The Queen Is Dead: An Annotated look at the Classic Album | Liner Notes | Pitchfork
i resisted them until that album
then there was just no denying the brilliance
Unknown Pleasures next or Closer.
2:20 so the original female background vocals were "really weird" so naturally they had to replace them with "totally normal" sped up Morrissey vocals haha
Always wondered about the fade out/fade in.
Love that song, and I love this album. But in fair criticism, if something needs to be explained to the listener in order for it NOT to seem like a big production mistake, is that really justification?
@Anthony Genzale It was intentional
Fax same
I'd like to see videos in this series on these albums: Loveless, Ok Computer/Kid A, Blood on the Tracks, and Post.
creekandseminole they did Loveless already
Local man predicts the next year of Liner Notes
One of my all time favorite albums ever. I still have a copy in my car right now! Today, literally.
This video is so aesthetically pleasing
I always had a soft spot for their debut album tbh
holy shit, how the video cuts out before Morrisey can beautifully sing 'for love' is savave
You've got to love that opening to Cemetry Gates
While he was going through a break-up my brother listened to the Smiths obsessively. The one I always think of was lugubriously called “A Very Unhappy Birthday,” if that was really the name...
He survived. :)
Your brother is a good lad
Great video. I'm a diehard smiths fan and I didnt know most of these facts.
Keep these types of videos coming pitchfork! Would love to see a footwork history overview since you guys are based in Chicago
This was a great video! Loved it!
2:25 and a speed-up Morrissey isn't?
Gruady Horror lmao
You gotta do Daniel Johnston it's so interesting
Chris Higgins yes
Great video
Can you plssssss make more smiths videos
I love this album 10/10
This series is so awesome, really hoping they do more!
Yeah, the smiths and their songs.

What song is “when did you drop it near the end” on????
The record is fucking timeless

I love Derek Jarman and I love Morrissey
This is the kid from Almost Famous, right?
Do a video on OK Computer!!!!!!!!!!
fuck yea
I think this is the best album in the 1980s
Tom Waits Downtown Train is best 80s Album
i feel like hatful is much better but this one is good too
hatful of hollow is compilation not a studio album
The Queen is Dead is a great album, but am I the only one who feels like Meat is Murder is the best
Maybe underrated? Personally I think the song TQID is one of their most underrated songs.
One of the most underrated albums ever.
It’s considered by most people to be top 10 in the decade, with many putting it at number 1.
I’m pretty hard pressed to say it’s underrated.
nah, this is really highly rated by everyone
I find Meat is murder as their masterpiece.
Just saying (:
Life is very long when you're lonely
This comment was made on September 8, 2022. How ironic.
I find this a little overrated, don't think it sounds as good as 'Hatful of Hollow' or 'Meat is murder' in 2016. Though I'm unsurprised at NME calling it the best album of all time (somehow beating arctic Monkeys' debut)
Reasons? Slightly overproduced, and doesn't have the best of Marr's songwriting. It might be the most "Morrissey" smiths album but not the best one musically, IMO.
I like Arctic Monkeys' debut, but it pales in comparison to The Queen Is Dead.
I was being sarcastic, given NME's worshiping of the AM. I guess The Smiths were the same sort of band for the magazine to latch onto, only it was actually respectable back then
Man and I thought I was the only guy that thought that MIM is better than QID.
Hambloko If I’m being objective MIM is their greatest album but if I’m being subjective, the Queen is Dead is their greatest album.
I don’t know how to get into this album morrissey’s voice is so bothersome
Meat is Murder is *so much better.*
Great video
