D Cee I agree with you!!!!! BUT, what these nuns don’t realise is; it’s NOT BIBLICAL AT ALL. ITS A PAGAN PRATICE!!!!! A pagan religion !!!!! Nowhere in the bible does it tell us to live in this way!!!!!! These nuns are NOT fulfilling biblical scriptures. We were created to laugh, to actually speak to others!!!! There’s sooo much silence in a nunnery. JESUS went EVERYWHERE preaching the gospel!!!! We are to live as JESUS lived when HE was on this earth. The gospels tell us how to live our lives/ how JESUS did. We weren’t created to lock ourselves away!!!! We were also created to enjoy lovemaking inside of a marriage and the LORD HIMSELF SAID: to go forth and to multiply!!!!!
When clara says "If you try something, you've tried your best, there's never really any reason to believe you've failed" ... i felt that in my core. that's true wisdom. and advice that i think we all need in our perfectionistic world.
When Clara said that it actually brought a tear to my eye. It was something I really needed to hear because I have been feeling like quite a failure in a particular area of my life... but yes, I did try my best so I am not a failure after all. It is true wisdom, and thank you for pointing that out, sayray Music. It is a real comfort.
35 years ago I was a young woman traveling by myself across Europe for a summer. Found myself arriving in outer Milan from a delayed England flight at a small airport with bank closed so no lira & no cabs around taking dollars or pounds. There was a small car full of Italian nuns picking up a nun from my flight - all dressed in full habit. I walked up to them in the parking lot & once they figured out I was alone & scared because it was getting dark, they fit me in their little car & drove me right to the door of my downtown Milan hostel. I knew no Italian but I hope they knew how grateful I was & how I never forgot their generosity & I have tried to pay it forward over the years.
Aren't we being told, all the time, that we should accept what others choose for their lives? Well, some people choose to do this; no one should belittle or condemn their choice.
So the RC church which they will be serving in has never had a negative effect on anyone ever. Just another soldier of the cross but really part of a sick vile institution that has the world over exploited its followers and continues to do so.
Mountain Leopard that's a very judgmental and intolerant statement. It's an excuse to have double standards. I can't say "well trans women in general are mean so it's ok for me to assume that they are ALL like that right off the bat and not extend to them the same respect for their personal decisions as I want for myself and other people .". So basically being judgmental and discriminatory is ok as long as it's people I have deemed unworthy of basic respect, based on a sweeping generalization that lumps ALL religious people together (Buddhist, Catholic, Mormon , Sikh, Wiccan, etc) .
It's their choice, and perhaps it's a good decision for them. Some people can't cope with the world, looking for a job in a challenging market, taking risks, being intimate with someone, or even pursuing the hardships of an alternate lifestyle so they become nuns because they don't have to do any of those things, they just live for God. But in all honestly being a nun is the worst job in the Catholic Church. Women have no power whatsoever in the church, they are just servants for priests, their parishes, church, convent, they go out to convert others around the world, but they have little in terms of belongings, and in most places around the world they don't get the security of the retirement check or proper healthcare. Of course it's their choice, but there are many ways in which one can 'serve' God without becoming a slave or a servant with no rights.
Not all religious orders are cloistered. My daughter's order proclaims God's message through media and communications. She is on Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, & facebook. She works in a bookstore in downtown Chicago & does outreach to the schools and parishes in the archdiocese of Chicago. She entered with 2 1/2 years of college (no debt), and, next year, her order is sending her back to college to complete her degree.
And so much for her. Martin Luther was a modernist who felt the church had lost its roots. He was a low level anti-social thinker who started a 30 year war.
I think Clara should not choose an isolated convent if she has a hard time being away from her family. most convents nowadays are open and the nuns are outside doing God's work, so to speak. She would be able to see friends and family and still be a nun. Isolated convents don't really work for many people nowadays.
I get the impression she felt the need to face her deepest, darkest fear. Something she can't go on living with the terror of perhaps - being away from friends and family may feel like death to her and this would certainly be a way to "act out" the scenario - her terror may not or may not have anything rooted in her actual life experience..... but I am no therapist and to each her own. "god help her" etc. I have no clue but it is interesting to contemplate her state of mind and ponder her emotions. One wonders where mad nuns go to roost.
I know that an open convent in my honetown has the same rule in which a sister is only allowed limited visits and communication with family. They can go to watch a movie with friend outside convent every so often though.
That's the beauty of her choice. Jesus said in the Gospels: "Those who come to me cannot be my disciples unless they love me more than they love father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and themselves as well. " That's what she's trying to do. She loves them so much, but wants to respond with generosity to the infinite love God has for her.
I have a good friend she a nun we can see her anytime you want to. My family and I we were going to the monastery anybody can go to a monastery I don't know about for Catholics but for orthodox Christians you can but we quit going because it was a two-hour Drive and two are coming home . But my friend Sister she has a cell phone a computer and a Truck.
I went to Catholic school growing up and the sisters who taught us were some of the kindest, happiest, and funniest people I've ever met. The only thing that ever bothered me was that all nuns/sisters must take a vow of poverty but very few orders of preists have to
Rachel M - I went to a Catholic school and I will never forget in the 5th grade how mean Sister Cecilia was. She would spank kids with a cheese board. She never hurt me but I can still see the humiliation on some of my classmates. It was then I decided not to be catholic anymore. I know there are good teachers/nuns and bad ones.
My cousin is a religious priest, and he also had to take the vow of poverty. Diocesan priests do not take this vow b/c they aren't members of a religious order.
My dad grew up in french Canada in the 50s and 60s, when only nuns taught school. He hated nuns til his dying day telling cruel tales of sadism and child beating in the classroom by the hands of these women. Worst, he said, the browner you were, the worst you got it.
@Tony Rowan Cloistered life is a very special calling. It's not for everyone, but those who have the call are a powerhouse of prayer for the whole world. There are 7-9 years of discernment, depending on the order, until permanent profession. Those who stay are some of the happiest people in the world, although it is a difficult life in many ways.
@Tony Rowan exactly. no need for this and these girls are way way to wordly to really commit to this. no wonder they left. GOOD choice. this isn't for them for sure. ridiculous. their personalities are way to extroverted.
I don't understand why most of you are so judgmental. I'm not even really a Christian but I admire these women. They seem so happy and positive and fulfilled. And I admire the way they adhere to the spirit of Jesus' teachings when he criticized the rich and advised his followers to give up what they had. I respect that and I respect them.
Sorry, Noah, I have to disagree with you.....Jesus never once critiicized the rich, rather he warned about the LOVE of money.....which a poor person can also have... It can be more difficult to be humble for most rich people, but being rich in itself is not condemned.... Jesus 1st century disciples didnt close themselves off or away from the world, rather they preached Gods Word and explained how one day God's Kingdom would rule over the entire earth and there would (and will) be eternal peace, true peace, that is, in every sense , true happiness, no more tears or pain or death .....If you'd like to know more, please type in jw.org
Always Here , You have " the right" to judge no one, unless perhaps your serving jury duty. It is not your place as a stranger . It isnt your " business". Christian, Atheist,Buddhist etc. your philosophy is your own. Judge not lest ye be judged. Their families and friends ,while feeling the loss of having them close, are happy for them. They are not giving up a chance , they are taking one. They may change their minds later. It is their right as a human being to do so. If they do, they can cross that bridge when they get to it.
Like you I see them as courageous, compassionate and very loving. That is why God sent us here on this earth. I am not religious or even christian but I so so adore people like this.
