Once again film theories ideas are better then the future cannon films
not only is his ideas better, they make more sense then what actually happen's, I just really hope he's right this time
I think the reason he’s wrong every time is that film theory ideas are way cooler and riskier, from a business standpoint, than what the people making the movies are willing to make
And this sort of thing is practically canonically similar to what caused Anakin to come into being, tieing her then as a sort of relative to the Skywalker name in that form.
Along with how the idea has been explored a lot in the Star Wars EU such as with Palpatine's clones that got his soul after he died and the SWTOR exploration of how it works in one of the character storylines.

Almost, MatPat. It is almost correct- just that Rey actually does have parents- even if her father is a failed clone of Palpatine and by proxy also a Palpatine and her mother is... someone, and that she resisted the dark- only treading the path between and the OG Palpatine is also still alive. The main core of it is correct though : Rey *is* created (sorta) by Palpatine, she *is* seduced into the dark, she *almost* became the next empress. Ben came into the rescue in the last minute and got her back into the light, then died (because of course he died), leaving the galaxy with only one superpowerful (and sorta trained) Force user, a child of the dark who chose the light and tread the path of the grey.
You know what? That actually sounds like a very satisfying ending, now that I've wrote it down. I don't know why some of you are so adamant against it. (It does kinda go against the 'anyone can use the Force' thing but story-wise, it has a good message of 'your choice defines you, not your parentage.' Gar taldin ni jaonyc; gar sa buir, ori'wadaasla. Nobody cares who your parents were, only the parent you will be.)
Note : I know that last one is usually translated into 'Nobody cares who your father was, only the father you will be', but 'buir' translates to both father *and* mother (gender-neutral pronouns for the win ;) ) and if translated literally, it's 'bloodline is not important, but you as a father/mother are the most valuable thing' so I'd say it's pretty accurate.

Rey wasn’t manipulated mentally/genetically by Palpatine in ANY way. In addition (and this is just to my knowledge), it was never confirmed that Palpatine was the apprentice of darth Plaguis. So MatPat got it half right.

I ABSOLUTELY thought of this too!
Palp's son was really his clone that he created, so in an indirect way he also helped in creating Rey. His clone was a failure since he was not force sensitive, but when he had his daughter, she was strong with the force (like it skipped a generation) and that's why Palpatine wants her, because she is the ideal vessel that he had been trying to create to house his essence.
I'm missing many details here because this is off the cuff, from memory. Star Wars Theory has the in-depth video explaining all of this in detail.

I would bet that he definitely has something directly to do with her. Did h le create her like he basically created Anakin? Did he make various Once-powerful clone bodies for him to inhabit? We won't knoe until December unless trailers kr leaks suggest the answer, but there's no way he doesn't have some kind of connection to her. The fact she just appears on Jakku, the same planet that is important to Palpatine's Palpatine's future plans involving a Imperial observatory and a Sith vault are not coincidental.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of people screamed in joy, and suddenly stopped when episode 9 came out...
Dude, they won’t turn Rey into the villain because the target audience is 13 to 15 years old. They also assume they’re going to get a bunch of 10 to 12 year olds coming with mom and dad. They’re not going to turn the hero of 5+ hours of screen time into a bad guy. If she ends up as a product of Palaptine it’ll be a story about overcoming a corrupt nature to embrace good. As far as Disney’s concerned, these are children’s movies that should have a good, wholesome resolution where good wins and evil loses, with maybe an opening for the next trilogy. Also, they need to sell lots of Rey action figures.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a double turn, but looking at it from the perspective of a movie and toy executive I just don't see it. Also, J.J. is back in the director's chair, the guy who made Rey gain decades of Jedi training without explanation and made the superduper death star. More likely she'll be briefly tempted by the dark side, over come it with minimal effort, redeem Kylo and go on the "WIN THE DAY!"
I'm not the biggest Star Wars enthusiast, so maybe what I think is nice ending, wouldn't be considered good to the more avid fans, but since the first movie of this trilogy I've been thinking that having Rey and Kylo find a balance, a way to live with light and dark within themselves would be a satisfying ending. That wouldn't make them a complete villain or hero, and it avoids the woman hero falling onto madness/darkness that we've seen fail so spectacularly in GoT.

To be fair mat's Star Wars theories are generally interesting if not highly likely.
The main reason he's always wrong is Disney put the worst writers in hystory in charge of their new trilogy!
Like Ray's parents. Mat may have been wrong about them but it was IMPOSSIBLE to be right. The movies outright lied to us with fake clues, many of which get forgotten, until the big reveal that they were nobodies. No one on Earth could have guessed that unless they did a lucky shot in the dark.
So really Matpat shouldn't beat himself up over Star Wars. yes he's done some bad theories here and there. But he shoudln't blame himself when the writers intentionally abandon plot threads making any kind of prediction impossible.
