    From a Hasidic (Ultra-orthodox) Jew, a beautiful life you sisters live. In Judaism we have no monks/nuns, for we are a Nation of priests, we all strive to live in the spirit of those who dedicate their lives to G-d. The daily prayers are very similar to our 3 daily prayers, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. I've always had a love for monks/nuns. Bless you all❤

      @@candacecassidy6784 it depends on which cloistered order. For example, the Discalced Carmelites retire at 10.30 p.m. and rise 4.30 a.m. or 5.10 a.m. Other orders probably 9.30 p.m. or 10.00/10.30/11.00 p,m. on average.
      The Trappists/Cistercians/ Carthusians retire very early and rise after midnight then have another 3 hours sleep before rising at 6 for Lauds , silent prayer then Mass etc. Theirs is much stricter than the Carmelites, in particular the Carthusians as they are cloistered monks/hermits.

      Thanks for making this comment. It's nice to see dialogue about the commonalities in each person's respective love for G-d. (I'm Catholic, but I seem to remember, from Jewish friends, that that way of writing the name is an act of profound reverence and humility among the Jewish faithful). Bless you.

    I love the greatness and beauty of this vocation. I used to think the Lord wanted me as a Passionist, or some kind of sister/nun, but it wasn't meant to be. At first I felt discouraged by this, but then I discovered the vocation of Consecrated Virginity. I definitely feel more at peace and more joyful at the thought of being consecrated to Him in this way!

I should have been a Nun the I would have had fruit. Instead I was a Brat. I thank each and every Nun and Priest who have given their lives to God and to us. What a blessing they are to us.

However, upon reflection I realise the peace in serving the lord must provide such inner tranquility. I have only felt truly peaceful once in my life, but I imagine your such existence must provide you with such solace.
    That's it settled, I shall have to organise a few days in a convent for reflection and peace in the summer.

I’m Jodie my daughter is Laura and her husband is Kyle. Thank you so much sisters. God Bless you and we will never forget what Jesus has done for us. Love to you I remember Sr John Mary right no. I would argue that becoming a nun is not the only way to serve.
      I have thought of becoming a nun, except:
      1) don’t want to convert to Catholicism and
      2) my sight is failing, which would preclude me from some activities.
      But, i like to think i am serving Him by using my handicraft skills (I’ve been crocheting since i was eight years old {let’s say more than 35 years}, when i still needed glasses but my sight was much better than now) to make baby blankets, shawls, lap afghans and such for charity.

However, I absolutely love giving to people in need and volunteering, so that’s how I feel I can serve.

      @@Punkchic207 i’d like to suggest that instead of outright saying, “i can’t do this,” explore different convents.
      I’ve watched many videos about “a day in the life of Sister _______,” or “tour our convent!”, and it’s been interesting to learn how they came to have a vocation, what’s allowed and what isn’t.
      In fact, i was watching a “day in the life of sister_______”, earlier today, she said she explored different convents on-line, she compared it to “on-line dating,” before she found the community that she thought was the best fit.
      Another video, several sisters who live in a cloister were showing the various public rooms, and their “living room” has a large-screen TV.
      the sister who was describing the room said that the other day, all the sisters had watched a secular movie (didn’t mention the title), then discussed how the themes could be used in their teachings and daily lives.

    Thank you sister for this lovely video. I noticed at the end that Mother was blessing the nuns with holy water. I heard somewhere only a priest could bless with holy water. I know it's OK to bless ourselves with holy water. Could you clear this up for me. Thank you 🕊

    • @passionistnuns
      @passionistnuns  2 года назад +5

      Blessings with holy water are not restricted to the clergy. In fact, the tradition of the religious superior blessing the community with holy water at the end of the day goes back many centuries. Same with the tradition of parents blessing their children.
      It is also OK for the laity to bless with blessed oil -- not, of course, the holy oils consecrated by the bishop at the Chrism Mass for use in the sacraments, but simple oil such as St. Joseph oil (promoted by St. Andre Bessette) or oil a priest has blessed with a relic of a saint.
      Hope this helps!

Sometimes I feel like blessing certain people and places with holy water and thought it might be like performing a "minor" exorcism that only an exorcist is authorized to perform. God bless you! That chant is the opening invocation of each "hour" of the Liturgy of the Hours. The music is an adaptation of the Latin chant, arranged by our former organist Mother Catherine Marie. Here is what we are singing:
      O God, come to my assistance.
      O Lord, make haste to help me.
      Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
      As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia.

    What is the difference from a Carmelite nun?

    • @srmaliajosfefa3739
      @srmaliajosfefa3739 2 года назад +2

      Hmmm, the chanting of the Divine Office is similar to the Carmelites too. The work done in silence and 2x 1 hour recreation in community is similar too.
      The only difference is the charisma , spiritual formation and spiritually is very different - for example, the Discalced Carmelites follow a simple rule called the Primitive Rule with just a tad few rules, they study and follow the spirituality of the Carmelite Saints & Doctors of the Church such as Sts. Teresa of Jesus, John of the Cross, Therese and Edith Stein (St. Benedicta of the Cross) etc. The Passionate Order has their own rule and their own spirituality , possibly studying from Sts Paul of the Cross, Gemma Galigini, Gabriel of the Mother of Sorrows. Bible studies is also important in cloistered Monasteries/Convents.