Being a nun definitely has a lot of pluses ̣̣(and some minuses). In a nut shell, You don't have to worry about bills, mortgages, broken heart, stress of life in general, all you have to do is charity work, house hold chores and pray. I once asked a nun how is it that she decided to be a nun, she said because Jesus is a perfect man, and she wanted to love that perfect man and be with him for eternity - fair enough. God bless all the wonderful nuns.
Being "married" to Jesus is NOT A WASTE, living this life not believing in Jesus and in God is a waste. God created mankind to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and hopefully enjoy the happiness for infinity in heaven after we died, being a nun definitely composes of all three, hence, not a waste.
Is it because of the harsh critisism and harsh competition to be beautiful ? Or cause being a nun is boring and she wont be using make up anymore? Just wondering why it broke ur heart
@@lks6248,. More & more Western men are wearing makeup, it's been made for men for years now. It's the agenda to emasculate men... 'toxic masculinity" is part of the plan of pushing the Trans movement. A man can wear a dress & enter female public restrooms...even with male genitalia intact. It's horrific. Masturbation and gay sex education is being taught to 6 year olds in Canada and some parts of US, not sure about UK etc. This was off-topic, but wanted to share. God bless.
I met sister Jacinta and some other nuns at "Faith of our fathers", a Catholic event in Ireland back in 2013 . They seemed so happy and were all beautiful and hilarious. Love this program. God bless anyone who reads this x
Thank you Grace. All of those events are with the blessing of the Order as being essential to their faith. I am glad you understood the whole point of it.
The documentary missed an important point: what was their calling from god? It never really talked much about their faith and desire to serve god...and really that's what being a nun is all about.
This seems hard to understand if you’re not catholic. This is really a video of young women becoming nuns or wanting to because there are a handful of women who feel as if they’re called to this but are conflicted and unsure. This is just showing really the difference of one who is sure in her decision and the other not sure. This is a life style about bettering the world and adding light into lives of others. Now there are different nuns who do different things. This isn’t about religion this is about your faith in God and your journey on a spiritual level. People keep looking at religion but it’s more than religion.
If you’re not catholic and a young woman or any woman at that this is very hard to understand for a documentary. This video you have to pay close attention to or you will miss those points that were pointed out very quick and brief. This documentary is about having that deep love and commitment to God wanting to serve in the lords name but your hands are tied and it is tough to make that decision when you’re not sure what your path is. There are programs where you can go for a certain amount of time see if being a nun is what you’re called to do. After watching this video it definitely helped me decide on my spiritual journey that maybe being a nun isn’t for me but possibly being a missionary would be more up my ally. I do agree the Catholic Church seems hard to understand if you’re not in it. Honestly it’s beautiful and definitely teaches how a good church should with everything going on today I’m so glad the pope is taking action now. Anyways yes this video is hard to understand if you struggle with your path God is calling you to go this isn’t really about anything else just the typical spiritual struggle
Henry Stoneking not really it’s when your faith love and heart is so strong and it’s pulling you to him but yet you love family and have strong desires to marry. I had a priest who was on the edge well he was engaged and he went to the church to pray and said God give me a sign (wasn’t praying about getting married or having doubts) his fiancé comes in and sits next to him and goes you should become a priest after that he became a priest. Lol so if it’s meant to be you will get a clear sign especially if you been ignoring it lol. Being young is hard trying to figure which place in life to go to
Henry Stoneking from the outside looking in it’s easy to see but you can not judge or call or say what’s in their heart truly. That’s only a God judgment they fact that they felt drawn to serve in that manner is really a blessing but all God says to them is maybe not this way I need you in another way and that’s okay. This documentary is really showing this happens a lot more than people think and a lot of the time people who know this is their calling end up leaving I have a family friend who knew this was where she’s going ended up in the middle of this adventure she had a God moment and she ended up leaving later met her husband and had kids but she still does things with in the church and serves God In a holy way.
I myself am a deeply non-religious person. But this was a great insight into another way of living and I have nothing but respect for the young women who choose it. It takes a lot of self-assurance, maturity and stability in one's personality to follow their heart, leave friends and family behind and do what none of their peers do. They will be questioned and even laughed at and yet they still go through with it. Hats off, young ladies, I hope you're all doing very well.
I think the girl with the long blonde hair just needs to detox from city life, rather than join a convent. It seems like she loves being there for the day, where everything seems so simple and fun, but I know how hard it is to live that life.
You can do more good in the world !! Taught by nuns frustrated old bats !! They wasted their lives took out in children !! Many good deeds are done by normal people hate nuns Your body is a temple you are meant to treat as same not run around without make up !! dressed as a tramp no connect with phones no internet !! How do they know what's going on in real world ?? What are they afraid off ? When did God ever mention nuns !! God stated to go into the world not lock yourself away !!! MadNuns what are they running away form ?? LIFE !!
Tony Rowan So agree Tony however we are meant to be in the world helping others not hiding !! So much help needed in the world Children abused. Drunken and drugged perents so much poverty people with no food then yu have nuns !!! I have seen it all as a district nurse ! Convents should be closed and nuns sent into world to help people better still get rid of nuns they are a cop out !! X
You're wrong to say her primary motive is to have a simple life. At 38 minutes into the video, the nun asked her what she wanted the most and she replied to be a saint and bring joy to others. That's why she wants to join the convent.
@@gabrielleolorunda9134 It turns out that many Nuns are just Lesbians avoiding marraige. lol Spiritual-Lesbians. My Dad and his co-worker did some repairs at a Monestary and saw a clothes line with lacey bras and knickers, fancier than anyone would dare imagine. lol
it's funny I was a Clara. I wanted to be a nun from the time I was little. I didn't have the most robust faith or an insane love for God. There was just something about the nuns in my life that I adored and found healing. I ended up spending 2 years on and off with two separate orders discerning. I have always had a deep affinity for The Sister's of Christian Charity that was founded by Mother Teresa. I was actually blessed by her when I was 5 while she was visiting Washington DC. I discerned mostly with her order and then one other that I really fell in love with. They were the most progressive and their main mission was working in the field of Human rights. I went along to some of their activities when appropriate and it just open my eyes to so much more. Two of the nuns I was close to were actually former victims of human trafficking the sister's had a hand in rescuing. I was ready to sign on the dotted line but when it came down to it the Mother felt I wasn't ready. She didn't deny I had a vocation, just at that time I was doing it out of fear of being in love or being hurt again. She was right, I had so much hurt and healing to do. It's 14 years later and I wish I could reach out and thank her and the sisters for all they did for me.
this inspired me so much, I normally just go to church 3 times a week, and now I am considering giving myself to Jesus christ, its been 4 years since I first watched his video and I am finally meeting a bunch of wondefull people to make it happen. my family doesn't support me, but I want to thank all the ladies in the video.
you don't I ed to join a convent to give yourself to Christ. Just give Him permission to direct your life, then turn from your sins and get to know Him through His word, the Bible.People mske it harder than it is.
Maia Sitter there are two types of nuns Friars share their experiences and serve Monks live in constant prayer, reflecting without distractions from the outside so that they can reall grow with Jesu
I really enjoyed seeing the Young Nuns interacting with the community. They looked genuinely happy, loved watching them interact in the car. I still can not wrap my head of being kept inside for the rest of my life.
