Us Mexicans and latinos are a passionate ppl ..morrisey is one of us
💯 💯 ❤️ 🇲🇽
I also think morrissey’s vocal style is very reminiscent of old school Mexican music
😅😂😅
You hit the nail on the head with this one man, listen to “I know it’s over” by the smiths & try to tell me a Mexican singer like Ana Gabriel wouldn’t kill that shit🤣
His voice has so much emotion.
He wan't even blessed with much if any vocal 'acrobatic' skills, and goes off-pitch.
B U T he's got a zillion % charisma + a lyrical wit and imagination that rivals Dylan.
....oh, and writing tunes with _Johnny freaking Marr_ didn't hurt a bit, either :D
Im Mexican American...born and raised in South Texas And iam a smiths fan hardcore
We love The Smiths! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Morrissey is machismo no matter how emotional his songs might be. He has that machismo vibe. He is the man. I think this is why Mexico loves him. And hey, the songs are good. Morrissey is a legend and his band around him are always good and his songs are always good.
Thank you. Look at my post!
We Latinos that don’t like soccer or Latino stuff... love Morrissey. And he said many times he loves Mexican people
I love both Moz y futbol
It's funny, a lot of uk people really love the romance of the mexican culture and people. Not the stereotypical bs, but the fact the people are really honest and real etc. Its difficult to put into words.
This interview explains it all really, very good.
Hmm, soccer (football) is obviously huge in the UK.
😂😅😂
Of course he does, they have kept him relevant. White people don't like Solo Morrissey at all and only the best Smiths.
They like him because he isn't afraid to express his feelings and because he doesn't give a fuck.
I'm not Latino but I think some Latino men find there is something restricting about the Machismo of the culture. Morrissey and The Smiths kind of offers an alternative to that by giving men a way to access their emotions
Being from Manchester it’s so interesting to me that Joy division and the Smiths have such a following.
Many British bands that are not famous in the United States tend to be famous in Latin America.
Morrisesy played a show in England after the smiths broke up . People were booing at him. When he walked off the stage they said that he sold out the hollywood bowl twice. He said bye bye england.
In Brazil we love The Smiths as well, there is a giant fan club here. Brazilian popular music has some sad lyrics with happy melodies too
Wow! thanks for watching from Brazil 🇧🇷 Sad+Happy is the ultimate combo!
Actually some people In Brasil like Morrissey, specially now with the left wing ruler media.
Hey Rabisco e Barulho... not all Latinos speak Portuguese you know. Get a zero yourself for being arrogant. Reply with something all of us can understand
Are there are any really cool Brazilian bands similar to the Smiths you want to recommend?
That's great I know Iron Maiden is huge in your country too. From 🇺🇸 great choice. ❤
Why don't people appreciate the jet-black humor in Morrissey's lyrics? I mean come on "Say Charles don't you ever crave, to appear on the front of the Daily Mail dressed in your mother's bridal veil"
Moz is from a very Irish Catholic background, with a hostility to Royalism too.
My belief is that Morrissey's always been a romantic and passionate singer, which Latinos naturally gravitate too being they are a romantic and passionate culture. Also his lyrics speak on subjects that most of us macho Latin guys can relate too, but would never admit to anyone. He sings our deepest thoughts out loud in such songs as Back to the Old House, Driving Your Girlfriend Home, I Won't Share You, Well I Wonder, Please Let Me Get What I Want, Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, and a host of others. That yearning we fool ourselves into acting like we don't have in public, but in private moments play heavily in our minds. For that he's truly one of the best lyricists of the 20th century.
The Smiths lyrics and Morrisey's lyrics are not depressing. They're real.
My buddy from East LA who was into punk music adored The Smiths. It seemed odd at the time but I understand now.
They aren't depressing, they made a short yet glorious career out of playing with (by giving form to) feelings that most everyone has but are too afraid to admit.
they are depressing. you can't listen to Asleep and say it's not depressing.
Manchester is a traditional working class, hard, cotton, red brick Northern city, built on the back of Irish & Scottish immigrants. Birthplace of trade unions & western socialism, home to the biggest industrial estate in Europe. As far from London etiquette you can get.
Thank you for the knowledge & background 🙏
*posh London etiquette. Don’t act like London and the south of England generally isn’t mostly working class like the rest of britain

