We switched things up a bit and decided to try our hand at bicycle touring and not just a short one. With a quick internet search of "long bike trails on the east coast" the top search was www.greenway.org. The East Coast Greenway with a detailed map appeared with only a handful of people that completed it from end to end. With not a lot of time to find bikes, panniers, and all the gear needed for our almost 3000 mile bike ride from Maine to Florida, we scrambled to get ready. To be honest, we didn't think everything through as much as we could have but it left us with a lot of unknown and the ability to take each day as it came. Could we have been more prepared… totally but what is the fun in that? As we started our journey south along the east coast greenway we were naïve but excited to see what the trail would bring.
In this video you follow along with us as we get used to the whole 'bike touring' day to day process. We started the tour with pretty bad head colds that ended up taking us about two weeks to get over. But we were thankful that the October weather was on our side as we headed south through Maine, little did we know that Maine would be one of the warmest states we would go through while on our trip. We all adjusted to what this adventure really meant and how much work it was going to be.
We hope you enjoy this video and comment below. We want to know would you thru bike the east coast greenway or through the beautiful state of Maine? Either way, we would love to hear from you!

I missed seeing your 1st video. Actually rewatching them all. Thank you for sharing. I know it takes time out to video along the way. Feel your adjustments to a bike trip especially breaking in saddle/seat sitting. Bike touring is as much mind as is physical. Good you invested time, money and energy into a trip to remember. If have a journal on day to day thoughts, be an interesting read but you share are good bit to feel what the days were like. Thanks again for sharing. Not many have done the ECG with as much city riding involved.

[Bike touring is as much mind as is physical.]
It really is! But to understand that, you'd have to be a biker yourself. I'm long in the tooth, but still addicted to the endorphins, and younger ones ask: "You just did 100km?' And I have to explain: 'With a good machine, good weather and a good route, it's easier than walking all day'. A good part of that is the Zen of it all.

Hi… I’ve only recently found the east coast greenway…. Newbie bike packer but avid back packer. My beloved husband died, will be 6 mos in two weeks. I live in Florida, but we have a summer home in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was my husband’s bucket list…. I’m needing to return this summer to sort stuff out, vehicles, etc. it’s a painful trip. We spent last summer there and he passed a few weeks after returning to Florida.
My question is how did you find the information for your route. Did you load it to your phone, if so what app would you recommend.
I’m planning on biking from Florida to bar harbor, Me and taking the ferry across to Nova Scotia. A pilgrimage, of sorts.
After many bikers and a greenway volunteer stating to avoid Georgia and s Carolina. I have decided to bike to Jacksonville. And take the train to just outside of Washington in Va. then carrying on to Maine by the route provided by the greenway alliance. I’ve registered for warm showers and hope to camp and stay at homes.
Anything you would like to suggest?

Just a quick question; it does not appear that you stayed on the Downeast Sunrise Trail for the whole way from Ayers Junction to Ellsworth, but transferred over to the highway at some point? Is that because you found the Trail unsuitable for your bicycles? I am thinking of trying that Trail on my gravel bike in a couple of weeks, but have heard mixed reviews regarding the Trail's condition, torn up by ATVs etc? I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have on this subject. Thanks.

We decided to take the road on certain parts because of Maisha's dog trailer. The quick release wheels were wedging themselves out every couple miles because of how chunky the rocks were in certain parts. If we didn't have the dog trailer we would have been fine on either bikes. And the trail itself was beautiful ❤️