I think Catherine looked more settled/comfortable/herself at the dance rather than in the convent 🤷🏽♀️ so I wasn't surprised that the sisters told her to wait a year. Clara, I think, would do well in an regular comminity
There are convents that are not so cloistered. They teach, help people and are out within the community, seeing their families and friends. This seems so extreme.
+mary vee But most of those act like insane social justice warriors and would hardly have a feeling of what most people would consider a religious life, in fact, why not just be a volunteer at the ACLU if you want to go that way.
so these orders are VERY old/traditional like think medieval. imagine if your choice was marry in the middle ages, or saying goodbye to your family and living cloistered. the saying goodbye to your family was not even a downside, MANY girls ran away to these to escape marriages and abuse and the closed off traditions helped protect the girls. you make new fiends inside, i was at one once and they had weekly game days. cards against humanity was super popular, charades too. it almost had the feel of a perpetual sleepover/sorority house. you can still write to the people you want to keep in touch with, and your not forbidden from leaving. your not locked in against your will you are there because you chose to be there. you also DO get visitors, just in the visiting area. and your visitors are not allowed to bother others for it. a lot of them also take in people who need to get clean off of drugs for a period. its a good environment for that so like their are a lot of benefits to them existing. its NOT for everyone, especially in this day and age where the need to escape forced marriages is almost gone, fewer girls choose this. however i DO know a girl that wants this. she is quite, introverted, an artsy type. she is happy with her choice.
ok ay How many nuns do you know well? Ask anyone who was brought up in residential care by nuns, and ask them what they think of nuns. The people who deserve respect are mothers, they do the hardest job of all, often with little or no help. The moment a woman becomes a mother she will serve God and others for the rest of her life. Mothers really deserve a lot of respect.
Nuns are absolutely no different than anyone else. Some are kind, some are mean, some are patient, some are impatient, some are loving, some are self centered. In all my years of parochial school, I've encountered all kinds of nuns. Being a mother or a nun does not automatically make one worthy of respect.
I had a feeling the blonde girls interest was a whim. She didnt seem that interested in spiritual things outside of a convent which is perfectly fine, but the sister seemed to call that one correctly.
She said she wanted to be a nun since she was 4... I don't think it was a whim, it's just such an all-encompassing change to undertake in her life, of course she was gonna have doubts.
There is a difference between nuns and sisters, that's not what's stated. There are also semi- cloistered nuns, and fully cloistered nuns. They don't really explore this in the documentary. I might feel called to the religous life, but I don't feel called to be a nun but a sister. I don't want to be cloistered at all, I feel called to serve always the people of God in acts of Charity. There are so many different orders, and so many different duties and services each one fulfills-- they are all beautiful, but all for different people.
wow, these girls are incredibly brave. They're the proof that sometimes happiness is not that obviously visible and needs to be found in the hardest of choices. Bravo to them! They're a real inspiration ; and i say this as an atheist.
+Tolkieniana1 Everyone's an inspiration, who trully seeks happiness and acts brave abou it. I totally agree with you. I think these days most people just accept whatever society around them sells them as "happiness" and it takes a lot of courage to completely individually decide on your own and sometimes struggle to find your own path...
I’m not even religious but the sisters in Leeds who go out and do charity work, seem like they get so much fulfilment and joy from their work and I really think they’re making a difference because they’re helping the community
I know some of these Sisters from when they were in NYC and they are truly the most joyful, peaceful, loving women. It lifts your spirit to be around them. I’m grateful for Sisters like these in my life.
I can't imagine what kind of dedication it takes for a woman to decide to become a nun. God bless these beautiful women, they know who they are and what they want, even if the world doesn't always agree
Ayyyyyyyy Clara came home!!! Holy crap no pun intended. When her mom read that letter, I felt her separation anxiety. I felt her grief. She can of course serve God in a less strict nunery.
The blonde one needs to know that there are other forms of alternative living... Where you can experience stillness, nature, peace AND a partner if you want to...
@@angelinapalomino4308 **sigh** way to miss the point. If you actually watched the documentary, that particular young lady was *specifically* weighing those two options "cloistered life" vs "wife and mother".
I know it's difficult to understand if you do not believe in God, but religious vocation is a calling from God, which, if unanswered, will keep coming back to you and make you feel unsatisfied with your life even when you have a husband and children. It really is not that simple to just move away from the city
I applaud these women for their choices. It takes a lot of strength plus dedication to do this. They will have different types of stress, yet, ultimately more peaceful & meaningful lives. Beautiful!
Claria seems to be such a wonderful human being. I wish her lots of love and happiness in her journey. She seems to need a more liberal order, but her devotion is very clear. Catherine on the other hand seems to desire this journey as some sort of "fashionable" choice. The sisters are right to make her wait. Time shows commitment.
I'm glad Clara is taking more time out to decide. She has a huge loving family, and I was really feeling her pain in leaving them. I hope if she becomes a nun she finds a more social order.
Encouraging how they are asking the question, where do I fit in this puzzle that we call life. I have 12 aunts 2 generations of Poor Clare nuns, a life of isolation and prayer. A contradiction perhaps, but, I have never met people so happy. I too was a religious for 10 years, It was a blessing to be a religious, a life of solitude and of much growth. I decided to leave religious life and to take care of my parents. I continue working for the Church as a teacher. I believe there are many paths to happiness... You have to seriously ask yourself the question and then get about doing and "being" the best version of yourself.
amen mk. life is like that. I think its awesome you decided to go halfway with your teaching job even though I am not of faith. and yet, there are monks and nuns who are hard ass grade school and university teachers who simply cower back into the fold at night and not own a thing.
Would have liked the documentary to go more in depth about why they actually want to become a nun. It seems so extreme, particularly the girl who was going to the order that aren't allowed to leave or even see their family. I'm not religions so it's absolutely incomprehensible to me but I'm sure even for christians this seem very extreme. Would have been nice if it had gone a little more in depth.
Oh yes of course it's extreme, I'm an Orthodox Christian and the vast majority of thousands of our monks and nuns live lives that are much more open and they and the monasteries are the integral part of the community. There are individual hermits or some hermitages that live in partial or total isolation and dedicate themselves to prayer, but these are very, very few, and it is a matter of personal choice, not some general rule
As a Roman Catholic, I really have high respect for nuns. They live a very simple and chaste life devoted to the service of God. Those nuns that are in recluse and lives a cloistered monastic life we call monks. But, there are also nuns who are missionaries and directly serves the community through charities for the poor and the needy like abandoned children, old people, etc. They are very organized and have organizations called orders. Sometimes, when the materialistic world seems too heavy and burdensome, I visit monasteries even for a day, attend the mass, listen to monastic music sang by the "sisters", so hauntingly pure and beautiful which are balms to my soul, donate on their charities because no matter what the devil whispers in your ears (the media and its bruhaha) that the funds may be misused, the sisters who may not be perfect are doing the best that they could to serve God through charity works.😎 God is great all the time. Chastity can be extended to non-nuns. If single, no premarital sex, if married, be monogamous and faithful to one's husband. Getting married requires a decision because it is supposed to be for life with the " til death do us part and what God put together, let no man put asunder." Divorce should never be considered. That is why the decision to get married requires a state beyond physical attraction, etc. and should be thoroughly considered from all aspects like psychologically, socially, mentally ( maturity) because it is a lifelong commitment under the immense grace of God.
