sleep if I knew what to say 😂 during it!
I have ocd, anxiety and depression, and very stressed out with coursework, and have been looking for a wighted blanket as i can only sleep with multiple blankets on me to be heavy but it gets really heavy. Im so glad i found this video!! Thank you ever so much!
@@blippyy4177 absolutely. To figure out the weight you need, it is 10% of your body weight. One size is for a twin bed and one is a little bigger. For me, I use it for 20-30 minutes at a time and it relieves a lot of the nerve pain. I have not experienced muscle cramps with mine.
@@sarahkelso5530 ..oh thank you. I used one that is way too heavy for me twice overnight and I woke up very weak. I think it's much more about relieving muscle tension and less about neurotransmitters....
Dear Daily Yum, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible video you shared on how to make weighted blankets. Your tutorial came into our lives at just the right time, and I can't thank you enough. Our 8-year-old daughter, who is on the autism spectrum, has been struggling with anxiety and sleep issues. We've heard about the benefits of weighted blankets, but purchasing one seemed out of reach for us. Your detailed instructions and clear demonstration have empowered us to create a customized weighted blanket for her. Your generosity and willingness to share your expertise have made a significant impact on our family. It means the world to us to be able to provide our daughter with the comfort and security she needs. Your video not only taught us a valuable skill but also gave us hope and inspiration. Please know that your kindness and thoughtfulness have made a tangible difference in our lives. We are forever grateful to you for using your platform to make a positive impact. The world needs more people like you who are willing to selflessly help others. Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are deeply appreciative of your contribution to our daughter's well-being and our family's happiness.
My daughter had this on her Christmas List.. Very expensive. Since I am a quilter, I thought I would look into making one. Looks very easy. Thank you for the Tutorial.
Thanks for your video. I've made several of them. Big help for me was to use a wrapping paper roll and stuck it down the columns to pour the pellets! 😊
I love that the little one for whom the blanket was being made got to pick out the (cotton) fabric he wanted. Kudos to the moms! Thanks for the inspiration! Your home-ec teacher would indeed be proud!
Thank you so much for providing this tutorial! I have been looking at weighted blankets for some of my clients. I am a Behavioral/Mental health Coordinator and I have many young children that have suffered from severe Trauma, as well as some of my teenagers. I do love to sew as it is therapeutic for me also, being in this line of work we need some self care for ourselves too and this would be great! can do my own self care while making something to help my precious Clients as we work through their Trauma and Anxieties. Thank you again so very very much!!!!
Your video really helped me. I have now started creating weighted blankets for kids with ptsd. As a donation but I could not have done it with out you.
I just wanted to thank you for this amazing tutorial!!!! I made a weighted blanket a year and half ago and it wasn't very good at all it was just a trial to see if my son would like it . Today we made a legit one for my son who has Sensory Processing Disorder and needs the input. This tutorial l and all the tips were SOOOOO helpful!!!! We were lost in the dark on how to start and rows, and columns until I found this gem of a video!!!!! Our blanket turned out AMAZING !!!!! My son is fast asleep with his new blankets!!! It looks so awesome and super professional we are just so happy and thankful to you for posting this video! I am now working on another blanket one for my other son ! Thank you again !
Thanks for sharing this video! You're a mom who sews and STILL found time to make this video. Lol. I am going to make one for my special needs sister. As you know these blankets are not cheap. Your video was very helpful. Thanks, again.
Sowing always has seemed so intimidating for me. But you explained it so we'll feel like I can do it! A lot of instructional videos don't explain it as well as you did. I feel confident it making a blanket and I won't have to glance at the instructions constantly. I have always slept with layers of blankets and my family never understood why, and now I can sleep peacefully without the heat.
What a wonderful tutorial. It is clear, direct, humorous at times, and easy to follow. Also your voice has a calming effect. I am now going to make one for my three year old grandson. Thank you so muck.
Yes I would love one of these. I am on the autism spectrum and I have anxiety. It would be a blessing to get one. I am willing to pay whatever it cost.
This is so helpful! My 2.5 year old SPD son uses one and I want to learn to make them.so badly because as he grows it's expensive to replace the old one! This was the best video I have found yet!
