- Jose Maldonado, front man of The Smiths tribute band Sweet and Tender Hooligans, is an LA county lifeguard by day and the world’s greatest Morrissey impersonator by night. He’s got the voice, the looks, and a level of dedication that proves that love isn’t just a miserable lie. Join the Mexican Morrissey as he hosts his weekly Smiths-themed radio show, psyches himself up for a performance full of naked torsos and arm-waving, and shares stories of the time Moz turned the tables and stole his identity in return. We would go out tonight but we’re going to stay in and watch this instead.

Came here thinking this guy was gonna be some wierdo fanboy, but he actually seems like a genuinely nice dude with a cool talent who is doing what he wants to do for the fun of it. He's like the real Morrissey without all of the negatives. Keep on rocking Jose!

For example, once he told fans that it was okay to like The Smiths, but don't buy any of their CDs because all of the profits go to "that wretched drummer"! Makes me chuckle every time!

i'm just astounded by the fact that morrissey's music has managed to connect with such a broad audience that it was acknowledged in a movie as big as "ant-man and the wasp" to show that morrissey is a big deal with mexican-americans. i'm honduran-american and i love morrissey and the smiths.

You should watch the documentary "Real life with Morrissey". I think you will understand a bit about Morrissey´s fans and Morrissey himself. It was a part of the DVD My life with Morrissey, but I am sure you can find it on youtube too.

I remember putting off a whole day of homework to watch Morrissey videos and honestly I don't regret it

I’m London Irish. I was in LA in ‘97 and the racism toward Mexicans appalled me. I went down the mercato and bought a Mexican football shirt with the Aztec wheel of Time on it. I wore that around town. I got a very warm and cheerful reception from Mexican Americans. I’m happy that Morrisey has found a home in Mexican hearts. The miracle of music. Rock on!

I was kind of like this, as with most obsessive Smiths and Morrissey fans---buying every book, magazine, collecting memorabilia, rarities, posters, bootlegs, etc---but I outgrew wearing the t-shirts and rocking the pompadour a longtime ago. But I still love the music though and will never stop listening to it.
This guy's having a blast - great attitude, and the band is amazing. Just stumbled upon this.
He seems like a genuinely good guy, having fun in what he does!

Morrissey is my all-time favorite singer. I learned how to croon imitating his style. Plus Morrissey is so damn fun to impersonate because he’s such a colorful character.

Basically how I feel about AFI as a whole. They love the Smiths, so the love just keeps rolling out from generation to generation. Without that band I wouldnt have known Moz at all.