Sister Jucinta seems full of happiness. She has such a genuine welcoming aura around her. Not to mention a sweet sense of humor. She radiates peace, kindness, understanding and love. She certainly doesn’t appear to pass judgement. She epitomizes warmth rather than the fear that religious often instill in others. I wish the nuns at my Catholic HighSchool made me feel as safe as she does.
This was a fascinating documentary. I wish that there was a way to find out what happened to the girl who decided she may want to stay near her family and possibly not go back after her break. That would be a great follow up since it’s been seven years
Someone mentioned she is his theology teacher, so she did not go back. Personally I think her error was to try for closed off nunnery where your contact to the outside world is non existant.
As a non religious person, I still find this very beautiful. Finding something to devote yourself to is a wonderful thing, whether it be a religion, lifestyle, family, anything. It's natural to want to be a part of something, and add something to the Zeitgeist. I don't see this as dumb or these women wasting their lives. They've found something non destructive to contribute to the world and other people. If you think that's silly, I feel for you. You don't have to believe in a deity to understand why someone would do something like this.
It's a valid choice if you ask me. I mean, joining a covenant provides you with economical and social security while at the same time not having to justify not wanting to marry and bear children. If you're the more contemplative type of person who can live inside your own head it who can function well with strict rules and frameworks, who feels comforted by them, it beats living paycheck to paycheck. I have a friend who would thrive in this kind of environment while she's not in the least bit religious. I, however, would go crazy within a year. I can live well within rules and inside my head but at some point, I will get bored and start experimenting with whatever is at hand. They'll kick me out when I try to smuggle a smartphone into the place and teach myself to throw pizzas or see if I can build my own fidget spinners with the help of youtube videos.
Yes, but we still conform to the Bishop's rules for us, or our Mother house, etc., and a lot of the time, we still wear some kind of habit, even if it's just for Mass and Adoration of our Lord Jesus.
Sweet Clara writes a beautiful letter! I cried so hard when she left her family, but I’m glad she’s happy! I know that even if I could make the choice to leave my family, I’m not strong enough to give up the ability to embrace them during our yearly visits.
I met some nuns years ago, they seemed lovely and genuinely happy. Many ordinary people think their lives are rigid and poor, but to me seems often the average person's life lacks lots of important matters, like contentment and the ability to be satisfied with little.
Clara is a family type, and she loves giving hugs and attention to those adorable little boys. I think that is her calling, raising a family. Catherine needs to I think find a career to suit her. She is very smart and would be a good business woman/entrepreneur. That nun told her correctly and sometimes One gets the answer they want. Both girls have good hearts and are genuine on the inside.
There are orders of nuns out there who devote time both to the Lord and to the community without being shut up and away from life. Clara should find a group like this. It would suit her outgoing nature, if she wishes to still be part of the world, while still giving her a place she can turn inward when she needs that time to reflect upon herself and God. I hope things worked out well for her in the end.
The life of a nun depends on the congregation they join. I have been lucky to have met and become friends with many. There is a misconception on what nuns are and their tasks. I have met nuns that are accountants, lawyers, rocket scientist, teachers, nurses, social workers.... and many other professions. Family life can be hard but many congregations are allowed visitors. There should be a documentary on young nuns around the world.
And some even have sex....with so called priests. This is totally a disgrace. if they read the bible maybe they would know better where they are putting themselves in the mouth of the bare
Honestly, if my church had monastic orders I would definitely become a nun. Reflection, prayer, not worrying about materialism or boys... sounds good to me!
these women are actually very happy. They do not have to deal with new phones, social medias, following fashion trends, They do not have to change their relationships. They do not live a life of consciousness. Happy them.
Although I don't think I could ever do it, I can kinda see the appeal. A guaranteed supportive social network and the security that entails. I know they take a vow of poverty, and they work, but they know they'll always have food and shelter.
Yet they eat what is given and not more. They live without all the worldly desires such as phones or any sort of entertainment. Food and shelter are trivialities in their world. They enjoy no luxuries and they wake up at the earliest hour of the day. They don't seek this lifestyle for comfort, they seek it for God.
what I see is people wanting to be spiritual and serve God. you can do that everyday anywhere, by being good to family friends strangers ,you don't have to join a convent. I see nurses in e.r. being angels all the time, ambulance emts, good moms dads, brothers and sisters getting good works done constantly do people get that all of that is serving the Divine?
That just isn't accurate. The convent in which my sister was involved relied on donations of food. When they had few donations, they went hungry! Living in poverty myself, with children who had profound disability, I could only donate once a month to their needs.
food and shelter are only problems for men, as a woman you will always have 2 options, 1 marry a nice guy, yeah i know its not a nice thought but neither is a nunnery OR sell your body most women would rather sell their body than be with a nice kind suportive inteligent man who respects women, neither are good choices, but its better than a mans choice, wich is to starve out in the cold loanly miserable hoarny and constantly taking abuse from other men who also cant get a woman so are angry, they will take it out on the tramp 100% of the time !
Jellybean Excuse me dearie, I never said she had too. Personally I think 3 inches of cake batter on your face is revolting. A tiny bit (usually less than 2 minutes worth) if perfectly fine, unless it’s more grand events then a little bit more doesn’t hurt anyone. If you use healthy make up. So thank you for assuming my thoughts were the opposite.
What a wonderful life ! I like to stay some days in Monasteries , share the nuns ´ lives...They are so peaceful and gorgeous ! They laugh so often - I see their joy of living - and no sadness ... I love them ! But the Lord didn´t call me to be a nun . I´ve been married, had seven children, seven grandsons - and many nun friends.
Who else relates so much to Catherine? Loves getting dressed up, romance and the beauty of the world, but also so enamoured with the peace and love of Christ?
You can love the Lord and give your life to him.... that doesn't mean that you have to become a nun.... you can love the Lord and still have friends and family and a husband and children.
You are rignt. But if these women feel a calling to be nuns, or religious sisters, as their way of giving their life to God, they have a right to pursue that too, right?
People in comments section doesn't seem to understand anything about catholic orders (or any convent). Every convent has a different purpose. Some spread the faith and do apostolic work, some make wine, some grow vegetables, some translate books, some record music. Being isolated doesn't mean doing nothing but praying. Each convent has it's own field of activity. First eremites used to live alone. But soon they discovered that they don't have enough time for prayer since it contains so much work to just survive in the wilderness. Even 100 years ago people worked so much to just survive. Our internet generation who has heated room doesn't understand it. Not having electricity already means tons of work and no time for just watching stars. And having time to contribute for society too (which convents often do) is unimaginable. Being isolated doesn't mean doing nothing but praying. If you have your own house, then you already have very little time to do anything else. Even time for prayer and daily mass seems hard to find for some family person.
I think these women are so incredible and I admire them for following their heart and faith. I hope they live a long, fulfilled and happy life whatever path they decide to take.
Oh I cried for Clara! She's such a beautiful soul, and when she entered the convent I just burst out crying thinking I wasn't going to see her again and I'm not even one of her family members! Anyone know what she is doing now? I would just love to hear that she shows to spread the word of Christ living in the world not the comfort because I think you don't need to be in a Convent to show you love and Christ, although it is a devotion in itself I don't think it's good for a person to be so isolated in a Convent like that.