I wish I had a sewing machine and no arthritis. 😉 seriously, I would be so happy to try these type of blanket but yeah as you said expensive and don’t have any friends or family left. But I’m glad others can be blessed with them by people like yourself. You are a WONDERFUL person clearly!🌈
I Love My Kids Hi ty for replying, you are incredibly sweet! Love your sewing. Yes, I wish I could figure out how to get one. I just don’t live someplace that it’s realistic sadly. But yeah, can’t afford a machine and nobody to borrow from or help me to begin with. Lol sounds so sad writing this...... I live in middle Canada 🇨🇦 if that makes sense lol so shipping and everything from the states is unreal on top of the exchange and taxes. Makes me actually super sad. I don’t know any other people my age that have adult autism so I’m the only one of me I know. My insomnia is so bad that I hallucinate and have grand mal seizures from lack of sleep, by 48 hrs I start getting really bad and depressed and I go 92 hrs with maybe a couple cat naps of 20-40 mins which I wake up in panic shaking and sweating. It’s pretty bad. Sorry hun I didn’t mean to share all this yuck 🤢 stuff but I just have been sick now and wheelchair and home bound since my stroke. So RUclips is MY ESCAPE SO I LIKE TO WATCH VIDEOS LIKE YOURS AND THANK YOU Jesus meet nice people like you. Thank you again for the reply and kindness♥️♥️🌈🌈🌻🌻🌟🌟 Hope things with you are well and your week ahead now is a good one! Peace ☮️ and loves 💗
really nice I want to make something smaller so a student can hold it for comfort. I have not realy sewn for a long time but this gives me a little boost. I wish some could start a team to get a team together to make the weighted blankets they are so needed. I will try to see how my little project goes and then try a blanket thank you so much for all the great tips. experience is the best teacher
This is a wonderful tutorial. I'm planning a blanket for my 21-yr old grandson who suffers with bouts of anxiety. I've watched several tutorials and have truly gotten the best info from yours. I wanted to fill the pockets with softness as you did and this process is perfect. Thanks so much
My son has a spectrum disorder and my mom got him a weighted blanket and he loves it. I wish we seen this before but would always be good for an extra one for him.
I'm making a weighted pillow with a faux fur cover to mimic my cat. I'm autistic and my cat has been my emotional support animal for years, but he can't leave the house, and so my diagnosing psychiatrist suggested the pillow as a substitute. I'm using cotton muslin and glass beads to make the weighted sections. I'm going to sew those onto my pillow form. Then I'm going to sew covers made from a few different fabrics that I like the feel of. Fabric textures are a big deal when it comes to my sensory issues. My dad bought me a big weighted blanket years ago, but all the weight shifted to the outer portions, but I think I can fix it myself now.
Excellent video!! Thankyou very much!!! I've been asked for one of those blankets, but I didn't know that they were that useful, so you convinced me to make one for me too!!! I believe that it will help me to sleep better. ❤
My hubby bought me a 48"×72" blanket with 20#weight. I have anxiety, depression, insomnia probably due to chronic pain (fibromyalgia) Menieres Disease (helps to have something on me when vertigo hits). However, the 10% weight almost seems too much. I only used it 3 nights due to weight causing increased anxiety and it pushes my feet down causing foot and ankle pain. Do you think 15# would be better or she we go less? I have times when clothes hurt so wondering if I can even use :(.
Thank you so much for this DIY video! I followed your instructions and made one the same size for my son. We had a heck of a time lining up the fabric though since we used minky for one side. Cotton on both sides would definitely be easier.
Minky is tricky to sew on! But hey, you did it and any blanket you make from now on will be easy as pie! ;) You are so welcome, I am glad the video helped! We just posted a video on how to make a weighted vest too! check it out!
This is my first time watching your blog & I liked what you saw. Just one request : if you put a lot up for us to read in one frame, give us 3 or 4 seconds longer to read it. Thanks so much, Rachelle M.
I sew too; I can not wait to make this for my 1years old girl and 5years old boy. My son love dinosaurs 🦕 And it’s very hard finding the pattern online with this kinda of blanket. I will share the photos once’s I’m done. Thanks you so much for tutorial❤️
Good luck on your project and we can not wait to see you photos. Please feel free to post your photos to our Facebook page facebook.com/iLoveHeartMyKids
Now that weighted blankets are ao popular... explains why i have alwaus slept better with multiple blankets and comforters always loved the weight more than a need for warmthm. I really like the stocking packet idea. ? How well do these wash? Does the poly fill bunch up with washings? Or is regular quilt batting more stable?
I wish I could have a few of these blanket. I have teen boy's that are special needs and I don't have a sewing machine or the skills to sell one. We live on a fixed income. This would be a great Christmas present for them. Thank you for your video.
