- Welcome to Miami! It took a few days for it to completely sink in, but eventually we realized that we had really made it to a new continent. After weeks of cold and mostly wet weather in Turkey, cycling up Florida's east coast was quite a change.
Surf, sun and salty air, mixed with high humidity and amazing hospitality pretty much sum up our experience in Florida. We truly had a great time!

Less jokey, here in the US, you can buy fresh ingredients at any supermarket and they are much cheaper than pre made food like you got there. Also tastes better, better for you and better for the environment.

Not easy but for food stay away from the chain restaurants when you can, so much good food in the local one off type places there. Local diners are great places for good cheap meals.
Not in California though. If you order a vegetarian dish they serve you the steak menu without the steak and charge you more. We did that once and my wife paid over $100 for the two of us and we left hungry. People rip you off in California no matter where you go.
Even a plain veggie burrito at a food truck is about $10.

The scenic parts of Canada are along the east coasts of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and on the west we have the Rocky mountains. It's incredibly flat in the middle part of the country not much to see particularly if you are coming from other countries... you might fall asleep while cycling there. Almost forgot to mention wild camping in Canada is similar to the U.S which is not very easy.
Ya for pancakes you have to go to a good mom and pop restaurant. IHOP and Dennys are just basic traveller food.

Welcome to Florida. I'm glad you had a chance to ride the Florida coast. I've done it myself too from Key West to Georgia, really cool. I'm following your adventures now to see how it goes on the west coast. I did part of it last summer, Big Sur section. And continue this year on the Oregon coast. Canada and northern US in winter would have been just awful. Staying south was a million times better solution.

IHOP and high expectations? I don't know what to compare it to for you, but IHOP is kind of like a Denny's. Low expectations, and big portions. I can't speak to the burgers at the Cheesecake Factory though. I don't eat meat.
We also don’t eat meat. We had a vegan burger at Cheesecake Factory. It definitely wasn’t bad, just wasn’t exceptional.
@@louisaandtobi I guess a burger is a burger? I really don't know what would make one exceptional. Making it yourself and putting exactly what you want on it maybe? A little tip for once you hit California. I'm sure you've heard of In-n-out. They exist in a few other states now (which is too bad if you ask me). But they are legendary. If you do eat cheese, then order a "grilled cheese" instead of a burger as they don't have meat substitutes there. It's their sauce that makes them unique anyway, and it comes on the grilled cheese. I get it without onions, but you could do grilled onions if you're onion people. And their fries are actually fresh and taste much different than other "fast food" fries. Perhaps this isn't "exceptional" but I grew up with in-n-out, so it's probably a bit of comfort food for me. Anyway, just an off menu option to allow you to eat there... if you wanted. :)
You need more bug spray.
It’s not your expectations. A lot of places in the US, it can be form without substance. One of the things you learn here if you care is how to spot substance and avoid the empty. Many Americans just want appearances, hence why we’re accused of being shallow. Should have gone to Cracker Barrel.

Prepared food is always more expensive. And full of sugar in the States. Too bad you only have 90 days. In 90 days, in Canada, it will still be pretty cold (but not like today, it is minus 20 Celsius here in Montreal). 🥶

I've been following your route since Croatia. One helpful piece of information would be: what month is it, when you are there? That would help in understanding, whether the climate you encounter is to be expected when one of your viewers wanted to follow on your trails.. So Florida you went through in January?

