I am not catholic but I find it so wonderful to see someone so sure of their faith to make this commitment.

I admire the nuns so much. must take someone so special to want to become a nun and recieve that kind of calling from god to do so!! I certainly couldn't do what they do!!

Do a web search, look for "Order of St. Benedict" or "I want to be a Benedictine Nun"
You can find a Benedictine order and study with them as a candidate and find out if you have a Vocation, that is like a calling from God to be one.

This is so beautiful, just amazing. Just one question somewhere in the title or describtion it says that the sisters are benedictines but in the video we see sisters who look franciscan, so what are they now? I hope this is not a stupid question, i simply saw franciscan cinctures in the video and was confused.

A Franciscan was the matron of her Benedictine sister for the ceremony.

Actually I didn't know if in Western country the religious life is still existing. I thought it has remained to us Africans but I thank God for His calling through out the world. One of the challenge we have in East Africa the young ladies need to join a broad congregation so please when you put this in RUclips you also put your address for the girls who will need to join you. Should it not be the reverand Mother who does the cutting of the hair and the placement of the veil. In every other investiture I have ever seen, it is never the male of the church who does this. I find it rather odd.

Creepy image of young women with their heads in the lap of an older priest. I respect their choice to become nuns. Why not let them cut their own hair? They aren't pledging themselves to those priests.
@@cosettecoleslaw It's not an older priest, it's their bishop following the original form of the ceremony dating back to christian antiquity. Maybe the splendor of tradition is creepy to some people.
Every congregation has a different ceremonial. I was a Benedictine nun and we cut our own hair the night before the Clothing. It was very exciting and I was so glad to do it. No bride having her hair done for her wedding could be happier.
Why cut their hair?
It is a sign of their consecration to God, since most women prize their hair.
As well as turning away from vanity, it's time saving and comfort. They don't have to spend a lot of time brushing, washing and drying their hair. Believe it or not, they're too busy to waste time on hair! Every minute of their day is already accounted for, time taken on hair would have to come out of the time allotted for sleep. Long hair (over a few inches) also scrunches up underneath the cap and veil and isn't comfortable.

Or seen the movie? It is only a bit of the book, but most movies based on books rarely do them full justice. Still, it is not a bad film.
In the 'Sound of Music' film and story, Maria was a Benedictine postulant or, as some might call an aspirant to the order. They were also cloistered. Even among most religious orders, some are active as teachers, nurses, case managers, etc. but the contemplatives busy themselves behind the cloister besides being in prayer. St Benedict and sister, St Scholastica, encouraged their members to make use of their talents in aiding in the mainstay of their monastery or convent. Some turn to art work, making altar linens and vestments, make beer, wine, farming, etc. while observing their vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and, in some orders, stability. Some mainstream Protestant denominations have created some religious orders modeled in the selfsame way as some Catholic and/or Eastern Orthodox monks and nuns do, although some have changed the names of some them to meet certain standards. As an example, the Order of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration is a Catholic Order, but the Church of England have their own Order along similar lines called, Poor Clares of Reparation, also a contemplative community, among others. Some of their orders are also active in the world and others living a contemplative life of prayer and solitude. The motto of the Benedictines is 'Pray and Work'. When St Benedict wrote his Rule (over 1900 yrs ago), the first line is, "Listen, my children, and be attentive to the Voice speaking to your heart...." In the contemplative orders, they usually have an extern sister who acts as doorkeeper in receiving visitors, runs outside errands for the community (from trips to the grocery store to taking them to doctors' appointments, sometimes representing a loved one at a family gathering such as a funeral, wedding, etc.) because of the rules of enclosure like the Carmelites or Trappists. Postulancy period can last a few moths to even a few years before they start the next step as a novice. In the Eastern Orthodox tradition, novitiate among nuns can last as long as several years before the abbess herself thinks she's ready to take her final vows and contact with family and close friends are extremely limited, hence some are declared as being 'dead to the world' while living for Christ inside the convent. The abbess has absolute authority over the goings-on within convent walls and can even override an archbishop, do priestly duties such as hearing confessions and in the event of a shortage of clergy, it wasn't even uncommon for them to say Mass, visit the sick, bury the dead, offer spiritual counsel and in some secular affairs represent the are where her convent resides as a representative in town council meetings. Some even offered sanctuary and shelter to Jews, Gypsies and others from the Nazis and Communists during World War II at the risk of their own lives.
The Orthodox monks and nuns have no active ministry although St Elizabeth the Martyr (a sister of Empress Alexandra (wife of Nicholas II of Russia), following the death of her late husband, sold all her worldly possessions to the sick poor in Moscow and became a nun. She started an order of nursing nuns under the patronage of Sts Mary and Martha of Bethany, which still runs today with a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, pharmacy and clinic and job training center. Like her sister and her family, St Elizabeth was also killed by the Bolsheviks along with some of her fellow nuns as they were thrown into an old mine shaft with loads of dynamite. It didn't kill them right away, but some locals heard some women singing hymns while ministering to the wounded and dying in the shaft with them. Her body was later smuggled out of Russia and now lies inside the Cathedral of St Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem. She was canonized by the Eastern Orthodox Church years later and some Eastern Rite Catholics and some Protestants honored her too as a martyr of charity. In Pace Requiescat!
Cloistered religious has several meanings : it's a canonical status established by the Church, secondly, it refers to the absence of active missionary apostolate, thirdly, it refers to the enclosure of the nuns who do not leave their property. St. Therese is patroness of the foreign missions yet as a contemplative cloistered religious she never left her convent.

Good thing you aren’t the one entering this order. Every community has their own traditions. Some don’t make the hair cutting public. Others have the sisters do it, some the Mother and some, the Bishop
But the Bible 📖🍞says that the woman is Not to cut her hair short.
besides God gave the woman long hair when He created Eve from Adam.
The long hair is the girl's and women's veil covering for her head.
All nuns waisting God time , nuns no more tension about world, daily worship God , this is the work , my question ,why you all not received God gifts . Like healing , death person can arose, blind can see, many gifts , you all received ? 24 hours in church .