@@lijohnyoutube101 not a cult-but people who believe that Jesus lived and taught, died for the sin of mankind, and was resurrected. that is it, that simple. because think about; if Christians are wrong-we just wasted our life, this life that will come and go. If you’re (or, any Atheist for that matter) are wrong than you wasted your eternity. Just food for thought.
@@chriscallahan3298 I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately all of these religious people are ruining the planet by doing things like voting in horrible people in the US :( their nonsense is hurting us all!
Nuns are the toughest, coolest, nicest people. Go ladies! I will always admire this kind of life that I aspired to for so many years. I wasn't brave enough, they are great great people, ad majoram!
Eva Sara I’m with you. My mom has a best friend who is a nun. She’s from an order that’s very liberal. Different orders do different things she was arrested once at a protest
@@loftymcdee9468 Amen to that (no pun intended). My mother used to tell me stories of her childhood in a school run by nuns and how they would beat the girls if the misbehaved, not to mention all the children that died and were dumped into unmarked graves by these "nice people".
Why can't Clara find a community that isn't enclosed? She is too much of a social/family person. There is so much out there. I hope she finds her spot.
I can really relate to Karen a lot :) I thought about entering the vocation when I was younger and did modeling in life but its hard giving up this worldly life to the life of becoming a nun especially when you want children or a family. Much respect for these women!
I'm glad to see that the Nuns encourage everyone to take their decision seriously and don't put undue pressure for women to join or stay in the order. It's not something I would be able to do myself, but if these women feel they are fulfilling their life's calling then so be it.
As a non-Catholic i am hard pressed to understand from the bible where we are as men or women to isolate ourselves from the world. God call us to be the Salt and Light not be hidden in a convent? Did not all the disciples go into all the world to preach and teach? Or be a Godly farmer, baker, doctor etc..
Most nuns aren't cloistered. People are called to be all sorts of different things whether it be a priest, teacher, or mother. These nuns are helping the world trough prayer. Praying for peoples souls and other things I would assume.
The single life is a calling, strengthened by the fact that we all have a guardian angel that God created solely for us, who will love us and know us as no human on this earth can. I understand what you are saying about being a doctor, baker of God, etc, HOWEVER, we are called to also NOT be of this world, and THAT is what they are doing, and providing the example for. Many people of faith, when they negatively view cloistered orders etc, they do not realize how utilitarian and thus OF this world in the worst way, they are being.
@@nacht_owl Really? Where are the guardian angels of the almost 29 000 children under the age of 5 that die every day on this planet from completely preventable causes? Were they on a break? Please, spare us your superstitious garbage.
Choosing not to care for your parents when they grow old and ill, choosing not to be at their deathbed, choosing to miss your little brothers weddings, choosing to turn the people that matter most into strangers. I just don't understand it.
It's a calling that requires a great deal of sacrifice. It's not something easily understood by those who aren't called to this kind of life. Her family is religious and understand that she is giving herself totally to Jesus and God.
Catherine Vaughan You are in our prayers! I would always suggest a visit, there are many places that allow you to stay in a guest room for a night or two just to see what it looks like. In fact I am visiting a benedictine monastery here in a few weeks. Feel free to talk anytime if you need anything.
Catherine Vaughan It's a more difficult decision than ever... but don't be afraid to live fully and radically for Christ! If you're called to be a nun, go for it! If you're called to be a wife and mother, do it and be open to all the children God blesses you with! There's nothing more powerful than living to the fullest!
I can’t help feeling Clara was more in love with the idea but really didn’t think it was serious just really a way of being different with her friends. But she tried and ended up making the right choice.
It's really weird how so many comments automatically classify the "blond" as not being true nun material. She said she had prayed about it since she was four years old. That's a LONG discernment. She only allowed the Mother Superior to make that call because she was already practicing obedience, a very perfect religious ideal for a nun. It would be wrong to assume that because Catherine is pretty and socially active that somehow she's also superficial. She may become a nun later in life and surprise you all. But I do feel her desire to be a wife is holding her back. Either way, I'm sure she will be an excellent mother.
There are many kinds of nuns. The cloistered groups of nuns dedicate themself to prayer. The prayers are for all people living and dead. It is an important spiritual aspect to Catholicism. The nuns who are called to serve, join a convent that goes out into the world and serves. They serve the poor, sick, needy ect.
There are many types of nuns. The cloistered nuns don’t live too differently from Buddhist monks but no one makes a fuss about that. Seems to me because they are young women from a very modern western world people can’t grasp that reality as much.
They look so happy! I'm not judging, I'm jealous. I wanted to be a nun, twice. I went to a Catholic college and partly due to that influence, I thought I was called. I love the church music. The lack of distractions. No wonder Maria von Trapp wanted to be a nun!
At eighteen I went to an interview with the mother nun at the convent, as the same thing was said to me, as she would say that "they usually would not accept young women right out of college, or high school but wait six months, if I STILL WANT TO BE A NUN i am always welcome," as it shows they were other plans for me
+jlapierremusic honestly, if you are called, you won't be at peace until you obey the call. I think it must take great faith and courage to follow this call.
+jlapierremusic If you had a big dream to follow in another country or you found love at the end of the world and you had to leave all your family and friends behind, wouldn't you also be sad and miss them, but then also being excited and happy about the future? Human emotions are nothing flat but very diverse and multi-dimensional. I bet you already had some moments where you felt happy and sad at the same time..
i spent the majority of my twenties researching convents cause I thought I was supposed to be a nun... I remember speaking with Sr. Jacinta on the phone...
I honestly have a question. What good are they doing for their faith by not leaving a building? What good are they doing for the world? Are they not just a burdon to the church if they never do anything productive? What's the point of them just, locking themselves away like that?
The nun said it. It’s to be able to live close to God away from the distractions of the modern world. I don’t think they see dedicating their lives to the service of God as being unproductive.
Ab Dis. Good question. My mind was changed 8 years ago : Why Nuns? I would suggest you watch the documentary "NUNAN" - The nun. In this true story, Marta, a young Swedish girl chooses such a life. It spans 10 years of her and her large family. I am not Catholic but Marta;s life with interviews by a great producer gave me a real sense of the importance of these cloistered sisters. You will fall in love with Marta's family. We need their deep and sincere devotion to all humanity. I watch it for comfort twice a year, or more. And I have a tough life so I am always seeking strength to carry on. Luck to you...!
Your question is a good one. I think the sisters called to this would not think in terms of what good they are doing for their faith. I think they would think of it in terms of how they can best love Jesus. To us, our faith is not in some spiritual abstraction but in a living person, the Man-God, Jesus Christ. The Church is not just a NGO or NPO. "We love because He first loved us." Why does a woman become a nun? For very similar reasons that another woman may want to marry--out of a desire to love and to spend time with the beloved.
This was broadcast in 2011. Sadly there has not been any follow up or update. I cannot find anything on the web about Clara. Catherine was selected as the UKIP parliamentary candidate for Newbury in 2015. An article from the election describes her as a marketing executive with a boyfriend. Clearly being a nun didn't happen.
I've spent my life around Anglo Catholic and kadampa Buddhist nuns and they are the happiest people I've ever met. They have found that a conceptual, materialist mind does not bring true happiness. It doesn't permeate the soul/mind. A life of prayer, meditation and taking care of each living thing brings true contentment.
"I don't think it's wrong, it's just not for me." That child has more wisdom than many adults in this comment section.
She has more wisdom than me 😂
Most children do
She had more wisdom than the other girls in that interview.
D Cee COULDN’T AGREE MORE
D Cee I agree with you!!!!!