Southern Florida is hot year-round, even in January. Central Florida is also likely to be at least warm, but occasional cold snaps can occur (as it did earlier in 2023). Northern Florida is much colder, and in January overnight lows can be below freezing. In Tallahassee, on average there are 30 nights annually when it freezes.
Glad to see you guys enjoyed my home state! I've only done one short tour in the central part of the state and it was in the summer so it was very sweaty.
Oh and once you get out west, Mexican food is cheap and amazing, and yeah like someone else said avoid the chain restaurants, it's all microwaved junk.
In the mean time we've had some Mexican and other food and that was definitely better! We just thought we'd give all the "famous" food-chains a try.. :D

Did you notice a lack of camping options? Was navigation easy in the US? I know the roads are not really bicycle friendly.
I don’t think you made it as far north as Virginia. You should come back and do ACA’s Trans Am and Canada during summer. Mostly so you can visit us.
Nice video. I am planning to ride the Florida coast this winter from Miami to Daytona along A1A. I see that you had problems finding a place to camp. How did you manage that situation?
We had a lot of either Couchsurfing or Warmshowers hosts over those weeks. Occasionally we did camp in a town park or asked at a church.

Hi, überlege im Januar ne Biketour in Florida zu machen. Wo habt ihr denn immer Übernachtet. Das ist bei Radtouren immer meine größte Sorge. Aus dem Grund habe ich auhc immer ein Zelt dabei. Habt immer ein Motel/Campingplatz gefunden? Wildcampen stelle ich mir in den USA relativ schwierig vor. Danke
Hey, wo wir in den USA geschlafen haben ist ein recht ausführliches Thema. Wir haben ein „Tips and Tricks - USA“ Video vor ein paar Wochen hochgeladen, da besprechen wir das im Detail.
Um es kurz zu fassen: in Florida waren wir sehr viel bei „Warmshowers“ oder „Couchsurfing“ hosts. Im Nordwesten von Florida haben wir dann auch öfter mal in Stadtparks gezeltet (eigentlich illegal). Wir haben nur sehr selten mal ein Hotel / Motel genommen und waren nie auf einem bezahlten Campingplatz, da das in den USA sehr teuer ist. ☹️

Now that I’ve found out in this video that you are Vegetarian, Im more curious how you will be eating wherever you are ( It has gotten easier in recent years to eat vegetarian, with the popularity of veganism, in popular commercial restaurants without just eating a salad)
I would have prevented you from IHOP in Cocoa Beach, it is one of their yuckiest locations

Hey! The IHOP was an interesting experience... at least now we can say we tried it. 😅
Finding vegetarian options has mostly been fine, even in places like Albania, Turkey and now Mexico where meat is very traditional and “modern” restaurants haven’t necessarily arrived, but sometimes we do have to search for them. It’s usually only a bigger problem in small towns / villages.
Most of the time we cook ourselves though and never have problems finding non-meat groceries.
We just finished cycling Baja a few days ago and took the ferry from La Paz, Baja to Mazatlan on the mainland of Mexico. 😊

Hey! So our aim is to spend around 15 Euros, per person, per day, on average, over the whole trip. This is meant to include flights, transportation, visa costs, food, hotels, etc. etc. And then we'll see how long we are able to travel with the money we have saved up. Hope this helps!

Also, I think passing on riding across Canada was a good choice. It's a lot of nothing. The southern tier of the US will be far more interesting.
I really beg to differ, The Prairies of course are flat and vast agricultural. But the maritime provinces, Quebec Ontario and British Columbia are magnificent, beautiful and unique. Take American views with a grain of salt. The Canadian Rocky Mountains are world renown. It is cold in winter.
@@Don-co9zs The prairies make up way too much of the ride. And quite a bit of Ontario is pretty boring too. I've driven from Vancouver to Ottawa and it and that's bad enough. I know 3 people who have done it and they said that for how much they hated the prairies that it made the rest not really worth it. Once you get to BC, you then have to contend with rain - regardless of the time of year. View is suddenly gone. I have no interest personally. There are much prettier rides in the US than the one they did. But riding isn't all about "views." Once you see it, you kind of tune it out. It's the monotony of riding in a perfectly straight line on a highway with uninteresting truck stop towns.
I'm guessing you're Canadian. haha. I've lived in BC for 16 years. The US is just a more interesting country in my opinion. And people are friendlier... contrary to popular belief.

The southern route is soooo much better. The northeast and Canada suck. The southern US is best. You won big on that choice.
