- (29 Mar 2017) Pop icon George Michael has been laid to rest, his family have confirmed.
In a statement, the star's relatives said:
"We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today. Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved Son, Brother and Friend."
"George Michael's family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support."
The ceremony was held at London's Highgate Cemetery on Wednesday.
Michael died of natural causes as the result of heart disease and a fatty liver on Christmas day 2016. He was 53.

According to the post-mortem, she died from diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication caused by lack of insulin and sky-high blood sugar. This is such a tragic story. George had two sisters, Melanie and Yioda. Melanie is the one who passed away on 25 December 2019. George and Melanie are outlived by their father and their sister, Yioda.

I paid my respects in Highgate . A sombre and very sad time.
People were respectful. Taking in the shocking and surreal scene laid before us. A Quiet and and eerie silence that permeated the air and surroundings. No one knew where to put their grief. It was overwhelming and surreal. So close and yet so far.
That day is etched in my memory for life and even now when I watch these videos it doesnt seem real.
I don't think I will ever understand how this beautiful man left us so soon.
My comfort is now that he is at least in a deep heavenly sleep. Healed , loved and is HOME , SAFE and truly loved with no more demons . He can truly be himself and free from all the pain and disillusionment of his experience on Earth.
Rest now my love. You are healed and have returned to the familiarity of home after your long journey to be wrapped in Angel's wings surrounded by unconditional love and protective ness. No judgements not falsehoods to battle again anymore. You're safe now.

On 1984, I got to meet him for the first time. he was so sweet and hot. I still remember the way he smelled, so gorgeous. I met him in London when he was walking down the street. I just got to say hi and ask questions. I hugged him one time.

@@amberbante9530my Uncle was a music photography in London from 70's to the early 90's not a pappa,but he saw George Michael,Boy George,The Pet Shop boys,Motörhead and the Sex Pistols on quite afew occasions and sat down with all of them on then a few them as well and he would listen but not document their stories so when Lemmie and George Michael died with in 12 months it affect him after for a year and to a point i think it does but he said the same thing as you especially girls and Women would be star struck by George and it made him very uncomfortable. Ps Amber love your Pic of She-ra since iam massive fan of the He-man and She-ra cartoons from the 80's since it's my childhood and just to end it amazes me how much George Michael is missed it's same as freddie or Elvis you get reminded of how special a person is when they are finally no longer with us.

2020...as if it were yesterday . It was right that his funeral was a private affair despite his legions of true fans who adored him truly, it was respectful that there was no intrusion , media circus and falsehoods being reported!
He was a truly private man and that was his choice and right and I for one respected that, afterall, he shared so much with us when he was happy and when he was struggling. I feel that this authentic soul with true integrity was only meant to grace this earth with his love and sincerity for a while . Listening to his poignant lyrics from the soul was just a real pleasure that those of fortunate to have been born during his era witnessed and were part of a truly magical and precious time . What saddens me the most is the fact that he really was a unique soul who understood the frailties within himself , flaws and demons- we will have all experienced at least at some point in our lives the pain of human our existence , it's how we learn.
George understood and tried, through his music to convey life's swings and roundabouts .
A Cancerian with the sensitivities we can relate to.
The shock and disbelief , to this day still resurfaces especially at this time of Year.

I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when I heard that George had passed away. I remember seeing the words George Michael and the tears just started flowing. I couldn't even read the rest of the message for the tears. Gorgeous George, I cried so much when I read on my cell that you had died. A part of my heart was gone. It was Xmas day (at night, Los Angeles time) & one of my brothers helped me stop crying. I listen to your CDs or utube every day & it still seems like yesterday even though this Xmas it will be 2 years. I sneaked out of my parents home to see WHAM! in concert long ago & when in London (many years after WHAM!) I remember so much of you that will never be told.