I knew no Italian but I hope they knew how grateful I was & how I never forgot their generosity & I have tried to pay it forward over the years.
say thankyou our lady she is the most loving beautiful person
Aren't we being told, all the time, that we should accept what others choose for their lives? Well, some people choose to do this; no one should belittle or condemn their choice.
Always Here who are they affecting in a negative or in a positive way?

Amy Moxley that's wonderful.
Which community?
Amy Moxley I'm not Catholic but it seems obvious to me that you can't do gods work if you're cloistered
Awesome!! God bless her and your family! 🙏🏾
Many people were never called to the contemplative orders. God picks a select few.
That's the beauty of her choice. Jesus said in the Gospels: "Those who come to me cannot be my disciples unless they love me more than they love father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and themselves as well. "
That's what she's trying to do.
Rachel M that’s just the order of nuns that taught you,
All nuns and priest orders have to take a life of poverty, but not to the same extent
The nuns who taught us, were cruel and sadistic. Looking back, it was probably from sexual frustration.

Always Here but in their mind the unique happiness their lifestyle can offer and at times deliver is real.
The Blue Haired Lawyer - exactly .
Basically you don't have to worry about your life.
The reason they don't have to worry about the stress of life is they let their lives go to waste.

The documentary missed an important point: what was their calling from god? It never really talked much about their faith and desire to serve god...and really that's what being a nun is all about.
ajaxfilms Catholicism in a nutshell lol
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
I think the girl with the long blonde hair just needs to detox from city life, rather than join a convent. It seems like she loves being there for the day, where everything seems so simple and fun, but I know how hard it is to live that life.

