I just discovered this singer. I’m on a binge. Thank God for RUclips. No one ages here or goes away. They are constantly brand new to any generation. This dear lady is phenomenal…..meaningfully sincere and all with an angels voice.
Barbara Dickson has one of the clearest, most pure voices I've ever heard. My dad loves her and when I was a little girl, I used to love singing along to her - a real Scottish Treasure.
Willy Russell has always been adamant that he wouldn’t let Blood Brothers become a film. The writing and story lends itself to stage, and wouldn’t transfer across well on to film e.g the same actors playing Mickey and Eddie all the way through their lives, the narrator appearing throughout, just things that would seem out of place in terms of a movie and would lessen the emotional impact and shock the story has on you, and tbh I fully agree.
she's just so good, isn't she? her voice is so natural- it seems like she just opens her mouth and it comes out.. so beautifully.. so effortless.. Amazing!
I saw Barbara sing this at the opening night of Blood Brothers at the Liverpool Playhouse more years ago than i care to admit to. I cried then and have cried every other time (about15) i've seen it....... STILL my favourite musical of all time. Wish there was a movie.
If you just read the lyrics, this song is fairly simple, but hearing Barbara Dickson sing it (plus the musical arrangement) - it's absolutely stunning! Wow - sensational!
I saw Blood Brothers last night in The Millennium Theatre in Cardiff. It was fantastic. Barbara Dixon the first Mrs Johnstone has the most amazing voice and sings this from her heart. 👏👏👏👏👏
@@bwgicat Me too. I think everyone was. I’d been wanting to see this for so long but didn’t want to go on my own. My son took me his first time to see something in the theatre and he is now hooked by this performance. Best wishes Lynne.
Her voice when she sings this song gives me goosebumps time and time again...I've seen Blood Brothers three times yet sadly am too young to have seen it with her in which I bitterly regret but I was born in 1990.
I went to see this musical (Blood Brothers) two years ago for a GCSE Drama and everytime i hear this song it make me emotional :'(...Truely the best musical ever...and great song.
I've never been so moved by any song in a lifetime of going to the theatre. I saw Barbara Dickson many times when she was still part-time on the Scottish folk scene and now I can sing with her at Mass since we belong to the same parish. 🎵🏴🥰
What a voice!!! No one sings this song better. I've never seen Blood Brothers, would have loved to have seen it when Barbara Dickson was performing in it. ❤
A number of excellent singers have had a pop at this , but Barbara Dickson has yet to be topped , beautiful , effortless voice , with that magic tone !
Was lucky enough to see Barbara in the original production with George Costigan when she won Best Actress in a musical. In my opinion the first and best Mrs Johnson..
Saw Barbara years ago at the Liverpool Everyman, she was singing at a piano in John, Paul , George Ringo and Bert. It was also a Willy Russell show. A great show. She stole the show singing all the Beatles songs. Fab voice ❤
No one else can sing this song as well you Barbara! You sing with your eyes as well with your heart.a rare talent in opinion. I never saw you in this musical. Wish I had!
I saw Barbara as Mrs Jones in Blood Brothers 15 years ago , when she sang this the hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention , after all this time they still do fabulous song from tearjerking heartbreaking show , INC\REDIBLE PERFORMANCE :)
Fab song from the Brilliant Barbara. Brings back great memories of the 1980s. When everything I Touched Turned To Gold, nowadays all I touch turns to shite.😢
I went to see Blood Brothers in London..my friends were totally shocked when I broke into tears at this part..since I'm not prone to cry in public -or at all. But then again, it was splendidly acted out, and just imaginating the mother's pain at this point about broke my heart. The tune got stuck in my brain the first time I heard it; so ty for putting it up!^^
I saw the early performance of Blood Brothers in Liverpool many years ago and whilst I am sure no one would suggest Barbara has a classic voice she clearly echoed the pain of loss of a loved one. The audience was in tears and perhaps was appropriate for a city that lost so many loved ones at Hillsborough. I have seen other singers perform this song but Barbara's version did I think reflect the tough times evident in the city and many others of the era Roger
i have seen blood brothers twice when Linda Nolan was in it she was fantastic and this song make me cry when i listen to it and i think i might see it a gain this year when it come to Manchester in September/october
Barbara hits that pefect spot that exists between musical theeeeetah diction and warm singing. I honestly can't think of another artist that achieves it in quite the same way.