The story I heard was the program director who took over KROQ in teh 80's was a big Smiths Cure and Depeche Mode and he made sure that they were on rotaion constantly and thus why we fell in love with The Smith/Morrissey along with Dpeche Mode and The Cure
🤯 ❤️ 💧 🌱
I think your probably talking about Richard Blade and he used to do the KROQ flashback lunch from 12:00-1:00 !
Interesting History. In what other city besides Los Angeles can Morrissey and Jaguares share the same stage?
They didn't really play too much "Smiths" on KROQ a lot more Depeche mode and The Cure they played How Soon is Now (I'm that old to know) and maybe "Ask" every so once in a while the first time I heard Morrissey is actually through a ex boyfriend of mine and not in KROQ & I'm a heavy KROQ listener always have been! The bottom line they didn't play him as much as the others...just sayin.
This makes so much sense, then it must’ve spread from the raza in California out to every Mexican everywhere else in the world
Morrissey's lyrics are misunderstood. They are hilarious.
My favorites:
And he stole from the rich and the poor
And the not very rich and the very poor
and
And you have never been in love
Until you've seen the dawn rise
Behind the Home for the Blind
Yes! So true!
@TheWoodIsPoo on the shop floor, theres a calendar, as obvious as snow.
As if we didnt know.....
He's sad but he finds his predicament extremely funny
Let me get my hands on your mammory glands classic
a mi me gusta The Smiths por que me hacen recordar mi infancia...sus melodias evocan la adolescencia, la melancolia, el desamor, la incertidumbre que caracteriza esa etapa de la vida de todo adolescente.
🙏 💚🧡💙
It's a bit surprising that Nick Cave isn't really a big thing amongst Mexicans considering how often we wear our heart on our sleeve and our usual appreciation for sad songs.
To me, o feel morrissey explains through music that at times we feel unloved while watching others revieve the love we desire..
People from Manchester are the realest most mfers in the world. From their football players to rock stars. They don't do bullshit. .
Yea Latino Men tend to listen to Sad/Heartbreaking music bcuz it soothes his inner feelings. Same with old school chicanos listening to oldies from the 50s/60s. In general Music from 50s-90s had real talent musicians that gravitated people with true apprehension.
What a interesting video to be recommended... I am a Smiths, Moz/Marr fan and I wondered this about South America and how they love The Smiths. I have a friend in Brazil and she is Manchester music nuts, mainly The Smiths, Morrissey, Marr, Joy Division and New Order, Electronic etc, and yes she/they adore Moz/The Smiths probably more so than us in the UK.
This was interesting hearing from the Mexican people's perspective. I knew that they were Morrissey crazy also but had never actually heard them speak of it. Also massive kudos for drinking in my opinion the finest beer money can buy period in Duvel from Belgium! 👌
And finally because it's recent, massive RIP to Andy Rourke the amazing bassist for The Smiths and some of Morrissey's solo work, he was a excellent bassist and on some Smiths songs you can here just how talented he is, so I hope he's in a better place now. RIP Andy! 🕊
I have never ever once found the Smiths or Morrissey sad in anyway.
OH God Mexicans and Filipinos really have a lot of things in common. Filipinos, even the young ones are really into new wave and goth. Morrissey is like an icon over there. The cure, Depeche Mode are still popular and an obscure synth pop/new wave band is extremely popular in the Philippines, Seona Dancing ( Ricky Gervais’ band back in the days ).
🇲🇽 🙌 🇵🇭
Thier music is melancholy, and melancholy is the happiness of sadness. The mix of Marrs guitar playing and melodies, mixed with morrsieys amazing singing and funny yet bizzare lyrics make then magical. Not to forget rourke and Joyce too. Rourke baselines are integral to the music too
Mind blowing comment. We’ll said sir
Rourke, totally. His playing on The Tube program. They did 'Barbarism...' unbelivable!
The smiths and morrissey touch on your enter core of self consciousness 💯
Morrissey and Vicente Fernandez have so many parallels .
😮💯

Depressing is GOOD
Hahaha most of latinos love sad stuff. The cure, depeche mode or most of post punk
😢 =🔥
@@h2otheplants love your video, but if you want confirmation just take a look to all those depressing artist spotify "About" in the computer app and you can see the cities where they are the most popular... Mexico City for is the second for the smith world wide, The cure number 1, even rusian post punk..Molchat doma.. number 1 wtf? hhahahaha
Oye me, I'm half mexican and half Serbian. When you mix that with slavic miseria, NoOmbre 🤣...

Man, that's the best combo! I'm Mexican but I really love Serbian people and culture. Hopefully I'll be able to visit Serbia next year if I save enough money!