it's funny I was a Clara.
In this screwed up world becoming a nun might not be the worst option.

my family doesn't support me, but I want to thank all the ladies in the video.

I really enjoyed seeing the Young Nuns interacting with the community. They looked genuinely happy, loved watching them interact in the car. I still can not wrap my head of being kept inside for the rest of my life.
their point is to swear a life of personal loyalty to God and self respect to others. its a ritual that demands all of your self interest.
"You want to join now, but 6 months from now you might not want to be a nun" She's right about Catherine.
She was so honest, yet so gentle at the same time.
This seems so extreme.
mary vee Yes.
+mary vee But most of those act like insane social justice warriors and would hardly have a feeling of what most people would consider a religious life, in fact, why not just be a volunteer at the ACLU if you want to go that way.
Jesus was a warrior for social justice!
This truely the best life in our terbulant world. Gog is. There to help them. 030818.
so these orders are VERY old/traditional like think medieval. imagine if your choice was marry in the middle ages, or saying goodbye to your family and living cloistered. the saying goodbye to your family was not even a downside, MANY girls ran away to these to escape marriages and abuse and the closed off traditions helped protect the girls.
you make new fiends inside, i was at one once and they had weekly game days. cards against humanity was super popular, charades too. it almost had the feel of a perpetual sleepover/sorority house. you can still write to the people you want to keep in touch with, and your not forbidden from leaving. your not locked in against your will you are there because you chose to be there. you also DO get visitors, just in the visiting area. and your visitors are not allowed to bother others for it.
a lot of them also take in people who need to get clean off of drugs for a period. its a good environment for that so like their are a lot of benefits to them existing.
its NOT for everyone, especially in this day and age where the need to escape forced marriages is almost gone, fewer girls choose this. however i DO know a girl that wants this. she is quite, introverted, an artsy type. she is happy with her choice.
The moment a woman becomes a nun she will serve God and others for the rest of her live. Nuns really deserve a lot of respect.
i see you dont know any
ok ay How many nuns do you know well? Ask anyone who was brought up in residential care by nuns, and ask them what they think of nuns. The people who deserve respect are mothers, they do the hardest job of all, often with little or no help. The moment a woman becomes a mother she will serve God and others for the rest of her life. Mothers really deserve a lot of respect.
I'm sad to see at least 2 people have had bad experiences with nuns. I'm sorry. My experience with nuns has been inspiring and positive.
Ive only known one nun personally and shes a beautiful woman inside and out.
I Agree, she did not seem genuine which i found a tad unsettling
I would love to know what she is up to today.
i agree completely
She said she wanted to be a nun since she was 4... I don't think it was a whim, it's just such an all-encompassing change to undertake in her life, of course she was gonna have doubts.
There are less traditional abbeys. Claire could have chosen a less strict one where she could actually see her family, like the Franciscan sisters.
@@aokayt9517 Thank you for sharing. I was wondering what was difference. 💞
That was what I was thinking. She clearly feels the call to serve the higher purpose, dont know why she was so dead set on the extreme fanatical side?