One, your tips and tricks are super-thorough, which is great 😋 Two, the little comments you added to the video are hysterical! Totally been that mom hiding from her kids😂😂
Strongly suggest using an overlock machine. You'll get much stronger seems and tighter closure so the beads don't shift from pocket to pocket over time. You should weight the sides of the blanket as it is important to tuck the blanket in for a secure wrapped feeling especially if this is for Autism or AD.
This is great tutorial, everything is explained clearly, not to much talking. . Perfect! Except that motion sickness 😂. Just kidding. Thank you so much, I am going to make one this afternoon.
I have grandsons, this age. They’re extremely helpful. I set a tool down and it’s put away, sometimes, never to be seen again. I wouldn’t change a thing (except, their parents replacing all the tools, pens, pencils, books, shoes, dog toys, pots, pans, broken/lost. Never mind. I don’t want them moving back home😉😉🤪🤪). I love my grandsons!!
My blanket would be six ft long , and weigh twenty pounds . Would it be okay to make two three ft blankets , then sew the two blankets together ? Wouldn't you also want weight to cover your sides as well ?
I relax best when i have a weight on my chest but get more anxious when my legs feel trapped? So i think I'm gonna try this out with an old pillow case! My parents kept my favorite bedding (pillow and blanket case?) From when i was little and the soft worn fabric really comforts me so i think that'll help even more. Thanks for the great tutorial, I'm really excited to try it out! :)
@@blippyy4177 sure! I ended up finishing the pillow case and sometimes it helps but sometimes it doesn't? It's a bit of hit or miss but when it helps it helps a lot! For the technical part, it was a little tricky to sew shut the little pockets since the beads i used to weight it down kept slipping out. I ended up asking my dad for help. He managed with a bit of luck and using a sturdy ruler to keep the beads back/down! Happy new year, friend, if you try this i hope it helps you!
@@mikeyjoshua1846 ..thank you! Someone once told me that if a person is having an asthma attack it helps to put a lay down and put a chihuahua on their chest. I didn't know why at tht time but now I know. The outside musculature pulls energy off the internal musculature and relaxes the inside. Also I have learned that chest anxiety is from blood vessel tension from the chest. Brain panic is from brain blood vessel tension. (Blood vessels are tubular muscles). I wonder if wearing a weighted back pack on the front of you (walking around with it) would help you. What do you think? And happy new year to you too.
@@blippyy4177 hmm it could help! I know i like it when my sister's cat sprawls over the back of my neck and over my shoulders? So maybe a kinda longer weighted pad would be nice to carry over the shoulders! It's different for everyone and i haven't really had much experience with weight stims so far so I'm still figuring things out!
@@blippyy4177 seizures are a response of nerves, not blood vessels. The blankets work to calm the child in general during a stressful day. They are not used during a seizure.
Just made my sons, he LOVES it. He kept saying thank you, thanks mama, thank you so much, I love it! I made his with minky though because he has sensory sensitivity and his favorite blanket and only one he likes is this material. My columns and rows aren't perfect, but he loves it anyways. Now to see if it will help him sleep🤞 Thank you for this tutorial, especially for adding the math equations, I'm awful with math!
This is the best tutorial I've seen so far. Thank you so much. I look forward to making one myself :) love the added funny comments on the video lol xx
Maybe I need one myself. Since hitting 52 & stress of losing my mum in lucky if I get 4 hours sleep. Most nights I'm awake at 3am. Lavender helps but this may be better.
I make these everyday all day for people.. I see you don't use a batting in between for stability otherwise I found it made the blanket very flimsy. Tailors chalk works great as well as side walk chalk then when finished take a damp paper towel and dab the chalk lines comes off great
Fuzzypups 1 second ago im hoping you might be willing to help me out. My mom & I tried making one of these. turned out wonderful except that we cant fig out what went wrong. My mother is great with math. our finished product was 40x39. we ended up with 16 squares 10x 9.25. We wanted the weight to be 7.5#. 1 lb = 16oz, so we took 16x7.5# and got 120 total ounces for the project. since there were 16 squares, we divided 120 by 16 and came up with weight of 7.5 oz pr square. There are 8 ounces in 1 cup so we put just shy of 1 cup of pellets in ea picket. this is all correct math & we were very careful to measure out for the pellets. so cant fig out why the blanket ended up 6.2 lbs instead of 7.5 lbs. we used fleece as well instead of cotton because my son is very sensitive to soft materials.
Your math looks correct except it seems you mistook the 7.5 oz of WEIGHT for 7.5 oz of VOLUME...2 different things. In the final step, use a scale to first weigh 7.5 oz of pellets (be sure to consider the weight of your measuring cup) and then from that amount you can determine the volume for each square. Hope that helps!