Barbara Dickson used to be a bit of a 'secret' favourite of mine! I'm a Rock, Blues, Jazz fan mostly but now I'm older & proud to have such good taste!! 😄😊
Dickson is the finest exponent of her art alive today. Quite simply, no-one else comes close. Here, she's at her imperious best and totally captivating as usual. A beautiful performance (and live as well...)
i have to admitt i saw the show in london many years back with the late great stephanie lawrance in 1992 she was amazing. i can't comment on other actresses except fr bernnie and lind nolan in the tourinf productions, but miss lawrance u were amazing and a true star xxx RIP
My 2nd favourite musical of all time (after Little Shop of Horrors). This song gets me every time - I worked as an usherette (as we were called then) at a theatre many years ago when Linda Nolan played the Mum character and I cried at every performance. Willy Russell is a genius (The Wrong Boy is one of my favourite ever books).
Saw Blood Brothers in Sydney in '89 with Chrissy Amphlette & Russell Crowe. One of the best musicals ever and Chrissy's performance was superlative. Makes me teary-eyed just hearing the music again.
There is an audio recording on youtube of Chrissy and the ensemble doing this song. The recording quality is not the best but one can get a sense of just how beautiful her voice was. Chrissy was quite unique. jtk
I went to see this musical for the first time ever yesterday and I just couldn't believe how good it was. The storyline was fantastic, the songs were beautiful, the set was amazingly interpurated into every scene and there were lots of hilarious parts in the middle. Then I cried my eyes out at the end. I just want to go and see it over and over again. Definatly the best musical I've ever been to.
The astounding vocal genius of Barbara Dixon and a wonderfully emotional song beautifully written and delivered. All things considered, a perfect 3 minutes 22 seconds of music.
Wonderful voice, Willie Russell wrote Blood Brothers with Barbara in mind. Check out another suitcase in another hall from Evita, if you want to test a singer that's the song and this songstress is supberb at it. Johnny.
This is the best musical in the world and the reprise of this song at the end is the most powerful ending to a play I have ever seen! Really beautiful!!!
Love this song. And beautifully sung by the amazing Barbara Dickson. Saw her in Blood Brothers years ago and have just seen it again at Southend. It was brilliant.
I watched this musical in London about two weeks ago, and truly LOVE it, perhaps also because of the fact that I love Liverpool very much! Love the accent! Love this sad story! Awesome!
Omg, my school's doing a production on Blood Brothers and I'm singing this for audition, and this woman is so amazing! I feel bad though, lol. I can't top that.
You've obviously not seen Barbara playing the part. I've not seen any other actress come anywhere near her portrayal... the critics raved about her performance and with just cause. Even Willy Russell has admitted that she was the definitive Mrs Johnstone.
Barbara Dickson I seen this in the Playhouse theatre in Liverpool way back in the 80s it's the difinitave play that got me hooked on musicals it still sends shivers down my spine today when I hear you sing the songs you made Mrs Johnson I offen watch it on hear as it takes me right back best musical ever iv tried meany a time to go see it again but ether couldn't Alford it or have a babysitter at the time I will get to see it again just brilliant xxxx💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Why hasn't this been made into a movie. Best musical by far.
Wow 8years ago Ur first comment. And still not a movie. Would be perfect m such an amazing story and music
It's too good so it would be risky to turn it into a movie since so much of it could go wrong
It's the final song in Blood brothers
Yes, Annette. And the question is "Why hasn't Blood Brothers been made into a movie?". Good question.
Willy Russell has always been adamant that he wouldn’t let Blood Brothers become a film.
