I worked front-of-house with this show back in '83. The cast had come from Liverpool and had the edginess necessary for these characters that you'd never find with full-on West End actors. Listening to this soulful voice again and these haunting lyrics takes me back to a wonderful period of my younger days.

No one sings it quite like Barbara does. That deep emotional pull is so gripping and utterly compelling.

I remember this, I think from an old documentary called 'Butterflies', which covered a number of female singers. Please tell me I'm not imagining this. It was so affecting, I remember every word of this song. I think it sort of fitted in with the then popular 'Boys from the Blacksuff'; by Bleasdale. Also, I think Willy Russell wrote the song. I know he wrote the play. More importantly for me, as a working-class kid (about 20 years old at the time), the song affected me deeply. And still does. Also, Barbara, is simply one of the best singers there is. And has ever been. Up there with the greats, for me.

Gareth Bisgrove I disagree the follow spotter was clearly experienced and the lighting designer was keeping it subtle so as they didn't distract from the performance. I feel it was just the camera quality