I made two blankets and had a couple of construction suggestions to make handling the pellets a little easier and faster. I would suggest to make tubes out of some lightweight fabric, then filling with batting and beads as you sew squares into the tube. then when you make your top and back, sew channels and leave both ends open. pull the tubes through and then finish the ends. this way the tubes have the number of squares you want, but the cover only has the channel stitching. This would make construction easier because you don't have to wrestle with the blanket under the sewing machine needle when it is bulky with filling, only the ends. Anyway, just a suggestion.
I have autism and it's been really hard to find a blanket like this with a cheap price. I was also looking for a dinosaur one but they seem to be even more expensive. I'm so glad you made this tutorial. Keep doing what you're doing. Thank you and best wishes.

I use it on my shirts too when I’m in a hurry! 🤫 shh don’t tell anyone 😂
@@sherrynawab5790 Funny! very resourceful!
I have a thought... Use fiber layer between cloth layers. Maybe pour your poly pellets into (cheap dollar store) stockings stitch at your mark for pockets. Drop one into each row. When ready to stitch pin between each pocket ... No muss no fuss... Just a thought.
Great suggestion!!! That would alleviate the pellets getting under the needle.
Also it would stop them from bunching into the corners. Now , who's old tights can I pilfer!?
Walmart has knee-highs for 50¢ a pair
I use the hose to put weighted pellets inside the tablet holder pillows I knit
This is one of the best videos. So detailed lots of pics, no mindless fast forward speed sewing. Great voice. Plus humor.
Thank you so much! This is amazing to hear and so glad if the vid is helpful
You're welcome Beverly! Glad this was helpful! Thank you very much for passing this on ~ Cj
You're very welcome. I'm glad the tutorial is useful and thank you for complementing my soothing voice :) ~ Cj
He deserves every wonderful thing, this is for sure. Good luck making one for your grandson!
But then you have to top stitch 2 sides instead of one
Great tip!!! I much rather finish two edges with shorter columns. Thanks 🤗
@@kimmc3055 If you top stitch the sides as well, then all four sides will be topstitched and it'll be consistent.
This is one of the most easiest duvet tutorials I have ever seen
I have ocd, anxiety and depression, and very stressed out with coursework, and have been looking for a wighted blanket as i can only sleep with multiple blankets on me to be heavy but it gets really heavy. Im so glad i found this video!! Thank you ever so much!
Glad the weighted blanket is helping you and you found this tutorial helpful. Today we just published a brand new tutorial for a weighted vest.
Weighted blankets have helped my pain levels from Fibromyalgia. Thank you.
That is excellent to know!
..can I ask what weight and size blanket you used? Thank you. And has it ever been too heavy for you that your muscles cramped up even more?
@@blippyy4177 absolutely. To figure out the weight you need, it is 10% of your body weight.
One size is for a twin bed and one is a little bigger.
For me, I use it for 20-30 minutes at a time and it relieves a lot of the nerve pain. I have not experienced muscle cramps with mine.
@@sarahkelso5530 ..oh thank you. I used one that is way too heavy for me twice overnight and I woke up very weak. I think it's much more about relieving muscle tension and less about neurotransmitters....
Dear Daily Yum,
I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible video you shared on how to make weighted blankets.
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful ~ Cj
Quilting is not my expertise...but I have made one of these as a rag quilt and it turned out SO cute!!
MM66 awwww thank you! My home ec teacher was tough to impress, maybe I should send her this video! 😬
You're welcome! Glad you found it useful. Feel free to post a photo on our facebook page or message if you have any questions
Thanks for sharing this video! You're a mom who sews and STILL found time to make this video. Lol. I am going to make one for my special needs sister. As you know these blankets are not cheap. Your video was very helpful. Thanks, again.
Ana Crespo thank you! :)
So glad it was helpful. Good luck on your project!
This is one of the best videos I have every seen. You were clear, concise. I understood everything you said. I can make this.
finally made clear the math portion for me who has a problem with math. thanks so much. I need to make one for my daughter and her dog.
What a wonderful tutorial. It is clear, direct, humorous at times, and easy to follow. Also your voice has a calming effect. I am now going to make one for my three year old grandson. Thank you so muck.
Thank you very much for your kind words! ~ Cj.
I had read the old blog post and pinned it ages ago. but now I'm ready to sew it...I was thrilled to see you had a video. good one! thanks a bunch.