Morrissey's lyrics are not simply "sad." Especially the lyrics that he wrote while he was in The Smiths. Most people take his songs too literally. Meanwhile, Morrissey is singing with his tongue firmly in cheek. People miss the humor, dark as it may sometimes be. Morrissey is also very sarcastic. Most people seem to miss this fact as well. Most people seem to miss mostly everything in life. They see only the most superficial level of art and of everything, and they never discovered that underneath that thin outer level lies a gigantic depth of many meanings and interpretations. This may be because most people are very shallow, and so they erroneously believe that everyone and everything else is as shallow as they are. Now THAT is quite sad.
Not that most people are necessarily shallow, just that they have a terrible attention span and miss great, small details.
You nailed it. People miss the humor in it.
Great video. From Htown and Latino community here is the same. Anytime Morissey or Johnny Marr come into town it’s packed with Latinos.
🙏 Thanks for watching, 💚🧡💙 much love to yall in Houston!
Cheers! I love the light, honest, just actual conversation
Morrissey distills those shadow horrible feelings into a sardonic brew of light hearted music with and blistering lyrics hurt so good ok
🙌 well said!
Well I think in Latino culture men only ever feel and express their emotions through music (and getting drunk lol) so that’s why a lot of Spanish music is sad and also why Latinos grabbed onto the Smiths.
🙏 You're on to something forsure
I think you just described the Irish too. Plus, our great storytelling and humor.
the Smiths are the greatest band alltime
Close. They have good music, and I love The Smiths, but that title goes to the band Japan.
Fact! It's an established fact.
@@mexicanson I love The Smiths much more, but Japan are definitely an amazing band that should get brought up more in music conversations.
I agree.
In your opinion
When I listen to bands on spotify it often shows the highest amount of listeners are in Mexico. (For things like the Pet Shop Boys and other '80s stuff.)
Men listen to The Smiths because women do is possibly the worst take ever
Agreed this guy hasn’t a clue why Mexicans love Mozza,
The smith are the best bro
💯
Mexicans for Morrissey and up with the the wind.
Funny thing is that us white people loved Mexican emo/screamo for a while. One of my favorite bands is At the Drive-in. I think that stuff really doesn't matter at all. There is no cultural appropriation. Once you put something into the collective consciousness, its there for anyone who wants to make it theirs
This is the most accurate and beautiful portrait of music taste
Morrissey writes with his heart and his mind. He might be feeling a certain way about a situation, maybe genuinely sad. But he can also see the inherent humor and absurdity in the same situation. Some songs are basically sad, some are mostly funny, some are a mix of the two. Marilyn Manson once said Courtney Love “writes with pure heart, not much mind.” Pete Townsend once described Kurt Cobain as “having a lot of heart, but he’s sort of a heroic fool.” It’s good to have a variety of different types of artists, but some are obviously more doomed than others.
This was explained on Ant-Man…Peso Pluma’s Bye tho😥 and Netflix’s The Killer has me on a Smiths kick
I think we vibe with Moz because his lyrics spoke to the underdog throughout his musical career, but now he's anti-immigrant lol
No, he's anti-Illegal immigration. Plus, just like any non-white nation, he hates to witness his home changed or be destroyed.
@@v-town1980 he's a pathetic racist
2:12 I had a friend who went to Depeche Mode shows because he knew he could meet girls with dark hair and red lipstick (this was back in the 90s). As a Mexican American growing up in South Texas I always wondered about the connection we had with The Smiths.
Ah there's a lot of great SadBoy music. You gotta listen to Elliot Smith, Conor Oberst. and some Big Thief. Don't forget The Cure!
The real champagne of beer is a Miller highlife
Is everyone just gonna ignore the fact that that’s an awful pour
I was floored when I went to the LA Smiths/Morrissey convention. Just cholos and cholas like going bananas crying and fighting. I’m just a Chicana from Denver. I had no idea there was a lot of people like me out there. 😂
Your beer gives me anxiety, the espuma should be one finger wide 🍺
Mexrrissey is really interesting.
Cada Dia Es Domingo is a favorite of mine.
I wanted to heat the guy in black speak but the other cat kept yelling amd being loud
Whoa this blew my mind! I'm not mexican or latinx, but I always wondered why there were so many greaser-looking (the rolled up jeans look) latinx people in my school worshiping morrisey. Some of the cholos were repping morrisey too, which is weird now with this information. So it was basically to be oldschool emo. I'll never look at morrisey-repping cholos the same again.
stop saying Latinx
Wtf stop with Latin x bullshit
You guys should make a podcast and talk about music and stuff..you guys were mad entertaining throughout the video..and yes i am a highschool sad latino boy listening to the smiths😍

Is such an 80s band for English lads, cause it came out in the era of football hooliganism and Thatcherism, and de-industrialistion in Britain, it’s cool how Mexicans another continent away can relate also.
The smiths represented de-industrialision in eengland
🙏 Definitely cool to see how it resonates!

im starting to peice this puzzle together
Mexican American sports and music fans are under appreciated in this country. They support 100 percent. They go to sporting events in droves, they by the jerseys, they go to concerts etc. I'm Cubano but just my observation.
Huh?
Smiths pegaron duro en Costa Rica y eso es todo lo que se
I grew up in Downey Los Angeles County in the 90s I'm a white girl obviously! But all my friends every single one of them are Hispanic (I obviously ended up marrying a Mexican guy having kids with him as well)whether they were Mexican, Cuban, Costa Rican whatever my friends turned me on to The Smiths & Morrissey. My Great Great Grandparents on my mother side came here from Ireland and on my father's side England. I learned what good music was from all of my Latino & Latina friends . I'm Soo Lucky to grow up in L.A. because I was around a lot of different cultures & I've since moved away & try to explain it to others over here in the Midwest. How i grew up around Mexicans and I immersed myself into their culture I myself had Tia's and Tio's because my aunt's & uncles married Mexicans too .
They just don't get it here I told them how we (in the 90s) went to warehouse party's & raves and during the day Listened to Depeche mode, The Cure,& The Smiths . All of this stuff-raves and Techno another European thing that was introduced to me by my Mexican friends. Afterwards it was always going to King Taco for Carne asada tacos though. I wouldn't give up my childhood for anything in the world and Thank you to all my Mexican friends keeping me" cultured!"😉
i need to go to mexico

Why is Morrissey a shithead?