I’m not even religious but the sisters in Leeds who go out and do charity work, seem like they get so much fulfilment and joy from their work and I really think they’re making a difference because they’re helping the community
I know some of these Sisters from when they were in NYC and they are truly the most joyful, peaceful, loving women. It lifts your spirit to be around them. I’m grateful for Sisters like these in my life.
I can't imagine what kind of dedication it takes for a woman to decide to become a nun. God bless these beautiful women, they know who they are and what they want, even if the world doesn't always agree
its just an oath to serve God and the community of the whole. They get rest time. It is not a slave camp.
Ayyyyyyyy Clara came home!!! Holy crap no pun intended. When her mom read that letter, I felt her separation anxiety. I felt her grief. She can of course serve God in a less strict nunery.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe she could join Sister Jacinta and serve the poor and community. That seems more like her thing

way to miss the point. If you actually watched the documentary, that particular young lady was *specifically* weighing those two options "cloistered life" vs "wife and mother".
What makes you think she doesn't know this?

You're really pretty:)

Clara' s friends reaction to her cutting off her hair reminds me of the scene in Little Women when Jo sells her hair
Youngest sister Amy, ‘your one beauty!’
The comments though. If these women are happy doing this, let them be... sure as hell beats being an economic slave
Different slave, different cage. Also nuns in most convents also do work, except their work is mostly unpaid and all profits go to the church.
The profits goes to the convent - to the sisters community, not to the church

well said bro!!
A beautiful documentary....the struggle to make a decision, the love of family, and the joy of following Jesus with your whole heart!
There are many nuns who do have careers as nurses and teachers, etc.

Yes, but we still conform to the Bishop's rules for us, or our Mother house, etc., and a lot of the time, we still wear some kind of habit, even if it's just for Mass and Adoration of our Lord Jesus.

I met some nuns years ago, they seemed lovely and genuinely happy. Many ordinary people think their lives are rigid and poor, but to me seems often the average person's life lacks lots of important matters, like contentment and the ability to be satisfied with little.
Gosh I love the Franciscan sisters!!! So much happiness and God’s love radiating from them.

There should be a documentary on young nuns around the world.

these women are actually very happy. They do not have to deal with new phones, social medias, following fashion trends, They do not have to change their relationships. They do not live a life of consciousness. Happy them.
Although I don't think I could ever do it, I can kinda see the appeal. A guaranteed supportive social network and the security that entails. I know they take a vow of poverty, and they work, but they know they'll always have food and shelter.
older women need not apply..........
I see nurses in e.r. being angels all the time, ambulance emts, good moms dads, brothers and sisters getting good works done constantly
do people get that all of that is serving the Divine?

As a non-Catholic i am hard pressed to understand from the bible where we are as men or women to isolate ourselves from the world. God call us to be the Salt and Light not be hidden in a convent? Did not all the disciples go into all the world to preach and teach? Or be a Godly farmer, baker, doctor etc..
bob washere it also said not everyone is called to be married. Nun’s don’t have to isolate themselves. They can serve and spread the gospel too
Most nuns aren't cloistered.

I love the sisters in Leeds! A life spent in service of God and of neighbors really appeals to me!
I can’t help feeling Clara was more in love with the idea but really didn’t think it was serious just really a way of being different with her friends.
But she tried and ended up making the right choice.
The world needs people who pray unceasingly for the rest of us. God bless the sisters.
I dont know why I feel this way but I feel like I want to cry for her her. Giving so much away. Weird hu I'm so sad now
It's really weird how so many comments automatically classify the "blond" as not being true nun material.
That doesn't makes sense to me. Jesus didn't shut himself away from the world. He served in the world, not locked away.
DaughterofKings22 that’s true but they do go out and serve
DaughterofKings22 also Jesus said don’t mourn for me but look forward to my return
@@blondie4lyfe245 the ones locked away dont, they never leave the convent
At eighteen I went to an interview with the mother nun at the convent, as the same thing was said to me, as she would say that "they usually would not accept young women right out of college, or high school but wait six months, if I STILL WANT TO BE A NUN i am always welcome," as it shows they were other plans for me
I could never do it, and Im not very religious either, but they do seem like really good people, and if they're happy then good for them.
I just dont understand how the girls are talking about how sad it is that they are going away, yet its their choice to become a nun,,,
+jlapierremusic honestly, if you are called, you won't be at peace until you obey the call.
I bet you already had some moments where you felt happy and sad at the same time..
makes perfect sense... just like all religion.
Because they're doing It for God!
TheAnneelise Choices imply also some degree of sorrow. Separation is never easy but you have to choose what makes you feel good.
“I don’t think it’s wrong, it’s just not for me “ very good insight from a young teenager. 🤗
i spent the majority of my twenties researching convents cause I thought I was supposed to be a nun... I remember speaking with Sr. Jacinta on the phone...
I honestly have a question. What good are they doing for their faith by not leaving a building? What good are they doing for the world? Are they not just a burdon to the church if they never do anything productive? What's the point of them just, locking themselves away like that?
Nuns tend to do a lot of service work
The nun said it. It’s to be able to live close to God away from the distractions of the modern world. I don’t think they see dedicating their lives to the service of God as being unproductive.
They, and many, many others, believe that prayer changes things.
UKIP? Yikes...