Yes I would love one of these. I am on the autism spectrum and I have anxiety. It would be a blessing to get one. I am willing to pay whatever it cost.
This is a good option. amzn.to/2GVA44O Good luck!

This is a very good blog!! I love how sweet you presented it! I love that there is written and video instructions!! TY
My son has a spectrum disorder and my mom got him a weighted blanket and he loves it. I wish we seen this before but would always be good for an extra one for him.
meganrose I’m so glad the weighted blanket helps him!
Thank you for taking the time to do this and share it.
Good for you! I don't have time to make one. I bought one made in the USA and it was worth it.
Becky Artist I hear you sometimes it’s all about what’s more important time or money.
This was the best tutorial. it was clear and concise. THANK YOU!
Thank you for posting! I'm going to make one for myself and if it goes as planned, I'll make one for my mom too!

Now that weighted blankets are ao popular... explains why i have alwaus slept better with multiple blankets and comforters always loved the weight more than a need for warmthm. I really like the stocking packet idea. ? How well do these wash? Does the poly fill bunch up with washings? Or is regular quilt batting more stable?
quilt batting is more stable. But I haven’t had a bunching problem. You can see in a sheet of batting to prevent bunching if you’d like.
“...No stuffed animals were harmed in the making of this video.” 😂👍🏼 Loved your sewing MIRACLE! It truly was!

What a lovely tutorial! Thank you, I'm not so afraid to try this!
Strongly suggest using an overlock machine. You'll get much stronger seems and tighter closure so the beads don't shift from pocket to pocket over time. You should weight the sides of the blanket as it is important to tuck the blanket in for a secure wrapped feeling especially if this is for Autism or AD.
I never heard of poly pellets! Thank you.

Thanks so much ! I'm not so great at sewing but you made it look totally doable. Wish me luck!
GOOD luck! let us know how it goes!
..can I ask how it worked out for you? Thank u!
I’m an RN. I’ve seen these used for kids with seizure disorders too.
How does it help them? Are the brain blood vessels less irritated?
@@blippyy4177 it seems to help some of the kids. Seizures are not from brain blood vessels-that would be a stroke.
@@blackfeathercrafts ..yes but the weighted blanket drains energy off the brain blood vessels. How else does the weighted blankets work for seizures?
@@blippyy4177 seizures are a response of nerves, not blood vessels.
The blankets work to calm the child in general during a stressful day. They are not used during a seizure.
I am 20years old and have autism and I made a weighted blanket myself with instructions from my mom. Oh my goodness it is heaven to sleep now😀
I am so glad it is helping!
..can I ask how it helps you to sleep? Does it remove tension off the brain because your muscles are tensing up?
blippyy yes, I always want heavy blankets because it relaxes me
@@nathanielaranda8407 ..is that because it drains your excess energy from your skeletal muscles?

Just made my sons, he LOVES it. He kept saying thank you, thanks mama, thank you so much, I love it! I made his with minky though because he has sensory sensitivity and his favorite blanket and only one he likes is this material. My columns and rows aren't perfect, but he loves it anyways. Now to see if it will help him sleep🤞

This is the best tutorial I've seen so far. Thank you so much. I look forward to making one myself :) love the added funny comments on the video lol xx
Nicole Smith thank you!
Wonderful tutorial! So easy to follow, however to find the weight of the pellets, the math should be 56/28 which equals 2 oz., not 28/56.
good catch, thank you!
Maybe I need one myself. Since hitting 52 & stress of losing my mum in lucky if I get 4 hours sleep. Most nights I'm awake at 3am. Lavender helps but this may be better.
So sorry about your mom and stress. This could help... Good luck if you're going to make it or purchase it... either way wont hurt to try
Elizabeth Taylor you’re not alone. Missing my mom too since September.
You could spritz the blanket (after you make it) with a lavendar spray.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank god for the metric system.
This is a great tutorial. Clear helpful instructions. Good advice and tips.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed and it was helpful
This video was amazing and so so helpful ty so much for making it
Loved the tips and the zero stuffed animals were harmed...!!!!😂
I make these everyday all day for people.. I see you don't use a batting in between for stability otherwise I found it made the blanket very flimsy. Tailors chalk works great as well as side walk chalk then when finished take a damp paper towel and dab the chalk lines comes off great

im hoping you might be willing to help me out.
Wow! Fantastic suggestion! Thank you
You played bobbin chicken and won! Good on you!
You make it look easy. One day I hope to have time to do something like this.
SINternet Entertainment you can totally do it! Everyone that has made one is surprised how easy it really is!
